If you haven't become friends with one of the CARS characters on CarSpace, do so quick! I would really like to see one of the Crew win a trip to the premiere at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC. :D

    Ron,

Quick question/correction. As far as I know it is a Class II hitch that goes on the new OB's. At least, that is what was put on my H6 by U-Haul.

The Class II is rated for 300 lbs tongue weight/3000 lb capacity.

Is the site down? I could not get in just now. Edit: works now.

I've already made a couple of characters my "friend", but do your odds improve if you do that for all the cars?

You don't really need any peanut butter bait - when no one's looking, Alvin's probably sneaking up and licking your fender flairs already. :)

It looks like everyone with at least one character friend goes into the "eligible" pool so my guess is no. But how can you not become friends with Doc and Fillmore?

Statefarm.com is giving away Mustangs with their Cars promotion.

Subaru Crew chat is tonight; all the links (left and top) are supposed to be working.

    That was... umm... weird :surprise:

Maybe I HAVE been hanging around Fillmore too much!

I had a birthday recently, and a few days later thought to check my DL thinking it may have expired on my bday .. well it did .. LAST YEAR ...

Thursday afternoon I went by the "busy" branch near my work, and there were signs in the door that they were not doing DL or registrations as the 'system was down' ... went in to ask if it was just that branch or all of them ... "all of them"

Saturday morning .. they have recently begun some hours open on Sat. mornings, so drove to the branch south of us about 25 miles as it is usually not so busy .. after about a 10 min wait, I got to the desk and the paperwork was filled out, and I had the pic made, signed the license and was on my way ... and it's not up for renewal until 2013!

this afternoon (still Saturday), I was asked for ID to go with my credit card ... clerk says .. did you have a recent name change? ...

    ARGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After the marriage about a year and a half ago, I had the DL changed right away ... FOR SOME REASON THE NEW LICENSE HAS MY OLD NAME ON IT ... I can't for the life of me figure out WHY it would go back to the OLD name .. so now I have to get back down there and straighten out this mess!!! ... can anyone feel how frustrated I am right now?????

there is a house on main street north of town that always has a bunch of the plastic pink flamingos in the yard ...

this morning they were all lying on the ground with a huge sign that said ... BIRD FLU HITS SOUTH BEND
  • jfljfl Member Posts: 1,399
    LOL!!!

Unfortunately, my vandalism story is not so cute. This past Tuesday, I agreed to drive the beat-up '90 Honda to work. Leaving the house, I notice the driver's door is open. Hmmm...why did the wife leave the door open??? Getting closer, I see the driver's window is smashed. Nothing was taken but there were a lot of glass crumbles to vacuum. The only thing we can figure is that they didn't want to steal a car with a manual tranny.

The glass will get replaced this week.

So glad the Subie is in the garage.

So Brenda, which are you more frustrated with? Them putting your old name on the DL or you signing it and not catching their error? :shades:

    Putting it politely, that stinks!

    Good luck!

    Bird Flu, hee hee.

Besides the outbreak of the virus itself, there's also been an outbreak of really bad TV shows about the virus. :D

Glass - I had a rock thrown through my rear glass window on my Miata last year. Sorry to hear it. I made a small claim but in hindsight it was hardly worth it.

    Prepare for a long post.
Had an appointment to take the old '91 Legacy (the "blue-baru") in for a 240k-mile service, a new cam seal and timing belt replacement. The dealership's about 30 miles away. I brought my 2-year-old son.
At the dealership, the service advisor starting filling out the paperwork for my loaner car and noticed my driver's license had expired a week ago. Doh! No loaner car with an expired license, so they directed me to the nearest Dept. of Motor Vehicles, which turned out to be closed on Mondays. After a couple phone calls from that DMV's parking lot, I found another DMV office that was open on Mondays... all the way back at home.
Drove back home, took a number at the DMV. Since it's the only office around open Mondays, it was quite busy (plus by the time I got there it was nearing lunchtime). Waited about an hour, until my little boy had a poopy diaper. Rushed out to the car for a quick diaper change, went back inside, and our number had already been called - we missed it by one!
I wasn't about to wait another hour+, so I called the dealership, apologized and rescheduled. Determined to do something fruitful with my day, I went to the large hardware store near my home to pick up a replacement lightbulb for my son's alligator-shaped flashlight. After going to the back in electrical, and then up front with flashlights, found they didn't have that type of bulb. Back in the car we went, to Radio Shack at the other end of town. After much searching, they produced the correct bulb! Hurrah! One small victory.
Since the day was so unproductive, I decided to treat myself to one of my favorite to-go lunches. It's a family-run Philippine barbecue in the parking lot of an asian grocery store. They've got the shiniest aluminum trailer you've ever seen - spotless! Doesn't sound like much, but the food is spectacular. Pulled into the parking lot and... the trailer wasn't there. Thought I was gonna cry.
Frustrated that 3-4 hours of driving and so many stops had yielded just one tiny 2.5V lightbulb, I decided to just head home. I was tired and my son was letting me know he was quite finished with riding around in his carseat all afternoon. I was pretty bummed out, but I sure perked up seeing how much fun my son had with his silly little alligator flashlight, once we replaced the bulb together. His giggles were infectious as he shined his light on our cat, and we had fun playing 'til naptime. Sometimes it's the little things that make everything else okay.

You sign on an 'electronic' signature pad - like at some of the check-outs at stores, so that it's printed on your drivers license. So I didn't see the name when I signed, and when they gave it to me, I just put it in my purse and left ...

Jeff, We have all had a day like that along the line. But glad to hear that in the end the little one helped to make it all OK!

    240k-mile service - That's amazing! Rob M.
  • jeffmcjeffmc Member Posts: 1,742
:shades: Runs great. Unfortunately, we'll probably replace it in somewhere around three years, so I likely won't see the 300k-mile mark broken. It's no longer our primary vehicle, so it doesn't rack up the miles like it used to. That car's seen a lot of road trips. Hope we can pass it along to someone worthy of pushing it past 300k. It's been a very trusty companion... it'll feel odd when the day comes that it's not parked in our driveway anymore.
Never had a nickname other than the kinda impersonal "blue-baru", but it does have a rubber Rocky the Flying Squirrel (Bullwinkle J. Moose's buddy) hanging from the rearview mirror. If the fan's on high and on the vent setting, it even looks like he's flying around. Rocky's light blue flying helmet and gray body match the car's exterior and interior, respectively, so we were tempted to name the car Rocky, but it just didn't fit. Hmm... in retrospect, I guess that would've made our '04 Outback Bullwinkle, which does seem to kinda fit in a strange way.

Well, sort of. It's more like he was gloating.

I took the day off today to co-op at my son's school, and then did a tune-up on Sandy in the PM. Spark plugs, new wires, and a new ignition coil that GUESS WHO feasted on for a few weeks.

Well, I'm wrapping up the job, put the old wires in a garbage bag, and I look over to see this (actual photo taken today in my yard):

Up here in the boonies, that picture looks a LOT like an open shot! ;)

But you forgot to use red-eye reduction!
Did you consider leaving the old wires out in your yard? Maybe Alvin would keep snacking on them and leave your new ones alone... :shades:

We're getting close to the arrival of baby #2! My wife started taking leave this week as she's started to dilate. The doctor thinks the baby will be here within a week!

Oh, and it's going to be a girl!

    Ken
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
That was quick, #2 already? Pretty soon you'll have a 3rd and pass me! :D

That's great, keep us posted? If you can't get to the boards but have e-mail access, lemme know and I can share it here.

Oh, and we need to start a baby pool. OK, let's see, girl, due any day now.

I'm gonna say it's bull's eye, right on Memorial Day, she'll be born on May 29 in the AM.

    7 lbs 5 oz.

Ladies and Gentlemen, place your bets. Winner of each category (closest in weight and time) gets bragging rights and 2 years of good luck.

Observation - it's much easier to change the plugs on a Forester from the bottom. I manged to do it without removing the intake or the windshield washer fluid reservoir, like last time.

I won't call it easy, but with 2 plug sockets (different lengths), a single 2" extension, and a regular ratchet, I managed to do it myself.

Let this break the myth that you need to drop a boxer engine to change the plugs.

Before I continue with my story, although late, I have to give my condolences to Pat and family. Sorry I'm chiming in so late on this but I won't feel right unless I share. I don't want to 'relive' your pain so I'll leave it at that.

I know it's been awhile and as much as I've tried to spend time here, I don't have to right as much compared to nabisco. Anyway, my reason... I had surgery on my left index finger from a kitchen accident I had. It was about a month ago and half ago but now is when I'm able to write something since my therapy. I was cooking brunch on a Saturday when the knife I was using slipped (my hands were wet, BIG MISTAKE). The knife went through the bottom part of my index which cut through the nerves, which called for surgery. I thought I would lose my finger since it turned from red to purple in seconds; I thought I cut my vain cause blood was gushing out.

Anyway, being in a cast and having my hand and partial arm inmobile for over a month was restricting me pretty much with everything as you can imagine. I'm getting my feeling in my finger back but the nerves are growing at 1mm/day. The sensation is up half way but I still have a ways to go. Doctor says it can take up to 6 months to get the feeling back and train the brain to send signals to the nerve and feel sensation and register it all over again.

Well, miss connecting with you guys.. so hopefully you'll accept me again :-p ;-)

    Hi everyone,

My wife and I had a chuckle reading through the predictions!

Just so you know, my wife is not a very big person. She's 5' exactly and normally weighs like 95 lbs. While we appreciate the wishes for a nice BIG healthy baby, our first daughter came in around 5 lbs 15 oz (and healthy) -- which for my wife's size is juuuust right. :-)

Just in case you want to revise your weight estimates. ;-)

    Ken
  • hammerheadhammerhead Member Posts: 907
    Okay - If we're allowed - I'll revise & go 6lb even.
    I'll stick with the date.

    Cheers!

i was thinking of guessing in the mid-6 pound range before your post.

my wife was 5'5", 115 lbs. when my daughters were born @ 9 lbs 3 ozs and 9 lbs 13 ozs respectively. :surprise: perhaps it should be
