Only down side of all this - I might not make it to Santa Clara. I didn't think we would be going overseas until December, now it could be early November.....

Oops, it's my other friends that are adopting from Russia.

OK, I'll go with 14 months (as of now), because that's my son's age. So DOB of July 2002.

City? Xiamen. Reminds me of names Citreon uses for its cars, LOL.

Jim: As a father of two, I can imagine what kind of worry you're going through at this time, but I'm sure everything will be fine. My tjoughts are with you and your family.

    Steve: Shanghai, born May, 2001.

She went in yesterday morning to dr at 9:30 who sent her home with instructions to return to hospital at 6 PM . I spoke with her this morning about 7:30. They gave her something last night to soften and ripen the cervix and before they started the hormones this morning to induce contractions they started naturally. They were about 3 minutes apart at 7:30 AM. The little girl was born around 11:00 AM, weighing 7 lbs, 10 oz and 19 inches long. She has no name yet ... lol .. Mom and baby are doing fine.

Wherever you go and whatever the child's age, my best wishes to you.

Steve: 23 months, I'd guess south central China.

Brenda: the little girl looks to be a nice size and weight. Congrats to her (and your) family!

Congratulations Brenda and almost congratulations to you Steve. That's wonderful news. A rollercoaster of emotions here tonight as I read what my "friends" are dealing with.

Brenda and Steve, congratulations to all the new babies!

Quick update... the procedure went great. Braden now has a PICC line up under his armpit that goes all the way up a vein (I guess?) to a point just above the heart. Administration of the medicine is now much more simple than it was with the standard IV he had for less than 24 hours. As far as he's concerned this is a continuation of our Disney trip... He gets anything he wants and he's staying in a strange room. Thanks all for your kind thoughts, I know they made things go smoothly. The only bit of bad news we've now had is that a couple of doctors who are one step outside the CF loop raised their eyebrows when we mentioned going home after ~ day 5, but we think they'll talk to our CF specialists and get it resolved. I just printed all your comments and I'm going to show my wife/save them for Braden to look at someday. Thanks again.

a rather unusual series of postings here; from lows to highs. Let's hope the lows get high, and the highs gets higher. :)

Hope I'm not saying out of line.

Without lows, there couldn't be highs, and the highs can't grasp the meaning of higher.

    Serge, Jim-
All the best will come your way :)

..First time poster here, but I've been a constant lurker on the Subaru Crew boards for over 2 years now, so I feel that I know many of you personally. I have to say that there is an incredible core of amazing people in the Crew, and I often wonder if owning a Subaru somehow makes people 'good folks' or if good folks are somehow attracted to Subarus. Chicken or egg? I'll add my good thoughts to those of the Crew for Serge and Jim, and share in the excitement and anticipation of Steve's new family addition.
So what finally prompted me to join as a member and sign in? Well, we (wife) took delivery of a '04 Impreza TS 2.5 wagon today, so it's officially a garage full of Subies. Yay!! Hers joins my '98 Forester L, which we have enjoyed thoroughly for the last two and a half years and 60K km. Hers is the new San Remo Red, which is quite bright (think - 'arrest me!'), and it makes my old (white) Forester look a little pale. When's that new Legger coming?
She gave up a '88 Honda Civic hatch which she owned since new and has been great, but has started to show its age. After a long period of subtle persuasion and coaxing, I was able to steer her away from Mother Honda and get her into a Subie. Certainly our favorable experience with the Forester helped sway her. You only have to drive Subaru all-wheel drive once on a crappy Calgary weather day to really appreciate it. Honda don't got that.
Anyway, nice to 'meet' you all, I'll try to post more (than once)! For any Canadian owners out there; Subkid et al, Do any of you know of Canadian online parts and accessory retailers? Need stuff for the TS.
    Regards, Owen

Congrats on the Impreza. Have you checked out the Subaru Crew: Canadian Owners? I don't recall offhand if anyone has posted where to purchase accessories in Canada, but it's worth a look.

    Jim: Great news about Braden!

    Brenda: Congratulations, Grandma!

    Steve: Zhangjiang, 16 months.
  • fibber2fibber2 Member Posts: 3,786
Brenda: Congrats! You never sounded old enough to be a grandmother.... So now your typing will slow and your quick, sharp wit will mellow as you begin to feel your age?? ;-)

Dave: I do understand what you said, but still, it would be nice if bad things didn't happen to great people...

Owen: Welcome to a great board, and enjoy you new ride.

Owen: Welcome to the boards. Check out the Subaru Impreza board. There have been a couple other Canadians posting there recently. As an 04 OBS owner myself, hey, nice choice!

Jim- Glad to hear things are looking up.

Brenda- Congrats for you and your family. Now a days you don't have to be "old" to be a grand"relative". My wife and I are grand uncle and aunt (twice)at the ripe old age of 41.

Owen- Welcome to the crew.(although sounds like you have been an unofficial member for a few years)

If Braden is going to read this, then listen up, YOU DA CHAMP, buddy, hang in! You've got a whole, "virtual" support group thinking about you in several different cities across the globe!

Brenda - congrats! How many grandkids now?

Owen: welcome and congrats to your wife. BTW, the '98 Forester L is the best Subaru ever, I don't care what anyone else says, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! :o)

The photographer came by, as planned, and took about five rolls of film, so it must've been important to the NY Times. My fingers are crossed, hoping we make the cover of the Cars section, either October 22 or 27.

Only if it's for my beer belly! ;-)

Lucky was displayed prominently in just about every photo. Sandy was in the background in some pics, so it depends on which one they decide to use, if any.

We had both kids, even the dog, in the car, on the car, around the car, you name it. Who knows what they'll print.

Wow. I've been away a while, and won't be able to post much for the forseeable future. I'll drop in when I can.

Just wanted to express congratulations to all those experiencing "highs", and sincere condolences to those who aren't.

I apologize if that sounds a bit impersonal, it's not meant to be.

We've had some highs and lows ourselves lately. I've been promoted to a newly created position that I've been lobbying for since last year. That's the good news, but since they haven't replaced me in my old position, I'm wearing 2 hats - a situation that won't change until next year at the earliest.

My employer is profitable and hiring, but we're in the middle of the largest, riskiest project in our team history (ecommerce software), and in my new role, I've been given more responsiblity for our collective success. So I'm stressing a bit.

Personally, we've had more ups than downs lately, although today we got some bad news that I won't go into right now. It will all work out in the end...

    Best regards to all,

it would be nice to go to hawaii .. but i am so afraid to fly (even before 9/11) that they'd have to just drug me for the flight ....
  • dcm61dcm61 Member Posts: 1,567
Brenda - Take a cruise! Several cruise lines offer them leaving from various west coast ports (US, Canada, Mexico). Some are one way, some round trip. Book a one way and just stay in Hawaii. ;-)

Juice: Will you still have time for us 'little people' when you become a famous automobile spokesman & advisor???

Brian: Hope all works out for you. Share what and when you can and feel comfortable.

Pat: How is your daughter these days? Full recovery fom the accident?

Update on us: A DHL package left Beijing several days ago with our documents, but was reported lost yesterday somewhere in the USA!!!! Beth is going crazy with anticipation.

But on a fun note, the older sister of the Japanese high school exchange student that we hosted in '01-'02 is traveling in the USA looking at graduate schools. I met her last year when I was in Japan, and she gave me a wonderful tour of Osaka. She has been staying with us for the last few days, so it is a timely distraction.

I hate flying too. But I have been to the islands 3 times (she wonders if I do something illegal on the side since she knows I am a teacher.)

Live with the flight because it is worth it. Temps are only in the 80's in the summer. You can watch the volcano erupt. My wife referred to our 1984 trip as our honeymoon but I considered it to be a geological field trip. Mahi mahi, Ahi, Ono, fresh water Prawns, Mai Tai, etc. Snorkelling. Pineapple until you get an upset stomach just by LOOKING at one. Dodging pineapples falling off trucks on Maui. Wearing a half dozen cheap shell heishie necklaces to look cool. Hilo Hatties aloha shirts and Crazy Shirts T Shirts. Sunburn. Mauna Loa, Mauna Kea and the touring the world's largest telescope. Tom's Hotel $10 a night but no electricity at the bottom of the Wiapio valley. Getting there fording streams in a Land Rover. Rental Mustang convertible dodging the occasional rainstroms. Kona Coffee. Mauna Loa Macadamia nuts.

I have been thinking about silver lately, and I was checking out the '04 Impreza brochure this morning.

When I was getting ready to cross 42nd street, a silver WRX sedan drove by. :)

I was only about 10 miles from my car (or my EZ Pass) this past Sunday. :( We were in Hoboken and when I checked my EZ Pass account Monday, the theives took Exit 14C on the Turnpike (Holland Tunnel/Jersey City).

Thanks for asking, yes she is fully recovered, but unfortuately has just learned that she will still have to do a tour of duty in Iraq sometime in the new year.

Needless to say the news does not impress us one bit given the hit and run tactics being employed over there.

     Cheers Pat.

Afraid to fly, yet your fingers fly all over the keyboard at the chats! ;-)

Bruce: I'm sold, and you weren't even talking to me! For some reason all our friends have been honeymooning in Maui, my brother-in-law, and the couple in that wedding in Tuscon, AZ that I just missed.

My contact at the Times (that makes it sound more special than it is) confirmed that we will be featured on 10/22, at a minimum, when she finds out more she'll let me know.

but it was an evening for celebration in our house. We got the phone call and an e-mail with some preliminary information!!!

Lan Cai Hong was born on December 13, 2002, in the city of Nanching, in Jiangxi province (that's about 400 miles west south-west of Shanghai). So she is considerably younger than we had asked for, but we are elated. Gotcha day will probably be a week or so before Thanksgiving.

Crew Beer Game? It is a split decision:
Juice was closest in age, at 14 months.
Serge, Jon & Frank guessed port of entry as Shanghai. Karens guess of Zhangjiang (Zhenjiang??) is also close by.

So how would the five of you like your cold one - delivered, or would you like to stop by and pick it up?

    Steve
  • twrxtwrx Member Posts: 647
Steve I did not have a clue on the beer game. However I am very happy for you for your good news. The adoption is a totally cool thing!

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I'll stop by NY some time to pick up the beer personally, and met Lan Cai Hong. Will you change the name? "AJ" has a nice ring to it. ;-)

More importantly, congrats, I think that's great.

Chat was busy, too bad I kept getting kicked out, and suffered board lag.

We used part of the Chinese name (Yulan) as Emily's middle name, and expect we will do the same with Lancai. We are still debating on her new American first name.

Juice, I am sorry to report that Airton didn't make the 'short list'.... ;-)

to steve and family (soon to be larger). I'm sure the anticipation is heightened even more now that you have some specifics. I'm a parent, the 'normal' way, but I can't help but admire adoptive parents and all the things they're willing to go through to be parents. I feel like I took the easy way out. You and your family should feel very good about this.

Too bad. What about the alternate spelling, Ayrton? Same as the famous F1 pilot.

juice: Airton/Ayrton is also a feminine name? News to me. I thought you'd be working on me in the names department. ;-p
