Thanks, and sounds like you had a good week with the family visit also!

You hit upon one of the good/bad (interesting) aspects of inter-racial adoption - you never blend in to the crowd. Emily can be a pretty outgoing kid, and usually makes an impression wherever she goes. The constant exclaim from strangers of "I know you!", not because they really remember Beth or me, but because of Emily!

I really feel for you. Some years ago I was asked by my dad to accompany him out to eastern Suffolk County to recover his car stolen from Massapequa railroad station. They ran it out of fuel deep in a potato field after flogging it severely. Emptied a fire extinguisher in the interior, damaged seats, steering column, the works. Needless to say, my father was heartbroken.

Car ownership is an emotional thing. Not on par with family or pets, but the attachment should not be discounted or trivialized. And despite insurance, the cost of selling and moving on was beyond what my dad could afford to do at the time. He had to lick his wounds and try and move on. A year or two later their home was broken into and vandalized. Between the two incidents, they felt severely violated.

Steve K works over in B/330, and Lynn (postmodern) is over in B/300 now. We should have a Subi Crew lunch over at the redone cafeteria!

Well I do think the sedan must be somewhat more of an insurance risk. Got a bill yesterday and I am going to owe $140 more per year for the 2003 WRX sedan over the 2002 WRX wagon. Actually I have not been living in the real world, my 2002 WRX wagon had not cost me anymore in insurance than my '98 Forester had. Also living in a small city in the midwest is not exactly too tough on insurance rates either.

I wonder how your company would price insurance for an XT.

Can you believe that St. Farm did not charge me any more for the WRX wagon over the Forester?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Well, yes and no. Depends on how they categorize the Forester. Trucks cost more to insure, since they do more damage to other vehicles.

The WRX is high performance, so that evens things out. I'm surprised the sedan is that much more.

Insurance is a voodoo science, no? ;-)

'97 Outback, car never had an alarm in it, but after having the head gasket re-done and the battery disconnected for 2 weeks, there is an alarm blinking the lights on it. I need to disable this so my grandfather doesn't have to pay $100 to the local dealer to disable it. Need to know ASAP. Thanks guys.

A sedan, well, they see it as a sedan. Tag "WRX" on it and they see a sports sedan.

A wagon,... they seem to class it a suburban, like the Forester and Outback. Tag "WRX" on it, it's still a grocery getting suburban to them.

look behind the hood release lever under the dash, There's a tinnie winnie l'il button. Press it and all will be fine :)

mike: get the keyless remote, lock, unlock a few cycles. Mine stops when I do that.

There also may be a thin rectangular black box buried behind the little button on the left side half way to the firewall, with some switches to play with. I had to dig mine out and move jumpers to turn off the chirping - I have my instructions buried around here somewhere if you are still stuck.

    Dennis,

Just catching up & read about your wagon. I'm sure one hand you are happy to know what happened to the car, while on the other hand it stinks getting it back in that condition. Hopefully all will work out via the insurance.

    Good Luck!

    Thanks Mark.

Ken - Not sure if they were caught. I'm still trying to find out more info.

    I couldn't find the button :(

But however, I found the control box for the keyless entry, and since they lost their key fobs I just yanked the connectors off and all is good now :)

Mike: Where did you find the keyless entry control box? (besides 'right where Subaru left it') :) I want to try to restore the 'chirp'.

    Cheers!

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I think if you hold both buttons down for a few seconds, the chirp comes back to life.

Was right next to the brake pedal clearly labeled "Subaru Keyless Remote Entry System" It may have been a bit more tucked up there, but not much. It's about 5" x 5" black box.

I don't think that trick works on the '97's Juice. I had to move jumpers inside the black box. Mine has the optional Sube alarm too, so it could be a bit different I suppose.

I wasn't able to kill the chirp with just the fobs.

Also, I have a Forester, the fob was different for my '98. I guess I was referring to my wife's Legacy (2002).

My wife and I used to go to the Hyatt often, but that was before we became parents. They have nice sports bar that's nicely stocked and not too noisy or smokey. They put together a nice Sunday brunch too.

I had an apartment right on the Raritan river (under the bridge almost) that was on the Edison-Highland Park border. We are in East Brunswick now for the past 8yrs.

    Enjoy!

but an ocean / river trip too. Not this weekend but next. I drive down to to Baltimore (Dundalk) to take a cruise up to Bar Harbor; Halifax & Sydney, Nova Scotia; down the St. Lawrence to Quebec City; back up the river to Boston and back to Baltimore (12 days later).

I'd be willing to "sacrifice" my Outback for the benefit of AZP skidplate research and clinical trials :-)

The Mazda chat went very well Tuesday night. Bob mentioned to me in passing that there were a few more than what normally shows for Subaru Crew chat.

    Hmmmm.....is that a challenge???

    See you at tonight's chat!
  • c_hunterc_hunter Member Posts: 4,487
So what are you going to be test driving.....

.. and maybe the 1992 Ford Ranger for sale down the street. :-)

    -Dennis
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
That would be the one. Sneakers hosted the Mazda chat and, while the list didn't roll off the screen, it was well attended.

Sounds like a challenge to me :-)

I know the XT will be a blast to drive, but you might be disappointed in the handling compared to your WRX. My wife's Forester runs circles around my Outback, but it definitely feels clumsy compared to the WRX.

That said, if the XT was available a year ago, I probably would not have bought the WRX at all.

    They don't get stolen.

    <juice ducks>

Can't make the chat tonight, but it's been great lately and this reminder means Bob might actually remember. ;-)

Looks like we're leaving tomorrow AM, no time to stop though, 2 kids in tow...
