looking for an EX or EXL in bay area during July 4th. Can anyone share recent EX/ELX purchasing experience in Bay Area?
    Thanks,
  • gizzanksgizzanks Member Posts: 13
I think that is a fair price( would have liked to have had that price last week for my EXL-RES). The best I could find in Seattle was 30,850. For some reason they are demanding a premium here. TX cars are always much less for some reason.

    Joyce Honda, Denville, NJ.
I also had a quote of $100 below invoice from Open Road Honda, $200 below invoice from Metro Honda and $250 below from DCH Academy Honda.
All the best buying one. This week is a great week to buy one. They will have lots of specials because of month-end, quarter-end and half year plus the July 4th sale.
This is a great mini-van by the way. Am loving it already.

I searched this forum and found a lot of threads on pricing for Touring models WITH NAV/ DVD....but not much on base Touring models.

We just bought a Touring model for 32,524 in the phoenix, AZ area. I think this is a pretty good deal....figure it to be about 800 over invoice.

What do you think? OK deal, pretty good deal, really good deal?

    Thanks

Am I in the wrong spot? It looks like people only buy the EX Models? I'm just looking for the basic model - don't need any fancy add-ons.

Any suggestions for Denver CO area?

I should look for Invoice plus prices, not MSRP minus prices?

    Thanks!

I too am looking for suggestions on pricing of the LX van. Dealer gave me a price of $24,300. Dealer invoice with destination charge is $23,186. Anybody out there get an LX cheaper?
  • rich17rich17 Member Posts: 2
I just started to get prices from dealers on this model.

Dealer invoice plus destination is $23,186 and first dealer wants $24,300.
Anyone have any buying experiences with this model?

Drove the EX-L RES NAV and loved it.
Is there a subscription fee for using the NAV using the menus or voice activated feature?
If there is a subscription and one does not subscribe? what features do you not get)?

That sounds like a great price to me -- I am looking at the exact same model -- The "top of the line" Touring with dvd/nav that has an MSRP of $38495 + $515 freight = $39010 total MSRP. I've been told (by shoppers and salespeople alike) that the demand for this car is so high that they are not likely to sell for much below MSRP or $500 less than MSRP, but have not gotten into serious negotiations with anybody yet (about to begin that process though).

If you really got the exact same car for $35936, that sounds like an incredible deal, definitely worth going to Lancaster for (I'm in DC area too). Can you verify that it was a 2005 Odyssey Touring with DVD RES and Navi which has an MSRP of 38495? I'd really like to know the salesperson but I know we can't post that here...

I just purchased a Honda Odyssey EXL without NAV or RES (rear entertainment system/DVD). I did all my negotiating on the internet and paid $27,975.00 plus tax and license. The dealership is Honda Santa Monica.

One note of warning: their contract department is very aggressive in the hard sell department. DO NOT buy any of the add-ons they are pushing -- they are not worth the price, especially the KARR Security Systems EX-1 Factory alarm upgrade: They were asking $450 for basically an electric shock sensor which wasn't worth more than $150.00.

My total out the door price was $30,580.40.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
No, there is no subscription fee for anything associated with the navigation system. The only additional cost you might incur down the road is if you purchase an updated DVD for the system (current cost is $185).

    Washingon DC region:

Just took delivery on a 2005 EX with RES. Paid 30,150 + tax & tags from Pohanka Honda of Salisbury. Wonderful experience, knowledgeable, and friendly service with no pressure. Informed them of the price I was willing to pay, and then accepted and then delivered the van free of charge to my door 3 hours away.

The offer price came from a dealership in New Hampshire (Autofair), where I was going to purchase the car if I could not get it locally. Although I did not purchase from them, they were also very friendly and honest. Local dealerships in Northern Virginia would not offer anything even close to these 2 dealerships. After giving a verbal agreement, I was offered a price of an even $30k from a dealership in Harrisburg, PA where they also offered delivery.

As a happy customer, I can honestly recomend Pohanka of Salisbury, and feel confident that Autofair would have also lived up to my expectations.

    Good luck!

I am in Northern California. I have received a phone quote for an EXL with RES & NAVI for $33.,990 + tax and fees. Is this good or can I do better in southern California?
  • wazwaz Member Posts: 1
I am looking at a EXL with DVD and adding on fog lamps ($537) and auto dim rear view miror ($432) plus 6 year 100,000 warrantee (after 3/36000 it is engine and drive train only) for $32,000 plus tax.

Opinions if this is a good deal? If so, I will pass on the dealerships name.

    Let me know your thoughts.

Finally got an EXL-RES at Honda Carland for $30200 + $349 doc fee + tax. They gave me $2500 for a 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager, which was more than I was getting anywhere else. They were very easy to deal with, and there were no surprises. They did reserve a car for me without a deposit, and we were there for 1 hour signing paperwork. Thanks to this board for all of the info. Now for the Honda Care haggling!

Recently bought the 2005 Odyssey EX (cloth) at Norm Reeves Honda dealership in Cerritos, CA. We paid $25800 (Invoice: $25881) + taxes + reg fees. I talked to several dealerships and most of them were not willing to sell for invoice. Infact, few of them wouldn't come down from the MSRP. We were patient and finally we got good quotes from two dealerships (Norm Reeves and Power Honda CostaMesa) and Norm Reeves gave me the best price finally. We wanted the Slate Green but they had that in stock only on the EX-L models. We liked the Silver Pearl colour also and we got that. I always thought that driving a Van is slow and not that exciting. Odyssey changed all that. Its a fun vehicle to drive and has all the features we wanted. Few months down the road, we may add a aftermarket RES system. Rightnow, I am happy with what'ive got. :)

Just bought a new 2005 EX cloth - no add ons for $25580 + 6.5%tax+ doc/tag fees at Waikem Honda. OTD price of $27370. Very easy transaction!

After going to 2-3 dealerships and being told that we'd be crazy to expect anything more than $500 less than the 38495 MSRP + 515 destination, I put out very specific internet requests on the websites of about 6-7 dealers within 100 miles of us in Sterling VA with the exact color, interior, and specs on the car we wanted. Basically, give us the best price and we'll buy it without taking any of your time. Got a few emails back with "rock bottom" prices of 37600, 37700, etc and then this morning received an offer for the exact automobile, in stock (rare) and ready for delivery IF we purchased today, on 6/30 before month-end, for 35763 + 515 freight, saving about $2000. I think it was right place, right time of the month, lucky with inventory, but I highly encourage composing a direct paragraph about the car you're looking for, saving it in Word or something, and pasting it into the comments box on as many dealerships as you can. You never know what will come back...

See the raw government video footage of the side impact test....

See the "Safety Concern" they note in bold letters. Shame on Honda.

So, let me see, your wife gets hit driving it, she's ejected and killed....

If you don't skip this vehicle for that reason, you aren't human !

The original post is scary enough to make someone think twice like me as I am in the market to buy an Odyssey. However, I think readers need to know more before completely avoiding Odyssey just for this single reason. I believe there is more reason to avoid Sienna than Odyssey. Here is why:

I have looked at both Sienna and Odyssey crash test results in the NHTSA web site and yes it is true that Odyssey have this safety concern under side crash test that was performed. However, as pointed out previously that there would be no problem if the driver is wearing the seatbelt, and the side curtain airbags will be deployed from the door side, which will also prohibit someone from being ejected (this is my analysis). And if someone wants to avoid Odyssey only for this reason, that person should also look at all other crash test results, in which Odyssey has better numbers in all cases than Sienna. Some of Sienna's numbers are really scary, for example, in the side crash test result, the head injury criterion (HIC) for rear seat in Sienna is 550, which is almost times greater than that of Odyssey (150). One of the main reasons we buy a minivan is when we have kids, who usually ride in the rear seats. Therefore, this higher number in Sienna should also be considered when looking at the crash test results. Also, note that Sienna has a four star versus Odyssey that has a five star rating for frontal crash result for the driver side. Note that femur load is 829/774 in Sienna, which is only 367/753 in Odyssey.

Here is a (bit technical) web site that has more (general) information about crash tests:

    http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/regrev/evaluate/808061.html

I don't think it is right to scare people who is on the market to buy an Odyssey (just like me :) ). Hope this helps existing and future Odyssey owners.

I don't know of the other forums where the original message was posted, and I think a reply similar to mine should be posted there as well. Thanks.

I'm in the market for an EX (cloth) in Northern Virginia, and I'm astounded that you found a dealer to sell it to you for under invoice. The best I've been able to find in Northern Virginia is $26,489 (that includes a $289 processing fee). When you put your bids out, did you ask for $25800, or did you just ask for the best price they could offer?

    Thanks.

Norm Reeves Honda initially offered me $26681 but told me that they'll beat any lower offer I find...next day I got a quote from Power Honda for $26631 and he also mentioned in his email that he'll be willing to talk more if I am interested in purchasing within few days. I replied to him saying that I wanted the EX but my buget is 26K + taxes. He immediately replied to me quoting the vehicle for $26K. The only condition is I have to buy the vehicle the same weekend. I then called Norm Reeves and told the salesperson the low price I got from the other dealer.. and he reduced his quote to $25800 and it was lower than the invoice price. My wife and I figured that we can't possibly get a better price and so decided to go and purchase within couple of days. Hope this helps. Happy Hunting...!!

Well thank you to everyone who has posted your experiences on this site.
I just got home from purchasing our new 2005 Odyssey EX-L (No Nav or Res) my out the door price was $29,766. :D I faxed and or Emailed what I was looking for to 10 dealers with in 1 hour of my home. Best offer came from Fleet / Internet department at Lodi Honda, had the exact color I wanted (Slate Green w/ olive leather). The cost of the van was $27,249 + 100 for the cargo tray+ 2123 Tax + 295 for DMV-Docs-Tire fees. They sold me the van for around $700 less than Invoice.
This was the best car experience I have ever had. They even had a better rate than my Credit Union 3.9% If you live anywhere in Northern CA get an internet quote from Lodi Honda. My local Sacramento dealer wouldnt even touch their deal after I faxed them a copy.

Thanks again for all the stories and tips. If not for this site I would have probably paid $2500-$3000 more for the same van. :shades:

I'm not a salesperson. I'm in the market, trying to decide between odyssey, sienna and sequoia.

I can't find anyone (until the recent post), that can respond with any data or analysis that helps me feel comfortable buying the Odyssey, my preferred car.

Thank you for your post. I greatly appreciate it.

That said, even with a seatbelt, and given the enormous forces in a collision, I would think that your upper torso can still be torqued or thrusted out the door to a degree. I DO think this is a significant concern, and I'm delaying my purchase until I feel comfortable with this serious SAFETY CONCERN per the government. You don't get a SAFETY CONCERN unless it really does add risk.

To the rest of the readers, can someone else please share your thoughts on how to feel more comfortable with this ejection question. I'm trying to compare the rollover risk in the Sequoia to this ejection risk in the Odyssey. Quite frankly, the jury is out NHTSA has an article that shows the 4Runner as the safest vehicle based upon deaths per certain miles.

I think what shocks me the most, is you won't find any dicscussion about this except for my raising it.

In addition, I called Honda and asked them if they have addressed this and I never heard from anyone. Customer Service has no response. A case manager is supposed to get back to me, but so far, nothing.

Got Oceanmist Ex cloth from Honda of Essex,NJ for $27300 out of door including all-weather mats & wheel locks.

This color is cool and its really different.
  • premgpremg Member Posts: 2
I got the EX-L (no RES or NAV) for $28,600 which includes accessories worth around $500 (cargo tray, splash guards, wheel locks, tint, adl. cargo net, pin stripe, etc.). So the effective price for the car is around $150 over the invoice. I had a color and time constraint but I believe you can negotiate for $300 to $500 below the invoice in the DFW area if you are not in a hurry and open to any color. I went through the internet department of Bankston Honda in lewisville and the experience in general was good (took 10 min to make a deal). You can ask for Joe C and refer my name if you want (Prem). Happy Hunting!!

    yvqkck,

I just purchased an EX-L no RES or NAV for $28,349 before any fees or taxes in Southern CT. Dealer wouldn't budge on the holdback. I thought a fair price would be (Invoice price) + (Dest. charge) - incentives - holdback + ($300 to $500 for dealership):

    So,

    $27,434 +$515 - $0 -$563 +$500 = $27,886

I figure I got beat for about $463.

I purchased a Desert Rock EX-L-RES from Burnsville Honda for 30,800 (+ 70 doc fee + TTL) on 6/30/2005. I had an excellent experience working with the internet sales manager and with the dealer and I highly recommend both.

This price is up to 1,000 more than others have paid for this model. As I have experienced and as other posters have mentioned, Odyssey prices run high in Minneapolis. In fact, I think this is a good price from a Minneapolis dealer and it was convenient to buy a car within a few miles from home. I worked to find a better price from dealers in MN, WI, and IA. I contacted 14 dealers and received pricing from 10. Even dealers that others have had luck with (e.g. Honda Motorwerks in La Crosse) started out with a high "lowest possible offer" over 31,000 and were not willing to deal much. This was surprising. Many dealers that I talked to said that that they are selling the few EX-L-RES's they get without dealing much. Maybe demand vs.supply has changed in the last couple of months. I purposely waited to contact dealers until 6/27 in the hopes of finding a dealer willing to deal before month end. This may have contributed to Burnsville working with me on the price as they had a car in our color (Slate Green or Desert Rock) coming in on 6/29. But I wonder if it backfired with the other dealers - not a single one of which had a van coming in before the end of the month let alone one on the lot. It sounded like they sold quite a few the prior weekend.

Bought our silver EX-L (no RES/NAV) at Penske Honda in Indianapolis for invoice ($27949). Mudguards are also thrown in for free. did all negotiation with their internet sales through e-mails and phone calls. got there, no tricks. Color is what they promised, took a test drive, went through the finance guy (quickly rejected everything), they prepared the car and then I was out of there. The OTD price is $29740.02 (6% sales tax).

I had a wonderful experience. The information I got from this forum was extremely helpful in my decision making process. thank everybody here again for their posts and advice.

I was wondering if anyone thought the "employee discounts" now given to anyone for a GM and soon for FORD autos would affect any pricing with the Honda Oddyssey. Has anyone seen this or asked the dealer in their dealings?

Looks like GM and Ford and others will give their employee discounts to anyone through August. I was hoping maybe this might make Honda dealers more inclined to drop prices?
