More bigger SUV will be reveal in hyundai brand. I have seen some spyshots of it. It looked much more bigger than a Santafe :) I have no idea how they will be called, but it was named Terracan before in Korea

Forgive me if this has been asked before, and, especially forgive me if I asked it before... ;)

Will there be an option package that has front power seats as an option, or at least a driver's power seat as an option, preferably with an adjustable (maybe even a power adjustable) lumbar support???

While I could deal with a manual seat adjustment, I could never bear with a seat that has no adjustable lumbar support, as seats w/o them just offer no support to my aging lower back...my Sable had no support, and after 45 min of driving, I felt 50 years older...

1st choice: power seat, power adj lumbar
2nd choice: power seat, manual adj lumbar
3rd choice: manual seat, manual adj lumbar
unacceptable: manual seat, no adj lumbar

Please tell me that my first choice is available:):):)
  • mike_belknapmike_belknap Member Posts: 378
It will be! :D We should be seeing choices 1 (10-way adjustable) and 3.
    Power Seat Controls
    Active Head Restraints (standard)
    Power-adjustable pedals
Integrated Memory System (this one may or may not be destined for the USDM)

Here's some great stuff, including a 360-degree exterior view and color palette (you may have to press "F11" on your keyboard to see the entire thing -- including the ever-important navigation links).
    ;)

Thanks for all the pics, but I am really disappointed that Hyundai is moving away from their dual-knob seat height adjuster and instead fitting lever-type seat height adjusters into their newest vehicles, first the Sonata, now the Santa Fe. (Although the new Accent at least has the dual-knob adjuster.) I love the ability to adjust the front and back of the seat cushion independently. The lever-type adjusters never seem to get the front of the cushion high enough for me. This means I would be forced to get a power seat on the Santa Fe. :(
  • mike_belknapmike_belknap Member Posts: 378
Well, I suppose the only comfort I can offer is that, while it'll be optional, you won't have to go for a top-of-the-line Limited trim to get it. I do agree that independent seat-cushion adjustments are definitely preferable.

24-30K? I dont think they can command that price yet. I'll look for the Pathfinder or Pilot or the new Highlander next year.
  • ctalkctalk Member Posts: 646
Does anyone else think the Santa Fe has the nicest dash of any Hyundai yet, even including the Azera? I think it puts the Sonata's dash to shame.

Agreed. I am extremely impressed with this interior design. If only the Sonata had this....

I'm absolutely blown away by this suv. I was impressed by the new Sonata but this new Santa Fe has got to be the best looking suv on the market, period. I can't wait for it to go on sale here in the U.S. I've never been a fan of SUV's but...if I may be so superficial...the looks on this vehicle has sold me completely. I'm in frickin' LOVE!!!
  • mike_belknapmike_belknap Member Posts: 378
Well, that's only my personal estimate based on equipment and the fact that the smaller, far less-sophisticated '06 Santa Fe runs for $22K-27K. While it could be priced about the same as the current model, I'm thinking that the vehicle's just too improved to go for much less than $24K.
Really, though, the Highlander when comparably equipped runs from $32K ($34K if DVD-ES is standard) to $39K, and the Pilot goes for $29K ($31K if DVD-ES is standard) to $37K, so even with the higher estimate, the Santa Fe's a much better deal.

"I'm absolutely blown away by this suv...this new Santa Fe has got to be the best looking suv on the market, period." rikid

My sentiments exactly rikid. As a matter of fact I'll go one step further based on reports I have heard about the testing of this vehicle the NVH (noise, vibration, handling)levels are on par with the Lexus RX330. This means we can look forward to a really sweet, quiet, smooth riding, vehicle.

The competition (Honda and Toyota) should be worried about this vehicle. Once we get some full test drive reviews we will get an even better idea about how really good the new Santa Fe is.

This looks like a home-run out-of-the-ball park hit for Hyundai!

Certainly better looking than the new Rav4....and has a proper liftback as opposed to wrong-way hinged door/ugly and damage-prone door-mounted spare. 3" wider / 3" longer than the Rav, so unfortunately will probably be heavier as well. Rav has a definite cargo advantage when all 7 seats are in use. A few things I'm curious about before I make it a slam-dunk.....
Price....must skew towards the Rav as opposed to the Highlander
Gas mileage....also must be competetive with the Rav.
Also curious about the AWD system Hyundai uses...what type of system, how robust?
Although I realize they're only for occasional use (suits us perfectly), I'll want to compare 3rd-row (as well as the other two) seat comfort between the 2 vehicles.
Can't wait to see them both in person and see some comparisons.

"Also curious about the AWD system Hyundai uses...what type of system, how robust?"

The Santa Fe will use a new edition of the Borg-Warner electronic ITM-I™ variable fulltime all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, with a dash-mounted driver-selectable 4WD-lock button for a continuous 50/50 front & rear power-split. Different from the systems in the current Santa Fe, it's basically the same as what you'd find in the Acura MDX, Honda Pilot, and Hyundai Tucson.

With all the excitement about the new '07 Santa Fe comes word that it may come equipped with an optional six spd auto box. Any word on whether this can be confirmed? or would this be a later add? The source of this is from autoblog. Also when I did a google on Hyundai six spd auto i found many references to the Portico concept that Hyundai displayed at several different auto shows which featured a six speed.

If true this would be even better news by far and again as I've repeated before will mean it's Japanese rivals maybe in for some real competition from their Asian neighbor.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Maybe you can help me with a question I've had for a long time, not just with the '07 Santa Fe: how do automakers count "ways" when determining that a driver's seat is "8-way" or "10-way"? Try as I might I can't figure out how the manual seat on the Santa Fe has 8 ways to adjust it. Unless they count "up" and "down" and "fore" and "aft" as separate "ways".
  • mike_belknapmike_belknap Member Posts: 378
Well, Hyundai has already confirmed that the "EN" will have a six-speed Shiftronic -- as for the Santa Fe, I personally doubt it at this point. There seems to be agreement among sources that the vehicle will bow with 2.7- and 3.3-liter V6 engines in the US, rather than the 3.8L. This, in all likelihood, means that we'll see a five-speed instead. I can't speak for later on down the line, but intially, a Santa Fe 6-speed seems unlikely with the information currently available to me.
In additon to the "EN," the '08 production version of the Portico will very likely have a six-speed as well, but I don't know if the vehicle will sport the hybrid V6 engine/electric motor from the concept.

I checked that link you gave and it is a great video of everything about the Santa Fe, except size measurements...

Do you have length, width, height???...I am comparing this to an Explorer in size, and I could not find any specs on that...

Altho, the remainder of the video was great...it is obvious that they are making this to be a great vehicle, I am just afraid it might be too small, especially with a previous poster comparing it to a Rav4...I thought this was to be a midsize SUV to compare with Explorer and Grand Cherokee/Commander while the Tucson took over the small size of the Santa Fe... please don't tell me I am wrong...
  • mike_belknapmike_belknap Member Posts: 378
Unless they count "up" and "down" and "fore" and "aft" as separate "ways".

That is correct. On the 10-way power-adjustable seat, the lumbar "in" and "out" adjustments are counted separately; on the basic seat, it's "8-way adjustable with a manually-adjustable lumbar support."
It's a little silly, I know, but that's how they all do it.
    Mike
  • mike_belknapmike_belknap Member Posts: 378
It's definitely a true midsize SUV now. The reason it has been compared to the RAV4 is that the Toyota has grown a full 14-inches in length for '06 (21% larger overall) and now offers a small 3rd-row of seats and a 3.5-liter 269-hp V6.

The exterior measurements for the Santa Fe are on that site too, but they haven't posted interior dimensions. Here's the former (converted from the metric system):

    Length (in.): 184.1
    Width (in.): 74.4
    Height, w/wo roof rack (in.): 70.7 / 67.9
    Track, front/rear (in.): 63.6/63.8
    Wheelbase (in.): 106.3
    Ground Clearance (in.): 7.9
    Tires: 235/65R17, 235/60R18
Curb Weight (KDM-spec, diesel): 3936-4200 lbs

So it's a slight touch larger overall than the Toyota Highlander and, though wider (especially the track width), it's not nearly as long as the Ford Explorer. In fact, again with the exception of width, the Ford is almost what's considered fullsize -- look for the '07 "EN" to be of similar length but meaningfully wider.

any estimates on gas mileage? we are looking to move from a car to a suv type auto soon and was looking at several makes. now that i have seen the 07 santa fe i believe we will wait till this summer and make a final decision after seeing one in person.
  • mike_belknapmike_belknap Member Posts: 378
I'd love to know that as well! :D
This is where it gets interesting for the whole 2.7L/3.3L arrangement: that is, based on mileage trends between the current and last-generation Sonata, Santa Fe, and Tucson, one would expect a Lambda 3.3L Santa Fe to get better highway mileage than a less-powerful Delta 2.7L Santa Fe! It wouldn't make any sense to place even a reworked 2.7 Delta V6 in the new model since, even improved, it would likely cost more in fuel and provide slower acceleration than the Lambda, as well as de-simplifying the manufacturing process to some extent. It's for this reason that I feel the 2.7L V6 must be an all-new engine. A consequence of this, however, is that I can't even begin to give you a guestimate of the fuel economy it may provide.

    Anyway, here's what I'm guessing for a 3.3L set-up:
    FWD,
    city/highway = 19/28

    AWD,
    city/highway = 18/26

Please remember that they're purely guestimates, and should therefore be taken with a grain of salt.

OK, I made a mistake on the RAV4 / Santa Fe comparison post:
I stated under Santa Fe advantages, "Standard cassette player, 8 speakers, & 2 tweeters w/sound system; 3-month XM Satellite Radio™ subscription." The base model will likely not come standard with a cassette player, as you can see in this image. There will still be either six or eight speakers, tweeters, etc. According to press releases from earlier in the year, XM Satellite Radio™ should be there as well.
    Sorry about that!

Oh, cool! So my lowly Elantra has a 12-way drivers seat!

Front edge of seat bottom up
Front edge of seat bottom down
Rear edge of seat bottom up
Rear edge of seat bottom down
    Seat forward
    Seat backwards
    Seat back forward
    Seat back backwards
    Lumbar support in
    Lumbar support out
    Headrest up
    Headrest down

If there's anything you'd like to know, or any type of image you'd like, just let me know and I'll see what I can do. Even if I don't have an answer (or can't "adequately speculate" about it), perhaps someone else will.

Those are great pictures, as have been others you've posted. Thanks for all of them. This vehicle, appeals to me on so many levels - and I really like the piping on the seats. I wonder if that's something that we will get. Somehow I suspect not. If Hyundai continues their "value" pricing, it seems to me that this new Sante Fe will just be incredibly successful.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Somehow I doubt the U.S. will get piping. The Korean-market Sonatas have red piping on the black interior, for example. No such thing here. So the caution is, don't get too enamored with any particular little feature on the Santa Fe because it may not survive the transition to America.
  • kguykmhkguykmh Member Posts: 15
 but some Korean envy Hyunbdai's American model.
I don't know why they are making it differently.
Even car companies look like they don't know what consumer wants. Maybe, It's little bit tough to make it satisfied for all race and nations
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
That is very interesting. It's a little off topic, but could you share with us why some Koreans envy the U.S. models?
  • elegulelegul Member Posts: 1
Let me say something cause I am a Korean living in U.S.

First, there is still wide spread rumor in Korea that U.S. models are much more safer than domestic ones; some people believe that the thickness of body metal for U.S. models is much thicker, so much safer. I think this is not true today but suspect it might be true in '80 when Hyundai first exported it's car to U.S.

Secondly, for the same money Americans can buy more powerful car than in Korea. In korea, if you want to buy V6(3.3) Sonata 2006 model, it costs almost 33K. The most popular sonata in Korea is having 2.0 engine.

    Hope it helps
  • musky1gfmmusky1gfm Member Posts: 36
Funny that the subject of thickness has come up.I'm of the opinion that all Hyundai's are made of much thinner metal than say a GM product.
My wife has a 05 Elantra GT,and I love the car but it is very susceptible to dents.I already taken it in for parking lot dents,at $75 a pop.
I really like the 07 Santa Fe but think it also will dent easily.
The body shop person who does my repairs also agree's.He thinks there is some sort of different alloy in Hyundai's metal.
  • LDegrelleLDegrelle Member Posts: 74
Thats the on feature I keep wanting, yet all the vehicles I like dont have it or its only available on luxury trim.

I just got my Santa Fe, so sadly I will not be able to upgrade any time soon.

I dont see squeezing anyone in the 3rd row, but I LOVE that cargo area!

All I can say is that I'm sold! The Santa fe was supposed to be a replacement for my wifes Civic but the heck with that, I'm trading in my TSX for this! The thing I was impressed with was that in the photos it shows that the headliner and also down the pilars there is a woven cloth material similar to my TSX and not the mouse fur that other cars has. That screams detail to me! I love the styling, to me (and others here have echoed this) ot resembles a FX in the front and a Toureg in the rear. And since I can't quite afford a FX (or at least the wife says) this is just as good! Mike, you seem knowledgeable beyond knowledgeable about the Santa Fe, I wonder if you would know the answer to a question regarding the trim I was on an earlier post. It was mentioned that the US version wouldn't get the lighter trim faux wood, but in all the pictures I've seen, I've seen only one shade of faux wood. Does that mean the US market will only get the other dash trims? I know there is alot of people who hate the would trim but I can't see myself getting one without leather and the wood trim seems the best combination to me. Thanks!
  • jhyytianinenjhyytianinen Member Posts: 18
Doesn anyone also know anything about the trim on the door pilars? I hope this sounds right..ont he outside of the doors between the windows there is this black trim but on a few photos its body colored. The trim appears to just stop and not go to the top like most cars. Is is some kind of tape or something? I know this sounds stupid but the reason I'm curious is that a year a ago some kid threw a rock at my window while on the freeway, it etched the glass (thankfully it didnt shatter it) and also damaged the door trim. On my Acura, its some kine of sticky black tape so I'm curious if its the same here. By the way, does anyone know why my post has the Canadian flag? I'm in hawaii. Maybe I set something up wrong!

You can fix the flag issue by going to the "Forums Profile" link at the left and updating your location. At some point you must have set it to Canada, I guess!

    Aloha!
Don't worry, that now seems to be false information: it should at least be available, if not standard. What I don't know is what type of wood trim we'll be getting. We've seen maple on the leather-trimmed units and cherry on most of the base models -- we could be getting one or the other, both, or neither in the US (burled walnut is something of a possibility, as is aluminum or some other metallic material for gray- &/or black-themed interiors).
I'm sorry I don't know more about the USDM version. The bad news: unless we get lucky and a willing individual (with a camera) obtains access to a pre-production HMMA unit, we'll likely have to wait until Detroit to find this stuff out for sure. The good news: we only have to wait a month at the most.

Mike, thanks for the info. Maybe you might know this or someone could clear this up for me. The Korean site mention it had HIDs. I was always a bit confused what exactly where HIDs. Is that the same as a Xenon head light like the luxury cars that emit that blue light? If the Sanata Fe does come with those, I think that would majorily improve the perception of the vehicle and brand. I love the way the those light shine and have a distinct cut off pattern. :confuse:

Is it just me or the way they took the picture or are the gauges like those in the Lexus? I think they refer them as optitron or something where is backlit and really bright? They look really nice and a heck of alot better than the puke green ones in the Sonata.
