Stay strong. Keeping Susan, you, and your family in my prayers.

Also, I'm sure you may already be inundated with information and literature, but I thought perhaps this site about talking to your kids about cancer may be helpful.

Hang in there. I've gone through this with loved ones, and I know these things come as a real shock. It can knock the wind out of you and be a difficult time. If you have a good doctor, he will guide you through this. The important thing, which I can tell you guys know, is to look into the future and do whatever it takes to beat the cancer and get your lives back to normal.

Your news certainly shocked me too. Please don't lose hope on this finding. While this news might seem like a setback, it probably is a critical finding to determine the right course of treatment to win the battle.

    Hang in there!

An '85 is about 19 years old, just keep that in mind. Its technology is on par with a modern Kia.

But really, I'm just trying to keep Dennis in the Subie fold. ;-)

Serge: sending positive thoughts your way.

    Serge,
More positive thoughts for you, Susan and Michael from the west coast. Take care and keep that upbeat attitude.

My mother in law is currently undergoing chemo for colon cancer (second round, first was 20 yrs ago). Fortunately they caught it early and everything is going well.

Get a new OBS, didn't you really like yours? They go for around $17k, I'm sure you can afford that if you had a WRX before.

is the boat that I take into manhattan everyday (I take the 2:30pm boat into manhattan, that was the 3pm that crashed going back to SI) But today I drove in my SVX to work, which is across the street from the ferry in Manhattan.

My estimate is that there will be 50 dead based on my vast knowledge (almost 20 years riding the boat daily) of the situation. They were also 500-1000 feet off from the slip. Eyewitnesses said it hit at Full Throttle.

Hang in there... We all are thinking of you here in the Bay Area...
  • wrxsoon1wrxsoon1 Member Posts: 158
    Mike,
Glad to hear you chose to drive to work today. Not that you would have been on that boat but still. Why do you think there will be so many more casualties?

    -Ian
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Cause the video I'm seeing, show the front getting slammed and then through the side. There is usually 20-25 people standing on the bottom deck where it got whacked, then another 10-12 on the stairs, then 20-25 in the corridor on the right side of the stairs, and probably another 30-40 along the windows to where the gouge stops. So that's about 150-200 people in the area that got whacked, so I think there may be more casualties. And that steel that got taken out is heavy guage, like 1"-3" thick!!!!

Yesterday afternoon, we told Michael what was happening; he took it in stride when he realized that the prognosis is excellent. Susan told him she wants to be around for his first drive in the Subie (that's a scary thought!!! LOL). At this point, if the second doctor confirms the findings (appt on the 22nd), then most likely, Susan will have a double, since the chances of this type of cancer going to the other side is high.
In a way, some of the worries are lessened and knowing that Michael is OK has a soothing effect...we are going to do what is necessary and move on.

Saw that ferry in the news, good thing you weren't on it, mike.

I think it only has rudders in the back. Clearly, if it had rudders in front as well, that would never have occurred. Does it need all-rudder drive? :-(

Serge: take the cue from Michael and keep the spirits up.

paisan: Odd, I thought of you yesterday when I caught the SI Ferry news and again this morning when I passed a very well maintained SVX (green, not maroon) on the way to work. Hope none of your friends or neighbors were harmed.

I won't likely be making any chats for the next month or so. My wife and I start childbirth classes tonight, which will run every Thursday night for the next 4 weeks.

Thanks for the thoughts guys... Maybe I should move out of NYC! Let's see, you guys thought of me:

    Blackout
    9/11
    Ferry Crash

Is this a sign from above????

I think we can all learn from kids, and Michael taking it in stride is probably the best approach! Kids have a way of distilling things down to a simple level and then reacting in a simple way. Sometimes, I think it's more advanced than us adults!

That reminds me of a funny story. When my wife and I were at our first ever class, the nurse was explaining that the mothers could have two "coaches" in the birthing room. As to who to choose, she explained that it should be somebody that you wouldn't be embarassed to have in the bathroom with you while you did your business. Sensing a moment of pure comic genius, I say "see ya'!" and start to walk out. Even my wife had to laugh at that one.

    Your timing was spot-on. ;-)

Tell you this, the 2nd time around, it's much easier. You know what to expect and almost feel like an expert.

Also, you'll earn a whole new respect for your momma, and start calling her more often! LOL

also going your way from our home.

If it's any help - - I had a chat with my son the other night about "life". He's 17 now, but he was talking about his impressions when his Dad was diagnosed. I was so afraid. His prognosis was not good at all. We explained to the kids that he was sick and we were all going to have to band together to help him get better. My son now reflects back how he was never afraid during this fiasco. He said he was just sure it would be okay because we seemed sure. He even laughed about his sister brushing Dad's hair in the yard and telling him to "make a wish" as it flew away. Joe (my son) said that everything seemed to be the "normal way you deal with this". Now, my husband is 10 years cancer free. It's wonderful that our son looks back on it like this. I hope that Michael is okay. I'd be happy to put him in touch with my children if you think it will help. Let me know?

Stay strong and positive and give Susan our love.

You are 100% right...it is all attitude; Susan told her mother, who is generally very negative, that if she doesn't improve her attitude, she will not be welcome in our house during these times...

    hee hee

Chat was good, but I kept getting the hiccups on my computer, getting kicked out repeatedly. I Don't know what's going on, only the last 2 chats I've had problems, and nothing has changed on my PC or connection for months. I even tried removing the Firewall and still had the same problem.

Any suggestions on what to check? I also experience major board lag. This on a fast connection where I can download 1700 kbps at times!

I'm on a Mac and finally changed to the non-Java chat. It has been months since I participated. This works though it is not as interactive.

We are still going back and forth on a small set of names, and were discussing the topic over dinner. Beth (DW) mentioned that on one of her chat boards somebody mentioned naming after cars (ie Mercedes, Lexus, etc.). My 7 yr old chimes in that we should name the baby "Subaru Outback"! I objected on the basis that we already had one family member named that....

    Steve

PS: what if they both came running when I called?
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
saw my first XT on the road in our area today. It was a black non-premium (no moonroof). However, it was going the opposite way, so it was really just a glance as it passed by. The hood scoop is very subtle from that view.

Still trying to avoid (lol) a test drive of one since I know it'll muddy my anticipation of the '05 Legacy turbo. I'm going to have to get that recall done on our Outback (the rear suspension coating thing) one of these days....must...resist....

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Steve: statistically, you should choose either Steve, Dave, or Mike. So why not Steve Jr? :o)

Of course then you'd both come running when your wife called!

Papa Bear - we just had that done. Guess I should crawl underneath to check out exactly what they did...

    G'day

Just picked up a message on my mobile (cell) phone. Would I like the local dealer to drop around an Outback H6 to try? What do you think?

    Cheers

You will fall in love, and want to trade up. Then the wife gets angry because you had promised her when you bought the present OB that you would keep it until the kids were out of college.... Stay away!

(How soon can he have it in your driveway? How long can you keep it?)

    Resist!
