utahsteve - Congrats on your marriageto Meika!
Fabulous album. I've got a French Alps/Provence honeymoon that needs that treatment! LOL! Looks like a great trip. I've done that drive across Nevada further north (Jackpot to Reno). Lake Tahoe is awesome. I absolutely love the Southern Oregon/Northern CA coast. I've been on that beach at Face Rock, amazing rock formations.
You'll have to come north a bit further next time and see the Mt. Rainier, the San Juan Islands, Vancouver Island/Victoria B.C. and the North Cascades highway.
Dennis - The N.W. is quite beautiful. Then again I'm biased. ;-) I'd like to see the east some time. Furthest I've been is South Dakota!

Platinum mother's ring? I'll have to look into that. She loves jewelry. Who doesn't, right? I also had her ring re-set, a couple of years ago.
Ian: no, but Craig's PDF (I think it was Craig) was pretty good quality. The B&W in the paper was grainy, even though it was bigger.

('07 OB in Boise)
Sorry, we drove from Crater Lake to the east side of Boise and checked into a hotel... it was dark before we even got there, and all interstate anyway. At that point we were just wanting to make some miles and get home. The next day was all interstate as well. I would like to spend more time in Idaho, I've mostly just driven through
I'll always remember this about Boise: The table next to us at the restaurant that night ordered french fries, but the waitress said they were out of potatoes, LOL! What the ???
utahsteve
The nice thing about the southern interstate here that follows the Snake River basin is that, while pretty in its own way to some of us, it's really not all that attractive to people passing through. So the crowds keep heading to Yellowstone or Hood River :-)

In my best Chris Farley voice: "Oh my friggin' lord!"
This was a gold 'stock' MT XT with just the turbo gauge as the only installed option. Had about 200 miles on it. Ride is decent, feels similar to my Outback, noise level isn't quieter than my Outback whose OEM Firestones have become slightly noisy in their age. Steering felt a bit lighter, but seemed similar to the Outback.
It's been over a year since we got rid of our Saturn SL which had a MT. I wasn't rusty per se, but the XT clutch grabbed early (as it should) and caught me off guard a little. My 1->2 shifts weren't as smooth as I'd like, but that would come with more seat time.
I did my best and kept the tach under 4k RPMs. Acceleration is amazing. 8-) Wow. You can hear a slight 'whoosh' every once in a while. I wonder what that is? ;-)
This certainly muddies up my new car decisions. I originally expressed interest for the XT when it first came out. I held off on driving one, waiting instead for the new Legacy to come out. But, I could very, very easily be swayed to the 'dark side' and get a black MT XT. I'm going to need some counseling...

My nephew decided to draw on Sandy with his Power Ranger. Left this white stuff pin striped all over her. Luckily, it came off, though.
There already is a Forester X model. I wouldn't give him any more ideas...
Close call driving home in the Miata in the rain...tail came out and I nearly spun. I need new tires *now*. And that helped me change my mind about summer tires. I'll ask for some feedback in the Mods topic.
I also need to smarten up and take my Subie in inclement weather!

I think I have the body damage to trump you. I was on a farm today and went to drive off. Farm dog started biting my front tyre (he's already marked it carefully - very male) and I laughed.
Not so funny when I found he had bitten repeatedly into the front bumper ahead of the tyre and their are now doggy jaw prints in my paintwork, right into the plastic. It's a fill and r espray job. certainly going to be one of the odder insurance claims. There is a sort of irony given that I investigate wierd Insurance Claims

The Miata is parked until I get new tires mounted. I should have known better. Tread depth along does not indicate the full condition of the tire. The rubber is dry and hard, not grippy at all.
So Sandy is working overtime now, commuting and hauling the kids around. I think she kind of likes the extra attention.
I'll miss the chat tomorrow because it's our 10th anniversary. My wife is giving me those tires. She was shopping on-line as well, so I think I'm going to give her all the clothes she was eyeballing.
Trust me, she came out *way* ahead, LOL.

Reminds me, the poor pooch missed out, he was inside the Legacy when they took the picture and you can't see him at all.

I'm aching to get to CA to visit our crew. Maybe when you get to schedule it again, I'll be at a better point to go out there too!

The chat was fun. It's always good to see some new faces (fingers).

As for teaching, I took my subject area exam in Middle School Social Studies last weekend. They alloted 2 1/2 hours for the exam; I finished in 45 minutes, so either I am dumb and failed or I am smart and aced it! The choice is yours!.
Both the principal and eigth grade asst principal asked me to let them know my grade, so hopefully a full time position will be forthcoming.
Serge
Serge- I can't imagine what you guys are going through; I am heartened to read how much strength and hope you both are carrying.
Fibber-....and the same week, you 2 will be going through an extraordinary experience of a very different sort. You must be bursting with excitement!
Good luck to you Steve (fibber). I have a short biz trip next week myself (2 days) and hopefully that will be the last before our big event.
Ed
Thanks, Patti. We went to an Italian/Indian restaurant. Yes, a rather bizarre combination, but good eats. The Indian owners apparently bought the place, but the community wanted to keep the Italian menu, so they offer both.
The Samosas were spicey. The Hawaiian pizza was even better!
Loosh: let's double-date, we'll go back there for some Ceasar Salad and Curry next year! LOL
Serge: every time I finished early the outcome was good, so I expect the same for you. Being a Subie owner, it was virtaully your destiny to teach.
OK, that week in November will be an important week for the Crew!
Ed the Daddy. Sounds like a pretty good excuse to me.

It's hilarious, the building engineers are cutting power to the building (it was planned), but we're claiming credit for "taking over the ship".
Handing out candy while we're at it.
I'll try to get pics.

Wow, I'm beat. My feet are sore. We handed out $80 worth of candy! And that's not including the candy we bought to give out from home!
I really love Halloween. I moved to Brazil when I was 12, and came back here when I was 17, so I really missed the prime trick-or-treating years. Now I have kids so I have an excuse.
I think that slogan is the best they've ever had, you can tell her I said so. I'll watch that show, should be fun. A friend of mine here at the World Bank once competed and took 2nd place.
Pics will be up soon, we're building a web site!

Turned out to be such an enjoyable evening the time really flew and we were not back until after ten.
Serge, we are all pulling for you both hang in there.
Steve and Beth happy trails to you both.
Cheers Pat.
Loosh: Agreed. I've been talking with a few friends of mine and we think Brazil would be a very timely film for re-release.
No costume for me this year. Will have to start thinking of them for next year. Maybe me as Dr. Zoidberg from Futurama (lab coat, shave head, red face paint, lobster claw oven mitts, hang a red rubber glove in front of my mouth) and dressing the little one up as Nibbler (black bodysuit, diaper, single eyeball dealie-bobber on top of head).
Ed
He probably doensn't even know what that means yet. Ha ha, just wait, you'll know! LOL
