Jennifer: at that mileage, condition and maintenance records are everything. Have a trusted mechanic look it over before you buy, or at least a mechanically inclined friend if the dealer is willing to offer a 30 day warranty or something like that.
paisan: it'll be hard to sell all 175 tickets, though, plus you gotta keep records w/numbers and stuff like that. Why not E-bay it?
-juice
E-bay is about a 5% chance that a winning bidder will actually buy the car. I only know 1 out of probably 50+ people that have been successful @ selling em on ebay.

I take it you've done the newspaper thing. Why not try autotrader.com or one of those type of sites?
I think our local paper(s) will list your item for a one time fee until it's sold. YMMV ;-)
-Brian
Tried cars.com, yahoo.com etc. Local papers want $40+ for classifieds and it's a rare car so people don't wanna buy it.

I wrote to SOA to complain, but the response was that the dates were picked with the sponsors, and basically, no one noticed. I'm not trying to make a major issue of this, but I find it irresponsible of SOA, and the variuos sponsors to not look at a calendar when planning an event like this.
Sorry, rant off.
Mark
I don't have Jewish holidays on my calendar. In fact here at work the only thing I've got is what work recognizes as holidays.
So I realize it affects you and you're bummed, but I can see how such a thing could happen.
-Colin
FWIW, my calendar only lists World Bank holidays. So President's Day and Columbus Day are both listed, but Passover isn't.

Australia is very multi-cultural and multi-religious (I think about 200 differnt religions). Hence we have some idea of the holiday scheduling thing. Acceptable eating places are also a problem, because of various religious or cultural barriers.
Years ago, I found myself running a team of eight different cultures, some fairly rigidly observed. We eventally hit on Thursday lunch at an Italian restaurant as the only acceptable option for all.
The Malaysians work around it by flagging every holiday from, I think, four different religions on their calendar. This makes for a hilarious situation as you can never reliably find a team of people in the office.
The software we use for our client management comes from Malaysia and has the ethnic origin and religion written in as field data, allowing scheduling around the clients holidays.
It also allows you to send greetings on the appropriate holiday. My colleagues there also point out the benefit of sharing in each other's feast days. The more savvy who are tolerant of other religions can be invited to four times the celebratory meals of the cultrurally narrow minded.
However, in Australia, it is illegal to keep data on religion or race, with a first offence costing about AUD200,000.
I prefer the Australian option as it protects the civil liberties more satisfactorily. The chances of someone starting a religious cull of selected citizens is reduced.
The down side is that you can make mistakes in scheduling. However, most people accept that you can't expect everyone to know the dates of every client's annual leave or medical appointments. Equally it is not reasonable to expect them to know and schedule for all 200 religion's holidays. I may be irritated that a vendor schedules an event when I have religious commitments. However, that is my own problem, not theirs. It is not discrimation against me.
Cheers
Graham
As for the holiday on a calendar, Microsoft Outlook has the capability for you to load holidays. At work I've loaded the Canadian calendar, this way I know when I can't trade there.
I realize that not everyone will have it on their calendar, and I realize we're all human. It just seemed to me that someone palnning an event should check a little bit more thoroughly. But enough of that. I'm not trying to accuse SOA, or anyone else, of being anything except slack in checking calendars. I'm sure it was a mistake, but it was one that annoyed me.
On a good note, I picked up my OB from the dealer today after having them take a look at it. When I replaced the tires, the shop I went to told me there was something wrong with the alignment on the car(highly technical diagnosis), and that I should get it checked out. Well I brought it to Flemington Subaru who had their alignment place check it over. They found the local shop I went to did not tighten the alignment properly, and that nothing was wrong with the car. They also replaced my auto-dimming mirror that started to leak, which was covered under warranty.
That will teach me to go to a shop that offers a free alignment with purchase of 4 tires:-)

I had charges up till 31Jul02 to yield 75 points, but the final coupon for $19 covers only for the July Statement ending 05Jul02.
Patti-
How do I proceed to closeout the points program with MBNA in good order? TIA
-Dave
Thanks,

Nope, but the purchase could be in your name though.

But on the good side:
Got to see the Thunderbirds (Airforce acrobatics team w/F16's) perform at the Hillsboro Air Show yesterday from the sidelawn of the company I am visiting (their property borders the airport). And will be seeing several of my 'daughters' (former exchange students) during the week. One will give me the grand tour of Tokyo the day after arrival, two others will take me around Osaka and Nagoya on the tail end of the trip.
Ken: Where in Shinjuku is Subaru? Change in plans - will be staying in the nearby Hilton for a night, so it is the perfect opportunity for a visit.
Steve
Dave (hypov): the points are counted only up to your closing date in July. For example, my closing date was in mid-July, so I had to time my purchases to happen before that. Anything I charged after the closing date but still in July went on the Aug statement, and did not accumulate any points.
I also thought that reference to July 31 was somewhat misleading, and should've read "through your closing date in July" or something like that.
I feel like I've been "other S word".
Thanks for shedding light on the 31Jul02 terminology Kate

Anyone else notice there were two Daves in the letters section of Drive? No? Of course not, statistically that's under-represented!
Something else caught my eye - there will be a monotone Outback available. Was that mentioned here before, I don't recall. Any how, lots of people have been asking for something like that, now here it is.

Paisan: pasta
Hypov: chicken
Lark: beans
Kate: questions how to lose weight (while enjoying all the above)
I'm especially longing for Paisan's cooking. Just watched a few episodes of Sopranos... Do you really know those people, Mike? :-)

Look right in the middle of the map -- there is one block labeled "Asahi Seimei Head Office Subaru Bldg."
Here's a more simple map but it doesn't mention the Subaru building -- just the "Asahi Seimei Hall":
http://www.centuryhyatt.co.jp/en_new/map/02sj.shtml
The Hilton is on the upper left corner of this map.
Lastly, here's the Fuji Heavy webpage for the Subaru building showing the address:

Let me know if you need any restaurant recommendations in the area. I usually stay at the Century Hyatt just across the street from the Hilton.

I'd also stay away from Ed's beans... You might end up with a case of "Studebaker's Revenge!"

We must have looked at 5-6 cars before deciding on the Forester, including the Acura CL, Toyota Highlander, VW Passat, Nissan Altima, and Honda CRV (quite a variety). Of course, I wanted a Forester right away, but my wife was somewhat put off by the looks and (to her) dorky image (I wonder where she gets that from....). So I let her decide for herself, and in the end, the Forester was the obvious choice (Highlander was #2). The Forester looks (and feels) like a 3/4 scale Highlander, and easily has the best handling of the bunch. Quality is also tops, besting or equaling everything else (including the Acura). And value is hard to beat. My wife picked out a fairly loaded model (sticker north of $27K), but were able to get it for about $25K. Considering what you get for that money, it's a steal. Many of the other vehicles still don't include things like ABS, side airbags, or AWD for the same or higher prices.
I got to drive the car home from the dealer tonight (65 miles) after stopping off for Italian food and encouraging my wife to have two glasses of wine while I sipped iced tea. Good trick to use. Unfortunately, that may be the most I get to drive the Forester for a while. My wife really fell in love with the car. I think it says volumes about the Forester that it could go from last to first place in my wife's mind just based on a test drive. Getting a silver model helped too -- it really ties together all the styling cues (chrome lettering and charcoal accents, for instance) and looks great.
Even as a loyal Subaru follower, I have to say I am extremely impressed with the Forester -- I last drove an 01 model, and the new 03's are really improved. Subaru has a winner here.

Craig - Congratulations! My wife likes the new Forester more that the last one. She'll probably hold on to her OB for several more years though.

I threw my back out on Sunday, ouch. I know what you mean about back pain, Colin.
Any how, in the long standing Legacy vs. Forester debate, I can say conclusively that the Forester is infinitely easier to get in and out of. I just back in and sit down, no pain. To get in the Legacy, the seat is much lower so I have to brace myself and right now that's painful.
Just a thought for those with bad backs. I'm getting better slowly but these meds give me nausea and fatigue...ZZZZZZZZZZZ.

Nice trick -- get the wife tipsy so you can drive!
