I am thinking about a Sienne LE with package 4. Dealer has offered me 300 below invoice. What do ppl think? Should I bite?
There are other differences between the models, the most significant of which is that the Limited has HID headlights.
I believe Toyota's Nav system can only be used when the vehicle is stopped.
So does $37109 sound about right for XLE AWD with Package 12. I think it's pretty good (includes destination charge)...about $3000 less than MSRP, better than Edmund's TMV (which may be out of date unfortunately) and about $700 over invoice...I believe...I've seen some conflicting data on invoice prices...but also about $300 more than I would have paid if I got it at Fitzmall...which is down in Maryland and I'm in Massachusetts...simple math on expenses/time/effort says $300 to save going to Maryland (versus a dealer who is 10 miles from my house)...is a no brainer to stay up here.
Something else strikes me here too. At least for me, the most important thing is to get the exact vehicle I want (and usually I seem to want something that is hard to find). As a result, it is worth a tad more to get it.
Here, in two months of looking at Siennas, I have yet to see an '05 XLE AWD #12 on the ground. Come to think of it, I haven't seen any XLE AWDs at all.
This was a hard to find model as equipped in the entire northwest, and I think it was a good price based on limited availablility.
Don't pay the 1400 dealer asking price for the extened warrany. As noted in my original post, I got it for 975 which I'm told was dealer cost, same goes for the Toyota pre-paid maintance if you get that too.
If, in fact, a Limited is an extra $1000 for park assist, HID, laser cruise, more fake wood, and some chrome on the outside, the Limited strikes me as worth the additional money. However (and unfortunately), it is just about impossible to find a Limited without either the HE or HO package, neither of which I want nor need.
Cheers and Merry Christmas to All!
Toyota does some strange things. I would love to buy an XLE with cloth interior and a sunroof. Problem is, Toyota does not (officially) build one for my region (which includes Ohio). Yet just last week what did I see on the ground here? A bunch of cloth/sunroof XLEs. Could I purchase one? No, they are part of a fleet order.

Any Honda buyer/owner/seller reading this is probably LOL.
Happy New Year,
Kevinp.
Seriously, between Toyota's arbitrary option availability and their absolutely horrible, arrogant dealers in my area, I have decided (yet again) against purchasing their product.
This marks the fourth time in the past 11 years that I started a new vehicle search with Toyota as my first choice. However, I have yet to buy one and it is always the same story - either they don't offer what I want or their dealers turn me off or both.
I am hoping to close a deal to purchase 2005 Sienna XLE AWD with package 10 (leather seats, seat heaters, side door sunshades, 3 row curtain shield airbags, DVD with wireless headphones, 115v outlets...).
Dealer in Seattle area quoted best price of $35,804.
With options above, MSRP is $38,030 and invoice is $33,411.
Is that a good deal for the Seattle area? I am told by several dealers that XLE AWD are difficult to come by in the NW. Is that true?
What would be a "good" price?
After a one hour, $125 one way ticket from Cleveland to Fort Wayne, I picked up my Sienna and drove home.
Painless experience. If you'd like more info, let me know.
FYI, at the end of November I made an attempt to buy a new '04 XLE FWD at Montrose Toyota in Akron. However, they did not seem to be seriously interested in selling the unit. I believe their magnanimous price on an MSRP of $35,7xx was $33,000.
After my old van was totaled (my fault
I hope your vehicle search isn't as misguided as mine.

Congradulation to your good deal! Could you please help me on this?
I get a offer from an internet dept of a dealer.
Their offer is:
20206 - base price from manufacture,
376(wholesale 470)-Package AG, do you know if this package is optional or required. According to Edmunds, AF is CE pkg#1 and no charge. But AG is 376.
119(wholesale 196)-floor mat,
565-destination charge,
325-TDA, could you please tell me what is TDA, is it considered as dealer's profit?
464-Dealer holdback,
6-gas charge,
232-wholesale financial reserve, could you please tell me what is this and is it considered as dealer's profit?
---------
Total invoice price: 22293
According to Edmunds.com, there is a $400 Toyota to customer rebate. I am living in Chicago area.
The dealer said $400 is not available in my area.
Is this true and how can I find more info?
They are offering $300 above the invoice except tax, title, registration, etc. Is this a good deal? If you do not mind, what is the invoice price they quote you and how much above or below do you pay? Do you get the $400 rebate?
Thank you very much for your help!!

I will buy the same car and also want to do the deal through email.
Do you pay for Package #1 and floor mat? Is package #1 a optional or required?

After three weeks search, in Dallas/Fort Worth area, finally I pay drive out price(OTD) $34,600 and get
=================================
1. 05' Sienna XLE
2. XLE Pkg#6
3. Rear Spolier
4. Window Tint(Front drive/passage side windows)
5. Carpet Mat Set
6. Arctic Frost Peral color.
(The MSRP for 1 to 6 total is $35,675)
7. Night Vision Mirror (add on later)
8. Mud Guards (add on later)
====================================
Overall I think I got around $3,600 below dealer's MRSP.
Here is my shopping steps and experience:
I. week 1: Research and test drive in three dealers. we tested drive both Oddssy and Sienna. We picked Sienna(personal preference).
II. Week 2: Send out the e-mail to several dealers through Edmunds.com and cars.com. Based on the response, I found that this method is good but not very effective. Because first I don't know if the dealer has the car that I want in stock or not. If dealers have the car in stock, they are more willing to give a good deal. Second, I don't know what other accessories already added on the car. Without knowing these add on stuff, you don't really know what is dealer's real MSRP. In Texas area, a lot of dealers have add-on like "Extra Mile Option Package A, B, and C" and "Vehicle Shield Package". These add-on could cost from $349 to $2000.
I went to Toyota web site(www.toyota.com)and typed in the ZIP code(several different ZIP code to find all dealers around). From there I went to each dealer and search their new car --> sienna --> pick XLE 2wd with all color. Then it shows me a list of Sienna XLE with status "In Stock" or "Available". Available means dealer does not have car on hand. I did go to two dealer's parking lot and compared the list. The search list is very accurate.
From the "In Stock" list, it is much much easier to know what dealer really has on hand with actual MSRP, Interior/exterior color, option Package, and dealer installed accessories. In the detail page for each Sienna, on top left page, there is "Get a Quote" area. I just enter my first/last name, e-mail address, ZIP code, and my offer price(like $34,000 + TTL). Then I submit it. Using this way, I got much quicker and more responses from dealers. Also I can only deal with those dealers who have the car that I want and also have car in stock. So the chance to make good deal is increased dramatically and less hassel. Of course the chance is also depends on what Offer price you put in.
Instead of figure out what is the dealer real invoice price(I am not good on this), to make it simple, I just use dealer's MSRP price - $3500 or $4000 as my offer price. The $3500 off the MSRP is my base line. And the Offer price + TTL is my Total Drive out price(OTD). I also used Edmunds's payment calculator to calculate the OTD price, which I can compare with dealer's OTD price(to prevent dealer put in some nonsense). Several times, dealer gave me the Price + TTL and then I asked them gave me the OTD price also. Interesting is dealer's OTD price is $125 to $150 lower then the Edmund's payment calculator.
III. Week 3: After using e-mail back and forth several times with several dealers, finally I waited until yesterday and let three dealers to bid the OTD price to each other. At this stage, OTD price is what I really care. I wait until yesterday is because near the month end. I did experience that dealers are responding more often, quicker and eager in the last week of month. The final three dealers have the car I want and I just told them straight that I simply just want to get a good deal and they have competitors. I ask them if they can bid the price, if yes, let me know and I can buy the car today or tomorrow. At last, I got a OTD price I think is good and then I bought the car.
As several messages mentioned before, One thing I think is very important is only use e-mail to communicate and make the deal until final deal is set. Never go in dealer's place without confirm final drive out price(OTD). Even if you want to add on some accessories.
Anyway, that is my Sienna buying experience. Hopefully this help.
I tried the internet thing, and did end up buying from the internet sales person, but negotiations were all done in person. I would much rather have had a completely internet experience, but the dealers in my area, save one, wanted to talk on the phone or in person. The one who did communicate quite a bit over email couldn't get what I wanted.
Took 4 days to narrow down the dealer based on gut feel, then about 2 hours at the dealer to test drive, get our trade-in evaluated, make the deal, and leave the deposit. Not stressful, and it helped, I hope, that we'd done some Edmunds homework. The trade-in price they gave was hideous, so we won't be trading in. Guess I'll have to sell it on my own.
Here's hoping that in 4 weeks I won't get jerked around!
XLE Limited, HO, RS, WH, Z1, PC
MSRP 40,571
Paid 35,924 + taxes & licenses
Toyota extended their year-end to 1/03 so that the sales people have an extra weekend to make the numbers. Toyota of Puyallup is trying to stay at the top of the highest volume dealer in the state of Washington so they are more willing to cut a deal. Appleway Toyota in Spokane is probably running an ad for 100-200 over invoice. They are doing good business based on the number of cars being shipped from Oregon there. Wouldn't have to go pick it up in Spokane. I-5 Toyota of Chehalis is also offering good deals. Titus-Will of Tacoma is also offering good deals. All those dealers have been very polite and professional to us.
Never dealt with Thomason Toyota in Oregon but I think they are probably the highest volume dealer in the Pacific Northwest and probably would be more likely to deal to stay at the top. We have some inside information that in the Pacific NW Thomason sold ~ 2200 cars last year, followed by Toyota of Puyallup with 50 cars behind and Michael's Toyota of Bellevue 20 or so behind Puyallup. I doubt Michael's Toyota would deal.
DO YOU GUYS THINK I OVER PAID??? OR THIS IS A FAIR PRICE FOR THIS MODEL.
Thank you everyone with your posting since it helped us in our final decision and negotiations.
I faxed a number of area dealers just before the end of the month, and did all the price negotiation over the phone, which made the discussion actually at the dealer much easier. (I got an information and strategy guide from Fighting Chance, which was very useful). It also didn't really matter what the dealers told me about their prices with respect to invoice -- when they stopped lowering their prices to beat each other, I knew I was getting the best deal I could in the area. I actually didn't take the lowest offer, since the dealer with the lowest offer said the car was "available" but not on the lot --- I went with the dealer who had it on the lot to avoid a bait-and-switch attempt which might have meant having to start over with the negotiations when I didn't have the "end-of-month" pressure working in my favor (he also included the Z1 and the WL which others weren't and was still only $87 more than the lowest offer I got)
Thanks to this site, though, I knew not to buy the extended warranty from this dealer (who offered a 6/75K/50 policy for the $795 which people are buying the 7/100K/0 policy for from KC Summers).
I think I got a good deal, and though I won't relish it if I didn't -- does anyone have thoughts/comments?
Thanks!
$25,900 from Boch Toyota in Norwood, MA
My question is what to do regarding extended warranty. The offer at the dealership was $1100. The previous post mentioned KC Summers.
Can someone enlighten me. Also what about all the other "extras" that they were pushing at the closing. Fabric care, alarm, etc...
Thanks
The internet manager at Toyota of Lake City where I purchased was very professional, fair, and very pleasant to do business with.
Here is the flip side.
Before I purchased the car, the internet manager at Bob Bridge Toyota who was aggressive insisted he had THE lowest prices in the Seattle Region, which turned out not to be the case.
After the purchase, I thanked him (which I meant sincerely) and told him that a competitor beat his prices by about $2000. The angry and unprofessional response I received was "Well, they were just stupid and didn't make a fair price on this van...you are just cheap". People like this give car salespeople a bad reputation.
We just bought the Sienna LE, pkg #6 for 25,889 with all-weather and regular carpet mats, in the Boston area. I thought I would share my experience to help others.
We planned to get a minivan in Mar/Apr since I am expecting #child 3 in May. We were thinking Ody vs. Sie just based on reputation. We were bored in VT last w/e and went to a Toyota dealer to look at the Sienna, and found a salesperson who couldn't answer any basic questions (can you get 8 pass with leather? can you fit 3 carseats across the back? etc) and promised to call us back. 3 days later, she left a vague message. We went to a Honda dealer to check out the Ody, and discovered we couldn't fit 3 kids in the middle row, plus, the price was more than the Sienna and every penny counts. I also called at least 3 Toyota dealers and posted on the Sienna vs. Ody board to find out if 3 kids could fit in the middle row and got answers ranging from no to maybe.
Meanwhile, more on a whim, I sent out emails to all the local Toyota dealers asking about preowned or 2004 8 passenger Siennas and found out quickly there weren't any. I then sent out emails (at least 6-7) on 12/31 asking for availability and pricing on 8 passenger Siennas with pkg #5 or 6 (we really wanted the side airbags). Two dealers (Wellesley and Acton) quickly responded with sensible emails and offers (26,3 and 28) for that exact car. The others responded with 1)flashy useless ads promoting their dealership and promising me a phone call which never happened or 2)useless emails saying how great they were and that they had Siennas in stock (no kidding). Jan 1 arrived and the dealership with the best internet offer was closed, so we went to a large local dealer to test drive and do the car seat test. 3 large seats did fit well, but that dealer did the usual cat and mouse game and we left two hours later, with no solid offer to match the one we had and tired of the game playing. That was their big mistake.
Jan 2 arrived and I emailed both of the previous dealers with lower quotes than they had offered (25,9 for the dealer who offered 26,3 and asked the other to "beat" 26,3) -the latter dealer said "take it if you can get it, that's an unbelievable price" and the other called early in the am to confirm our offer of $25,900 with all-weather mats, spent less than 5 min talking to his "manager" and called back accepting our offer.
The ironic part is that today, Jan 3 (the last day of the Toyota month), all the previous dealers are now calling me/emailing me and I have the pleasure of telling them that if they had just answered my question (what price can they give me on the 8 pass LE with pkg #5/6) promptly, they might have had my business. I can't believe all the smoke and mirrors that still exists in this business. I applauded the dealer (who told me to take the other offer) for his honesty and prompt emails/call back).
We pick up our new Sienna Wed and I can't wait!
When I was talking to the Finance guy at my dealership...the guy was totally surprised and questioning whether it was the Platinum warranty.
On top of that, he said that at that price....he wouldn't be surprised if that was the Gold warranty.
Is this extended warranty that you got the "top of the line" Extended warranty that one can get?
I am going to call KC Summers up soon and wanted to be sure that this is the best warranty and also that the warranty will be honored at all toyota dealerships.
For those that got the warranty from KC Summers and had to use it to repair something....did you find it difficult to use the warranty at your local dealer?
Congratulations on the new arrival! (We are in the same boat, and that is why we went with the Sienna 8-seater too ;-) ). We were also disappointed with the Ody redesign (though that is a topic for another forum...).
We picked ours up today and love it already!
(BTW, we ended up getting it from Bernardi, whose first offer was one of the lowest and didn't seem to try playing games with me like some of the other dealers).
Here is the breakdown:
= Price of the Vehicle ( including Package #1, Running Board and Rear Spoiler ) - $37733.29
= Doc Fee - $45.00
= Sales Tax - $3116.71
= License Fee - $300
= California tire fee - $5
Total OTD price - $41200.00
Now....all I have to do is get the Extended Warranty.
Thanks to all for your posts....it has been very helpful.
Although I've never dealt with them, I have bought cars out of town/state sight unseen and never had a problem.
That said, it does pay to pin them down very specifically as to vehicle mileage to avoid disappointment (or a demo). Also, have them email or fax you a copy of the window sticker (or other relevant paperwork) to be sure you and the dealer are on the same page. They should be willing to email you pics if desired.
Other than that, just make sure ALL financial details have been covered and explained before you make your sojourn.
I too am in the Southeast (FL), and purchased from FitzMall in
Gaithersburg, MD over Thanksgiving, and then drove home. The savings were worth
it. I bought a 2005 XLE Limited for what I figured was $2500 less than
I could have negotiated on the same car in the SE region.
Every person I dealt with was extremely
helpful and professional. For example, they detailed and preped the car for
me without a deposit - they did so on my word that I was coming in to
buy. All in all, excellent experience, and the price and experience
cannot be beat.
Good luck, and let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks
The dealer I'm working with placed the order (XLE ltd fwd HO) in the second week of Dec. and reported that it is being built today and will be here in about 2 weeks. The dealer is located in Long Beach, CA. Now, of course, the fleet manager may decide to pull something funny at the last minute, but she's given no indication that she would do so thus far. Have you contacted other dealers in your area to confirm ave. delivery time for such an order?
Good luck, LH
This is not an unusual combination - check inventory at other dealers either by calling around or by using Toyota's website.
