The big ol' 30 as of now, and incidentally, I'm reflecting that age as I leave a Forester and go to a WRX... demographic determinism? Or maybe those ads for the WRX have subtle little age-sensitive implants....? perrito
I'm 35 as of yesterday. My wife is a few years older than me. We do the "guess your age" thing at fairs and they always guess my wife to be in her mid-20's. Oops, I hope I don't get into trouble for revealing her age. :-)
I think Patti's b-day is around the corner as well.
Wow Dave, incredible picture. I had read about but have never seen a photo.
I was glad to see I'm in with you young 'uns because I drive a Forester. I'm 44 years young, which must explain why I also love the looks of the Outback. Like the other guys from "my generation" (Who?), I will also admit to enjoying a "spirited drive" every now and again. Keeps the Geritol flowing through the veins! Yeeee-haaa!
Happy Birthday to you Dennis :-) I think Patti's was the day before you, or was it yesterday too... (short term memory - thought I heard it during the chat last night).
OK, here goes. 53, college instructor/psychologist. Former dog breeder (golden retrievers) and trainer, no current pets. Use a PC, not Mac. Don't ride a bike, but coached triathletes for 13 years. Camp & fly fish. People consider me strange. Don't know any other Subaru owners other than through this group.
when driving either of our Subies. 56 going on 76 when driving our Explorer.
Been a graphic designer since 1972. Have had my own business since 1990. Been married since 1969. Two kids, ages 22 and 18, a golden retriever and two cats, and I own a MAC.
Hi, I am 49 and so is my wife. She has a '98 2.5 RS 5 spd man and I have a 5 speed 2002 WRX wagon. No kids, 2 dogs, 3 macs and Apple stickers on the windows of the WRX. I suspect that Apple's slogan "think different" is theres only because Subaru did not get to it first! Yes and I still have a couple of Betamax VCRs in the house.
In the Outback, I forget I'm 42 - oh... 24? In the Outback Sport.... 18 :-)
Third generation in the Banking Industry doing Trade/Corporate Finance Services (since 1980). Single Never Married, three cats, and don't own the 3 macs and a pc. Enjoyed (past tense) Soccer and Rugby, knees wouldn't take it anymore. I'm down to one, Bowling; now my arm is starting to say something too.
my name's Ash ... age 27. Had a 2000 Outback in Canada before selling it (moved to UK).
I'm an elec. engineer now at the BBC in London. I'd rather be playing with high voltage turbines at hydro stations. 3 Macs, zero pcs, love minidisc, 2 cats, not married (and trying to stay that way!)Heavily into rollerblading, lightly into hill/mountain climbing.
I spent last week in southwest Ireland with my significant other. We had an Opel Astra to drive around.
We did the Beara peninsula, Kerry peninsula, and parts of Galway. The drives were absolutely amazing. The roads are narrow and twisty, because much of this area is mountainous.
I especially loved the mountain passes in the Ring of Kerry. Those roads are so narrow, that you'll find yourself pulled over to let cars coming the other way squeak by. Sometimes you can't even find a place to pull over, and you and the 3 cars behind you are doing reverse...
But minus the awesome driving, the scenery is something to behold. Never realized that Ireland was lush - I even spotted a few palm trees growing. Stunning scenery. Prices are really good, and the people are very friendly. I could imagine moving there! Easily the best vacation I've had in a long time.
Names Tom. Age 31. Married, cat, no kids (yet). 2 Subarus and I use a MAC at home. I do tech support for a PC based Software application in Austin Texas. Like outdoor stuff like hunting and camping (love to go shoot) but spend most of my time around the house trying to keep it clean and doing some home improvement or auto maintence. People that get to know me think I'm weird.
I'll try to tie some of these post together. I'm 39......OK, I'll be 40 on Halloween! Knees have been creaking for a while now. Currently, most of my excersize comes from hockey. Plan on buying a bike (mountain) for my 40th and start riding with my 10 year old who just got her first real bike (Trek). 3 kids, bunny and of course my better half who is Irish. Like Ken, I am in the semiconductor field - process engineer for equip manufacturer. My degrees are in EE, aviation and materials science. Next subie,....hmmm.....VDC.....with turbo H6, 6 speed to keep me 40!
My second trip, to Montauk Point, driving at 60-70mph yielded 27mpg which was better than 24.5mpg @ 70-90mph to Long Beach Island. Both trips, Long Beach Island and Montauk I used Sunoco 94oct from the same gas station (same pump).
I am a process engineer at a film coating manufacturing facility.
len - Definitely the Who! Let's smash a drum set for old times sake!
Let's see, we have 2 Foresters and I drive them both, so, if I calculate that right, I should expect to get acne again. I will _not_ go back to having sex in a VW bug though!
G'day Yes, Ash, I would definitely recommend Ireland. The countryside is wonderful, the beer great and the folk friendly. Incidentally, if you really want to have a better time, travel with a baby. The Irish are so fond of kids that you will be welcomed everywhere. We took our first born there when she was three months old and had a ball.
One particularly joyous memory was finding ourselves in a pub with a bikie gang. Somewhat nervously we decided to edge to the door, but the baby had to be admired by every member of the gang. It was like parting the Red Sea as we made our way to the door. The same pub had the most wonderful salmon, probably illegally poached, judging by the general flavour of the place. The Irish know how to eat well too!
Roads are tight, mountainous and would be ideal for a WRX or Forester. Speed is not a good idea. You still might come around the corner to find a donkey, particularly on the West Coast. If the chance ever presens itself, take a week or two there.
I e-mailed you privately about parts info a few days ago. Please disregard as I have found a sourcer. Please accept my apologies if my inquiry was at all untoward.
A few posts back you wrote that Garmin told you there is no Mac software for Garmin GPS units. Not true. There is MacGPS Pro 2.7 software for linking GARMIN GPS receivers to a Macintosh.
Tom - but the dang City Navigator CD can't run on Mac except via Virtual PC. Somehow Virtual PC -> Mac -> USB adapter ins't clicking. The Mac know its there, but the Virtual doesn't.
I wonder how that Bug compares to the back seats of a Pinto (which thankfully did not explode) and a '65 Corvair. Not that I'd have any personal knowledge about that, mind you!
I hear tell that in the VW it was not a "back seat" thing, but rather an "all the seats" thing. I have also heard that if you slide the seats all the way forward, they can be removed from the car very easily. I understand that the crank open sunroof was a useful option.
I'm 31, Kirsten is 30. I sell fine wine to restaurants in Baltimore, plus a couple key retailers. I play in an irish Ceili band called Kinsale on weekends. We both play in an acoustic cover band called Move Like Seamus. Kirsten and I also play in a rock band called Rail Down. We are currently recording our 1st album.
She also freelances as a cellist and teaches privately. We like to mountain bike, cook, eat, play, and RallyCross! Booya! Kirsten (a.k.a. "Q") drives a '99 Outback, I drive a '99 2.5GT

Glad to see that there's a fair amount of us 50+ folks here. Same with all the near-geezers (a.k.a. 40 somethings). All of a sudden I don't feel so lonely.

I heard the new one will have more (i.e. some) torque, too. Still no match for our boxer, even 5 years later.
Age? 32. But today was a long day, the toddler was having a fit left and right, so I feel approximately 102 years old, except more tired.

I guess the more PC thing to ask was "how old/young do you feel when you're driving your Subie"! ;-)
How about professions? I'm sure we're going to be quite diverse in that too.

Two of my good buddies also own Subes. Hobbies include moutain biking, hiking, snowboarding, photography and, of course, driving the Forester. ;-)
Was a Apple IIe user in high school and a Mac user in college, but the evil business world made me conform to PCs.

Hasn't reappeared yet.
Married my wife after she got an OB. Two kids, 17 and 12 (my steps). Love to surf and fish and anything Subaru (goes without saying).
