My goodness. That's incredible! Well, I'm so relieved to hear that you're doing better. 8lbs. is unbelievable!
Rest up for a speedy recovery!
Ken
Jon
Now, do you need someone to drive that STi while you're on bedrest? ;-)
-Brian
-Frank P.
P.S. Were I the paranoid type, I'd suspect that this was all an elaborate hoax so you wouldn't have to come up with an excuse why I couldn't test drive your STi two weeks ago when I was in your neck of the woods ;-)
my best,
Craig
An armada of electrical and tree removal trucks from Wisconsin, Iowa and Alabama converged on our neighborhood this afternoon. Many thanks to these guys, even though I could not understand one word that those guys from Alabama said...
Bob
Get well soon,
Jim
Bob - Congrats on returning to the power grid!

Steve, I haven't siphoned out of my gas tanks for a while now. I used to be able to get a piece of garden hose down my unleaded only vehicles with a bit of twisting on the free end, but haven't tried it on the OB yet.
You know about the plastic bag trick and blowing into the tank to get the siphon going?
Steve, Host
The new Liberty (Legacy) and Outback are launched down under on Friday and I have an invite to a pre-launch event on thursday from Subaru.
Thought the following might be of interest. The launch of the 3.0l H6 in Australia will be about three weeks later.

That should make a lot of people happy! No more sloppy bushings that let the rack shift around.

By the way, I'll be passing through your neck of the woods at the crack of dawn on Thursday; I'm catching a flight out of Atlantic City airport. Will think of you then.
Ed
I'm aiming to take a close look at the car on Thursday but save a test drive until next week.
Interesting that the emphasis of the sales pitch is on a new for old comparison showing evolution rather than revolution. I suspect that Subaru Australia are expecting to sell initially to existing Outback buyers. Pricing remains the same for similar manual models although side curtain and side airbags are an added extra at significant cost.
Cheers
Graham
Bob: Welcome back to life on the grid. Your pioneering days are at an end! Juice is next...
Steve: Never heard of the bag trick - tell us more...
Juice: Sounds like the vacation trip from hell. But at least the flower girl made it to the alter on time!
Steve
* = since we're all on well water, none of my neighbors had any water. If you're on city water, that may (?) not be the case, unless the water department also failed.
Bob
I also use one of these when changing brake fluid.
KarenS - You're lucky your son has someone to SHOW him how not to do things; your hubby: VINDICATED! (Guys feel so good when that happens.)
Jim
Greg
I like the look a lot though.
Greg
Glad to hear you are feeling better and that everything was okay. Take your time healing up.
Does this extend the amount of time you get to hold onto the STI:-)
Bob- Glad to hear you are back in full power mode.
Mark
Now, why don't we have such events here in the US? I would sure love to be invited to a new product unveiling (hint, hint).
Ken
Then stuff a plastic bag around the hose at the gas tank opening. A dry cleaning bag is good for this but I've used grocery bags and garbage bags to good effect too.
Place your transfer jug on the ground under the tank opening and insert the hose in your mouth.
Now blow into the tank, holding the plastic tight against the tank filler opening with your hand. If the hose is inserted far enough (and you have sufficient gas in the car in the first place) you'll hear the satisfying sound of bubbles.
As you blow and start to imitate Louis Armstrong, the pressure will build up in the gas tank. After a few seconds of this, remove your mouth from the hose and quickly lower the free end into the container.
Hopefully you'll be rewarded with a nice whoosh sound and the gas will flow out of the tub.
If it doesn't work, you'll likely have a gassy hose and nasty lips for your next attempt.
Usual disclaimers - for all I know this may trigger the CEL with the new vapor recovery systems in newer cars or flood out the injectors. It's been a few years now since I've done this trick.

I called Subaru today to confirm my invite to the launch of the Outback and Liberty tomorrow night. "oh, the Liberty launch is tonight and the Outback tomorrow. Would you like an invite to both?" Hard question!
The new Liberty (Legacy to you) is gorgeous. On first inspection it looks very simlar to the 2003 Liberty but with a markedly more European (Alfa springs to mind) look to it. It has hints of speed and grace even when parked. It is noticable that there is a wind lip overhanging the door seals and wind noise is apparently reduced dramatically. Drag coefficient is 0.28 for the sedan.
Only about 10% of parts carry over from the prior model and the geeral impression is of a very classy, up-market vehicle, particularly in the GT.
The press shots do not convey the degree to which the headlamps taper back from the centre bonnet section, at about 45 degrees. The headlamp clusters themselves are exquisitely sculpted with the circular section you can see drawing down into the front bumper actually being the outline of a marked bulge. If I said that this would look petite at Hooters, you should get the general idea. It looks very cute and a styling idea I've never seen before.
Interior finish is excellent with much better plasict than previous Subarus. There is a little tasteful use of chrome highlights and many of the details suggest the car has seen a European design eye.
The GT is being sold as having 180kW in Australia although press reporting suggests the true figure is actually 191 for the auto. Manual GT will not be avaialbe for a year or more and is supposed to have 206kW.
Pricing is interesting. The Australian Dollar has strengthened markedly in the past twleve months (up about 25% against the USD) and this seems to be reflected in pricing that has seen mainstream models reduced about 5% year on year. That seems odd given that the vehicle is already price competitive and has markedly increased content over prior years. That may point to a target of conquest marketing against vehicles like the Mazda 6. At the top end, with the up-specced GT, it is serious comtetition for BMW and Mercedes buyers. At the low end, in a 2.0i it is very competititve against a wide range of medium and large Australian and import vehicles.
The Sunroof on the wagon is spectacular, taking the equivlaent space of the two sun roofs in the old Outback. The front 6 inches pops up as deflector and the rear retracts.
saftey seems to be a big priority with a substantially fancier ring beam protection structure right around the vehicle. Some of this protection is subtle. such as reinforcing beams in the rear doors that cross latch into the base of the door frame. On initial inspecion, you see only a plastic female moulding at the base of the door closer jamb. If you peer more closely you realize that there is a matching locating male structure on the door proper and that the plastic trim conceals a very solid metal locking structure.
If I can figure out how to scan a few pages and send them in managable file size, I will email to a few of you.
Cheers
Graham
Graham - Sounds great! The anticipation is driving us crazy here. :-)

If juice ever gets his power back I'm sure he'll corroborate. ;-)

Life here is still not settled. I am currently working 2 part time jobs after having decided not to go back into IT.
I'm still subbing, just about every day since administration and the teachers consider me a part of the staff after almost a year at Westglades Middle, Michael's school. I'll be taking my Subject Area Exam in Middle School Social Sciences on Oct 25th and applying for my full time certification as a Social Studies teacher here in Florida.
One of the advantages of subbing is that I was able to get Michael in the Honors classes, where he seems to be thriving...they are getting their interim report cards tomorrow and Michael says he will be getting 4 'A's and a 'B'.
My other job is designing and selling high-end closets at a chain called Organized Living...they just opened a store in Fairfax, VA, have 22 other stores, and are growing at the rate of 10 stores a year nationwide. They are planning on going public in 2 years, and I hope to be in sales management before then with them.
The problem with working 2 jobs is that I am exhausted...sometimes I go from subbing straight to the store; it makes for 14-15 hour days.
I hope all of you have recovered from your various illnesses, mishaps, etc...and a HUGE wlecome back to Patti and wishes for a speedy recovery (AGAIN!!!).
Michael is doing fine; I came home the other night from work at 11PM, and Susan said she has to talk to me; (I thought..."What did I do now?"...right guys, you know how that goes...LOL). She said that Michael wants to go on his first date! WHERE OH WHERE DID MY BABY GO? She told me who it was; I've subbed for this girl before; so we discussed it and agreed that it would be better as a group date to the movies; then the door creaked...Michael Big Ears had been listening the whole time (he should have been sleeping) and jumps on the bed...so sometime within the next 2 weeks, one of us will be driving him off to a brave new world.
Since January, Susan has been working as the Assistant Controller at TravelPro, the luggage maker, and enjoying it; but these last 2 weeks have been tense for us...she had to go through a needle biopsy yesterday and we should get the results today...the doctors said everying looks OK, but are doing it to be 100% sure that there is no malignancy (her mother had breast cancer and is fully recovered). We are hopeful.
The Subies are running fine, though Susan's legacy had some problems with the battery and braker lights coming on at the same time. Took it in, got a new battery, and Tuesday, I have to bring it in again for a new alternator, the real problem...strange that it should go bad after 2 years.
Anyway, I've rambled on enough...it is time to wish everyody a happy and healthy New Year and as we say in our religion, may G-d inscribe you in the Book of Life for a sweet and wonderful year.
Ciao kids
Serge, Susan Michael, and Dina the Dog
P.S. I'm going to try to post some pics in the gallery of our recent Disney trip...if you visit...do Mission Spce at Epcot...great ride, G-forces and all!)
Bob
Live and Enjoy Today
Tomorrow is another day to enjoy or worry, that can wait till tomorrow.
At least that's what I'm doing since January ;-)
-Dave
For now, Susan's job provides us with the medical benefits.
Pics are up at the gallery...crummy quality but viewable.
Serge
Good New Year to you as well. My folks are coming for the weekend, so we will go to services together for the first time in about 15 years or so.
Steve
Happy to hear things are going along down south. To you, and all members of the Crew: A Happy & Healthy New Year! May the new year be better.
Mark
Glad to hear your life is getting back to normal, and hope results from Susan test will come back clean.
Good luck to Michael with his dating endeavors!
Graham - thanks for the post and information. I'm so out of the loop! It'll be interesting to see if the side curtain airbags turn out to be standard in the U. S. Since I'm not permitted to call in or deal with any work issues, I'll have to wait until 10/20 to see what I hear.
I'm hanging in there. Really bored, but I've been sleeping for about 14 hours every day. I feel like such a lug. Oh well. I'm sure I'll be better soon. This has been one heck of a way to lose weight. I'd tell you how much, but it would probaby scare you and you'd all think there was something else wrong. The Dr. assures me it's because I was a bit messed up for awhile and I'm getting back to normal.
Has anyone spoken to Don (Yellowbike) lately? Marianne (his wife) has been in my thoughts.
Anyway, I'm reading away. Sorry I can't get involved with any issues yet. I'm sure they'll let me soon.
Patti
Interestingly enough my neighbours 26 year old daughter had the the same problem and I believe around the same weight, hers was discovered by accident as like you she had no inkling that she had it.
She was visiting her boyfriend in Germany when she got some sort of an infection, it was while investigating the infection they discovered the growth.
Cheers Pat.
