I was actually at HondaMOG last Saturday and they only had two 2005's left instock one EX-L w/o anything and one EX-L w/ RES. The posted prices at the dealership (before negotiating) for the EX-L was 31,999 (I believe) and for the EX-L w/ RES was 34,999 (again, I believe...going on memory here). They are selling them as used buy they are Honda certified and only have about 10 miles or so on them. Also, they were there on Saturday (1/27) but I don't know if they've sold by now.

don't get too caught up in the vcm "hype", you might get 2-3 more mpg on the highway but is it worth the substantial initial extra cost not to mention potential mechanical problems with it later on?
  • shangydshangyd Member Posts: 25
Thanks! Petras2. Your got a good deal. But I wonder if I could get a LX at invoice or under. LX is definitely enough for me but it may difficult to get.
  • msargentmsargent Member Posts: 2
Spreen Honda (Loma Linda, CA) has quoted an internet price of $29,390 "Price Includes Destination Fees". Can anyone do better within the general LA - San Diego area? Also, has anyone worked with Spreen?
  • samba2samba2 Member Posts: 38
Pedras has made me think about LX and EX as well.

I have been tracking only EX-L, EX-L RES & EX-L RES & NAV prices. But now I need to take a better look at LX & EX as well. I have not seen many price quotes on LX & EX.

Could everyone on this forum and who has these price quotes post them please(even if you have posted them in the past)....would help a lot. Thanks a lot

best time for a better deal seems to be close to the end of the month, preferably on a rainy day when things are slow...good luck in your search...as far as my deal, i was lucky in that the dealer had an arrangement with my employer so there was no haggling involved, very painless

Just purchased a 06 EX-L, paid 28,450. Thought I got a good deal, but after reading some of these postings realize that I probaly could have got it a little cheaper. How did I do?
  • bigcat007bigcat007 Member Posts: 21
Try on last day of month. We purchased on December 31st EX with floor mats & mudguards for $25,350 including destination + 200 Processing Fee + TTL from Sheehy Honda in Alexandria, VA.
They tried to sell us EX-L for $27,100 which we didnot want due to variable cylinders after reading this forum.
Ask for LX then they will give good deal for EX.
Washington DC area dealers were selling for Invoice+500-1000 in November 2005. But market has cooled after December 20 afterward. Highend models like EXL+RES+GPS or Touring, they were selling $1500 below invoice in last week of December.
  • shangydshangyd Member Posts: 25
Your EX is about 550 under invoice if including processing fee, which is really good deal. Did you see any LX around and how about the price for that? I will definitely try Sheehy Honda. Thanks!

My base price in Dec at Mike Pruitt Honda for an EXL with Nav and DVD was $30,600 including destination.
  • a4b5a4b5 Member Posts: 17
That's about the best price that I've been quoted in MN for an EX-L ($28,500). The model must be more popular in some areas than others, which is why some people are getting such good prices.

    Where are you located?
  • gogolf1972gogolf1972 Member Posts: 4
After requesting internet quotes from ten dealers in our area about eight responded and we purchased our Ody for $29,000 at Herb Chambers Honda in Seekonk. Their price was four hundred dollars lower than then next lowest price. It was a great no pressure, no games environment. They gave us a fair price for our trade in and there were no hidden fees or gimmicks. I would recommend them to all my family and friends.

Jep3 could you mention your dealership and location from where you got your deal.
  • samba2samba2 Member Posts: 38
    happyodyowner,

What was the fee. Please give you price including doc fees and destinations. There was a earlier quote that I am tracking for below price from the same dealership as yours
31,173 Cleaveland OH - Mike Pruitt Honda. So you are saying you got one for 30,600.

LOOKS LIKE THE SAME DEALERSHIP IS GIVING A BETTER DEAL.

LOOKS LIKE MIKE PRUITT HONDA IN CLEAVELAND, OH IS GIVING BETTER DEALS THAN CRYSTAL LAKE HONDA FROM CHICAGO.

BELOW ARE PRICES FOR EX-L RES & NAV

    you emailed ten dealers????

    wow.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Sending ten emails seeking price quotes should be about the bare minimum for anyone truly interested in a good price.
  • eln001eln001 Member Posts: 32
At first glance, it appears that Mike Pruitt of Ohio has better deals than CRYSTAL LAKE of CHICAGO. However, a closer look reveals that Mike Pruitt may have had the lowest price for an individual purchase by 72 dollars; but the Crystal Lake is still the winner for the lowest average price per customer. The Crystal Lake's individual sale prices are 30,673.24 and 30,980. Mike Pruitt's individual sale prices are 30,600 and 31,173.
I would advise any shopper to give Crystal Lake the chance to meet or beat any legitimate price. I am sure that they will beat mike Pruitt and the customer will win.

    My zip is 19464.
  • samba2samba2 Member Posts: 38
This is amazing. See how the price changes with change in zip code on carsdirect.com

    Zip 19464(POTTSTOWN, PA) - $31,973
    Zip 60014(Chicago) - $32,473
    Zip 47201(Columbus,IN) - $33,473

It looks like PA dealer are able to sell the van at the best price. Anyone who has brought vehicles from PA...would like to know the price.

Columbus, Indiana has only one Honda dealership so looks like they want to sell at any price....but Indianapolis is only 40 miles away and so is Cincinnati & Louisville. Thy won't sell much vans if customes are smart enough.

I think edmunds should advertise these forums on TV and Press. Customers would save a lot of money. Had I known about this forum from edmunds, I would have save $750 or more my may camry purchase in Jan of 2004.

    Viva Edmunds for the forums.

Edmunds still needs to revise its TMV as they seem to be toooo high. They should give us the average and then the low and high values as well.
  • vaguy2vaguy2 Member Posts: 1
Bought an EX-L w/NAV and RES today, no extras (no paint protection, undercoat, or other accessories). Sticker was $35145 just like on honda.com's website. Carsdirect had quoted me $34145 for my zip which was ridiculous. I had read in this forum how Northern Virginia/DC Area Honda dealers were pretty bad so I got an e-mail quote from Brown's Honda in Charlottesville, VA (about 2 hours away) for $33448. Walked into Fairfax Honda to do a testdrive, not planning on buying from them but after test drive showed them the TMV from Edmunds and said I'll pay this and buy it on the spot, guy said no problem. So I got $32853 + TTL.

From the Sienna vs. Odyssey forums people commented that one could easily get a good deal on a Sienna but not so much on the Odyssey in the DC Metro area - I have some ideas why. A) There is a CarMax in Laurel Maryland that is a new car Toyota dealer and has good prices on-line. Example a 2006 Sienna XLE Limited FWD at 35568 with an option package that Edmunds says invoices at 35757. Anyone shopping for a Toyota would walk into a dealer with those prices and what's the other dealer to do. B) Walked into the Toyota Dealership today - there were 2 families there looking at cars. Went to the Honda dealership and the place was swarmed. So demand for Hondas in general much higher than Toyotas based on this one data point.

Had I taken a different tactic I probably could have ended up at less than TMV but prior to going to the dealer to testdrive I decided that I would take TMV and be happy and so I got it and I'm happy :). I did not send out e-mails to all the local dealers, I did not try to play one dealer against the other, I had a price I would accept, walked in and got it.

Why should anyone travel from Chicago to PA to save a couple hundred bucks and alot of fatigue.

it makes no sense to me
  • shangydshangyd Member Posts: 25
You do know that it only take several hours drive from Chicago to PA, right? Sometimes you could easily save 1000-2000 for that trip. Most important, the Internet department of some dealership from remote states are much better than your local ones and are proved by many ppl here.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
I am always just amazed at the trouble and psin some people will put themselves through just to "save" or try to save a lousy buck...sorry.

And then they complain about the treatment they received when they got to the store with the "best" price!
  • a4b5a4b5 Member Posts: 17
I agree 100%. I'm here just to get an idea of what I might expect to pay, not to find the one dealer in the country that has the cheapest prices.

You need to consider what your time is worth ... in my case, no way will I drive from the Twin Cities to Chicago to save $1000. A 6 hour drive both ways means that I'd be saving $83 for each hour in the car, which isn't worth it in my mind. Not to mention the additional miles I'd put on the car getting to / from the dealer.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
It really isn't. There are some people who just can't bear the thought that someone else just may have paid less than they did.

And, I have to really bite my tongue when I read some of these "Prices Paid" that I know just didn't happen.

    Life is short...

I'm not sure if you were writing in response to my posting, but for me it was no trouble to email ten dealers within a fifty mile radius and simply take the best price and buy the van. I did not play any dealer against each other and the service was great. I assume that most people are here trying to get the best deal they possibly can get. The dealerships are certainly trying to make the most money that they can make off the customers. The price difference between the various quotes that I received was nearly $2000. That may not matter to some people here but for the working class guy like me $2000 is a lot of money.
  • armand1armand1 Member Posts: 9
I disagree, with isellhondas. Sounds like you are a dealership that is feeling pinched by competition. Everyone is different and value their time differently. I live in DC and saved $2000+ (compared to the Edmund's TMV)just by sending 7 emails and 3 phone calls. I was ready to drive several hours but didn't have to, my local dealer matched the out of state price. In my case it truly happened. Thanks to Edmunds and everyone who post their prices, competition is truly working here.
  • wwdcatcwwdcatc Member Posts: 35
I was the one with the quote for $29,478; I back out and did more research. I too found Mike Pruitt Honda. He gave a quote of $30,743 for EX-L with RES/Nav. We are signing the papers today. Out the door without my Virginia state tax was $30,868. Great to work with. He has two more Odyssey left. Also, it was only $300 to ship from Ohio to Virginia. With the $31,xxx price, I still save over $2000 from DC/MD/VA prices. Actually, some still pay full MSRP price here in this area.

Also, the internet manager says they have about 80 different Odyssey models now...so I'm sure he is willing to cut you a great deal like mine.
  • thebillthebill Member Posts: 194
    thank you
  • thebillthebill Member Posts: 194
I understand. If you read the posts above you will see that not everyone agrees that driving many hours to buy a van just to save around a few dollars a month is not worth it.

Even as a salesperson, I am working class too. Remember, middle class is now alot more populated than it used to be.

I would just rather recieve better treatment and prices at the nearest service center to where I live or work. It all evens out in the end.
  • thebillthebill Member Posts: 194
Maybe I am misunderstanding you, but why would you back out of a deal just to pay more at another dealership?
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
    "Actual transaction price data"

I'm just curious where you get these numbers. I don't think dealerships devulge these numbers and I think if the buyers were polled, most people either wouldn't know or they would say "none of your business". I know that would be my reaction if asked.

I get these TMV printouts waved in my face pretty often. Usually they are fairly accurate sometimes not.

But, people are funny...they still want to pay less! They will tell me..." that's an AVERAGE"...I don't want to pay what the average person pays!"

    Anyway...carry on...
  • samba2samba2 Member Posts: 38
    Thanks wwdcatc....

I know you backed out because that was a fake quote.

Here are the new prices on the EX-L RES&NAV.
    32,073 Atlanta
32,029 NJ - FREE All weather floor mats
31,173 Cleaveland OH - Mike Pruitt Honda
31,120 Ohio - Honda of Mentor
31,037 Chicago - Crystal Lake Honda
30,868 Cleaveland OH - Mike Pruitt Honda
30,729 Chicago - Crystal Lake Honda
30,600 Cleaveland OH - Mike Pruitt Honda

Looks like Mike Pruitt Honda from Cleavland and Crystal Lake Honda from Chicago stand out.

To some people who say that the best quote is not important...all I have to say is I respect your opinion. But please donot critize others who are. I think this forum has helped a lot of people.

Competion is a good thing. Pleople say a lot of things anout Wal-mart, but believe me if Wal-mart comes into the new car market and started selling new cars at fixed cost you would see a lot of things change in this country. All the dealers will have to get their act together.
  • samba2samba2 Member Posts: 38
REMEMBER : As this forum is open to buyers it is also open to dealers who don't want you to go to another city and buy cars...they could go out of business if all buyers have access to this forum....

They could be making some of the posts that you see out here. My advice to them....best way to win the competion....get competetive. If our local dealers give a good price we will advertise them to the forum and you could also get out of state business....

    to thebill,

To answer your question, after all the fees associated with teh $29,478.00, the total was $30,572 + dealer options I did not need (strips, mud guard, undercoating, etc). My total would have been in the mid $31,000's. In addition, to ship it here, it would have been $1200. To ship from Akron, OH, it was only $300. So total price for me was $31,200, not including my state tax of Virginia. So all in all, I save more here.

I did get a better deal at Crystal Lake Ill ($30,678), but shipping was more as well.
  • samba2samba2 Member Posts: 38
    wwdcatc,

    Just needed a clarification.

When you say the Crystal Lake deal was 30,678...I am assuming it is including the $550 that Honda would charge the dealers as destination charges. What you are paying as shipping is in addition to that to get to your place
    OR
Does the price of purchase from Crystal Lake = 30,678 + 550.

    Thanks in advance.
  • wwdcatcwwdcatc Member Posts: 35
Crystal Lake was $30,678 including destination charges, not including temp. tags and doc fees. I think the total was about $30,8xx. Shipping was about $600 - 1000 from different auto shippers from Ill. to Virginia. Mike Pruitt Honda sold the car for about $100 more, but shipping was $300 less. Doing all the math, I think I saved about $200 from buying in Akron, OH than Crystal Lake, Ill. Plus it is closer and I will get the vehicle a few days earlier.

Overall, both dealership had excellent customer service. Both return phone calls quickly and both were willing to deal, not like the sales associates here in VA/MD/DC area.
  • samba2samba2 Member Posts: 38
    wwdcatc Thank-you.

Akron, OH is 323 miles from my place and Illinois is around 250. I could drive to either place to get the vehicle. If they are both equally good then the price will be the deciding factor.

I am still going to do the due deligence and look at the Toyota Siena and the Kia Sedona before I make the final decision. You never know what you may find...
  • samba2samba2 Member Posts: 38

Where did you buy this LX from. The local dealer here has a price of 23,900 on sale for LX without any negociations either. Can we get LX 23,361(invoice) or lower.
  • rcheng99rcheng99 Member Posts: 2
I am just amazed that some of you are getting your vehicles at such great prices. They just seem too good to be true. Even with the dealer holdbacks, it does not appear the dealers are making any profit. I am in the market for an EXL w/ Nav & Res, I will give these midwest dealers a try. But the devil's advocate in me is questioning the legitimacy of some of these deals.

i bought mine in louisville,ky. on dec.31, does the 23.9k price you have include all fees except for taxes? my price of 24k included all fees and a protection package including mud guards, trim, cargo liner and other dealer installed extras...if so then it is probably a pretty good deal, i don't really know if you can do much better price wise, although if the van you're looking at doesn't include the dealer extras, you might be able to get some of them for no extra charge...
  • samba2samba2 Member Posts: 38
    Petras2,

I did not talk to the dealer about price at all. I was there to look at the VAN with my wife and just get a feel for it. 23.9k was the tag they had.

Where in Louisville did you buy yours from. I am only 70 miles from Louisville.

Earlier in the forum there was a person who brought a EX from
Louisville KY Sam Swope Honda --> EX 25,500

May be Sam Swope Honda is the next Crystal Lake or Mike Purit or the Midwest...
  • samba2samba2 Member Posts: 38
A friend of mine mentioned that the Odyssey & Siena prices are slowly coming down after the launch of the new Kia Sedona.

Kia dealers are going agressive and pricing the new van below invoice and the Honda & Toyota dealers are competing and trying to keep customers from buying Kia's

Does anyone know about this trend...
