Hi folks - now that it's time for the I35 discussion to leave the Future Vehicles board and join the Sedans board, I have merged the FV I35 topic into the existing Sedans I30 discussion. Some posts will appear out of order because of this.
Anyway, carry on - the I30 and the I35 are what we're talking about here! :-)
Can anyone in the greater Chicago area tell me what, if any, prices were advertised in the Sunday's Tribune for the I35? The I35 is just not advertised much. Can one get an I35 in the Chicago area for around 27K?
I have a 1998 I30t and this light came on this morning. Of course it could be a myriad of things and sure I'll take it in to the dealer. Question for this board is has anyone else experienced this warning light and if so, why did it turn on?
I have 113,000 miles on my car and it looks and drives like the first day I bought it...thanks all!
Does anyone know the location of the sticker that shows me the color codes for a 2001 I30. I know the exterior is Millenium Jade and I think the interior is Sage - but I want to be sure of the interior color before I order interior parts.
I am thinking about getting an I30 but was wondering if the back seat folds down, or has a 60/40 split folding seat? Because I have a small dog, and would need to put his crate back there and I dont want to have to worry about it ripping the leather or anything.
Recently I was in the market for a new car, I wanted to get a G35 but I didn't like the ride, and how much engine noise you can hear in the cabin, so I ended up buying a 2002 Infiniti I35 with 20,500 miles. Now the problem I am having is that it already needs new struts, ends links, and new tires. My question is could this be one of those cars that the odometer was tampered with. I know that cars are man made and things fail, but for the tires and struts to at 20,000 miles? If anyone out there can help me out, It will be greatly appreciated!
I have a '98 I30 with 275k on it. Body is still perfectand interior has one small tear/worn spot in leather. I use this great car daily for work, sales job and it is the most comfortable and durable car I have ever owned...
Thinking about a new Infiniti soon....don't need a race car but wondering about experiences with the newer models....
I purchased a used Infiniti I35 last year with about 20,000 miles, and I love it... there were only a few problems with it but I got those taken care of and its running great. If you are looking for a new car The G35 is a nice car but it doesn't have a lot of room for a big person (like myself) and you can hear alot of engine noise inside the cabin! It is a great car to drive if you can deal with those two things... What kind of car are you looking for exactly?
Bought car with 47,000 three years ago and car has been exceptional. I travel a lot and car tuned at 70,000 doing just the norm for tuneup. Brakes also done front and rear. It is burning a lot more gas at the moment and despite using high test BP gas, the engine is pinging when speed is accelerated. Plan on using platinum plugs this go around and changing to synthetic Mobil I oil, flush the transmission oil and change that out, rotate tires and get front end alignment. If any other suggestions to get done or check on please respond. What about belts being replaced at this time? No sign or symptons that i see or hear that would cause me to look elsewhere for anything. If anybody has concerns with my schedule of things to get done, please write. Thanks for any advice.
Let me if after you do the platinum plugs/ changing to synthetic Mobil I oil/ flush of the transmission oil if the pinging stops, I don't use cheap gas but the pinging is always there.
If you check out this site, you can get a maintenance schedule, just pick which year you have and it will give you a complete list of what should be replaced/inspected!
Pinging can sometimes be caused by carbonization of the combustion chambers and higher gas consumption by clogging injectors...you might consider adding a potent injector cleaner and then giving the car some good hard runs on the freeway, and repeating this for a few tankfuls. This might help both those issues, if they exist.
A CONSTANT buzz is coming from under the hood while the car is NOT running and the key is OUT. I have disconnected the battery twice - the buzz stops but returns in a couple of days of driving. My local garage says its coming from the Trans. I am at 120k miles now and I have put about 60k on since I have the car. The fluid has been changed since I have it. Looking for suggestions...Thx Gus
Far as I know, the Limited trim level added the CD changer, leather, and the sunroof - though you could get all of these on any other I30 by checking the right option boxes. They dropped it in 2000 and sold only Luxury and Touring (I30t) models.
My wife's 2000 I30 also has had the trunk popping open while she drives it. We used the latch in the trunk that disables the driver's door switch from opening the door but that's only a workaround. Has anyone found the solution?
I avoid going to a dealer like the plague. If I have to go in, I want to know in advance exactly what must be done.
There is a TSB 614043 for this problem on the '99 I30 but I couldn't find any details on what the solution is. I could only find that the problem exists and what the number is. Does the TSB describe what the fix it, and if so, does anyone know how I can get that information short of going to my dealer?
The fix involves installing a relay to bypass the electrical switch that operates the trunk remotely, and there's this:
"Prior to beginning repair, ensure that the customer understands that after the repair, they will be unable to open the trunk with the door mounted trunk switch or remote key fob when the transmission selector is in 'Drive'."
Incidentally, 614043 is NHTSA's number; Infiniti calls it ITB 00-048a. And it applies only to I30s through 1999, not to 2000 and after.
The trunk on my 1999 I30 will not open. I hear the usual popping sound when I depress the interior button as well as when I try to use the key directly on the trunk. Unfortunately, the trunk does not budge. I have never had a problem like this before and, short of going to the dealer, I would like to know what I can do to fix it. ??? Thanks in advance.
Just wanted to let you know you that don't have to shell out $300 to fix this ubiquitous problem with i30s. I got 2 sensors from Ebay (brand new BeckArnleys - $20 each). And had my mechanic install it for me for $120. He had to hard wire them in since the less expensive ones you get on Ebay don't come with the factory connectors. It is advisable to change them in pairs because once one goes bad, it is just a matter of time before the other does too. So, something that would have cost me $600 to change, cost only $160. Good riddance SES light!
I recently purchased an 2004 I35 . It didn't come with any owner's manual. The dealer told me that there are heated seats front & back. Is that true?? How does one turn on the rear seats? Are they on the same switch as the front seats?? I do like the car very much. I up graded from a I 30t 2000 !
The rear heated seats are on the same panel as the power window switches for the rear seats.
If you look on both rear doors, you will see the power window switch, and then right above that there will be a switch for the heated rear seats.
In retrospect, I should have bought the Heated Front and Rear Seats (aka the Cold Weather Package) when I bought my I35... Would have gotten the heated steering wheel too...
I just don't get it! When I first turn on the car in the morning, my cd's skip (no matter which of the 6 I play). When it's raining, same thing, until the car warms up and it starts to skip less and less until it doesn't skip anymore. I was thinking maybe there is some condensation on the disk and the laser can't read it well, but even when I put a cd in that I got from the house, it still skips. I am not sure if the temperature has a role in the skipping but it sure is coincidental!
A mechanic at Infiniti has admitted to there being a problem with the factory bose stereos, and that they start to skip to the point where they won't even play AT ALL....people are constantly bringing their cars in to get the stereo fixed. If there is such an issue with these systems, why aren't they recalled?
Is anyone else having problems with their Bose player skipping? Is there any solution to this Bose disaster?
I am very disappointed in Bose. I can't believe they would actually put their name on something like this and not offer to fix it. As much money as they charge for their systems, it should only be expected that they should work properly. :confuse:
I let the player play for a little while and it FINALLY stops skipping once it's warmed up, but the frustration of that process is ridiculous. Maybe contacting Bose would help?
I have a 2000 I35t that is currently having a sensor replaced at a local garage. They've told me that I'll have to take it to an Infiniti dealer to have the computer reset after the replacement, though. Anyone know anything about this?
Also, my driver side headlight (Xenon) is out but the bulb is still good. Any electrical system issues?
I noticed someone said something about a defective sunroof. Mine won't do the express open and won't close/seat on it's own. When the battery is disconnected and reconnected and everything is reset, it works correctly for a while. Anyone else had this issue?
Thanks for your input. Please let me know if you find a permanent solution. I used a CD cleaner to clean the lens. It played a full CD without any problem but it is back to square one now. Your suggestion of calling BOSE or talking to a infinit dealer should help. Are these covered under warranty?
I would imagine that it would be under your car's warantee, but unfortunately I don't have one of those. I am going to try to find the model number of the in-dash and see if I can call Bose about it. I'll DEFINITELY let you know what I find out.
Anyone know what the recommended replacement schedule for the water pump and/or timing chain is? I heard the latter does not need to be changed as long as you do regular oil changes but what about the water pump? Thanks.
I have an '03 I35 and just spoke with a service writer about the CD player skipping this morning. He indicated there was nothing they'd do, even if the car was under warranty, which I find hard to believe. Because it's weather related, he indicated, it's not a "persistent" problem. That's why I ended up here, of course. He also recommended a cleaning disc, but I see that's been only slightly effective.
I'm also going to try to contact BOSE about this. Perhaps with enough consumer interest, they or Infiniti will work to resolve the problem.
To be honest, I have had this problem for atleast the last ten years. Both my maxima's had that same problem, then I bought a I35 which currently has the same problem. A friend of mine has a Acura, and his CD player doesn't play for the first 20 minutes if its really cold outside. I was told by that even with a new Bose CD player eventually it's going to happen again.
Well, it's all just too sad that BOSE - one of the best sound system companies in the world - can't produce better quality than a weather conditioned stereo that skips to a bit of chill. And what a crock that the Bose package that people pay to have on this car is such a low quality for the price. I think I have learned that Bose is BEST left inside the house.
It should be pointed out here that Bose doesn't actually manufacture these units: they are produced under license by Clarion.
The only skips I have encountered on my 2000 I30 were from CD-Rs of perhaps questionable provenance; commercially-produced discs work just fine. (So far.) After consulting some tech types, I believe that even the CD-R issues can be mostly avoided by (1) burning at slower speeds and (2) sticking to 74-minute (650 mb) discs, which are easier to track than the ubiquitous 80-minute discs.
I read your post with regards to the buzzing sound. I am having the exact problem with my 2003 I35. I was wondering if you were able to determine problem and if you could share the solution
This turned out to be a problem with the Electronic Motor Mounts - which one of the other guys had suggested to me......... If you disco the battery for a bit and reconnect - the noise should go away But - the next time you hit the gas hard - the problem will return I got the parts from Infinity and had my local guy do the work - less labor but the parts were 400. There was a service bulletin for my car on this problem. Hope this helps - GUS
Hello everyone, I am considering buying a used 98 i 30 standard. It has 164,491 miles. The car is in good condition and runs good. the only problem i see is that upon initial start up the belt squeals. If i turn off and restart the belt does not squeal. Also does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions that I should know or consider for this vehicle. Thanks to all replies
When I was warming up the car ( '02 I35) this morning, I noticed that only the right side of the dual exhaust was actually kicking anything out. When I put my hand up to the left side, i didn't feel anything coming out. I'm not a mechanic, so I've been trying to research possible causes in the web. Anyone have any suggestions?
Recently My daughter lost her set of keys to her 2002 I35 as this was the only set we had to have a locksmith make and program new keys for her car at a cost of $200. days later the security light comes on and it rolls over but will not start. She did find the original key for the car the day after the new ones were made, but neither will start the car. has any one else had this issue?
If you have a single muffler with two pipes, as I do on my '00 I30, this is a design feature: at somewhere near wide open throttle, which you won't generally reach during warmup, a valve inside the muffler responds and opens up that second pipe.
after clearing code for Misfire on # 4 with new coil pak - the above comes up immediately on starting. at this point - all plugs changed, a second coil pak (other part number) was used with the first to move around to different cyl with no result. Crank sensor and condenser replaced with no result. My guy thinks the problem could be the harness. What can I expect if I goto dealer? Is it worth it?
Thanks, we had disconnected the battery and was trying to start it with the old keys. But we had to disconnect battery and only use the new key. Appreciate it very much!!
There exists a TSB (ITB01-052) for P1320 which does indeed suggest the harness, so the dealer is likely to point you in the same direction. If the harness is fine, they'll probably want to replace the other four coils.
I have a '98 Infiniti I30t, and I have a problem with it stalling. If I'm in gear and I throw it in neutral to brake, my rpm's drop to 0, pop back up, then the car stalls. Sometimes it won't even pop back up before it stalls. I have changed nearly every related sensor, from the knock sensor to the speed sensor, and nothing seems to work. I have a feeling that it may be related to the fuel pump, but every mechanic I take it to says the fuel pump seems to be working fine. I changed the fuel filter and still nothing. If anyone has any advise, please feel free to respond...
hello there, question regarding brakes. i bought my front disk plus pads less then a year ago and now are worn out. was told that i need to buy new ones..Im sure they are in warranty but i dont want to have them anymore because unfortunately this disks are made in China and i didnt have a choice at that time. So back to my question, what is the OEM brakes for the inifini i30 or which brakes (disk + pads ) should i get?
Is a 1996 Infiniti I30 the same as a Nissan Maxima?
If there are differences, what are they?
And which would car (I30 or Maxima) be preferable, given all things being equal like year and mileage? I am thinking about both reliability and cost to own (repair, insurance, gas).
i have been having problems finding a dash kit for my 2000 infiniti i30. Every place i call do not have it in stock and i am unable to get a new radio because of this. do anyone know where i can go to get this done.? :confuse:
I have a 96 i30t five speed which has been doing this progressively worse over time, particularly as the weather turns cold (worst case at night with the lights and heater on). I have 215K on this car and haven't touched the throttle body since 88K. I had a 98 i30 for a while with 140K and when I took the throttle body off to clean on that one, there was some significant gunk. Now, whether that can affect the car's ability to quickly control to the idle rpm when you close the throttle valve and let the engine "coast" down... hard to say. I know there have been occasions when I have clutched to down-shift going into a turn and the engine will die before the revs come back up. The fact that it has slowly been getting worse over time makes me think it could be related to the TB. Anyway, cleaning the TB is the first thing on my list. I'll post afterward and let you know if it helps. It's not a hard job. Remove the air cleaner box, then 4 bolts and the TB is free. Take care not to damage the gasket between the TB and manifold. At that point you can clean it on the car with some carb cleaner or SeaFoam. Just block the opening to the intake manifold so you don't inadvertently get something in there. DON'T remove the hoses going into the TB, since two of them are coolant lines, and you don't want to introduce air into the system.
Ever since I changed the fuel filter on my '98 Infiniti I30 my MPG has dropped 25%. I'm baffled. Plugges in the diagnostic thing, it comes up with nothing. Put in new plugs-nothing. Got new tires-nothing. Cleaned the fuel injectors-nothing. Anybody else have this problem after changing just the fuel filter and you MPG dropping so far? Any help is appreciated. My email address: msmiller4@msn.com. I would appreciate any and all help or comments or I'm unloading this turkey even tho' everything else is GREAT! 1jazmin
