Oh, wait I think I have it...would it be Arrrr? ;-)

Bob, the guy picking people up, is a nut. He's hilarious. Drives a big extended cab heavy duty pickup. Funniest part is that he's the best lawyer in our company. The fact that he has a sense of humor only makes people like him more.

Captain Feathersword, indeed. In fact that's who I was tonight, with my daughter. Had to be the friendly pirate with her. ;-)

    Happy Halloween!

we had about six last year, so I thought buying about 6 big bags of chocolate would be about right for the proper amount of leftovers
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
We didn't give out half of the stuff we bought, and the kids collected 4 buckets full!

Okay, I'm a newbie to the Wiggles. And my daughter's favorites are Henry the Octopus and Dorothy the Dinosaur.

We actually got one this year!!!! That alone has made my year! ;-) First trick or treat I've given out in 3 years! Fortunately we only bought one bag of Hershey's Milk Chocolate bars. Funny part is I ate 1/4 of it this week. Good thing we didn't get more kids coming by!

Wow, lots of stuff going on!

Steve: Great news. Can't wait to hear all about the new little fibber!

Serge: I'm sure Susan's surgery and recovery will go perfectly -- you guys are in my thoughts and prayers.

For a while, I really thought that Captain Feathersword was Mel Gibson undercover! They bear a striking resemblance. My 2 year old is still a big Wiggles fan, but my 5 year old loves Rugrats and Rocket Power.

Unfortunately I missed the chat this week. I was actually home for it, but I was so tired I fell asleep before it started!

    Jon

P.S. My 2 year old just walked up to me with walkman headphones on his head and the other end of the wire in his mouth, looked me straight in the eye and in his most deadpan voice says, "time for the doctor!" Hilarious....

Well, we had a grim reaper, a skeleton, & Pocohontas in our house last night... now that's diversity! Neighbor & I idled around the loop in his van & stayed warm while our kids doorbelled. I snagged all the leftover MilkyWay midgets & hid them in the freezer!
Other neighbors got truly serious... had the adult party in their motorhome, carted the kids around from block to block & had a warming shack on wheels to boot!

Steve: It's all falling into place... must be meant to be!

Serge & Susan: Add my prayers & best wishes to everyone elses. The power of prayer & positive thinking is vastly underrated.

    Cheers!

I am a very new member based on ownership having had my '04 OBS for about 23 hours now. I decided if I'm going to sell them I also need to own one. That's the reason for my "having" to get one anyway. We'll see how well it flies or doesn't. Anyway, I'm now not only reading the forums but an owner also.

LD, I lived in Houston most of my life and RARELY saw a Subaru. Moved to South Bend Indiana 3 years ago and bought one for the snow and ice here. I LOVE IT. I've seen more and more Subarus the last few visits to Houston, though, so someone around there is selling some!

Ian: you ate some candy before the kids came? LOL

Pat: awesome! Hope you didn't run out!

Cool, so the guy that sold *both* Subarus that are registered in Texas is now a member of our Crew! Welcome! :-)

And to let you in on an inside joke, we often talk about demographics, one of them being there seems to be lots of Daves, Mikes, Steves, and otherwise lots of names with a K, including yours. So I have a feeling you'll fit right in.

I spent 10 years in San Antonio; my wife is from there. No one knew what we bought in 1999 when we picked up our OB, and then our 2.5GT.

Thanks to the WRX and Lance, they do now, though!

Thing is folks, anyone selling cars in TX has it rough. For those of you on the east coast, take a look at the number of, oh, say VWs and Subarus you see on the road as compared to SUVs (not even counting the RAV-4, CR-Vor Forester). Reverse the proportion= TX.
  • fibber2fibber2 Member Posts: 3,786
No, not China yet... Santa Clara for 5 days. Sorry Patti, but I just couldn't wait for you! I will be meeting the "Silicon Valley" crew (Ken, Jim & Kate) for dinner on Wednesday night. But it is not too late for you to make a surprise appearance! People - it is cold out here! Warmer in NY....

Serge & Susan - as everyone said, we are all pulling for you guys. Anything less than 100% success is totally unacceptable!

Emily was a Princess, complete with a blond wig! It looked great. Asian features, jet black hair sticking out from under golden long locks. We hit some nice neighborhoods and scored some good candy. But with where we live, not a soul came near.

We are still lost in limboland. After all the hype, no confirmation as to whether the US Consulate appt is set, so no travel plans. Maybe we will get news tomorrow....

    1) Went to Freys (sp?) last night. Amazing store. Everything that requires electricity, all under one roof. Refrigerators to resistors, at decent prices, and amazing 'depth' in every product line. We NEED this on the East Coast.

    2) Ever have a strong premonition, and pay the price for ignoring it? Friday night - rushing to get home for Halloween. Needed something for the flight Saturday morning, so hit Wal-Mart. Spot right by the door, but a gamey looking pickup truck is poorly parked in the next stall. Better judgment said pass, but took it anyhow. Sure enough, my basically virginal OB paid the price. 6" long corner of the bumper damage! Paint scraped right off (3") by those rusty chrome bumpers. Something to deal with when I return....

    3) Brazil - one strange but funny/sad movie!

I guess it's a little too extreme to wish the parking lot patrol would shoot the violators but not by much. After one day my OBS got a nice ding and about a 1.5" paint scuff from someone who tossed their door out and left it against my door when they got out. The resulting bobbing up and down of their car put the scuff on the door. I know it's inevitable but happening on day two really sucks. The worst part is I chose a spot relatively isolated with a curb on the right side and parked far right in the space so there was LOTS of room. Oh well.. at least now I don't have to wonder and dread the day coming.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I try to get end spots, and park towards the outside, almost touching the curb.

People still manage to ding me. It's like their trying to!

Had a fun day at Summit Point yesterday, watching paisan hit the track, and checking out the cool cars. It's quite a car culture; I felt like I was at home with like minds. 100% different than the 1/4 mile dragster crowd.

I'll give the full report later today, I'm trying to get a photo up.

juice: Sounds like fun. I went on a backroads drive for what will likely be the last time for a long time.

We went to see Lost In Translation last night. I don't think it was quite as bad as you thought, but parts of it dragged horribly. They could have cut a lot of the scenes of the female lead staring out the hotel window. I actually felt like I could relate to parts of the movie, at least when it comes to long-distance business travel and the sense of isolation it brings.

    Ed
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Maybe that's it - I've never really gone far on business trips, just local jaunts. So I couldn't relate I guess.

Either that or it reminds me what it's like to be bored, therefore it is boring.

Those parts that dragged on almost made my wife walk out!

An attempted WRX theft Saturday (about 5 miles from where my car was stolen. lady ran out screaming at the theives), and a successful theft at Willowbrook mall on Sunday.

Another day at the track, paisan passes a slower car saddled with drive to merely two wheels:

    http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid87/p0b3065e0898dfb98b526- 63de6aa20ac3/faa7f9b9.jpg

That poor Porsche driver never knew what hit him. This is why AWD was banned from BTCC, for being an unfair advantage.

    Now for the whole story:

Solo II/III class heads out on the pace lap, the Subaru Crew (juice and Bob H.) made it out to support paisan and his "Franken L" race car. With a pavement scorching 137hp and a bone-stock powertrain saddled to an automatic, and only AWD and driver skill to compensate, Mike start in 5th position out of 32. Adrenaline is pumping, you can feel it. You can smell it in the fumes.

2nd lap, you can hear Franken L coming, with the straight pipe wailing it was the 2nd loudest car of the group. Mike has moved up to 4th position, passing a slower Porsche 911 (LOL).

3rd lap, we see the leader, 2nd, 3rd car, WHERE IS MIKE?!

Was he black flagged? Ran out of gas? Where AWD vehicles assessed a stop-go penalty because of their advantage? Could a Subie with a mere 144k miles be unreliable?

Of course not. paisan pitted to adjust his seat! Lost several positions, too, re-joined the group in 9th position.

As I watch, I do the match in my head - paisan has approximately 2400 horsepower in front of him. To his 137. Unfair.

To those in front of him, that is. Franken L comes scorching around the corner, with little roll and a flat stance, and at speeds that saw a Camaro with a live axle spinning off the circuit. All wheels are gripping around the corners, while lesser cars with 2WD ease off to avoid spinning off the hairpin in front of us.

We watch as the little Subie that could gains a position or two each lap. He's in 6th now, then 5th, 3rd! By the end of the 25 minute sessions, he's in 2nd, even after the pit stop!

The field of cars includes a pair of STis, a couple of EVOs, several Vettes and pony cars, an RX7, and a BMW M coupe. They never knew what him 'em. ;-)

    Thanks juice!

Although there are positions, it wasn't a "race" per say. I did have a blast passing the porsche, at least 3 mustangs (SVT, GT, Regular), 2 vettes, and several other cars :)

The L rocks! Can't wait to put in the WRX turbo and IC and injectors and Boost controller and paint the car, or maybe we won't paint it :)

    Pics are up at http://TeamIAC.com

Thanks for coming out guys!!! With the 3rd circuit being built at SPR, we will likely be down there a lot next spring and summer. And the L is always available if you want to do an event!

Thanks also to our sponsor http://Race-Sport.net for letting us use the infared lap timer and provinding brakes and other equipement for us!

lol, I didn't really want to say anything, but it did look funny seeing a beater looking rig in front of that Porsche.

If I go again, it will be to drive, for sure. And it can't be the Miata, sans roll cage, so I might take you up on that.

Right now I gotta earn back some "Honey-Do" points with the wife, who took care of both kids while getting over a flu!

    that's gonna cost ya, juice!

    -juice
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Figure that you have all winter to build up points! Maybe we can do a FATT, then you won't have so many Honey-do's to do!

We'll be at summit alot next season so it should be easy.

its gotta give you an advantage when a $$ owner of a porsche sees you on the inside line of a turn figuring that you will put him in the sand with that unpainted old thing. i wouldnt dare try to shut the door on you in a curve with that.
  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
    swampy: LOL!

paisan: Your website (AZP) is starting to come together, getting better by the day.

You realize that when you install the 2.2T you'll either need an FMIC (sleeper look!) or a hood with an intake. With your current front clip you'll be looking for a hood from an older WRX.

Speaking of 2.2Ts, I saw a decent looking first-gen Legacy turbo for sale in Washington, NJ yesterday. Might be worth a look for someone interested.

    Ed
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Good idea, that would be the ticket.

Still, Friday the nanny leaves at noon, so I'd still have to earn half of the points...

    Clearance Sale! 50% off! LOL

    -juice

PS Mike has an RS hood, if anyone finds the vents and scoops let him know!
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
I have a hood, lights, grille, and front bumper from a '98, '00 RS but the hood has no scoop or vents, so if anyone comes across it and would like to donate/sell it :)

We are actually not putting in a 2.2T, we are going to turbo the current motor. Amazingly the motor is still tight at 155K miles doesn't burn a stitch of oil. This past weekend it did double duty amounting to 6hrs of on-track use at or near WOT the whole time. She didn't burn any oil, overheat, or otherwise falter lap after lap after lap.

I just watched Patti's friend come from behind (3rd place) and WIN JEOPARDY!!! I thought it was her, but had to go back and verify it by Patti's post. She won almost enough to buy an Impreza!

a fun day. It's been perhaps 25 years since I've last been to Summit Point. Frankin' L had to be one of the loudest cars on the track. You could hear it a mile away; no way could it ever sneak up on someone. :)

Next time I go, I'm wearing a hat, as I managed to get a nice sunburn up top. :( Who would have thought of temps near 80 in November. The weather was just superb. :) And as juice mentioned, there were Subies galore!

Actually, the funny thing is that a lot of much newer, lower mileage cars did have to pit for a legit problem, i.e. not a seat adjustment! LOL

I got a little sunburn too, Bob. In November?

my mother called tonight from texas .. seems my father has been in pain since friday night but would not go to the emergency room .. finally this morning she called an ambulance and he was taken to the hospital with a ruptured appendix and peritonitis .. they spent most of the day trying to stabilize him for surgery .. operated about 3 PM and he is in ICU ... i'm torn as to whether i take off now to get there ... or wait to see what's going on .. i'm 22 hours away by car ... wouldn't be much faster to catch a plane by the time we could make arrangements, etc ... at this point i'm waiting til tomorrow to figure out the next move ... we could use some of those prayers, too ..
he's only 67 but he and my mother have ongoing chronic health issues ...

    Steve,

Looks like you've discovered Fry's. Did you know that they originally started out as a grocery store -- that's why they still have a food isle among the vast electronics. Actually, the food isle works great -- lots of junk food for those programmers.

    See you on Wed!
