The long awaited, much anticipated, and over rated return of Hutch.

That was an interesting link not to mention a cool looking car. Wonder if we'll ever see anything like that here.

Harmony and I had a great weekend in the mountains this weekend, camping and hiking in Shenandoah and then spending a night in a 5-star hotel with a fancy dinner (talk about a packing nightmare to handle all those extremes). The weather was perfect, the foliage was perfect, and we had a wonderful time. Then, Monday morning as we are checking out, I notice that someone clobbered the driver's door on my new XT with their bumper!! Yeesh! Not a good way to end a nice weekend. All said, it's minor -- about a 6" horizontal crease in the sheetmetal, one pucker in the sheetmetal, and paint scraped off the lower cladding and door trim. It looks worse than it is. I am hoping I can get away with paintless dent repair and touchup, since no paint was scraped off the sheetmetal. I know it would probably be a $700-1000 repair / door repaint if I went to a traditional body shop. Hotel security took some photos, and hinted that their insurance might cover the repair, so we'll see how it works out. And here I thought I had this choice "end" parallel parking spot; I have no clue how someone managed to whale the side of the car!

very sorry to hear, Craig. maybe they hit it backing out from a standard stall across from your OB XT?

    Good luck Craig. :-(

    Craig,

Sorry to hear about your first mishap. That first one's gotta hurt.

Well, if it's of any consolation, my GT is getting it's share of rock chips from my daily highway commute. I already have a big ding in my side mirror on the driver's side. It catches my eye every time I get in the car. Grrrr... But what can you do.

    Ken
  • c_hunterc_hunter Member Posts: 4,487
If only the damage was on the passenger side, eh? I think all of my cars have gotten dinged/damaged on the driver side where I notice it every day. Maybe I ought to start driving in reverse...

    Craig
  • tsytsy Member Posts: 1,551
Sorry about the ding, Craig. I got my first one a few weeks ago, a nice line where a door hit my driver's side back door. Oh well, can't stay new forever.

Makes you wonder why more companies don't do the Saturn thing. I have some friends with Saturns- 6-7 years old, no dings!

    Craig,

LOL. Sometimes I dread washing and detailing my car because I'm bound to find a new ding or chip.

Sorry to hear that,it is bad enough when you get a hit like that but then the S/head takes off.

Ken you can get that 3M clear for the mirrors and Hood.

      Cheers Pat.

Congrats to juice, Bob, Patti, and edmunds.com for getting mentioned in the "Talking Subaru - Online Style" article of Drive, Fall 2004. juice and Bob have nice bios and photos to boot! The only inaccuracy I noted was that the article described them as "Subaru Loyalists" instead of the more accurate "Subaru Fanatics". :)

    Pat,

I looked into getting the 3M film, but backed away when I found that prices were in the $500-600 range with installation. To me, that seemed awfully high for partial coverage that's not 100% invisible (it can be seen up close).

    That's my car!

I'd actually rather replace the Miata with that, vs. replace the Forester with a Tribeca. We'll see.

Craig: move to Japan? (RHD) :o)

Thanks, Mike. How's the GT? You replace that Civic yet?

Mike, I replied in Our Software (not much of a reply since I don't know the fix). Meanwhile try dumping your cache of cookies and temp files, assuming Firefox does this (I only run Mozilla now and then so I'm not up on its tools).

To keep harping, but is Edmunds even trying to fix the auto login anymore.

It's not a big deal for most but when you are typing and memory challenged like I am:-)

It is a nice feature to have.

Hi MikeS. long time no hear.

      Cheers Pat.

I think we just have to convince him to get over his fixation with owning a reliable vehicle, then Juice will realize that an Elisse is what he really wants. If he keeps the RHD fetish, he could get the UK version which weighs under 1500lbs !!
Love the look of that B9.

First Hutch, now Mike is back! The "Crew" stars must be in alignment! :)

Haven't seen the "print" version yet, but here's the "online" version:

The profile was too long and messed up the login somehow. Guess I need to walk down to my mailbox and get my Drive.

My ski buddy is pressing pretty hard to buy my Outback - if my wife would quit her job and ski for the winter, we could manage with one car again, the funds would pay for the time off, and then I could look for a used Miata (Juice being a bad influence) when she went back to work.

I'm actually considering selling the WRX. (anybody interested?)I've enjoyed owning it but as my only car it just isn't practical. I've been thinking about another Forester. Sure do miss that car.

hey Hutch, what's not practical about your WRX?

    it's not a Miata ferpetessake. :)

I believe SOA is offering some sort of trade-in deal for owners of WRXs. You might want to check into that.

Anybody remember what the specifics were?

    MARIANO IS DA MAN!!!

    ... and then some!!!

Yankees all the way!!! Whooo-hoooooooo!!! :)
  • miksmimiksmi Member Posts: 1,246
Thanks, I came back to the board to report on a GT test drive. Man, that thing is fast! Compared to a 2.0l WRX, I'm surprised at the smoothness of the GT's turbo. I convinced my wife to test drive a GT. She's leaning toward an A4 or 330xi because she prefers their styling and evidently high repair bills. She also wants a sedan because "No household needs two wagons." How impractical she is!

I'm still driving the 93 Civic. If we do get a new car, my wife will get the new ride and I'll inherit the 00 Legacy GT wagon.

No Hutch, I never finished the home theater project. I ended up using the machine a file server and the project went on the back burner.

BTW the last time I dropped off the face of the earth, I had switched from Internet Exploder to Opera. edmunds didn't work with with Opera, so I bagged it. I'm not using Firefox, which edmunds seems to like.

As my wife is from Boston, I root for the Sox. It's going to be a tough series (for the Sox).

With their 2 clutch pitchers performing the way they did, it will be very tough.

Don't get me wrong, this year's BoSox are better than last yr. but BoSox's pitching have crippled. And while we struggled during the season, our pitching performance have improved greatly in the post-season.

You can tell, this Sox team looks gloomy and concerned! But hey, don't spit up in the air when it can fall back on your face... (spanish phrase translated).

Hey, Mike, good to see your typeface.

I've used Opera for Edmunds and have not had any problems. Still using an older version of Firefox and should upgrade, but just haven't gotten around to it.
  • thecatthecat Member Posts: 535
I have a periodic need to haul things. The Forester was pretty good at accommodating that need and when something was too large I pulled a small trailer. With only one vehicle now, I find the need for utility more of a requirement than going fast. Admittedly going fast puts a bigger smile on your face but it doesn't get a piece of plywood home.
    - Hutch
  • tsytsy Member Posts: 1,551
I just want the Yankees to lose and the curse to be broken! Looks like it'll be tough this year though.

Mike, sounds like your wife gets the new car and gives hers to you. Shouldn't you take turns getting new cars? ;-)

    tom
  • c_hunterc_hunter Member Posts: 4,487
Sounds like a Legacy GT wagon is the natural upgrade path for you. Pretty much all the fun of the WRX with more room. Forester XT (and Outback XT) are also fast and fun, but aren't in the same handling league as the WRX and Leg GT.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Hutch wants another Forester, he rarely if ever uses all the power his WRX offers, and remember his WRX is a sedan.

He misses the practicality of the Forester!

Don't try to talk him out of it, the Forester is the Best Vehicle on the Planet! :o)

Got plywood? No problem, I've strapped 5 sheets at one time to my roof rack.

Got fencing? Also no problem. Even 6'x8' sections fit on my roof rack, 2 at a time.

Double dresser, extra-depth? No problem. Rack.

Oversize clothes washer? No problem. Fit even with the box with the hatch closed.

The Legacy is, to quote Lucien's earlier remarks about a Passat, "too nice" for jobs like that.

    Forester is perfect.

    Mike,

You're still driving that 93 Civic when I met you a few years ago with Loosh and Bob at Petit Louis for lunch?

Bob already had his wife's relatively new Forester. Loosh got a FXT. I just got a Legacy GT wagon.

    You're up next!

    Ken
  • volkovvolkov Member Posts: 1,306
Well, his mistake was buying a WRX sedan instead of the WRX wagon which is actually the greatest car on the planet. I have a roof rack too you know. Very little your Forester can do that Rex can't....except look boring and boxy. BWAHAHA!!!

  • volkovvolkov Member Posts: 1,306
FWIW I $#%@ing detest the Yankees with a passion. I didn't feel that way 20 years ago, but IMHO they are the absolute epitome of everything wrong about professional sports today. No soul whatsoever, it's just about buying championships. Very un-Subaru.
