looks very sharp, and I'm glad you're enjoying the ride!

OK, now do I get to congratulate you on the new ride? ;)

Very nice Bob. I'm a bit jealous as I am one of the few who actually really like the new WRX hatch. That and the fact Subaru seems to have made them quite the little rocket ship.

    Enjoy!
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Thanks. Actually most Impreza buyers prefer the 5-door, as it is outselling the 4-door model, or at least doing much better than SOA had originally expected.

Whatever your political viewpoints, GO OUT AND VOTE!!!
If you don't vote, don't complain.

I voted by mail two weeks ago just so I could get a head start on complaining. :shades:

(I voted for the left-hander btw).
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
and how does it do in 6th?.......... oh...

    ;)

seriously though, the car sounds fantastic. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to get past the 18/25 EPA estimates when the time comes, though. Not for a daily driver, anyways.
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Well—if I had planned for this—I probably would have waited for a 6th gear to have been available—but that didn't happen... Watch, it will probably happen for the 2010 MY.

Hey Loosh, if you're concerned about the mileage—don't even think of test-driving a new WRX, as you'll be hopelessly won over! ;)

I'll be watching the gas mileage, as I did with my old one. My '06 model never got under 21 mpg, and I checked it every time I filled up. The new car has a mpg indicator hooked into the trip meters. I'm going to compare that with the old fashioned way and see what the results are. I expect about the same, maybe a tad less. We'll see...

Wow a post from Kate! Bob you should really feel special now ;)
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
trust me, I remember from the FXT. that go-pedal was like crack. I couldn't help myself...I don't think my mileage was ever OVER 21 mpg!
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
The trip computer in our Forester is a bit optimistic - by about 1mpg or so. Still, you get an idea of how you're doing.

The trip computer on my Sienna is extremely accurate. I stopped calculating manually - there simply was no need.

Break-in mileage is usually poor. It will get better, despite the fact that you're staying below 4000rpm.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Just an update - I have not weighed myself, and I don't think I've dropped many pounds, but...

I got a cholesterol test and it was 174, the lowest score I've ever had (past tests were 178-202).

So even if I don't win the prize, at least I know my diet has improved my cholesterol level. :shades:
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,584
    That's great!!

I'm down 12 pounds in the last 7 weeks.. Got my first-ever cholesterol test over the limit... so, obviously I should be able to do something about it with weight loss and/or diet..

Anyway... anyone need any size 38 pants? lol..

I peaked at 38 but I fit in some 34s the other day. So happily - No Thanks!

That's great you guys! Good work!

I'm off 8 pounds or so, but I'm planning on cheating next week :P

I have a fire hose inspection (colonoscopy) scheduled for next Wed and the prep will assure me of at least temporarily being down a few quarts.
  • ladywclassladywclass Member Posts: 1,713
I have only lost about 5 pounds .... it's been very 'up and down' in my life ... more than usual ...

I also had complete blood labs done recently ... the total cholesterol is down 22 points, but still should come down a bit more (still over 200)... HDL is up 3 points, LDL is down 26 points, and the ratio of HDL to LDL is 2.9 (very good)... all the other 'counts' etc. were very good ...

Ahh the joys of maturing ;) . That was my birthday present to myself this past Monday  - figured this way I could eat without feeling guilty.

One good side effect of loosing my job- I'm finally starting to loose weight. I'm down about 8 lbs from where I peaked a month ago. Still have another 15 to go for my goal of 175.

I've actually put on 5 or 6 pounds. Not good.

Me too Bob - I have to see my doc in a couple of weeks and I think I'm going to get yelled at.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
And you work out more than I do.

My activity is all kid-related. I will be coaching my son's b-ball team this winter. I still assistant-coach my daughter's team. That will give me a work out 2-3 times a week.
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Well, I fell off the healthy-eating wagon there for a while—and it shows on the scale.

I too have put on 1-2 lbs...too much stress, with My mom's passing, and all of sudden being on my own after 22 years...I was always a stress eater.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I've been so busy I haven't had time to eat. Rather than skip meals I have small snacks.

That's actually worked ok for me. I should bring a bunch of fruit to work, though.

    Also - lots more water.

It's not enough, though. I need to add regular scheduled exercise.
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
I clocked in at 170 on the nose this morning. I don't think I'll be losing any more than that....in fact I think that's up a little from my peak in early October. I'll be happy to hold there... Funny to think 4 years ago I was 200.
  • xwesxxwesx Member Posts: 17,726
Ugh. I do not even know where I am. I have to hunt down a scale one of these days, I suppose. I feel like a pumpkin, though.

I have avoided the scale, too. I guess I'll find out on d-day, just before T-giving.

I got a box full of freebies from SoA for the winner... :shades:

Hey, I thought Thanksgiving was the mid-point and the challenge ended at the end of the year. Is it over on Thanksgiving? If it is, we'd better establish an official weigh-in day, because corpulence may well increase from Thursday to Sunday.
On a side note, Bob and I had a secret meeting and now wish to be addressed as "The blessed of the round cupholders". A motion to henceforth refer to all of you new Forester owners as "Drinkers from the square cups" was narrowly defeated.

if we're declaring our preferences for monikers ... mine is ...

goddess of her own religion ....
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
Sure, put an idea into my head. :shades:

Maybe you'd like to be SWMBO Bren. She who must be obeyed...LOL That reminds me of a time I had hats made for a chat group I hosted on the Prodigy service and we had our monikers embroidered on the hats. Maybe we need to design a Crew hat as I still have an embroidery connection ;)

    Ah, bah. :shades:

When I think of Bren I think of Typing Queen (sung to Dancing Queen of course).
  • ladywclassladywclass Member Posts: 1,713
it is so good to see that you have the proper sense of obeisance to me .. LOL
  • volkovvolkov Member Posts: 1,306
Are you sure you don't want to examine your acronym before making that your official choice?

..but in pursuit of results I have resorted to diet-performance enhancing bugs.
When a single glass of water causes nausea, it's amazing what it can do for ones diet willpower. I'd love to keep off the 5lbs I lost , but the idea of remaining chronically dehydrated until the weigh-in isn't appealing. I'm back to eating food, and spending prolonged periods upright for the first time in 3 days, but probably leaving work a little early as I am still weak when standing more than 15 minutes.

Darn you. :D I was "only" up 2 pounds at my docs so I didn't get yelled at there at least.
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
Now that I'm past the fire hose :P I'll know where I stand in a day or so. Don't want to cheat and weigh myself after drinking the rocket fuel!

Been meaning to ask about Deb ... how is she ?
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
She's doing fine Bren; taking her meds and seeing her doctor regularly. So far so good... Thanks for asking.

warning .... it's one of *those* posts ...

we have a paraprofessional who put in her letter of resignation the first week of October, and stated her intention to remain 'on the job' until the end of October to allow time for a replacement to be hired ...

end of October came and we had no replacement .... told to sub the position until one could be found ... we've had misunderstandings in the past about who posts the sub position, so I asked the other teacher to call the main office to be sure if they were listing it online, or if we were supposed to do it .. office said they'd take care of it ...

first week of November dawns ... and no sub to be with the child ... turns out it was never even posted ..... had a sub the rest of the week, though .. and she was good with the child ... by the third day or so, we were talking about having them interview her if she would be interested... however, before we could give it time to see if we wanted to do that, we had an email that we'd have a new para starting on Nov 10 ...

Oops, the end of the week, we had another email saying that she wouldn't start until Nov 17, so continue to sub the position ... week of Nov 10, we had the same sub back on Mon, Tues, and Fri .. and one of our 'regular' subs on Wed, Thur ... then last Thur we get an email saying that the new para (who hadn't even started yet) had decided not to take the position after all and had submitted a letter of resignation (thought you had to start a job before you resigned it!) ...

at least they are set to interview the sub we've had for most of the last 2 weeks .... this is the pits .... partly because the kid is on my caseload, and I'm having to do 'extra' work as long as he has subs ....

    grrrrrrr

ok .. I'm done now .. and ready to hit the snow in my Outback this morning !

Wow, Brenda. The funny thing is that you can't make this stuff up, otherwise you would be Steven King. I have a sign on my office wall that says 'Stress Relief - pound your head here until unconscious". Rob M.

Now that I think about it, I think you're right. Does anyone recall the specific date?

Let's go with January 2, then. Any objections?

PS Wifey found a big round cup that fits within the square cup holder, now we put cups inside that cup! :D

I'm down 16 lbs... three more, and I'm under 200!! (I'm still invisible to young women, strangely enough.. :surprise:)

Now that's thinking! Hmmm, maybe to maintain our air of superiority, Bob and I will have to bring up our working temperature gauge. BWAAAH!!

I like Jan 2, because it might help maintain motivation during the indulgent season.
