Everybody have a great long weekend, hope you get to spend it with the people closest to you.

Thankfully no road trip for me, we're staying put for once in our lives.

Quick question for our northern neighbors... since you don't do Thanksgiving, when do your retailers kick-off the holiday shopping season?

Canadians celebrate their Thanksgiving in October (earlier harvest up north I guess). I don't think the holiday sales start until Boxing Day :-)

To all the crew. We have our daughter with us for a quick visit, so we have a lot to be thankful for, not sure if I will make chat or not this week.

      Cheers Pat.

They usually skip the chat on Turkey Day, mod_bob has to eat too! I don't think there will be one this week.

    Is that correct, Karen?

Was a very unusual case in our newspaper a couple of weeks ago. A guy had been cited a number of times because his tint was too dark on the front windows.

The judge threw the case out saying the law regarding tint was to vague to interpret, it's back to the cops to decide whether to ticket dark tint or not, but given this ruling it will not stand up in court.

This ruling only applies to the province of Ontario not all of Canada.

      Cheers Pat.
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
that's pretty odd, in kansas they use a gun to read amount of light going through the tint. the guns replaced a white business card with various grey lines on it-- which was used in '94 to give my friend a ticket for too-dark tint.

he did have limo tint on the car, though. it was obviously more than our state law allows. 35% on the front doors, 20% rear doors and rear glass unless a truck, any % on front windshield brow no more than 4" tall.

    * get a Forester, cops don't blink because they assume it's a truck, and standards are less strict.

    * open the window if you ever get pulled over, keep your hands clearly visible and be polite.

Never had a problem. The Forester is stealthy to begin with so your odds are better.

At least they have REAL SUBARU enthusiasts on there now, cause before that it was just VW guys trying to make a buck (may still be, but at least we know they have real subie guys now)

Lots of traveling this month. Spent a few days in Peabody, Mass at a supplier, then a week in Worcester, Mass at an electronic failure analysis conference and trade show. Gave a paper on advanced FIB topics which was well received.

I am writing this from my S-in-L's house in Plano, TX, having flown the family down here yesterday.

Hope everyone has a safe and great turkey day.

Congrats to Patti on her promotion and new job title. I saw an article in USA Today when in Boston about AIG's (?) disasterous plunge into the auto warr insurance business, and how badly they treated customers in an attempt to control huge losses. A real lession about why consumers should stay with OEM.

Also congrats to Juice and Bob on the Subdriven relationship.

    Re: tonight's chat

Ya know, I'm not certain about that. I didn't hear one way or another if it's happening. Haven't "seen" mod-Bob around to ask him. Maybe Steve knows?

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

or a chat free gobble if you want!

We're taking the evening off... which is good for me since we're having a post dinner poker game!

Well, time to get back to what I was doing. We got a 15# fresh turkey this year. The rain is making it tougher to catch him than I expected! :)

    Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
My sister the chef is cooking this year, so I indeed am thankful for that, but I'll probably still get stuck with the dishes :)

    Cheers!

Please be safe - both on the roads and with properly stored leftovers!

With challenging family members, have a little wine, not whine!

I am very thankful - and you all are a part of what I'm thankful for.

My daughter celebrates her birthday tomorrow too. I actually got un-stuffed at 20 minutes past midnight 16 years ago.

Have a wonderful holiday. Oh - and is it stuffing or dressing? >:>~

I'm alone right now because I put my sis on a plane Tuesday to Phoenix so she could spend a week with our mom, her dad and our other sister. I declined, because I'm too busy at work to take that much vacation and because I have ALL my immediate family right here in Wichita except my mom and one aunt.

I'll have dinner tomorrow afternoon and then again Saturday afternoon with about 15-20 people present each time.

Fortunately, they know I'm only good for a fruit tray, some wine, that kind of thing. Cooking > Me.

Happy Thanksgiving all, and enjoy the trips-- or lack thereof. :)

Well, combine the fact that I've been up since 0005 hours (2-alarm fire) with the wine I expect to consume at dinner, and Grace is doin' all the driving today! Only 18 miles to my sis's place, so no big deal. But man, is that turkey-induced nap ever gonna feel good!

Cheers! (and thankful for sleep yet to come) :)

Heh, your right Frank, the wife does really like the Forester. It doesn't get as good a gas mileage as the Taurus was getting but it's ok for a 4 wheel drive. We drove it to Mom's house for T'Giving which is 175 miles away and got almost 24mpg. I would like to see that a little higher but maybe it's winter gas...who knows.

We had one problem on the "maiden voyage" which was the molding on the right side of the front windshield decided to come undone. I have ordered new clips for it. Hopefully that will be just a $10 fix. Other than that, it was easy to drive and hardly noticed the 30mph cross wind. She likes the heated seats...something about keeping a girls bottom warm makes for a pleasing experience ;)

As far as the maintenance goes..I was referring to the 60k service which has a big talley sheet. I do my own service for the most part and like to know what's been done to the car. The dealer only get's it if it's a warranty issue.

I apologize if I don't respond very quickly. I didn't realize how active these forums were. The whiskey doesn't help me really....either ;)

    Happy T Day :)

The dealer ought to cover even that $10 worth of parts.

Slow weekend for the Crew, everyone awake yet? :o)

Wh00t!!! Tell the kiddo happy B'Day!! What an...um, interesting age ;) Did she get a Subie for her b'day? lol.

I was hoping they would raise the driving age in Kansas in the next 7 years before my daughter turns 16 :-D

Oh and I made hamloaf. No stuffing or dressing at our house :p

How many pounds did you put on from Thanksgiving, and it's aftermath?

Me, 4lbs, I'm sorry to say.

    Bob
  • bat1161bat1161 Member Posts: 1,784
I'm happy to say only 3 lbs. Not bad after losing 18.

    Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend.

We didn't host, so no leftovers to binge on.

I'll have to weight myself but I think I might have escaped unscathed.

I've been slowly gaining weight with a purpose, but still didn't eat too much during either of my big dinners.

I did at least 12 miles on the trainer Thursday, Saturday and Sunday along with some weight lifting Thursday and Friday.

still a too-skinny 168lb, but I am not on weight gainer shakes. ...that might have to change though.

although I think I lost about 3 pounds after I had a pretty bad gall bladder attack on Friday evening ... sort of lost my appetite for the next few days ....

but I am not on weight gainer shakes...that might have to change though.

As much as I love milk shakes, I cannot stomach any of the "protein", "low carb", "weight gain", etc. shakes.

Also, some people because of body type, have great difficulty putting on muscle. And it's easier when you're young. So go for it!

Ouch! (spoken as one who lost my 'surgery virginity' two years ago after a gall bladder attack tried to kill me...). Hope you are feeling better.

    Steve

So what are the symptoms of a gall bladder attack?

    Craig
  • fibber2fibber2 Member Posts: 3,786
    Craig,

The gall bladder is basically a reservoir and pump for bile, used in the digestion of fats. Symptoms of an 'attack' seem to vary widely depending on whether it is just the bladder that is irritable, or whether stones are also interfering with the 'common bile duct', a drain used by the liver and other organs.

Some get acute pain in the right-center lower breastbone region after a fat rich meal. I developed a high fever (104-105' F) & vomiting from backing up toxins (developing Jaundice), but only had relatively vague pain until day 5, which made it difficult to diagnose at first.

It was probably the single worst week of my life. I had the wildest dreams - call them hallucinations. Hospital emergency room told me I had the flu, and just had to ride it out!! Damn near killed me.

Well, as much southern cooking as my mother-in-law stuffs into me (butter, mayo, and pork are her base ingredients), I will have to keep on the lookout for this one -- sounds like I'd easily be able to trigger (and correlate) the condition if it was going to happen to me!

Had to have emergency surgery some years ago to have her gallbladder removed, then she had to undergo the same surgery a little later. This was in the time when they cut a gash about six inchs long in your side to remove it, not like now they take it through the belly button.

sp;Apparently a gallstone was missed and it blocked the bile duct hence the second surgery.

Incidently since she had this surgery if she eats a ripe banana she will get all the same pain as a gallbladder attack, it takes about 2 days of agony before the pain subsides again. Needless to say she is very careful with bananas.

      Cheers Pat.
