Then traveled in Norway where I was lucky with weather and got to enjoy beautiful fjords. Spotted quite a few Foresters on mountain roads.
When I was gone, management dumped a big project on my group, and I'm looking at spending 3-4 weeks on a business trip to North Carolina (RTP area) -- thinking maybe I'll be able to make it to OBX on one of the weekends?

Don't sweat it, we're back on The Fence already, hoping to get an early look at 09 Foresters. I'm really pleased with the under-the-skin changes to the new Impreza. A longer wheelbase and a more compact rear suspension are exactly what the next Forester needs. Add VDC and SAC and we're all over it. Either a Limited/Premium or even an LL Bean model this time.
And yes, we still have the 02 Legacy, and that car, while unheralded compared to Sandy (our Forester), never seems to complain at all.

Maybe in the US, we Subie owners are just eccentrics who don't care if others perceive us as being rich or not - the other eccentrics can buy Saabs :P. Or perhaps we're just educated consumers.
What did you think of Budapest? Did you have a nice time? I am gong there for 2 weeks in September with my wife and SIL so any "do not miss" items? What made you choose that destination? My SIL was born there and wife was last there in 1980.
Did you do any driving while there? If so, how were the roads?

In the past, the lake Balaton (1.5-2h drive from Budapest) was a premier summer vacation destination for many tourists in Eastern Europe. Now, as I gather, Hungarians especially young ones prefer to travel to Croatia's sea resorts. However, if you have time, Balaton is probably worth visiting, at least for its past glory.
I did not get to drive there, but the road to/from airport seemed ok. In the city, many locals complain about horrible traffic and crazy drivers, but I did not find it all that horrible, at least nothing like Rome or Mexico City.
It was interesting to compare Budapest to 1989 when I last visited it - still under Communism at that time.
Honestly, apart from abundance of modern european cars on the roads, lots of ads and billboards, and high prices -- I have not noticed much difference between Budapest'07 and Budapest'89. Goulash was just as good, Tokaj wine (you absolutely MUST try it) was just as sweet and live Gypsy music was just as pleasant.
Now, Tokaj wine is something special. Tokaj is a whole wine region, but the famous kind is called Tokaj Aszu and has numbers 3, 4, 5 or 6 associated with it. The best one is 6. It's a very sweet dessert wine with a distinct taste. Also makes a good gift.

Pulled 28mpg at 80mph on the highway for the trip down from Lake George! Not bad considering my speed and the AC was on.
Very happy with the car, looking forward to swapping out the tires and rims for some summer tires and some good pads.

20% tint would be the best choice, given that it's a wagon.
The 30% tint on my wagon isn't cutting it as far as keeping the heat out.

For a long while I had no problem keeping current with my tracked Subaru topics (albeit there were only a few) then I gradually found it harder and harder as the list of topics continued to grow. Then about a year ago when the number of topics exploded, I dropped any pretense of trying to keep up.
I suppose that change is inevitable and the new format is here to stay since it makes Edmunds more "Google friendly" and hence increases revenues but I miss the good old days when this topic frequently had a half dozen conversations running concurrently in a friendly free-for-all exchange of information.
This Meet the Members continuation topic was created 30 May 2000 and hit 10k posts in just over 2 years and the next 10k posts took less than 2 years. Now it’s been well over two years and we’re still a ways from reaching the 30k mark and with the current fracturing of topics, it could be a long while before we get there
While I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that the total number of Edmunds posts has significantly increased, they’re now spread over an ever increasing number of topics (32 just for the Forester!). Yes I can see how this change facilitates finding an answer to a specific question for the new user but at the same time, it is also (in my opinion) destroying the sense of community that made Edmunds such a great place for Subaru owners and others

but i agree ... i learned so many things about my car just reading a few topics in the crew ... i can't keep up with where everything is these days ...
I am still here but a rush of work and family issues means that I post less often. I have to agree though that the shift to allowing new threads to be started willy-nilly means that you can't keep up with individual threads. I tend not to respond to these and only focus on the Subaru Crew and Meet the Members threads

Not only is it fragmented by model, but now even model years for each of those models. So the 06-07 Tribeca is seperate from the 08 Tribeca thread.
Here's why I don't like that - someone in the 08 Tribeca thread will ask about the parking lamps, a question that any Subaru guru could answer, yet many 08 Tribeca owners are first-time Subaru buyers and don't know the answer.
For us old-timers, let's just agree to focus primarily on this thread here, Meet the Members, when it comes to ourselves, our cars, and our families, and then the Subaru Crew Cafe for the way off-topic stuff.
Also, we should try to "recruit" new owners, especially the most helpful ones, to participate in the Subaru Crew threads. Often I think they stay only in the make and model year for the car they own, and that's a shame.

My son turns 5 on Wednesday, can you believe it, already? That's my 2nd child. When I bought my Forester we didn't have any kids!
Juice - no birthdays, but next Tuesday my wife and I will be married 19 years!
Only thing that makes me feel old is I got together with some of my old high school buddies (Brooklyn Tech) and saw one fellow for the first time in 28 years! Even worse than that was hearing he has 4 grandkids! Man, time flies. To keep it Subaru related I mentioned some of the back road drives we have had (although not in a long time) and the 48hrs annual drive.

Along with trying to sell the house and working on the divorce settlement, Michael got himself into a bit of trouble in camp in PA. As a counselor, they are allowed to go off campus...a couple of weeks ago, he and his friend (both 17) wenmt to a Best Western along with a bunch of other counselors and rented rooms. Some of the older counselors brought beer and proceeded to make a nuisance of themselves by being loud and raucous, as well as offering beer to the younger counselors (e.g. Michael and buddy). Michael had some, his friend had more..to make a long story short, someone called the Matamoras and Milford police; they proceeded to give out 21 citations, including one to Michael for under-age drinking (BAC of 0.04). Now, he has this misdemeanor and has to pay a fine of $421, which he will pay with his guitar money. He had called us up the morning after hysterically crying...the police put the fear of G-d into him.
What a crappy summer! I too follow basically just MTM and the cafe. Too many other topics.
I can't wait until the kids are back in school and things settle down!
I agree with the numbers of topics- it's too much to keep up with. I'm like Serge, just follow this thread and the cafe. (Serge, get a good lawyer and get that misdemeanor off his record. Won't be good for his future for such a stupid thing. Sorry you've had such a miserable summer!)

I can empathize with the school stuff ... I finished my "last" certification in the spring along with the million other things I do ("last" as in the last one I finished, not as in the "last" one I'll probably ever receive lol) ... we've had the 2 grandsons here since the weekend of June 9 ... we will be moving their mom in with us by the end of next week ... I've also been doing the weekly reading tutoring sessions at the Masonic Learning Center and "interning" with the year-long training sessions for the new tutors (helping to train the new tutors as a part of my certification as a trainer of the Orton-Gillingham reading method which is certified by IMSLEC (international reading council) ...
Our summer is SHORT this year due to a switch to an "earlier" calendar ... our last official day to work was June 12, but the first day of work for the coming year is August 13 .. so don't tell me I had THREE months for summer!
It will be nice when we finish the school year a bit earlier next year!
This morning I already had a call from our special education office about my request for program assistants. These are nonprofessional positions that are "aides" who assist our children with more involved disabilities ... I had 8 full time and 2 half-time people last year to supervise .. I have requested 11 full time positions for next year .. they are in the process of interviewing and trying to hire for all the schools and they had some questions about some of my requests ... I really do try to only ask for the staff/supplies that we need, and as a general rule I get what I ask for since they know I don't "pad" the requests ...
Once school starts, I have no official college classes I'll have to take (for the first time in the last 7 years), but I will be TEACHING a class this fall for Indiana University - South Bend .. I'll be continuing the "internship" with the reading program .. and I'll be picking up an advanced language course in language structures that "can" carry university credit (but I don't need it, so why pay for that?) ... plus the usual full-time special education teaching and supervision of staff ... and having the 2 grandsons and daughter living here ...
the brightest part of the entire picture is that on July 13th my husband FINALLY is permanently on a day schedule ... he's been on a night work schedule for a LONG LONG time ... we are already appreciating the difference!
OK ... that's it from here ... more than anyone wanted to know !
