I have to agree with your decision to stick with the Bravada even after all the problems you've encountered, I would've done the same.
PS to the guy waiting on his Indigo Blue/Medium Pewter Envoy-mine is the same color combo and took 2 months from order to delivery.(5/16-7/19) Allow 2 weeks after built for delivery. The color combo is awesome! We get compliments every day on how attractive the vehicle is. You will love it.
Thanks
Jim
However, I took my Envoy to the dealer because one of the redundant controls on the steering wheel does not illuminate when the lights turn on. Get this... the service dept told me that the dimmer switch was not turned up all the way. Duhhhh, how come the other 7 are visible and one is not. Instead of arguing with the service idiot I went home and called the service manager. Fortunately, he has done a great job to calm my anger and I expect to take my Envoy back to get it fixed right this time. I just don't understand why these jerks never even looked into the problem in the first place or even called me to ask me questions regarding the problem.
I have one big favor to ask the other Envoy owners out there... I would like to know if the dimmer control is supposed to illuminate when the lights are on. I find it strange that all the other switches in close proximity do and the dimmer does not. The service guy told me that it is not supposed to but for some reason I don't believe them. I guess I could go to a dealer and look for myself, but thought I would ask here first. Thanks in advance for your help!!
I have noticed that the dimmer switch does not light. Kind of funny isn't it...everything but the dimmer. By the way...The cabin truely lights up like a Christmas tree doesn't it. I love how it looks at night, and its easy to find everything. I have, in the past, owned vehicles where the controls on the wheel and the controls for the windows did not light. I'd always be putting down the wrong window, lol. But everything is well lit on these trucks...even the over head controls...just love how it looks at night. Good Luck getting the control fixed.
I still do love my Bravada although I've been driving my STS more lately. The Smart Trak is just great in the rain and while going around corners while wet. I almost got a 2WD but noone had any. I'm glad I didn't! I do wish I would have waited until the package with the Rainsense wipers was available though. My STS has them and they really are convenient if not totally necessary.

Was yours constantly stuck in 1st or every once in awhile.
appreciate any info on this matter.

I saw on a test somewhere though that they didn't fair too well in the 5mph test. Like $750 or so in damage. Rear did fine as the hitch is there. Perhaps I should push a little more for the brush gaurd or something?
Anyone have a brush gaurd? I've seen some nice ones on the Envoy's...I really don't want all the bars across the headlights, just the main one up front.
Once while during the test drive and once when I came to a stop when I parked I heard a short hissing noise from the rear area. Sort of like a sound a bus makes at a stop. Is that common to hear? Is it from the rear air suspension?
Is anyone annoyed by the cupholder situation?
Do any tall people, like myself, hit their head on the rear liftgate when its up and you are loading things or under it?
It's a solid feeling SUV and I like it. My main complaints are what I posted above, and a small entry to the second row seats and smallish exterior mirrors.
Thanks for your comments.
Rob
robz - I think that hissing is the rear air suspension adjustment going off. It hisses when it is releasing pressure from the rear air springs (to lower the rear height). I suppose sometimes when one stops, the vehicle dives some in the front (rises some in the rear). If the height sensing is sensitive, this might be the cause of the height adjustment (trying to lower the rear in response). Probably afterward, it kicks in and pumps the air back in when the rear has settled and the sensor indicates it is a bit low (but is not as easy to hear the pump as it is to hear the air being released).
The rear seat entry is very tight because of the way the wheel well cuts into the door opening. It is even tight to get kids in and out.
The cupholders in front: one is useful but too close to the console, the other is useless except for the ashtray insert that comes with the Bravada (which I use for coins because I don't smoke). The floor shifter makes this cup position useless except for the smallest of cups.
Besides this, the Bravada wraps you in luxury that makes up for the quirks.
Do have one question though that my dealer was unable to answer. This is listed in consumer guide...>> Standard front side airbags include HEAD/TORSO PROTECTION FOR THE DRIVER, Torso only for the passenger <<..Don't quite understand this. There is a side airbag for the passenger, no..?...Why does the driver get head protection and the passenger doesn't..? Any help would be appreciated..Rod
I know you'll say take it to the dealer for a check. But that's kind of hard when they are all on strike in St. Louis. The strike is expected to last until October.
The Envoy only has 3,500 miles on it. I need it everyday. Any ideas? Should I call General Motors and see what I should do? Do I take someplace else to have it checked? If I do, I think GM should pay for the service. If I do take it somewhere else does that effect my warranty?
Or should I just drive it until the strike is over and use Onstar if I break down.
Well, here's my experience. Love this ride! So much so we got two of them. Wife finally tired of cramped little sports cars.
Anyways, top this.
After just three weeks of driving my new TB, some uninsured-suspended license-POS, rearends me at a stop sign. My indigo blue LS has a smashed rear bumper, 1300 miles and not even a license plate!
I wasn't sure how to react. Never had an accident, thanl goodness for good insurance though.
Hey, I just wanted to share my pain...any sympathy??? Thanks all.
rdh, you have my sympathies. Only reason I have a Bravada now is I was forced to buy it. The only accidents I had in my old Olds were rear-enders, each time. One was like yours, except stopped at a light. This last one was slowing down to make a left turn into our little cul-de-sac. NOT another car on the street! And this stupid young woman hits me. Car was considered too old to repair, so insurance gave me a paltry sum. And now I'm trying to sell the car. $80 for a 3 line ad in the newspaper! It all has been such a hassle. Hope the girl has had a lot of sleepless nights.
In my case, she got the ticket; then the cop spent a bunch of time telling her how she could get her points reduced. Insult to injury. Sigh.
sostrouble. You should still be under warranty. Doesn't sound like you will have to pay for anything. Sounds like a faulty light/sensor which the dealer should take care of. Call GM, they should do right by you.
Or, if you don't want to perform this simple pull test,
purchase one and then when you wash it for the first time, when you get to the fenders, see if your stomach wont sink to the floor!
Otherwise, this is an excellent truck! Fix the problem GMC!
Regards To All,

rdh559: I feel for you. I have only had two accidents and both times I was rear ended. Once at a stop sign, and once in traffic.
Just read in the paper that a Red Trailbrazer was stolen off the dealers lot the other day.
I am still learning about the many features that this vehicle is packed with! One thing I learned is that if you hit the small buttons labeled 1 or 2 on the drivers door panel, you will change all the driver preferences from driver #1 to #2, or vice versa. I was driving down the road the other day and I accidentally hit the #2 button when the radio went off and the climate control system changed to the manual mode. The vehicle will automatically adjust everything (power seats, mirrors, radio, climate control, etc.) to the setting of driver #1, or driver #2, depending on which remote was used to unlock the vehicle, or which button on the door panel is pushed. Hint: read the portion of your manual relating to the driver information center. There are numerous options for how you can program the different features. Nice job by GMC designing this vehicle.
Now I,ve been reading some of the earlier post's here or should I say complaints(up to #751) and I can't believe some of them. Now mind you I only have test driven the Envoy so far,but I will be trading in my 98' Durango with 318 engine and 3.92 gears and everything but leather.
Now for the people who complain about poor gas mileage, cheap looking interior, wondering where the 270 hp.is, noise, ride and handling, apparently have never driven or owned the Dodge Durango.I was test driving the 2001 Durango and shopping around when my GM credit card sent me an ATM card that if I test drove an Envoy I would get 40.00 dollars. So I went to nearest GM dealer drove one and fell in love with it.The power, ride, handling and options are far superior than my Durango and if I do better than the 13 to 14 MPG.that I'm getting now it will just be another plus. And after owning my last two GM's a 92' and then 94' Yukon I swore I would never own a GM product again show's how much that test drive of the Envoy impressed me.If it wasn't for the 40.00 that I got to test drive the Envoy I would probably would have done something stupid and bought another Durango never knowing just how much better the Envoy was.
Just my long .02 cents.
Rick.
I agree completely...I almost have to angle my foot sort of sideways to use the pedal comfortably.. Thankfully, Cruise Control keeps it from being a problem on long trips.

But, my question is, what is GM telling you about this? You have called them, haven't you? The service dept. may not being helpful because you are just another face in a long day. Talk to the mgr.; if no results there, then go into the showroom. The salespeople just love having disgruntled customers talking "up" vehicles in front of prosepective buyers!
Dislikes and concerns:
Turned off those goofy tilting mirrors. I do not want to look at the ground while I am backing up,
I want to see what is behind me. Any good driver has walked around their vehicle prior to backing up...I already know there are no tricycles, skateboards, shopping carts, etc. behind me. What I want to see is my truck parked in the driveway and what is in the street. Just my preference.
Everytime my wife pulls into the garage, I hear a sizzling sound like cold meat hitting a hot skillet...I am sure this is the A/C condensation dripping onto the exhaust manifold, but it is still annoying. Anyone else noticed this??
No one that I am aware of has ever addressed the issue of child car seats in the triplets. I went to install my daughter's car seat in the Bravada, and found that the seat belt on the middle of the back seat does not lock down to hold a car seat. Read owner's manual, and lo and behold, you are not supposed to use a car seat in the middle position of the back seat. Now any idiot (and GM's engineers are the biggest idiots of all) knows that the safest position for a child during a collision is the middle position of the back seat...why would GM design the back seat to where you cannot use a car seat in the middle position?? Morons!! Well, I got the metal locking bracket-thingy that came with my daughter's car seat and proceeded to thread the lap belt and shoulder harness through it. I tightened the lap belt as tight as I could, and it seemed to be fine using this seat belt locking bracket. Car seat also has an anchor strap, which is attached to the tiedown behind seat in cargo area. I am sure that this arrangement is okay, and my daughter's safety is not compromised near as much as it would be if she were sitting in one of the outboard seat positions. Any one else have this probelem? What are your thoughts?
Other than that, so far so good, for the whole 60 miles it has been driven prior to this morning.
I'm going to call GM Customer Service today.

BTW, I heard the water hissing too, but after a few days I guess I got used to it.

1) As I recall, the homelink transmitter is on the rearview mirror with all the OnStar buttons. Some of the other posters probably know more about this than I do.
2) The DVD screen is located on the headliner approximately midway between the front seats. It is the third item in line on the roof, behind a large storage compartment and a sunglass storage compartment. The screen (IMHO) probably does interfere with looking in the rearview mirror, though we have not driven with it down yet.
3)I do not know about any parental controls in the front seat area (I have not seen them). We have not operated the DVD system yet, but I will convey what I know. There are some A/V plug-ins (video game system ??) on the roof console holding the screen. All of the other DVD controls are on a hand-held remote...looks just like the one you would have for your home entertainment system. DVD system also comes with two wireless IR headphone sets...I am assumimg you can also hear sound through the rear seat stereo controls, though I do not know that for a fact. I do know that front seat occupants can listen to the radio/CD while rear seat passengers listen to DVD through the headphones. There are also plug-ins at rear seat stereo controls for hardwired headphones.
That's all I know about the DVD system for now...I will give it a test drive this weekend, then report back when I know more about it.
Here is the ideology of the tilting rearview mirror(s) - by the way, the Bravada is the first vehicle I have seen with dual tilting ones. Most just have them on the passenger side. The idea is that when you are parallel parking they are a great resource for seeing exactly how far you are from the curb. I also like it because I have a very long driveway that curves and it makes it easier to keep from running up on the grass as I back out.
So you see, the mirrors are not tilting so you can see what is behind you (of course we all know that mirrors are not the best source for safety reasons), they are tilting so you can see the ground by your tire.
As someone who drives in the city often and has to parallel park, I find them indespensible for saving my tires/wheels from the granite curbs here in Atlanta that are murder if you get to close to them.
Regarding the homelink, the buttons (on the Bravada anyway) are at the frontmost portion of the overhead console (with the sunroof, anyway) and are to the right with the left buttons being for the Travelnote.
Enjoy!
Also, I get the same response to the headliner falling down being the sunroof. Does anyone know about a TSB for that?
Thanks in advance.
I hope this helps,
Dennis
Anyone that owns one, please comment.
Thanks.
