Your first assumption won't work. Right now, inventories are down to almost nothing. A lot of demand and very few Odysseys. Very frustrating to buyers and sellers alike. Most of the Odysseys in the pipeline right now will be 2006 models.

Final price before TTL $26111. It was supposed to be $26000, but the salesman raised $200 when we sign, I was upset but we settled on 26111 with wheel locks.

Got ripped off on the 7yr/75k extended warranty though, the dealer sold it to me for $1800 before tax, and we bought it because we didn't know better. Anyway, I am cancelling it today and buy it again from an out of state dealer for $795 :)

I looked over that website for the "shopping spree" and it looks embarrassing. The products look cheap and they offer little to no decent products. I couldn't find 1 item that interested me. Honda should be embarrassed to be associated with this site.

With all the American companies selling below invoice plus giving incentives, can Honda and Toyota still fetch the near sticker price for their vehicles or will they be pressured into rebate city?

    Oh All Riiiight.

    Silver Pearl Mettalic EX-L-RES
    Mudguards
    Cargo Liner
    Pinstriping

    Base: $29,386.66 (Including Delivery Fee)
    Dealer Markup: $200
    Dealer Doc Fee: $69
    Georgia State Fee: $3.00
    Total: $29,658.66

After Texas TT&L, it came to $31,610.13.

So in the end, $272 over invoice, but that's not including the options or the $1000 internet shopping spree (which probably isn't worth the paper it's printed on).

The real frosting on the cake was that the dealer experience when I actually showed up couldn't have been better.

    Hi, Gypsy2,

I think you ask a great question. We just bought the 2005 EXL RES NAV. I was thinking along the same lines - we'll likely keep the car about 8 years.

I think buying a Honda in July - Sept. is a good strategy. We bought our accord (2002 EXL V6) the same way a few years ago, and paid a lot less than some friends who bought a 4 cyl a month earlier.

My thinking is this: With the model probably not changing a lot for 2006, why pay $3 or $4k more for a 2006.

The catch is, though, that inventories do appear low - especially for the RES/Nav combo.

I was lucky enough to find a delaer who was willing to sell $1,600 below the others, which made it a good deal. If I didn't find that one, I probably would've waited to see if prices dropped...

If the dealers around you have good web sites, you can check their inventories - that was helpful to me, so I was only negotiating with dealers that had the van I wanted.

Hey guys i've been looking for a black ex-l res in houston and there does not seem to be very many of these around. have you guys noticed this too? When will the 2006 models start rolling out?
  • alnooralnoor Member Posts: 7
That is a fantastic deal, especially that it included the accessories!!!

I wonder why they never offered me that deal?

It would have saved me some driving!

    Cheers,
    Al.

Could you tell me the dealer name ? I am also in the market for an EX with cloth. I think 27,400 out the door is good price.

    Thanks in advance.

I have also had the same question in mind and asked around. I completely agree with you. With completely redesigned 2005 Odyssey models, there will be no significant changes to the 2006 models (most likely - who knows what Honda has in mind). And, the selling price for the 2006 models will be sticker price or more for first several months (unless Toyota comes with a much better Sienna to compete with Odyssey). So, why pay $3K or $4K more.
  • roastboarroastboar Member Posts: 10
The Odyssey dealers in the Seattle area (Kirkland Honda, Bellevue Honda) don't seem to have any 2005 odyssey's. The ones that are on their lot are pre-sold; as a result they are able to demand a very high price. The best I've got is ~2K over invoice.

Does anyone have experience in this area recently? I'm prepared to go upto Oregon to get a good deal.

If I do land up buying, I'll post my experience.

    TIA,

I am also in the market for a 05 Ody, I have asked around here in OR and they are out of stock. The next shipment they are expecting is last week of July and continuing on through mid-August. Some of the arriving vehicles have already been pre-sold. I am wondering why Honda is not providing more vehicles. Would it be because Honda is getting ready to put the 06's in the market ?

If you're willing to travel, try Discovery Honda in Moses Lake, or Bob Hall Honda in Yakima. I'm picking up an EX-L from Discovery tomorrow. I know that Bob Hall has two EX-Ls and perhaps an EX too. Good luck!

Great story. Why did you pay Texas TTL when you purchased and live in Florida? Thanks for the clarification.
  • warhooverwarhoover Member Posts: 8
I'm in the military and a Texas state resident. Texas taxes on an Odyssey are %6.25 and the registration fees add up to less than $100. I think the yearly registration fee is around $50, which is reasonable compared to other states without income tax.

I'm not sure what Florida vehicle registration fees are, but I'm pretty sure the taxes are higher. I've even heard that individual counties can add a to new vehicle taxes, sometimes bringing them as high as 8%.

If anyone else knows more, feel free to share . . .

I'm in the market for an Odyssey and received a flyer in the mail from my local Honda dealer (Honda Cars of McKinney, TX - I purchased an Accord from them several years back). They are holding what they call a "Honda Preferred Customer Sale" for two days later this week. According to the flyer, "You can purchase any vehicle in stock for only $1.00 over invoice!" I checked their website and they have 18 Odyssey's in stock, and the Odyssey's are part of this deal. Does anyone have experience with this kind of promotion? Is there a catch?

    Thanks,

Anyone have a good recent buying experience for an EX-L, no NAV, no RES-with leather in the greater Chicago area? If it's a good deal, we'd be willing to drive an hour. And should we wait a few weeks--will they start discounting the 2005s more?

    warhoover,

I am a MIlitary non-resident living in Tampa Florida and it appears that your taxes in Texas are higher than what they are here...we pay 6% plus county tax...in my case $50 bucks (Hillsbourgh County)...the tag fees are a little more expensive...but a way to get around that is claim the military non-resident portion for the tags...all you need to do is present your military orders to any DMV location and you can save big time on the cost...I just did a tag transfer on my vehicle and it costs me about $40 bucks....and for a brand new tag it was around $110 bucks...but that was 3 years ago...where this state like to get you is when you want to title your out of state vehilce here...they want to charge you some dumb fee to do that...however, you do not have to tilte your vehilce here in Florida unless you want to...you can still get FLorida plates...but because you are Military you do not have to title your car here...the reason is if you only stay here for one tour...in my case 3 years...why would I pay to title here and then move out of state...this came directly from the police officer who works security at our DMV's here in Tampa....make sense? Hope So!!

About $31.8K out the door. Paid invoice ($27,434) + dest. ($515) + $1000 markup + tax + lic, and a few hundred for accessories at dealer cost (splash guards were free). Dealers in Puget Sound and the Eastside weren't willing to budge much from MSRP, so it was a great deal. I'd recommend buying from Discovery since they are willing to negotiate entirely online, and picking the Ody up took less than 2 hours with no additional pressure to buy extended warranties or anything else.

Any help would be appreciated. Looking at an Ody EX-L with RES. Would like white and so far the best price is $1000 under MSRP. I will be getting the 2005 and not waiting for the 2006 as I am more interested in getting the best price and not the newest model van.

    Can I do better?

    Thanks so much,

    DB,

I bought an EX at Dobbs Honda on Mendenhall in Memphis for $26.2K + TTL. That's about $2.2K below invoice. I have no doubt we could have done as well on an EX-L.

As for buying out of TN, you will likely be subject to state sales tax in the state in which you purchased it. TN will not charge TN sales tax if you can prove sales tax was paid at point of purchase. If it was not, TN will charge you TN sales tax of 7%, plus whatever fees Davidson Co. imposes.

    Hope this helps. MG

I live in Oregon too and don't waste your time.....or be prepared to give the dealer some xtra cash! I have been looking for 05 touring with dvd and NAV- I had to go out of state to get it- but $99 ticket to pick up and take a vacation to drive home is worth $35638 price. This is a good time to see america!

I got my EXL w/NAV & RES at Windy City Honda (very close to Midway Airport) going through their internet dealer dept. They were MUCH more aggressive than the other chicago area dealers that I contacted... They were honest and easy to work with...

Good luck. We've had ours 1 week and are loving it!

I helped my dad who is 80 years old shop for a new car and we found the Odyssey to be a wonderful car at a reasonable price (compared to Sienna). I used Edmunds to get a bid from the chosen dealer, John Elway, and the bid was competitive; 29,010 for EX with Leather and no DVD, plus about 300 dealer handling. Everything went well and the lady I talked to seemed nice, but I am very disappointed with her for tricking my dad into buying a $700 anti theft add on. I am still in the process of investigating the item she sold and plan to talk to her and the dealer. Unfortunately, my dad was unaware of what she was selling him, and didn't even know what he was buying. Mostly, she used scare tactics to sell this very expensive add on. I would appreciate any advice folks have to give me.

Today we got a Honda Accord EX-L RES at BreakAway Honda in Greenville, SC. A month ago I sent E-mail request directly to nearby dealers via their web site and through carsdirect.com and this dealer’s internet manager responded via E-mail as well as 4 others. But his quote was the lowest and I went to the dealership (where I had purchased an accord 4 years earlier) and we agreed on the price within 5 minutes.
The cost was $29500 including destination plus TTL ($350) for a total OTD price of $29850. Since the RES model was not available in their lot at that time it was ordered on 6/27 and it arrived on 7/17. I had chosen Ocean Mist metallic and signed the papers yesterday and went to collect the van today with my check for the total amount. But in the lot we saw a Midnight Blue Pearl that my wife liked very much and wanted it. All the salespeople were wonderful and agreed to tear up the previous day’s paperwork and do another set while we waited. We walked out an hour later with a new shiny model. I cannot say enough good things about this dealership. It was a very enjoyable experience compared to the other horror stories I read on this board.

The only problems I could foresee was that only 5 vans were delivered on the 17th and while we waited, a Redrock Pearl and Desert Rock metallic van as well as a white touring model was sold and 2 owners drove the vans away. I doubt that the Ocean Mist we exchanged will stay much longer in the dealership. These minivans go like hotcakes!!!

I finally wanted to thank all the members in this forum who posted their experiences that I could use to make an informed purchase.

    Hi Guys,

Just wanted to share my experience and price paid b/c this forum helped me so much. I compared the Ody to the Sienna like everyone else and really liked the Sienna just as much if not more than the Ody during the test drive/sales pitch.

THen I came home and looked at the true cost to own comparison here on Edmonds and the Ody did WAY better. That and the fact that I could get the ODY with more features for less money did it for me.

I got the 2005 Ody in Desert Rock Metallic for $28,848.84 plus sales tax, Tag, and a $299 admin fee. I am very pleased and hope that this info is helpful to someone.

We drove from Austin up to the DFW area to purchase our new Ody EX from Huggins Honda on 7/9. Unfortunately, none of our local Austin dealers were willing to negotiate much below MSRP. By going outside of our local market, we got off the lot just under $28K ($26129 selling price + 6.25% sales tax + title and license...no processing fee). That's basically invoice (including destination) + $248.

I sent e-mails and web requests out to around 40 dealers all over Texas and Oklahoma. Out of about 22 responses, I only found 6 dealers that would go sub-$27K on the same van. It came down to three dealers: Huggins, David McDavid, and Lute Riley. David McDavid didn't have the van in stock, and Lute Riley wouldn't provide details like VIN, color, OTD price, etc. in a timely manner. Huggins also has the President's Award, so I just felt like I would get the best experience there.

It truly was fabulous. I had everything taken care of via e-mail and fax on Friday, and spent less than one hour at the dealership taking delivery on Saturday morning. Bravo to the Internet Sales team at Huggins Honda for a pleasant and smooth transaction!

We are looking for an EX-L in Western PA. Any experiences with certain dealers? So far Honda in Greensburg has been the easiest with which to work. We are willing to travel to get a good deal (within reason). Does emailing the dealers get you a better price?

What are some prices people are paying in the area for an EX-L?

(Please don't use a lot of acronyms - we are new to the buying and message board experience)

    Thanks!

Just purchased a Touring with NAV/RES last night. Here was our approach. Visited local dealer for test drive and general vehicle information (GM, Toyota, Honda, DC). Settled on model, color and options. Of course by this time the local Honda dealer had ignored us twice and was more interested in financing vs. finding us the car we wanted. At this point we knew there was no way we would actually purchase there.

    1. Go to the honda.com and then automobiles and 'Locate Dealer' with your zip code. You should get ever Honda dealer within 100 miles or so. 2. Go through all dealers and link to their websites to determine which dealers post inventory and do not. 3. For the ones with inventory online find the ones that have the exact Odyssey for you (model, color, options). 4. Send all of them requests for quotes using the 'Request Quote' link on the Honda.com site -- Including non inventory dealers (The Honda.com link for a quote had a much faster response time vs. the dealers personal websites). 5. Wait for responses, phone calls. 6. Eliminate the no responses. 7. Once you have a few quotes - get a sense of where they are and play them off of each other. MAKE SURE NO 'DOCUMENTATION' or 'DEALER' fees exist - I didn't pay any and you shouldn't either. Just state fees to transfer the registration and a $2.50 messenger fee for postage or something like that. 8. Go pick up the vehicle. We started this email process yesterday at 9:15 AM, and received a few offers for the mid 36's for our model by 2:00 PM. However, these were not exact matches. Finally, one dealer that had the exact model and options came back at over 2,000 more than the mid 36 quotes at 2:30 PM. I thought, there is no way that they will deal - so I replied 'if you can beat 35,900 we can talk.' Five minutes later I received 'I can beat it'. We drove it home for 35,800 at 8:50 PM. I know that a few people have gotten this vehicle for 35,400 - but not in my area (South East PA), plus we got what we wanted for the trade, free wheel locks, etc... They did say that once the 2006 arrives in a few weeks, to expect about a $2,000 mark up for the short term. Also, they didn't know how I got a quote that low - 'shocked' to be exact. Believe me, they made money and always will make a lot of money off of us. Good luck.
  • vrmvrm Member Posts: 310
They did say that once the 2006 arrives in a few weeks, to expect about a $2,000 mark up for the short term.

Wow....a 2,000 markup?! This dealer must be very optimistic.
There are NO cosmetic or technical changes to the 2006 model.

Dealers always like to hype prices for the new model year. It is upto the consumer to nip this in the bud and stop this nonsense.
  • vrmvrm Member Posts: 310
If so, which model (2005 or 2006) one should pick given that it is meant for long term

You should buy the 2005 model during the Honda clearance event and save some green.

Your timing is good, the August clearance has started! Dealers are ready to wheel and deal!

    Folks:
I am looking for a dealer in the Northern Virginia/Maryland area. Any good dealer recommendation or price experience feedback would be appreaciated.

    Thanks!
  • odymikeodymike Member Posts: 23
Sure there is a lot of dealer hype - but the simple fact is this: a 2006 in August or September will cost more than a 2005 - given equal MSRP. You have to weigh the additional cost for the 2006 vs. the depreciation on a 2005. For us, we drive a lot of miles, so I would rather start out with a cushion of 'cheaper' miles on the 2005. We will keep this vehicle for 8 plus years - so the depreciation end doesn't really factor into the equation. JMHO

I followed the drill just like everyone else...Obtained quotes via the net... Quickly got onto an email channel with this salesperson at Loot. We agreed upon a price and he indicated he had the color in stock. He went to the extent of indicating in an email that the manager was ok with the proposed price. So, I fixed up an appointment with him and showed up a the dealership. Little did I know, that I wouldnt find the van of my specified color in the trim. The manager kept me waiting for a couple of hours. I thought it was the standard dealer wear-down tactic. When he finally showed up, he acted as if he didnt have any knowledge of what had transpired between the salesperson and me :( . To add insult to injury, the manager asked the salesman how old the quote was. I quickly pulled out a copy the email to which he had a surprised look as if he had never seen it. He said he would honor the price since the salesman had committed to it. But he said, I would have to take whatever van is on the lot and pay for all the add-ons on the van. Needless to say, he just killed the offer !! I asked him if he was expecting any Odysseys coming in. To this he replied that there were no more Odysseys left in the DFW metroplex (a blatant lie!!) and that the invoice on the 2005 Odysseys just went up. In short I felt he was politely telling me - Hey buddy I dont want to sell to you. With no choice I left the dealership  . At the point of exit the salesman tried to alleviate the manager's behavior by telling me that he would look through the other dealers" inventory and try to trade a van of my choice. He asked me to call him the next day. That was the last I heard from him. What a waste of time !! I recommend you my friends to boycott these losers !! :P

While I have not been to any of the dealers, I have received E-mail quotes from a number of them and Pohanka Honda in Salisbury MD provided the best quote on an EX by far. If you are looking for an LX good luck. I can not find one in stock anywhere.

I ended up paying what worked out to $200 below invoice at DCH Old Bridge. Pretty good experience overall. Inventories of EX-L seem to be low at dealers all across the region. The dealer had plenty of EX-cloth though.

What the American car companies do will have no effect on Honda and Toyota. The American car companies shoot themselves in the foot with there offers, and devalue the vehicles they have just sold. I saw a customer with a Buick Rendevous they pay $30K for a year ago which is worth $12.5 today.

I couldn't find any mention in this discussion board about buying in San Diego county, and nobody seems to be buying LX's either. Here is my experience.

I started out looking for a used low-mileage Ody, but the prices were so high, I decided to go with a new LX with no dealer-added accessories. The features I was most interested in were standard, namely the electronic stabilization control (new in 2005) and the other safety equipment, standard on all Ody models (except for the tire pressure feedback - I wish this had been an option on the LX).

First let me say that all the dealers had a $45 doc prep fee, so I don't have to bring that up again. I asked for quotes via the internet. The first quote I got was from Cush Honda for $1500 over invoice (invoice is $23,186 incl. destination) plus over $200 for dealer-added muguards and wheel locks, even though I didn't want them.

Poway Honda's e-mail didn't give me a quote. It said I would have to make an appointment. I decided not to call them.

I test drove an Odyssey at Hoehn Motors and later talked to the salesman by phone. I told him about the Cush offer. He said that he wasn't authorized to give me a definite price, that he would have to get approval from his supervisor after we agreed on a price. That's the type of negotiation I wanted to avoid. He asked if I would buy it for $1000 over invoice, then $750 over invoice. I told him I was looking for a price close to invoice. He said "you'll never get invoice. That's just not going to happen."

Then I asked for quotes (via internet) from a couple of dealers in southern Orange County. Family Honda didn't respond. Power Honda in Costa Mesa sent a quote of $750 over invoice. Then I got a call from Power Honda. They said no charge for mudguards or wheel locks. Plus they would pick me up and give me a ride to the dealership (at least an hour drive!). They had one LX in stock - in Sage Brush. I contacted Cush Honda again, and they said they couldn't match Power Honda, period. In fact, they couldn't come down from their initial offer unless I came in to the dealership.

Then I e-mailed Tipton Honda in El Cajon and asked if they could beat Power's offer. I got a phone call back from a salesman who said if I had the quote in writing or an e-mail (which I did), he would beat it by $400. And no charge for mudguards etc. They had one LX, silver.

Power Honda came back with an offer of $100 over invoice. Tipton said they would match it. But their shuttle service only goes 11 miles from the dealership. He said he would see if he could arrange a ride, but it would cost me (he didn't know how much) and he would call me the next morning. I went to a dealer that evening to see what Sage Brush looked like. I didn't really care for it, and I liked the silver. I called Tipton Honda the next morning. But I couldn't reach the salesman I had been dealing with. Finally I talked to another salesman, who said he would call me right back himself if the other salesman couldn't. But he didn't call back. I finally reached the original salesman after 1 p.m. (he had said he would call me that morning - I wondered if something funny was going on). He said he had been busy selling 3 cars. I asked him to add up all the charges and give me an OTD price. He hadn't done this yet, and I didn't want any surprises after I got there. He said first he wanted me to forward the other quote so he could show it to his manager. Then, before I had a chance to do that, he called back and said his manager told him the best he could do was $500 over invoice. Needless to say, I was not pleased and let him know it. He said the other dealer just wanted to get me to the dealership and then they would add extra charges.

I called Power Honda back and accepted their offer. Unfortunately, the LX had already been sold (the night before), but the salesman said he could trade with another dealer. He called back within 10 minutes and said he had found a silver LX. About 2 hours later, someone arrived to take me to the dealership (extremely interesting conversation for an hour and a half). Everything went smoothly, and there were no surprises. I paid by check. I declined the extended warranty offers. I couldn't have been happier with the service or the price.

Odyssey LX (with mud guards - no charge)
    Cash price: $23,286.00 (22,771+515 dest.)
    Doc prep fee: 45.00
    Sales tax: 1,808.15
    Lic & tire fees: 218.75
    TotaI price: $25,357.90

Postscript: I got a call later from Tipton Honda from a different salesman. He apologized for not getting back to me and said that my original salesman had quit. He asked if I was still interested and I said no (I was waiting for my ride to Power Honda when he called). This was yesterday. I got another call from Tipton today with the same story. Hmm...

Just shopped for Odysseys this past week in Eastern Pennsylvania (just north of Philadelphia). We're actually from VA and were in PA visiting. Here are our prices: Mike Piazza Honda in Langhorne: EX-L, package 7 (includes CD changer and DVD system): 31,000, plus tax and tags (NO processing fee, no freight costs, no additional dealer charges). At Keenan Honda in Doylestown, they went to 30,900, and we had a 30,875 offer from them via internet pricing. They also said that it would be only tax and tags above that (no additional dealer costs). When we called our local dealership in VA to compete, they flatly told us to buy the car in PA -- they wouldn't go below those prices.

Can anybody share names of good dealers along with the prices paid for 2005 odyssey EXL with Navi + RES in NJ, PA, NY area. My personal experience has not been good so far. Some dealers charge exhorbitantly high prices over invoice + destination + 1500 markup + taxes & title. This seems to be ridiculious given the fact that 2006 models are just right around the corner. I can understand the fact that, if dealership makes few hundred dollars above their invoice, But 1000 - 1500 above invoice is utterly nonsensical price. So if someone can share the price paid + dealership and the salesman name would greatly appreciate

Ok, I also posted this message on another board (the Sienna vs. Odyssey board), but I thought I'd post here are well to maximize my feedback. So here's my cut and pasted post:

As many others, we're currently torn between the 2005 Sienna and the 2005 Odyssey. Specifically, we're comparing the Sienna XLE, package # 7 (which includes the DVD and CD changer) with the Odyssey EX-L with the DVD (but NO navigation). My sister recently bought the 2005 Odyssey Touring, so we've driven the Odyssey more extensively than the Sienna, but we don't really notice a major handling difference. We're satisfied with how both cars drive (although I was slightly less comfortable in the Sienna's driver's seat -- shocking, given how adjustable both the seat and the steering wheel are -- you'd think I'd have been able to find a comfy position).

To us, the major differences are as follows: we'd get a potential 8th seat with the Odyssey. Yes, I recognize that it's a tight fit for 3 people, and probably not a very comfortable ride. We'd only use the seat for carpooling kids or taking short local drives (to restaurants or sightseeing locally) when we want to avoid having to take 2 cars and we're with another family or member of our own extensive family. Going into the search, we'd decided we wanted the 8th seat (not realizing we couldn't get it on the Sienna). You cannot get the XLE with an 8th seat (incidentally, you can't get the Touring model of the Odyssey with the 8th seat, either). And if you DO decide to get the LE with the 8th seat, you lose the captain's chairs (and have to special order to get the car with leather, since that model doesn't ordinarily come with leather). Aside from the 8th seat issue, the XLE Sienna will have a power tailgate, and the EX-L Odyssey won't. The XLE Sienna has pop-out third row windows, and the EX-L Odyssey windows don't do anything.

We shopped every dealer in the Philadelphia area to get prices and then called our local VA dealers to see the difference. Philadephia is cheaper -- our bottom line prices: Sienna XLE, package 7 = $32,000 (inclusive of all dealers costs -- we pay only tax and tags in addition to that price). Odyssey EX-L with DVD = $30,875. The Virginia dealers we talked to (and I talked to about 10 from each manufacturer) flatly told us they couldn't beat those prices and that we should buy the car in PA.

Given that we don't see much of a difference in the cars (we're neither Honda nor Toyota loyal), we'd probably go with the cheaper car (you should have a reason you'd want to pay about $1500 more for a car, right?). But here's the rub -- it's coming down to the dealership. Our driveway has a really steep grade, and the Honda Odyssey has a very low clearance. My sister, with the touring model, makes it up my driveway, but it's REALLY close. The Touring model has 17.5 inch wheels. The EX-L comes with 16 inch wheels. The PA dealership is bending over backwards to convince me it's the same clearance (they measured 6 points under the car, and took extensive time explaining things like "suspension drop" to me). They cannot, however, locate official information from Honda regarding the clearance difference (if any) between the two cars. So, the obvious thing we need to do to feel comfortable is to drive the EX-L up the driveway. While I was still away, my husband went to Pohanka Honda in Fredericksburg VA and asked to test drive an EX-L up our driveway (we live 13 miles from the dealership). Because I'd put a deposit (refundable) on a car in Philly, my husband felt compelled to tell the dealership that (believe me, I had a lot to say about his decision to do that, but it's all water under the bridge now). The dealership told him he couldn't test drive the car -- that all 4 Odysseys they currently had in stock had appointments to be test driven. HA. Right. I realize that this dealer knew the profit wasn't going to go into his own pocket, but you would hope (1) they would want to please us to get our service and (2) they would show a higher loyalty to corporate Honda -- after all, I'm sure their franchise agreement requires them to sell Honda cars, not to first ensure that the Honda profit goes into that particular dealership's pocket. And of course, there's the fact that if they gave us the lowest price we probably WOULD go with them -- most buyers, you would think, test drive the cars and then shop around to get the best possible price. We just happened to know that they couldn't beat the PA price in advance (still, I wouldn't have been quite as forthcoming as my husband -- don't get me started).

So here we are -- still not QUITE sure that the EX-L fits up our driveway, and pretty annoyed with the local dealership who would most conveniently service our car. The Toyota dealership here has been great (and is very conveniently located), but we'd still have to pay more for a car that, in the end doesn't really give us more. The salesperson sent my husband home with a Sienna and let him keep it at the house, try it up the driveway and in the garage. Ironic, really, since we were never really concerned about the Sienna clearance. But what good will that dealership has garnered, especially in light of how frustrated I am with Pohanka Honda.

Does anyone have any solid information about the Honda clearance -- touring model vs EX-L? There's another Honda dealership a little further from us that we could try to hit up for a test drive . . . And how annoyed would you have to be to pay $1500 more for a car (don't get me wrong, I really like the Sienna too, it's just a bit more expensive and I'm trying to rationalize that -- I'm pretty angry with Honda . . .but $1500 worth of angry? hmmmm) . . . .
