If you like Slate with Olive, buy it. Who cares what anybody else thinks? I own an R & N in that color. I like it.
  • ebykebyk Member Posts: 7
Did you have to wait as long before you obtained your van? The impression that I got from all dealerships were that this is the most sought after color so there is a terrible shortage for the choice.
  • kitty4kitty4 Member Posts: 2
That seems like a good price. Can you post the dealership that you were working with.

    Thanks
  • muddyriverduckmuddyriverduck Member Posts: 18
Took it off the showroom. I bought 3 months ago when there was a little better supply. I laughed when I read posts 3 and 4 months ago of people waiting until the end of the model year, when "prices are alot better", but now they can't get the van they want. I'm not necesarily talking about yourself, but there are people on this board who know who I'm talking about. :P

Just wanted to know where we can get cheap wood steering wheel to match the wood grain dash. What would be the price? The dealer charges about 500 dollars for the steering wheel and then an additional 100 dollar for fitting it.

Can somebody please tell me the invoice price on a 2005 Odyssey EX-L with Res?
    Thanks

    ebyk,

We were in no rush to get the van as we are expecting our third baby in November, so we waited about two months for this model and color (EX-L RES & NAV, Slate green/Olive). Within this time, we really thought about whether we will like this color or not, our other choice was the Silver pearl metallic, which is also very nice, but a very common color and has only grey interior, which we do not want as it is darker. We also liked the ivory color (for other exteriors), but it may be very hard to keep clean and would show dark spots clearly, and my wife wanted a ligher color, so we decided on the Slate green/Olive. Well, our van came to the dealer last weekend and we drove the van home yesterday. WE LOVE THE COLOR and the VAN :):):) ! We are very happy that we did not change our choice of color!!! I will post another message with the price (which you will probably envy a lot ;) ).

    Bought my Ody yesterday Congratulations!!

Please let me know the following:
-Which state did you buy this in?
-Do you feel the Van is too big and difficult to park? Are you happy with the turning radius?
  • mich_chowmich_chow Member Posts: 58
    Thanks!
    -- Indiana
-- It is a bigger vehicle, especially from the one that I have been driving (98 CR-V EX), but it is not difficult to park or maneuver. No complain about the turning radius. I do remember that I had to back up (and I love the rear camera!) once because I could not make a complete turn, but it is okay and I think the turning radius would be large for a larger van like this (or any other van, right?).
-- I am specially impressed how quiet and smooth the ride is -- may be it is just me -- but after reading so many posts that Ody is not smooth and quiet, I was expecting not so quieter and smoother ride, but I'll take it :) .

Yes, I am totally loving this van.

Was your price OTD? I thought invoice was 27434 for the EXL. Either way, great price! Thanks for the info!
  • looking4exllooking4exl Member Posts: 11
Did you have to pay destination? or was that included in the $27,898? Thanks!
  • aabbaabb Member Posts: 58
    My personal experience:
the 2005 Ody has a tighter turning radius than my 95 honda accord. I have a cul-de-sac(with cars parked in it) that I have to make a U turn on and Ody is easier to turn around than my accord. Also the tighter turning circle helps when reversing out of a parking spot. Having driven smaller cars before, I do have difficulty parking, especially since the vehicle is very wide, but that is just the nature of the beast. There is a specific manevure one has to do when parking to ensure that the vehicle is parallel to the parking spot, I am getting better every week.

Hi--Yes, this included the destination charge of $515.

    Of course they are listening.

You make it sound so simple and it isn't.

As an example, the 1999-2004 NAVI Odysseys weren't a huge seller. Most people had no use for a NAVI system it seemed.

For whatever reason, however, all of a sudden demand has SOARED for these! Once honda and the dealers realized this, it was too late to scramble up production on them! a lot of suppliers are involved etc. A lot of smart marketing people watch the trends and react accordingly but it's tough!

Then the car magazines and other reviewers com out with articles heaping praise on the new Odysseys and demand go's through the roof!

So, inventories suffer as Honda scrambles to increase production!

I guess this is a "good" problem to have but it's frustrating for everyone.

And, nobody is "flogging" customers with "ridiculous" prices either or this situation wouldn't exist! We wouldn't have empty lots if this were the case.

I just purchased a Redrock Pearl Touring Ody with RES & NAV from Honda of Mesa (Phoenix, AZ area). They price matched the lowest email offer @ $35.737 (dest charge included), with $189 doc fees, $660 tag fees (AZ is high), and $1305 for taxes. My taxes were lower because of my trade-in, they gave me "trade in" value (KBB/Edmunds) for my Accord after some negotiation :) . This is my second Honda purchase from this dealer, and both experiences have been good. I would highly recommend their internet dept. for any AZ Honda buyers.

Anyone notice that the '06 Odyssey is now listed on the Honda website?
  • christine6christine6 Member Posts: 5
This forum has been great! I am going to a dealership tonight after emailing dozens and I got a price of $25,369 for the Odyssey EX in Sage with Tan Interior - it includes everything, but tax & motor vehicle. Does this seem like a good price - it is the best I could find in my area (NJ - Northwest). Thanks for any help. - christine6

I bought car from a big Honda dealer from TX and
the Hondal EXL with Res at $30750 and
    the TTL was $182 and
Inventory tax at $63 (claimed to be the Inventory tax, is that ok ?)
    tax was $1921
    Total OTD=33,000

does that sound ok ? Everytime I question a charge, the dealer (not me but the dealer) was threatening to backout !!
  • crystaltodcrystaltod Member Posts: 16
I dont think that is a bad deal. Im in DFW and I paid 34,500 OTD for a EXL RESNAV.

I questioned the Inventory tax too, and was told that was required by the state of TX. Your numbers look pretty close to what I paid for TTL.

I had to drive 100 miles to get my ODY so Im happy and I LOVE the NAV!

I just left First Texas Honda Dealership in Austin TX and I had a surreal experience.
I offered to pay $29,000 for an EX with Leather in Black.
They offered me $8,300 for my 2002 Accord VP with 51K. since the car was coming next week they try to pressue me into putting a $1000 deposit and I was hesitating since I wanted to sleep over it plus I was trying to get clarification on some documentary fee of $50
The finance manager is pacing the hallway and finally comes into the room and starts yelling and basically telling us to leave if we don't want to put the deposit, I just got up and walked out the door. And then as I am in my car leaving the dealership, the sales person is telling me to ignore the finance manager and as he slips me his business card, the finance manager comes outside and starts yelling "don't come back"

I know honda is a popular brand but my question is are they doing such good business?
Has anyone had such an experience with any dealership?

I am actually quite amazed. Is this business as usual at honda or should I take action? if so what?

    Hi,

This seems to be a good deal.
Can you pls. give the name of dealership. I am planning to buy EX-L, RES, NAV before the end of this month.

Anyone else has gotten a better deal in the tri-state area recently ?

    Thanks

We bought the Odyssey 2005 EX tonight from Joyce Honda on Route 10 and it was $25,639 (sorry I had typed $25,369 in the first post!) and they only added tax and motor vehicle fees - they didn't charge us for doc fees! They would only give us that price on a white one and the Sage one that we took - I am not sure what deals they have on any touring or other models.
  • aliyaliy Member Posts: 14
Thank you for the information. $25639 is still a very good price for EX. I am interested in an EXL, will call Joyce Honda tomorrow.

After months of research on Edmunds (including lurking in these forums) and reading online mag reviews like C&D, we finally purchased our Odyssey. We narrowed the choices down to the Odyssey and Sienna since these two were the highest rated. The choices were further pared down to the Ody EX, EXL, Sienna XLE Package #3, and Package #6 to get true "apples to apples" comparisons.

The whole purchasing experience was quite painless. I sent out email blasts to Honda and Toyota dealerships within a 100 mile radius of Sacramento and told them I was looking to purchase either the Odyssey or Sienna, specifying exactly which trim and option packages we were interested in. BTW, the Honda website was extremely useful as it showed all dealerships within the 100 mile radius... the Toyota site sucked as it only showed the nearest 3 or 4 dealerships closest to me. I had to enter in different cities that get dealerships within 100 miles.

All of the Honda dealerships that replied quoted me between invoice to $1200 over invoice, while the Toyota dealerships where all at invoice minus the $750 rebate. We decided to go with the Odyssey from Elk Grove Honda since 1) they offered invoice price, and 2) the Odyssey was $2k cheaper than the Sienna. When we test drove the Odyssey, they did not have the silver EX in stock, but had one on order for 8/8 delivery. So we put a $1k deposit down on it. I've read on these forums that some people have said they did not get their deposits back from some dealerships when the deal or order fell through. However, in California all deposits are 100% refundable. I specifically asked the Internet Sales manager at Elk Grove Honda about this when we were filling out the paperwork, and she was absolutely up front and honest about it and said yes it was refundable for any reason (such as if I found a better deal elsewhere). Our Odyssey arrive 1 week early, and when went to pick it up all of the paperwork was ready and waiting for us to sign. I found the Internet sales staff at Elk Grove Honda to be very honest and pleasant to work with. Everything they promised was exactly what we received.

I'm in the process of ordering this car in Seattle. Delivery is likely around the 1st of the month. I'm paying $32,610 -- which I'm told is MSRP+Destination ($550) for a 2005 car.

So probably about $400 under MSRP for my 2006. Does all this jibe? Is this a good deal for Seattle?

Other dealers wanted this much or more for a 2005. Some said they could not even get a 2005. Others said they don't know the 2006 pricing yet.

I'd love to hear thoughts. Thanks!
  • muddyriverduckmuddyriverduck Member Posts: 18
2006 pricing is out. MSRP on an EXL-RES is $32,945.

what dealership did you purchase your van from. thanks
  • johnsp12johnsp12 Member Posts: 4
My wife and I are still debating about whether to buy a Sienna (LE w/ Pkg #6 or XLE w/ Pkg #3), or an Odyssey (likely an EX-L). For a purchase of an EX-L, we were quoted a price of $27,500 plus destination ($515), registration ($319), documentation fee ($199) and tax (6%). That price is right around invoice, and the manager was willing to possibly go about $250 below that to sell us one in stock. Does that price seem reasonable? Does their documentation fee sound reasonable?

Secondly, my wife is very interested in adding the Back-Up Sensors to this model (about $750 installed). Does anyone else have any experience in having this added to the EX?

    Thanks for your feedback.

I've seen this at several dealerships (Honda, Toyota, Pontiac). It is a sad but true event that happens at dealerships. I have a Honda dealer less than 5 miles from my house but I never buy there. Once the sales manager yelled at a salesperson in front of us when we asked for a discount on a Pilot. He said "I'm not discounting Pilots, then everyone would expect a discount". The yelling was totaly unnecessary. He could have just said no.

    Anyway, just find another dealer.....

I don't know how much doc fees are in NJ, but $199 is a lot. I paid $45 for my doc fees in Northern CA. The $27500 + 515 is about $100 over invoice, and if they go $250 lower, then it'll be a very good deal.

Both vans are good, and at invoice, the Odyssey will be ~$2k cheaper than the comparable Sienna.
  • dartanyandartanyan Member Posts: 10
I checked the 2006 models on the honda website.
I dont think there is any change, except the MSRPs; have gone up some, 2k on touring. However, I noticed the Horse Power is 244hp, 11hp less than the 2005.
I would understand if they get a better miledge accordingly, but the miledges are same.
    Anyone knows why?
  • kingoffighterskingoffighters Member Posts: 10
The lowered HP output from 255 to 244 is because the organization that measures such output has changed the way HP is measured so that consumers have a more unified comparison of HP output between different brands (such as Honda vs Toyota vs Chrysler). The engine has not changed at all, just the way HP is measured.

An analogy would be, your height didn't change, but a different yard stick is used to measure your height (maybe this is a poor analogy, I hope you understand what I am trying to say! :)

Hi. I am interested in 06 EXL w/ RES & NAV in SF bay area. I sent emails thru Honda web site and received a quote from Stevens Creek Honda for 34,810.00 Plus Tax/Licence. The price includes destination charge. This is 200 below MSRP. Seems a bit more than what I may be able to find else where. Anyone seen better quote around here. I am willing to drive upto 150 miles. May be even sacramanto...
  • aliyaliy Member Posts: 14
$27500 is the price I want for an EXL in NJ, but I have not been able to find a dealer to sell me at that price. Would you mind share with me which dealer it is? and send me an email on the name of the salemen who sold you the car? Thank you.

I have some dealers who would quote me a price + reg fee + tax, without paying any doc fee.
  • hesty21hesty21 Member Posts: 6
I was just quoted $27,900 out the door for the 2005 Odyssey EX here in Michigan.
  • whysterwhyster Member Posts: 14
    Hello herbpowell,
Great deal on your Odyssey. Thanks for sharing - I'm in the same boat except I'm comparing the EX to the LE with #6. Can you email me so I can chat with you offline about the salesperson you worked with and your decision process? Thanks.
  • hesty21hesty21 Member Posts: 6
Sorry, I am an amatuer at this site and just posted but also wanted to inquire about the $27,900 OTD for the 2005 EX. OK, good, bad, or could do better?

    Thanks!
  • johnsp12johnsp12 Member Posts: 4
I have not bought one yet, but I got the above quote from Route 22 Honda in Hillside, NJ.
  • mclarenrmclarenr Member Posts: 9
You can do better. I got my 05 EX (cloth) for $26750. MSRP for the vehicle at the time was $28510. I got Edmunds TMV+$500 for my trade in. No doubt I could have done even better if I had more patience, but at the end of the day it all boils down to demand in your area.

Shop around one or two more dealers and start off by offering them invoice price (somewhere around 25.5k I think. Please check!) to find out where the bottom line is.

    Hope this helps
  • mclarenrmclarenr Member Posts: 9
Oh, just realized that OTD means "out the door". I paid $26750+TTL...
  • mclarenrmclarenr Member Posts: 9
...and looking further up the page it seems that people in some parts of the country are getting the EX for invoice price. That would be about 1K less than I paid back in December...

Do you have a contact at Washington Honda, as i am shopping for an 06 and also looking for a good experience. Thanks!

When I bought my 05' EX here in SoCal in June, I paid $25800 + $45 doc fee + tax + ttl. The price was including dest fees and was about $100 less than Invoice. I had to drive about 35 miles from home but it was a sweet deal in comparison to other dealers closer to home who wouldn't come down from MSRP. I am enjoying my new Van.... fun to drive...!! :D
  • norcalhondanorcalhonda Member Posts: 2
Stevens Creek Honda is the closest to me, but their prices were much higher than other areas dealers. We recently bought an 05 EX-L for $27,888 from Marin Honda (about $50 under invoice). Marin Honda, Livermore Honda, and Dublin Honda had the lowest price quotes when we purchased in June.
