    Craig,

Thanks for the input. For some reason i thought cassette might be better, but I was not sure. As for the radio, I have the Subaru radio along with the Subaru single CD player. I will take a look at the other site, but I must admit to not exactly being the engineering type which is a shame considering I went to an engineering geared HS.

Cassette adapters sound better than FM modulators to my ears too. One common problem with cassette adapters is getting ground loop noise. My Forester had it when using a cassette adapter and I would need to eject the adapter and reinsert to make the ground loop noise go away. Radio Shack also sells ground loop isolators that have been reported to fix the problem too.

OK, I had the radio and single CD player in my 00 too. If you can intercept the connector that goes inbetween the CD player and the radio, there's your line in. If I remember right, it's a simple DIN type of plug.

For something quick and easy, just try a name-brand cassette adapter. Sony makes a nice one for about $9.

I got a Belkin Tunecast at an Apple store cheap--open item. I've tried it out in my 05 Legacy and the sound is horrid. I've tried several frequencies and there is static and drifting. Oh well, guess I will have to trade the Subaru in on a BMW for my iPod. PS Keep buying iPods, helps the stock price of the stock I own....

I got out and locally it is not too bad. I had to dig out the driveway but once out the roads were plowed but I did have to go through some deep stuff on some less traveled streets. Legacy did fine everywhere. We are supposed to go to my mother-in-law's house in Mt. Carmel Ill tomorrow. I 64 is still closed in one direction and I am not sure about US 41 but as long as it is somewhat plowed I should be OK. I don't expect to be the one in the ditch because I have driven in snow enough to know what speed to drive--slow! I am taking blankets, shovels, water, phone, GPS, CB and whatever else I can think of.

I haven't used a tape adapter since the early 90s and it was crap. Apparently they've improved? but how many cars have a tape deck, anyway? my Evo didn't come with one.

I've had good results with a FM modulator for a friend's cd changer and another one with a Dell DJ (iPod-like device).

the modulator that came with my XM Roadie is pretty good/

Well we had A 24 hour ice storm here what mess, cars stuck all over the place, nothing has been plowed, we were out today and it is a total disaster. Makes me appreciate the service we get from the city crew in Ottawa in conditions like this.

      Cheers Pat.

    twrx,

Did you try this mod for the Tunecast:

    http://www.jiggybyte.com/tunecast.htm

It might help improve the sound quality. Also, for some reason, I find the lower frequencies 88.1, 88.3 work better on my Tunecast than the other end of the spectrum.

among other things, two automotive books: One call "Concept Cars," and the other called "Impreza;" which, not only talks about he history of the Impreza, but also of Subaru too. Tidbit: Did you know the Isuzu BigHorn (Trooper) was also sold as a Subaru in Japan?

I must have been exceptional this year. 8-)

    Santa-DW gave me some LLBean/Subaru wear: A

royal blue unshrinkable longsleeve t-shirt, a cap, and an ultra-light jacket.

    Brian,

Guess you won't be using that ultra-light jacket anytime soon...

Sorry, I couldn't resist. Merry Christmas!

    Merry Christmas, all...

Working Christmas Eve was a challenge - but it turned out OK:

     - Toyota Tundra rolled over multiple times off the freeway, landed on the driver's side, and left the occupants almost completely unharmed - the RF passenger said she was just 'hanging around' thanks to her seat belt.

     - The homeowner whose dining room candle fell over onto some artificial greens - smoked up the house a bit, but no real damage.

Not just a Merry, but a lucky CHristmas for them!

Cheers! (but not too much if you're driving!)

Hope everyone had everything they wanted under the tree (yes, we throw in a tree for good measure, right next to the Menorah!!!).

Among other things was a Ryobi 18v multi-set (drill, circ saw, recipricating saw, light & vac). It was high time I ditched my low voltage stuff and moved up. Tim Allen would be proud.

I got some sun tan lotion and a beach chair. :o)

Life is good, about 90 today, sunny every day. We got rain one morning, but it cleared up before we got out of bed.

The sun rises at about 5am (!), and sets early too, about 5pm. It is *very* hard to adjust to that schedule because the kids get up with the sun!

Road trip time! We'll be going to the next big town north on the coast, called Joao Pessoa, about 90 minutes each way. I'm going to try to ride in the Citroen Xsara Picasso to get an impression on that strange looking car.

Actually, the real reason is that if I'm IN it, I don't have to look AT it.

    LOL

a nice music box with the interchangeable disks (and without any annoying animated characters!)

    a beautiful brown leather briefcase

    CD of Rolling Stones Hits

CD of Green Day "American Idiot" (yes I wanted them both)

an 'organizer' storage bin thingie for the back of my car (which I NEED)

a DVD-RW drive for my computer (so now I have a techie project before I go back to school! - I'll let you know how I do .. lol)

a pair of knee high lacing moccasins (which I like but were more of a 'joke')

a pair of nice black dress boots (which *I* actually bought like any good wife would!)

we also got the SNL Trivial Pursuit game from one of my daughters .. and if we can ever get close to the DVD player we just might play it!

yes, Santa was very good ....

(now if the stepsons could just be good ....)

I've been asked by the local college (where I TAKE classes) to teach a class in the spring .. what I find so funny, is that it's a class I'm scheduled to take next fall ....

I've been asked based on recommendations of my university supervisor for my practicum this semester and another teacher friend who now teaches classes at the university ...

of course, there is still some question as to whether there will be enough students to offer the course .. I'll know more on 1/5 ...

(should be interesting since I'm signed up for two courses already ....more so if some that I teach at the afternoon class on Thursday are also in my night class (as a student) just after that)

Hope you all had a great holiday!

our kids bought us one of those I-robot vacuum cleaners. Our dog is scared to death of it.

Hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable holiday!

After celebrating Hanukah last week, we did Christmas this past weekend. Life is good when you get gifts twice:-). Nothing special gift wise- a new sound card for the PC and lots of gift cards.

Juice- love hearing about your "misfortune" of having 90 degree days; especially after waking up to a coating of snow this morning. Enjoy as much as you can!

Hey bob we bought one of those used on eBay just to try it out. It's 1st gen. It doesn't like tassles on rugs, but it totally rocks in the kitchen, the hallways, the bedroom and the nursery, where the floors are mostly hardwood. I imagine the newer models are smarter about rugs.

I knew from the magnitude of the earthquake and the areas hit that the first numbers of 11,000 dead were probably small ... but is anyone else just overwhelmed by the number 40,000 dead and still climbing????
  • bat1161bat1161 Member Posts: 1,784
The toll is truly staggering. It's also a shame as I was reading they were talking about putting in an early warning system, such as the Pacific has. The problem, as I understand it, was that no one thought the Indian Ocean area could ever have something like this happen to them so they were dragging their feet to set it up.

All we cna do now is offer prayers, and financial help through the American REd Cross International.

  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
I don't think a warning system would have done much good, as these things are so unpredictable, and so rare. The last time they had such an earthquake in that region was back in the 1800s.

    Bob
  • bat1161bat1161 Member Posts: 1,784
At least if there had been one, there would hopefully have been fewer fatalaties. It's because the last time was so long ago that no one knew what to do, or thought to put in such a system.

Then again, we on the east coast here would not be ready for such an earthquake either.

That is pretty staggering. I hope the US does something to help out.

Sounds like the people closest to the epicenter wouldn't have had much warning even with a 'warning system'
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
While you're checking in here at Edmunds also check your office e-mail! There's a holiday surprise for you there. :)

I left a message on your cell phone. Hopefully you can access it from Brazil. You can also call me if you want.

    Bob
  • kenskens Member Posts: 5,869
The number of fatalities are staggering indeed. A tsunami warning system might have helped, but without a proper evacuation system and infrastructure, the panic that would come from a false alarm would undoubtedly have casualties of it's own.

    ... or Patti news?
  • p0926p0926 Member Posts: 4,423
with the folks. I probably mentioned it before but that place is over-run with Subarus! All makes and models from an old GL wagon to a brand new OBXT. In one day I saw three Bajas (so that's where they went!) which is three more than I've seen around Atlanta, a city 20 times the size ;-)

Maybe I should get a roomba, you think my cat - I mean, my dog, would be scared of it?

Thanks for the heads up, Bob, I actually left my SecurID password generator at home, so I'll have to check tomorrow. I have an idea what it might be, though.

Gimme a hint, did you get the same thing?

I'm back next Wed, 1/5, in time for Detroit, if that's it. Brrr. Must be about 120 degrees colder than it is here!

Been out of internet access for the week- still trying to catch up!

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas!

Brenda, hope your stepson is recovering quickly!

Juice/Bob- maybe they'll let you design the B9X and see if you can do a better job? (Can't make it worse!) ;-)

It's amazing the devastation by one earthquake- don't mess with mother nature! 21st century and there's still so much we cannot predict. . .

I'm not sure what else I missed- one week is a long time here!
