Most places do, some don't have much, as far as fitness standards. I have to pass an annual physical, which includes a treadmill. I get to the gym a couple times a week, ski, bike, etc, if for no other reasons than ability to do my job & self-preservation. I can't imagine trying to do what I do being that far out of shape.
A lot of EMS providers are private companies rather than governmental agencies, so whatever standard they have, if any, is up to them.
Cheers!
Paul
Both of them looked to be heart attacks looking for a place to happen.
Cheers Pat.
You want ugly? Check out the Cirtoen Xsara Picasso, I got to drive one today and later on I'll write a review. It's not quite ready for prime time but there are some very handy features I think Subaru could copy, like handy airplane-style trays that fold out of the back of the front seats.

Mazda Japan has accessories for the MPV, including folding airplane style trays.

About 6 1/2 years ago, I had a lump on the back of my neck at the hairline and just behind the tendon that runs down the side/back of the neck. As it grew quite large, I finally went to the doctor to be checked. This was shortly after I separated from my ex. The dr. diagnosed it as a cyst and recommended that I go to a surgeon for removal because of the size and the location. I actually left the office and went to a surgeon's office nearby - one who had done surgery on one of my daughters - but they were closed. Shortly thereafter it drained and shrank to a very small 'bump' under the skin.
Fast forward to now.... off and on I'd think I really should have this thing removed .... however .. you know how it goes ...
Early last week, I realized this thing was feeling 'tender' and 'sore' and that it was growing ... by Wednesday, I was calling to get an appt with the dr. Went in yesterday and by now it's the size of a large walnut .. it hurts to even touch the thing and it's getting red .... (It's actually not as large as it was the first time around but feels much harder and I don't remember it HURTING!)
I'm on antibiotics .. this thing is driving me nuts ... It's on the side I normally sleep on and it's almost impossible to get comfortable. If I'm on the right side, I'm bumping it ... if I'm on the left side, it's 'pulling' it ....
I go in tomorrow morning and they are to remove it in the dr's office .... I told the newlywed husband that he has to come with me to hold my hand ... usually I'm really good with getting medical things done, but because of where this is and the way it hurts NOW, I already warned the dr. that I will be a real BABY about this one!
sooooo don't put anything off that you need to have done !!!
see you guys when I'm minus the 'garbage' ...

Can someone update that graphic? I'd like to suggest a Legacy GT to be a part of the logo this time. :-)

I see the new B9X pics circulating and I'm not getting a warm fuzzy yet. I really don't like the front treatment, not so much for the center grille but for the angles between the headlights and the "wing" grilles. I'm not sure I can put it into words but it looks like the angle of the edges of one should have carried into the other.
I agree with juice's (at least IIRC it was juice) assessment that the B9X resembles a Mazda3 hatch in profile, especially since I see one of those parked in my office parking lot this morning. I've also followed the thread on topic at nabisco, where I've voiced the opinion that the rear looks so much like the rear of the Alfa 147 (ditto the Subaru R1e concept) that it leads me to draw the conclusion that Zapatinas is just drawing (no pun intended) from past work at Alfa. Thinking along those lines leads me to another notion: The B9X, Murano, RX330 and FX35/45 all look like very large hatchback cars, rather than trucks. Are people who are attracted to the looks of those really just looking for big hot hatches? Maybe America's interest in hatchbacks never went away, it just wanted them in a bigger package. Just a thought.
I did notice a lot more Subarus on the road in SC, which bears out the sales figures linked to elsewhere in Town Hall. Ironically, most of those I saw were Foresters, with Outbacks and standard Legacies not far behind plus a solitary WRX sedan and a clean first-gen 2.5RS sedan. Whether the increase is a result of the increased influx of Northerners to SC or, as I'd like to believe, recognition that the small AWD cars are well-suited to use on unpaved rural roads (and a more practical choice than the traditional 4WD pickup or SUV) I cannot say.
Ed
I think there's a lot of truth to that Ed. I've always liked hatchbacks. Unfortunately they have always been associated with econo-boxes here in North America. I think that's now changing mainly due to recent VW Golfs, which are really pretty nice cars, and don't come across as being cheap. Also BMW and MB are thinking of bringing over new and improved small hatchbacks, and the Mazda3 is also very nice
I'm actually hoping the next-generation Impreza is offered as a Golf-like hatchback in both 2 and 4 doors.
Bob
Bob: Based on that statement, and on Subaru's GM connection, how about the idea of offering the new Opel/Vauxhall Astra GTC rebadged as an Impreza hatchback (with a Subaru-sourced drivetrain of course)? Do you suppose hardcore Subaristi and others would accept it?
Ed
Ed, welcome back!!
I showed the first B9 drawing to an English friend that will be in the market for a crossover this summer. He liked the drawing, but hates the spy/magazine pics. Without having any knowledge of Zapatinas, his comments were: "That's ugly. Looks like an Alfa."
I told him about Zapatinas and he said that his Alfa heritage was coming back to "haunt" him. OTOH, my VW buddy likes it.
-Dennis
I doubt it. I know I wouldn't. I want it to be a ground-up Subie piece of engineering.
Bob
When I wrote about seeing more Subies in SC, I should've elaborated that I saw more that actually had SC license plates on them - not just cars from other states that happened to be in SC. I wonder if we'd see even more Foresters there if they were sold as rebadged Chevrolets as they are in India. Forester SS, anyone?
Ed
The more things change, the more they stay the same. It looks like "controversy," long a Subie DNA characteristic, has not been lost.
Bob
I always thought it was the male of the species who was the procrastinator where Doctors are concerned:-)
Cheers Pat.

Are people who are attracted to the looks of those really just looking for big hot hatches?
Um, yes. :-)
I don't like the new Astra all that much, though. Opels looked better one generation ago.

thanks for all the warm wishes, guys .. it's appreciated!
We drove over this morning in the ice and snow (in the Outback -- what else?) ... Took my 'handholder' into the office with me ... dr sticks me with the needle to 'numb' the thing which of course hurts like heck ... and he couldn't get it all numb ... so here I am with this huge, inflamed, sore, and slightly infected thing and the dr is cutting, mashing, pushing, .. well you get the picture .. it only took about 20 minutes but it wasn't pleasant (aren't I making you want to go get all YOUR stuff taken care of?) ...
right now it's packed full of gauze and I go back on Friday to get that out and let him take another look at it ... if I'm lucky he's done with the squeezing and mashing ... it not .. you might hear me from wherever you are....
at least he gave me some hefty strength Vicodin ...
I'll be fine .. thanks again ...
Here's to a smooth (and painless) recovery.
DaveM
Just remember not to drive on the Vicodin (DUI!) and drink plenty of fluids and eat lots of fiber. The vicodin will, um, stop you up. ;-)
Hope it heals quickly! Vit. C and eat well!

Bob & Juice - way to go!
Opals: Spent a few hours in a '04 Vectra this past summer on a trip into Belguim. Nice car. But not a Subi...

I had cystic acne as a kid, even needed Accutane to treat it (the stuff works but boy does it ever dry your skin up).
I also had a cyst on my neck, and had that removed while in college. Then I got another one last year but it was treated with antibiotics, and the doc told me it would eventually "rupture".
And did it ever. You remember the scene from Animal House with Jon Belushi?
