I got our Sienna at James Toyota in Flemington. They were great to deal with. Good Luck!!

Hi, I just wanted to post my experience over the last week negotiating a deal for a new Sienna my parents purchased. Between my brother and parents and myself we have had five Toyotas and have been quite happy.

We started at a dealer where my brother had recently bought a Camry. They were quoting MSRP, and maybe removing the destination charge. We then went and checked out the Nissan Quest, nice but a little cheap on the inside. The Nissan dealer quoted 200 over invoice.

We then went to the Toyota Dealer that I bought both of my Camrys at and my dad and brother each had bought cars at. They stated they would remove the destination charge, I smiled and asked them to see what they could really do. They came back with 2500 off on any Sienna in stock. I then saw the owner and asked if he could do better, he agreed to take off 500 more. I told them we would think about it. Three days later we tried another dealer and they were willing to do 2300 off but we could order what we wanted. I then called the first toyota dealer and they quoted 3000 off of any Sienna in stock.

Feeling lucky, I went back to the dealer that first offered 3000 off. They had an XLE FWD with package 14, Arctic Frost Paint, Sunroof Wind Deflector, Rear Spoiler, Running Boards, Auto-Dimming Mirror, Hood Protector, and Mats. The list was 35,542. I asked what more they could do on it or an order, the owner came back and stated that he would take off an additional 562 on the XLE. My parents bought it. They bought it for 31,980.

We were very pleased. I know that these Siennas are in demand, but MSRP is nuts. When you include the 620 TDA, my parents ended up at about 500 over invoice. The Sienna is great, and while I liked the Quest's skyview roof and dual DVD option and second row folding seats, the quality and driving feel of the Sienna negated the Nissan's pluses. I do wish that my parents would have found a Sienna with the DVD, but given the amount saved, it is something they won't really miss.

bondguy1, you mentioned that the 115V outlets that are in package #5 with the limited are the same outlets in your home? So I can plug anything from home into it?? I'll be getting a 2004 Sienna XLE LTD with pkg #5 in about a week and a half. So excited! Trying to learn as much as I can about it before I get it. Keep learning new little "perks" that I didn't realize before! And you posted a question about some outlets, possibly audio/video outlets, wondering if they were tied into the DVD system. Did you ever find the answer to that? This is going to be the longest week and a half of my life waiting for my new van!

Would love to talk to that dealer to get a new Sienna. (MSRP should stand for Mydealer's Suggested Ripoff Price).

You can plug anything in your home, I wouldn't recommend coffee pots, refrigerators, or microwave ovens!

I'm excited about our new van and excited for you. Where did you get your van, what color and what kind of deal did you get (you don't have to answer the last part if you don't want to)? I don't know if you read my post about getting it in New Hampshire and I live in Fort Lauderdale. When I told the dealer here in FL what I could get it for, he told me to jump on it because it's never really going to happen. Well, it did and I can't wait to go visit him this weekend in my new Arctic Frost van (heh, heh, heh). Getting back to your question, the outlets are located on the left side...one set by 3rd row seats and one set in cargo area in rear wall of van. There is a button you push on the dash near the radio that lights up when active to turn the outlets on...this is probably not a big deal to most people, but if I'm paying the same price with or without it, I'll gladly take them. As far as the audio/video looking jacks, I haven't even had time to read the owner's manual yet. But, I have to say that I think they are audio/video and if so, I'm sure they must somehow connect to the DVD Screen...combines with the plug, you could hook up a gamecube or even add a VCR in additon to the DVD. I haven't turned in my 2001 Town & Country yet because it isn't due until 4/13. I just sent them my last lease payment today...now I have fun loading it up with mulch and all other dirt and stuff that I won't be hauling in my NEW van for a little while. I also am driving between one and the other so I see many differences. The Chrysler is definitely a heavier feel to it as far as cruising on highway, it's nice...not nicer but nice. But, and I am not kidding, I din't feel like going in the house the other day when I got home...had a great CD on and it was as if I was sitting in a comfortable chair in my living room...only better because I had the huge moonroof open too. I know also that the Odyssey is coming out all new in late this year...but, I don't know how they could make it any better than this van from Toyota is now...somebody said it may have electric fold flat seats in rear...plus, the waiting list will be so long, the prices will be sticker price plus+++. Enjoy your van and if you see posts a little higher or lower than what you paid, don't worry...just enjoy driving the most fantastic "Mommymobile" currently out on market today...if you don't believe me, ask DAVENOW...even he said the $145 didn't matter that much once he actually pulled the trigger and bought one.

Yes folks, the strangle hold is finally off. Dealers in the Norfolk/ VA Beach area are advertising 04 Siennas $2000 off MSRP.

Hi, please don't take this personal but your post made me sick. You and your family bought 4 cars from a dealer and they jerk you around before giving you their best price. I'm sorry that's garbage. Why is it in every other known business customer loyalty means something EXCEPT the car business.
I would have said 100 below invoice, here's my phone number and YOU can call me.
Come on it's a freaking car , an APPLIANCE. In three years it'll be junk and you will be in the market or a family member will be in the market for another one. Your loyalty was not acknowledged.
    Just my 2 cents.

Anyone in Portland Oregon who knows any dealer that wants to deal regarding Toyota Sienna. or any Sienna buying experience up here in Portland Oregon?
  • zabackzaback Member Posts: 5
I also had a very frustrating experience searching for a Sienna in Portland, little to no selection and Dealers unwilling to negotiate.

However I had read a post about Sacramento having many Sienna's on there lots and willing to negotiate. I went to Carsdirect and found a Zip for Sacramento and the prices were much better. I found a dealer willing to deliver to my house for $350. (Fairfield Toyota)

I purchased an XLE Blue mirage with spoiler and auto dimming mirrors for 31,000 about 2500 off msrp.

It was great I got to pick my color and get the options I wanted at a good price.

Thanks everyone for your help and encouragement.

I am beginning the process of looking for a 2004 Sienna LTD AWD with package 4. To say that there are very few of these around is an understatement. Short of going to NH has anyone had success at acquiring one of these at something less than MSRP?

    Thanks
  • jdeibjdeib Member Posts: 70
I understand your post completely. Let me give you, as Paul Harvey would say, "the rest of the story". My post stated that we had bought 4 cars from this dealer, what I omitted was that there was another car purchased, a 2003 Camry my brother bought last summer which was purchased at a different dealership 40 miles away precisely because of what you had mentioned. We felt that they took our business for granted. The other dealer was very responsive and my brother got a fantastic deal. 200 over invoice less the 1000 dollar rebate. That is the dealer that we first checked at.

What really was bothersome was that EVERY Toyota dealer had this Take it or leave it attitude on the Sienna. I was incredibly impressed with the willingness to deal at the Nissan Dealer that we shopped at. The people there were very professional and it was very tough choice, but what ultimately prevailed was my father's reluctance to go to a different brand. We talked about this purchase more than any of the cars any of us had ever bought.

I'll say this, the Toyota dealers attitude is very poor when it comes to this model. I'm sure you could do very well on just about anything else on that lot with the exception of the Prius or the Tundra Double Cab, but some dealers just don't get it, it is a loyalty that they need to keep. I have a loyalty to Toyota, but Dealers should try to generate loyalty as well.

However, to be fair, we were at 3000 off within 10 minutes of being at the dealership. Then the second time back, we were at the final price within another 10 minutes. And while it took some go-round, this was the best deal by far for the vehicle that my parents wanted. We violated the cardinal rule in car buying, my parents fell in love with a particular vehicle(brand) and then my job was to get them the best deal. I am very pleased with the vehicle and more so with the deal.

I disagree on one point though, I do think that this deal is a function of our prior relationship with them, you see they are aware that my brother didn't buy from them, and the owner was upset that the one person at the dealership acted in a way that made my brother go elsewhere. The owner was who cut the final 1062 off. But your reaction sounds very much like my brother's, we shouldn't have to go through the formalities, the owner knows that when he sees one of us in his dealership, we are buying, not tire kicking. I agree with you both, but my view is for the time that we bought it, we got a great deal, in two months, will they be advertising them at ivoice less rebates? Maybe, but as long as there are people out there who will buy close to MSRP, most dealers will likely be reluctant to give great deals. It is silly, but dealing with the situation as it was, we did fine.

In January 04, I had an offer on a Sand Ltd AWD Sienna (FE, HE, Z1, HP) from the Conicelli Toyota, Conshohocken, PA that was about $1900 below MSRP ($37500 for $39435 vehicle). I am still in the market looking for a Sand Ltd AWD with HO but so far was not lucky to find one. Good luck!

Hi jdeib, thanks for the more detailed explanation. It sounds as if you did well after being placed in a difficult situation. At least the dealership owner showed some respect for your family's loyalty.

I have to purchase a new vehicle about every three years and it frustrates me that after 20 years my relationship with the dealer means nothing.

Good luck with the new car,

    ==Mike

We have zeroed in on the Sienna as our van of choice and are now trying to decide WHICH Sienna. If we got the XLE, we would add pkg #16 (GJ) so that would make the only major differences between the XLE and the LTD the better cruise control and the rear/front sonar for about a $1200 difference. Do LTD owners out there find these features worth the extra $$? Also, we are trying to decide if the Navigation feature is worth it - it seems pretty cool but has anyone out there put it to real use and found it worthwhile? Is the backup camera that useful? One of the downsides to NAV for me is that I have to give up the 6-CD changer for it! Anyone bought an XLE with #16 or XLE Limited with #4 (HE) or #6 (HO) for a good price they could post? Thanks!!

I am shopping for an GH or GJ package in DC metro area. I am able to get a drive out for GJ for 34,505 and for a GH with 33,700 ( both of them are out of the door prices) Also for the GH the price includes a dealer installed DVD system ? Is this a fair deal or can I still negotiate further ?
  • jester_monk1jester_monk1 Member Posts: 4
I am also looking at either a loaded XLE or XLE LTD.

I would like to get any input of whether around $750 over invoice for XLE LTD (with #6)is a good deal here in LA or not? There are a couple of folks who can get me there. That puts me at $34,402+$750 = $35,152 + Tax (8.25%) and license.

Would like input on the value of NAV + reverse CAM vs. 6-CD changer also. Gotta get it done quickly so would appreciate any input on price as well as the options.
  • impact01impact01 Member Posts: 95
I would say the LTD is definitely worth the added cost for the features you get (parking sensors, Laser cruise, HID lights - I would be willing to pay $1000 for the lights alone). I find the rearview camera needs a little bit of getting used to. Having to press "I agree" button on the NAV everytime is somewhat cumbersome, but I find one needs only the address to go to any place.

jester_monk1, $35152 for FWD LTD HO is a very good deal, but are you sure you aren't missing the TDA?. carsdirect.com gives the more accurate invoice prices. For me NAV+reverse cam is more worthwhile than a 6 disk CD changer, because I don't listen to CDs all that much.

We just put in an order for a Salsa Red XLE with option pkg #5. 4 wheel disc brakes, Stability and traction control, and side/curtain air bags were must haves. Had to spring for the non-essential sunroof to get the important stuff but it'll be fun to open during our pleasant Wisconsin summers. Leather and DVD were of no interest to us. That red makes a bold statement!

Wilde Toyota in Milwaukee offered a great no-nonsense buying experience for us. I was quoted an internet price and was able to get if for 2300+ below MSRP. No tricks were played like "oh we can't find the price we quoted you". Plus they were more than willing to work with me to place a custom order. My option pkg. is not standard for this region. No pressure to buy from on the lot. The salesperson was courteous and professional. He encouraged us take a long test drive on Freeway, city, and suburban roads.

Now we must wait for the van - 4 to 6 weeks ;-) I expect the close will go OK.

I feel we got a fair deal. One always wonders how much better you could have done. (If I were to wait too long then interest rates may start going up and I could be at a net loss.) But from what I had researched I wasn't sure if I'd be offered more that 500-600 off MSRP. My experience with other local dealers was not as positive for a variety of reasons; pushy incompetent salesperson who considered a 10 minute test drive around the block sufficient or dealers unwilling to special order (3-4 month wait one dealer told me!)

This is my first experience with a "foreign" make car. (yes, I know they are made in Indiana.) Since this model has been out over a year, and knowing Toyota's reputation, I expect this to be a reliable van. I've lost faith in Ford due to the fact my 96 Sable wagon with "only" 104K has become very high maintenance. (I'll save these gripes for another discussion group.) Sorry Ford, you lost me.

Anyone know what a Toyota Administration Fee is? My dealer is trying to add on this hokey charge of almost $500, saying it is something they are charged by Toyota.
  • michelle1michelle1 Member Posts: 8
I'm getting the Limited with pkg 5, Arctic Frost Pearl, same as your van, apparently! Color was more dh's choice. I really wanted dessert sand mica. Anyway, as for the deal. I have 2 uncles who work at the same Toyota dealership in another state from where I live. Was planning on going there next week anyway for spring break with the kids (grandparents live there too) and decided to see what my uncles could find for me. I didn't really check to see what kind of a deal I could get locally because I assumed they would get me the best deal. Well, from what I've read here, I'm not so sure. We got about 2,000 off MSRP. Oh, well. I'm incredibly excited. 8 more days now. HOPEFULLY there are no problems with delivery. It's scheduled to leave the factory TODAY. Already bought the kids new DVD's for our drive home. :-) Oh, and as for the new Town & Country coming out...I did see that it would have fold-in 2nd row seats and a 3rd row DVD screen. That would've been nice to have but not worth the thousands more I'm sure it's going to cost. Not to mention, I do love the way the Sienna drives!
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Double check with the dealer and make sure they aren't talking about a TDA fee (Toyota Dealer Advertising).

Do a discussion search in here for TDA for more details.

Finally, concentrate on what it costs to get the van off the showroom floor, and don't get too hung up on the line items. It's that final price you need to really worry about.

That definitely sounds hokey. It seems to me that it's really nothing more than another way for a dealer to add profit but then claim they have no control over the cost by giving it some sort of a "name". Everything is negotiable. FYI, My dealer charged $89 for a similar dealer fee they said was for added record keeping. Whatever. They openly stated some dealerships will charge $400+ but that they felt that was excessive. Wow, a dealer with (at least somewhat) of a conscious? My advise, either shop around or negotiate the fee down.
  • boxfanboxfan Member Posts: 180
Just took delivery on a front wheel drive XLE with FR (package 12? 14?); that includes 4-wheel disk brakes, side curtain airbags, stability control, heated leather seats, and window shades (those are really useful). Final price was 30,098, which included the $98 processing fee. That's about $2800 below MSRP. Purchased it at Tom Pappas Toyota in St. Peters, MO, near St. Louis. The entire purchasing process was extremely easy--I knew what I wanted, called a few places recommended by friends, got the price quote over the phone, ordered it and got it about six weeks later. I was expecting some sort of last-minute unexpected extra fee, but it never happened. The only pressure I felt was to buy an extended service plan at the last minute, but I didn't go for that.

My only advice for anyone shopping right now is CALL AROUND! Just compare the out-the-door price and try as many dealerships as you can. Some places in St. Louis tack on the "advertising fee" and claim that all dealerships in the region charge you for that, but that's wrong. Wrong! Call (or email) a lot of dealerships; not only can you find a better price, but you might get a van earlier, because some places will already have filled their next month's allotment on the model you want.

We're happy with the van itself. The lights, doors and seats seem complicated, but I'm sure we'll figure it all out. It definitely drives like a Toyota--smooth, quiet, light steering, leans a bit in the corners. Toyota did a great job with this van, and I especially like the tight turning radius, which makes parking easier than I thought it would be on such a big vehicle.

I had another offer from Faulkner Toyota on the same vehicle in February 04 (they said that the vehicle was exchanged between dealers) but it was about $1000 higher than the original offer from the Conicelli. Lately, I could not locate the Sand Mica Ltd AWD with HO from these local dealers' inventory list.

We bought an LE with option #7 from MotorWorld in Wilkes-Barre, PA (mid-January). Almost $2500 under MSRP. I believe they have a number of XLEs coming in (salesmam posted on another website). Good buying experience with them (lowest price). We did everything over the phone or by email.

I'm looking to find a good deal on an XLE FWD package 12 in the Northern VA/DC/MD area. Anyone have any leads or can recommend a great dealership?

    Thanks!
  • momof3momof3 Member Posts: 9
I purchased my Sienna about 9 months ago out of state in PA. It was impossible to do any negotiating in N. VA.
Today I am looking to replace my Le7 FWD #8 with the very popular Arctic Frost Limited FWD #6. I have been testing the waters around here and have had no success. I am looking out of state again.
I love my current van so much that I want all the other features I do not have. Nav, leather, dual power doors and hatch, park assist, etc. Yes, I am very spoiled, but I am glad I bought my LE first. I did not spend as much as I could have to determine that the family and I love this van. The depreciation is not as bad as one might think, since the 04 is still pretty popular one year later.
  • impact01impact01 Member Posts: 95
Well, just today I saw carmax in Laurel has an Arctic Frost Ltd (not sure it is package #6, but from MSRP it sure looks like it) advertised for ~$2000 off MSRP. I got mine from Darcars in Dec for $2800 off MSRP, but carmax in Chicago had something for $3500 off MSRP which you might want to print out and take it to Darcars for them to match.

Of course, if you want $100 to $500 over invoice, I think autofair in NH is the place to buy from!. Good Luck.

I am considering buying a 2004 Sienna LE with at least package #1. Have used the internet to get quotes. The few I have received do not appear to be very good deals. Still waiting for responses from others. Does anyone out there have any recent buying experiences with dealers in the Phoenix or Tucson areas? Also, any recommendations on packages to consider?
  • ctkandctkand Member Posts: 4
The best deal I've been able to negotiate here in the NC area for an Arctic Frost LTD with HO (#6) is $1000 over invoice - out the door price with ttl is $37727. I've tried to get other dealers to go down to $750 over invoice but no bites. Does this sound like a reasonable deal?
  • garnerjgarnerj Member Posts: 31
I started out looking at a LE7 with Option package 1, (AM) as well... They are hard to come by many dealers will assume they have to order one and will not give you a deal on it...

I changed to option package 5 (BJ)... I was reluctant to do so because I did not want to increase my price... However for just a few hundred dollars more I'm glad I made the switch!

With the higher option package you get a built-in antenna, better sound, and better wheels…

    Good luck...

It is similar to the deal I got in December. It appears, LTDs with Package 6 are not that common, so if I were you, I would take the deal based on market conditions near the DC area.

I think I got a reasonable deal in Northern VA. Here is the dealer invoice breakdown for 04 LE with FE, CM as factory installed options and WH, DK, Z1 as PIO.

    Vehicle Base Model:21,237.00
    Total Accessories: 4,111.00
    Destination Charge: 540.00
    TDA: 446.00
    Gasoline: 6.00
    Dealer Holdback: 488.00
    Whsl. Financ Reserve: 244.00
    Total: 27,072.00
    Paid $ 812.16 (3% over) + 27,072.00 = $27,884.16 +TTL

The lowest price I got quoted on a 7/100/0 platinum extended warranty was 1,295. I called Midway Toyota, and spoke to the Fin Manager, but was told very busy, just don't sell warranty, and never heard back. I called a couple of Dealers in Windy City (Chicago) and was able to get a 7/100/0 Toyota Platinum for 1,075. I think it's like $200 more than what I saw here. I bought it.
    ===============================================================
I also noticed the following residual value on the Dealer Vehicle Report Enquiry: Low was not provided for 24Months

    Residual Value 24 36 48 60
    -----------------------------------------------------------
    Std: 15,834 15,102 12,999 11,046
    LOW 15,590 13,487 11,535
    ================================================================

I know that Darcars in MD are selling LE's for $500 over invoice + Freight. If you take the edmunds invoce and subtract the invoice which Darcars show on their internet, one will notice a little over $1000 difference. I spoke to the internet manager, and asked him abou this difference, and I was told that the difference is dure to the TDA+Dealerholdback+financial reserve.

Steve. I sincerely hope I didn't break any rules by posting this!!

Looks like TDA could be a pretty good way for Toyota dealers to squeeze more profit out of the deal. When I was car shopping last year I passed on a Toyota because of all the extras like TDA, Financial Reserve, and gas fees that they were trying to add to the published invoice + destination price. When I bought my Tundra in 2000 none of these fees were an issue and I paid under the invoice+destination price.

We bought a new Accord in 03 for the published invoice + destination price. I find it hard to believe that Honda treats their dealers any different than Toyota. Something just doesn't seem right to me about how TDA is being worked in. I think some of this money ends up in the dealers pocket at some point some how. The car business hasn't changed that much, there isn't a scam known to man/woman that car dealers haven't tried to pull on consumers.
  • chortonchorton Member Posts: 149
These fees are legit. Toyota and/or the Distributors charge ALL the above to the dealers. Honda I don't think uses distributors, the dealers buy straight from Honda. This kind of cripples the Toyota dealers b/c the dist. can charge extra fees and the dealers HAVE to pay them to get the cars. If they were not an issue when you bought the tundra it wasn't brought up. Those fees were there weather you knew it or not.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
You pay ad fees whenever you buy any car, but those fees generally are buried in the invoice and aren't made line items like Toyota does with ad fees and the like. I guess they'll add a telephone and electric utility surcharge next.

I don't see a need for the TDA practice and can only assume it's done to confuse the consumer and try to pad profits.

As always, focus on the out the door price and try not to get hung up on the line items.

  • chortonchorton Member Posts: 149
Toyota is trying to be open and honest in thier invoices. if we pull a factory invoice it will even disclose the total holdback included in that invoice. As a whole the Toyota system can be confusing, but if you have a dealer you can trust to give you all the information it is much more "consumer friendly"!! Look at the re-sale values and the newly raised residuals in the toyota line up. They must be doing somthing right. I don't think anyone has bought a Toyota and been ripped off, reguardless of how nuch they paid, they have gotten in most cases a GREAT vehicle....over and over and over again.
  • tommyboy2tommyboy2 Member Posts: 3
I just bought an LE 8 person package 7 with floor mats. I am paying $26,250 plus tax and tags. I have been assured that this includes all fees like TDA and "floor plan". What do you all think? Good deal? I expect to get it in the next week.

I learned of the redesigned Town and Country after I decided on the Sienna. I can get plan B pricing on the T&C. Think it is worth a look?

I was wondering, for those that financed a Sienna, what was the APR financing rate that you have to pay right now?
We thought about financing but my husband didn't want to pay interest so I never found out what the interest rate that my dealer offered. We didn't lease either so, you guessed it, we paid cash. All $38,000 of it. So I just want to know what were you offered?

    Thanks in advance

I talked my parents into financing a portion of their new Sienna last week. The dealer had a local bank offering a rate of 4.1 percent for 5 years. They put down $12,000 and will probably pay the balance off in a month or so.

My fiance bought a new Grand Cherokee two days prior and She was able to get 3.84 percent for 5 years through the bank that the Jeep dealer was using.
