Hi, just bought a car and there was a delay in the title by 2 days..finding out now it has a salvage title..its a 98 caddy {53,000 miles on it} with some damage to the rear 1/4 panel. just want to be sure I can eventually register this and drive it once I get it fixed.. would really like to know if the salvage title was before this damage or after this..cause its not alot of damage.jWe havent met to sign the title yet, do that in 2 days at the title place, just want to be sure this guy isn't yanking my chain... thanks in advance if anyone can help
Did you pay 'salvage title' price (~ 1/2 normal price)? You need to check with your local DMV and your insurance company about salvage title cars. I'd spend the money on Carfax, this could be a real problem car.
thanks but we didn't know its has a salvage title, we haven't signed it yet..apparently he told the title place where we are to meet him on Wed.. He never told us. we are a lil clueless about salvage titles.{ she explained a few things} I just feel he's hiding more then we know by not telling us about the title period.. as far as it being his grand fathers..that checks out.. and the damage isn't that bad..we can fix that..I just want to be sure I can insure this and register it.. its still a nice car.. hope I don't have to beat the crap outta him! { grin}thanks for your info
Well the car is worth about $3000, so the damage had to be about 80% of that to have the car totaled. Does it look like $2400 damage? If not, then something's not right. The issuance of the salvage title doesn't have to occur when the accident happened. It could be issued later, if say the car was stored.
In any event, the car was misrepresented so you don't have to buy it if you don't want to. I hope you're getting it cheap in any event.

report it stolen .give the license plate to local authorities or run car fax report to find if there is change of ownership. but you to find out how long ago was it missing.....
We purchased a property in Texas at a tax auction. There was a truck on the property that someone towed off this week. The VIN is IFDXI7VKC55544. We would like to know who the truck was registered to. We have reported this to law enforcement via a fax at this point until we can get to our weekend place and file an official report.
Nobody can give you the registered owner except a law enforcement request through DMV. Also Carfax and Autocheck don't have records on vehicles that are too old to use the 17 digit VIN system.
