Yep, Graham, I got the girl. :-)

The bike was stolen, but like Colin said in the Photo thread, better the bike than the girl!

What about the NFC game? I know that none of the prognosticators are giving Atlanta a chance but if they play again like they did against St. Louis then it should be a good game.

The last I heard he was supposed to move out Wednesday. Since there was some tech issues yesterday to deal with, Mr. Brown's departure may have been delayed.

    <minor rant mode on>

I'm becoming more and more convinced that no one ever sells their used Subarus. They keep them till they die (the cars, I mean), or give them to their kids, maybe make garden planters out of them. But they don't sell them.

I live in western PA, an area which has a rather good number of Subarus on the ground. I'm trying to find a used one with an asking price of 10-12K, automatic. Maybe a 2001 Legacy sedan, or a OBS, or Forester. It's like pulling teeth!! The dealer in town has none, but will hunt. The other three dealers in a 75 mile radius have a combined total of one car. I'm trying to replace my wifes old Neon with a Subie, as she has become addicted to my car, an 04 OBS.

Is this problem the same all over, or am I just unlucky?

yes, used Subarus are hard to find. Whatever people say about Subarus not holding their value -- totally not true in my experience. In the past I was able to sell easily 2 used Subarus at above KBB Private Party Good Condition price - which is supposed to be quite good at today's used car market.

Come to think of it, I really don't want to sell my Forester 2001 (116K miles now)... My daughter (17) is slated to get it when she gets her driving license.

So, yes, we're not selling our Subarus! We drive them forever :-)

    G'day

Well, you could come down under. I am selling my five and a half year old Outback Limited with 142,000km (about 89,000 miles) and will realize about 40% of New Price on it. It will go with lots of sadness.

Probable replacement will be a Toyota Kluger (Highlander to you) as we have hit the soccer mum stage of too many kids all of the time. Subaru Australia have no plans for the Tribeca which is a pity.

    Cheers

So Kate, then I can just blame you? Hey, thanks for making it so easy for me. <g>

A trip to Australia sounds like fun, but shipping it back to the States might be just a tad cost prohibative. Nice thought though.

Try the parking lot trick - find an older couple driving a Subaru at the local big box store. Ask them if they are thinking of selling. They may be or they may say they haven't thought about it. Give them your number, and hopefully they'll take the hint and go look at new Subbies, since they now have a buyer for their old one.

This worked for Idahodoug, and in my case, I emailed an old friend last year who had no plans to part with her Outback until I told her I'd buy her old one if she was selling. She took the hint and got a new one, and sold me her old one. It's a '97 that now has 49k miles on it, and 10k of those miles are mine. :-)

My extended family has owned a total of 6.

    We still own 5.

Technically, the 6th my cousin sold to her husband's nephew. No blood relation to me, but yes it's still in the family.

So of the 6 we've owned we have never put one for sale on the used car market.

    Sorry? I guess. ;-)

We used this (approaching someone with the 'are you thinking of trading up' line) to buy a used car (not a Subaru) for my husband ... the folks weren't thinking of selling until we asked about it .. took a few months but he ended up with the car at a good deal ...

I agree. I think the Falcons have a good shot at it. They have a lot of weapons in Michael Vick and Warrick Dunn.

Right now they're the most local team for me too. Since Peyton and the choklts bit the dust, most around here (Tennessee) are pulling for atlanta

Umm, there is a big blue horseshoe decal on the back of my '92 Toyota pickup. Maybe next year. Well at least I was at the Colts/Chargers game on 12/26.

I think it is a 2000, with $9999 in the window. Hopewell Junction (Dutchess Cty) NY. Not terribly far from you. Want me to look at it?

I rented a Towncar in Maui, Hawaii back in 1991 and was surprised that it actually had some steering response. I drove it to / from Haleakela Crater.

I traded it in for a Continental for the drive to Hana. The Townhouse was too big for that road. :-D

They have the makings of a great team--they just need to get some more experience on defense.

The Patriots controlled the ball most of the time and Peyton did what he could in the time he was given but his receivers dropped too many balls.

Great thought, but Hopewell Junction is nowhere near Erie, PA. I'm in NW PA, not NE PA. Thanks anyway.

And I see that, instead of blaming Kate, I can blame Juice. 5 Subarus in the family...none to spare? <mutter, mutter, mutter> :)

I got a call from one of my salesmen late last night. They just got in a 2002 Legacy wagon. Will get more details this morning. Keeping fingers crossed.

ever try autotrader.com? I put in an Erie zip code and a year range from 2000 to 2002 and produced 49 results within a 75 mile radius. Dealers may not always have the best connections.

    Eric

P.S. I think you can even get to it from the edmunds home page
  • damish003damish003 Member Posts: 303
I did try your suggestion, Eric, but there isn't much in my price range, at least not from dealers. Most everything is over 15k. Good thought, though.

    -Dan-
  • p0926p0926 Member Posts: 4,423
    at least not from dealers

Dan- I think that was Eric's point. Dealers only handle a small portion of the used car business so limiting your search to dealerships will greatly restrict the available inverntory. Also, you'll invariably get a better deal buying from a private party. Of course when buying a used car you should always pay to have it inspected.

So the most potent offence in football scores 3 points and you blame the defence for the Colts not making it? I actually thought that the Colts defence played very well in the last couple games. Yes, balls were dropped, but that offence is run on Peyton hitting his recievers in the hands, chest-high and in stride. Many of his passes were low or behind - not like him at all. He played like an average quarterback. You don't win Superbowls by playing below your ability or giving up. Despite the furor over it last year, Van der Jagt was right. Peyton has to step it up personally come the playoffs for the Colts to ever succeed. Just watching him in that game, he looked like he'd already lost when sitting on the sidelines in the 3rd quarter, when they could still have easily come back.

Burke will haunt us forever more. ;-)

Great chat last night. It had been a while since I'd been in Brazil and then Detroit. Nice to make one, finally.

I agree in that Peyton's performance was somewhat lackluster, but New England had the ball for more than 15 minutes of game time than Indy.

It's hard to make things happen when your defense doesn't force turnovers and stopping 3rd down conversions thereby giving you less time to do what you need to.

Well, my local sales guy found a 2000 Legacy L wagon with 55k miles. Is the Phase2 2.5 engine the one to watch out for as far as headgaskets are concerned? Can't remember. I'm thinking of offering about 10k if it checks out. Anyone think that sounds about right?
  • ladywclassladywclass Member Posts: 1,713
I understood the 'townhouse' reference ...

btw nj .. in the song .. it was SHE'S a BRICK house! .... (so are you talking about me????)

I think that falls withing the range of cars covered for 8/100 extended warranty if you use the coolant additive.

Call 800-SUBARU3 and see if they can tell you, and also ask if that's been done already.

Don't they also put some sort of sticker indicating the additive is in there? If so that's an easy way to check.

That warranty ought to ease any concerns.

  • damish003damish003 Member Posts: 303
If the previous owner wasn't using the additive, if I get the car and start using it, would the warranty apply? If the car looks good enough I'll take your advise and call Subaru about it. Thanks!

    Good news

Went back to the dermatologist for a check up on my infected cyst, and it's coming along real well.

    Bad news.

While there, the Dr. checked me out and found two skin cancer thingys.

    Good news

    They appear to be B9.

Just a few quick words - - EAGLES!!!! And, Bob - glad to hear they caught it and are taking care of you!

Kate - you continue to be in my prayers. I've been reading about your tough time.

SNOW, SNOW, SNOW!! Waiting for the storm to hit full force before I decide to go get the grocery order. They will be empty except for fellow Subaru drivers that want the excuse to get out and play!

Oh - stay tuned for some interesting news from Subaru (Feb./March) related to pre-owned Subaru's. Something I'm actually getting to work on that you all will like!! ;-)

So, since you didn't see me say hello, I guess I shouldn't say goodbye?

Would SOMEBODY send SOME of that snow MY way????

We're melting off here faster than the wicked witch after she got wet! Ski areas are mud & slush!

Any snow dances while facing the direction of the Pacific Northwest will be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers!

I see on the B9 site that it is coming to Baltimore. I was offered, via email, a special invitation to see the car.

    In Richmond.

So I'm wondering if we could assemble a B/W crew meet in Baltimore and convince SoA to let us have a look?

8-10" predicted here. Awww, my first snow with LSD.
