Most "premium" manufacturers have 4 yr / 50K bumper to bumper. I don't think they have an extended powertrain warranty though.

So is 3/36 B2B + 5/60 powertrain worse than 4/50 B2B? Perception wise probably, reality wise who knows.

Thanks Patti- but I think Dave is right. My MT doesn't have an electronic center diff- do I still need to do the fuse stuff? I didn't. Hope I didn't cook my diff!

Right, only 4EAT with active AWD has the fuse.

    Patti,

Congrats on your new role! So is part of your responsibilities defining what goes into an extended warranty as well as trying to increase owners switching to them?

After shopping for a replacement for "the bull" ('97 Taurus :\ ), we arrived at the Subaru conclusion and added an '01 Forester S model to a nice garaged, climatically controlled environment. Well it doesn't rain in there and it has a heater/AC vent... :p

Anyway, I'm excited about owning another SUV except I don't think this one will be as thirsty as my Expedition. The wife will be driving it and I know she's happy about it too.

I'll prolly spend most of my time in the repair/maintenance forum since it has 53k on it LOL.

Heh, I guess that gives me 7000 miles to ask Patti a question :p

Maybe they'd go for Premium Insurance Marketing Professional. Wait, that's P.I.M.P.!

Then you'd have to be selling chromed Dubs and Bling. So maybe not.

    ;-)

Warranty Gold went under and that was well publicized. The scary thing is they were AA rated for credit right before they sunk, so there was no warning at all.

I think what you should remind shoppers of is that 3rd parties don't sell warranties at all, they sell insurance. And I'm sure the disclaimers limit what gets covered. They can also mandate the use of aftermarket parts vs. OE, to keep costs down.

Aftermarket warranties arn't worth the paper they are printed on. They use all sorts of excuses to get out of paying warranty claims, that's providing they havn't gone bust by the time you get around to making a claim.

      Cheers Pat.

    Missed ya on the promotion...

Many Congrats!!! And I agree... well deserved indeed :-)

I'm not gonna spill the beans just yet, but one of our active Crew members will be published as a contributing editor as early as tomorrow.

OK, now, guess who? Check the title for one clue.

Bonus if you can guess where he/she will be published.

I bet the Crew member's name is Steve. That brings my odds up to at least 50/50, right?

Well, the title says "Networking Pays Off for ateixeira".

So, I guess juice and Washington Post.

Welcome Brent! I'm 100% positive that your wife will find the Forester a vast improvement over the 97 Taurus :-) And yes, she'll probably be getting close to double the mpg that you're Expedition gets ;-)

Don't be too quick to assume that you'll be spending much time in the repair/maintenance forum, unlike some other makes <cough> Ford <cough>, Subaru's in general are pretty reliable and the Forester is no exception.

Frank. noticed you have been AWOL for a bit, welcome back, guess you are having way too much fun in that XT.

      Cheers Pat.

Pat & Bob- Well of course the FXT is as fun as always but it's work and the associated traveling that's been keeping me occupied ;-(

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Steve/Dave/Mike would be a good guess, but nope.

Dave - very clever, but that wasn't intentional, so no, it's not me. Nor is it the Post.

But who else went on a trip and did a lot of networking with our Subaru peers?

C'mon, now that should be easy, any more guesses?

Ding Ding, we have a winner!

Bob was the one doing most of the networking in Detroit and Vegas. He met Jacoby from Subdriven, and one thing led to another.

So now Bob has a little soap box to stand on and express an opinion once in a while. His article will be a letter in the Opinions/Editorials page.

Now, guess who will be submitting the next Editorial to them? That would be me (so DaveM was right after all). :-)

We'll see where this leads, but the goal is to obtain press credentials and gain access to the Subaru press fleet. Can you imagine how cool that would be?

It's not a paid gig, but it's a foot in the door. The Subaru community is small and tight knit and they understood that we both want to remain on Edmunds as Crew Chiefs and that was a pre-requisite to agreeing to contribute articles in the first place.

So basically my hope is this will only expand our role.

The tough part? Keeping my mouth shut! If they ever let us preview drive a vehicle it'll be very hard for me to honor the press embargos! :o)

Now go tell them what we REALLY want :-)
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Actually juice, I think your article will appear before mine, as I was talking with Chuck last night. As you stated, your writeup is more time-sensitive than mine, and they seem to agree. They're just waiting on your picture.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I want a B9X STi for under $30 grand that makes 400hp on regular fuel while getting 30mpg.

But I'm a reasonable person. So I'll give up one of those criteria. ;-)

Did I mention the folding hard top? LOL

Juice and I met Jocoby (Coby) who is in charge of Subdriven at Detroit, and again at Las Vegas, and who I've stayed in touch with via e-mail & IMs this past year. Coby asked me recently if we would be interested in contributing to their site too.

It sounds like fun, and as juice said, it sounds like we will have access to press vehicles to do write-ups on. Should be fun. :)

Our role here at Edmunds is not changing, and have no fear, we are NOT abandoning this group in any way shape or form. We've both built up too many valued relationships here, which we both treasure highly.

During my Subdriven commute last night, I thought maybe the articles would be for subdriven since I know Bob has mentioned them often.

    DaveM

P.S. Congratulations guys! Hopefully the B9X has extra headroom for those BIG heads. :-D
  • bigelmbigelm Member Posts: 995
Better not abandon us cause I'll just have to get my posse and handel my bidniz, nahmeen! lol.

    I'm happy for you guys!!!

Now tell them what we need in that SUV: H6 @ 275HP/275TQ and a Twin Turbo option H6 @ 400HP/425TQ with 6 speed on both trims.

Oh.. and to hurry up the premium class (bigger) sedan, with all the bells & whistles ;-)

You mean the B11TStt PE (boxer 11 touring sedan twin turbo - paisan edition)?

Hopefully the B9X has extra headroom for those BIG heads.

I'm still trying to get that helmet off from Las Vegas, but it's too tight. :)

My loyalty is definitely with the Crew, have no doubt. We've been proceeding with caution for this very reason.

I think the Subaru community is small enough to understand that we can accomplish more on a cooperative basis, helping each other out.

Actually I just want an STi press car for a week, them I'm all set. :o)

Hopefully my article will be posted tonight, once I get them my photo, and you guys can read my "wish list" for the B9X.

Interestingly that's exactly what people have mentioned so far, so I think my editorial represents the feelings of most of the Crew.

I hope Bob knows I didn't mean to step on his toes. I was almost sure his article would be posted first.

I might end up contributing a little on the Mazda side, also, since I have a Miata and previous Mazda experience.

MazdaSpeed 6 vs. Legacy GT article, anyone? :-)

I agree, that's the competition/review everyone (especially nabisco) wants to see. Some people are already jumping ship...
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Well, you all remember my well-documented issues with the 626, plus I'm FWD-averse. So that'll be, um, interesting, given most of the lineup is FWD.

The 6 had rust issues early on, now they're rated "Worse than Average" by CR. I like the 3, though, and the MPV. Miata and RX8 are RWD so those will be fun.

So we'll see. Should be fun.

What I'd really love to do is test the B9SC against the Miata replacement!

A little backed up reading all the posts over the last few days, so...

Congrats to Patti for a well deserved promotion. I'm sure you will help in a big way in that area.

Congrats to Bob and Juice on the press job. I'm sure it will be very tough for you guys to have to test out a car for a few days:-).
