    Hi Everyone,

I got a quote of 22860 + fees for an LX in the bay area with the standard options only. Does it look reasonable ?

    Thanks,

I bought an EX in Dallas on Saturday - see my post #12226. I had 9 quotes via email that were all basically the same. My approach was to call my dealer of preference (the closest one to my house) and tell them where they stood relative to the other quotes, and I told them I would buy today if they could meet my price of X (we had flexibility on delivery time and color). The first dealer I called didn't, and the second dealer I called did. Yes, I believe you can negotiate - I doubt they emailed you with their best and final offer.

Came home yesterday with an EX-L from Tempe Honda. Price was $28258 (invoice) and OTD was $31410. Taxes, registration, and doc fees are high here in AZ. That did include splash guards, door edge guards, and window tint. No trade. We had already test driven at Honda Cars of Mesa, which also treated us exceptionally well. They had given us a nearly identical offer but when it came time to decide they didn't have the car in stock, and we decided not to wait. After test driving and making up our minds what we wanted, we emailed six dealers and after some persistence got four legitimate offers. We dealt with them completely by phone and email, and only spent about 1-1/2 hours at the dealer doing a final test drive, paperwork, and making sure we knew how to operate the features. Excellent experience. Lot's of Odysseys to choose from right now in AZ. Thanks to all the other posters who helped us make informed negotiations :) .

    thanks, zebra5.
So far, the quote difference between the highest and the lowest is about $1000. I would visit the lowest one first and see what they can do. btw, there is one dealer that says they will beat other's offer by $100. Their OTD quote is $636 more than the lowest OTD. Do you think they will still do the business by beating that by $100?
  • zebra5zebra5 Member Posts: 47
I think there is a good chance they will, if the price you're targeting is above invoice less the holdback.

I had a similar promise from the dealer I purchased from "to beat - not just meet - the lowest offered price." With that in hand, I decided to visit them only after I first visited the dealer closest to my house. I think doing that gave more credence to my discussions with the second dealer, since I had maintained I would purchase that day only if I could meet my price target (which was $500 lower than my lowest email quote, and to match my trade-in offer I'd received from Carmax). Otherwise I was willing to wait. I suspect in a market with lots of Honda competition, they'd rather not see you walk off the lot.

Good luck, and send me half the money you save.

Don't spend more than one miniute "negatiating" for $100 on a $30,000 vehicle. :confuse:

Well, my wife and I - faced with a $2,200 repair bill on her '98 Malibu - are going to go hunting for an Ody this evening. We're going to look for a Touring with RES/Nav, in green, and we've got a AAA certificate that's supposed to guarantee $1,000 below MSRP at Bill Page Honda in Falls Church, VA. Does anyone have any experience with that dealership? Does anyone think we can do better on the price without going out of Northern VA?
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
You can do much better than $1000 off MSRP although you may have to go outside of Northern VA. There have been some recent reports of good prices in PA. The same vehicle is readily available in Ohio (and elsewhere) for about $3500 less than you're talking about.
  • loncrayloncray Member Posts: 301
Well, I discovered that the $1000 off MSRP was no good on my own while gathering internet quotes. We ended up getting it for $36,844 plus taxes/title/etc - that's for the Touring with RES/Navi in the color we wanted. We got it from Hendrick Honda in Woodbridge, VA. The deal was fairly quick and mostly painless. We left the van at the dealership to get fully cleaned up and get the paint sealant package (I know, I know, but my wife wanted it) installed. We pick it up tonight. It did NOT have the humming sound complained about in several Ody threads. I'll report on the ownership experience more thoroughly later - we're driving to Delaware tmw for Easter and will be playing with our new Ody the whole way.

Just bought a Silver Pearl EXL w/RES & NAVI for $32000 in PA. Gave me Kelly Blue Book "excellent" trade-in value for my Accord.

As far as the humming is concerned, we didn't notice the noise during a 1/2 hour test drive. Low and behold while driving home from the dealship, the humming noise appeared at 2000 rpm.

I'm too impressed with the vehicle right now to get upset. Probably will join the complainers shortly.

I think it is my turn to return the favor. I live in sunny Southern California, LA County. I have been watching this forum for a long time.
I picked up my Odyssey last Monday and share it with you all.
Ok, here my story goes. I won’t make all the details.

First I went to Honda website and requested quotes for EXL R/N from all 50 dealers in So. CA. They were exactly 50 within 100 miles radius.

Second, I got about 45 quotes, and picked the best quote (It was $31500 including only destination).

Third, To make deal simple, I estimated the total out the door price $34,098($31500 + 8.25%tax, did not add any other fees)

Fourth, I emailed them back saying that I want to pay OTD $34,000 for silver EXL R/N.
No games, No surprises. Whoever takes my offer first, I will be there it next day …… something like this…… Actually at first, I got greedy, and added a bunch of accessories ($2000 worth), then later I removed all the big ones.

Fifth, most of them emailed me back and could not do it. Some gave me their best offers. They said the number is unrealistic, but I just need one…. Fladeboe Honda, Irvine emailed me back and said they would do it, but they have to do dealer exchange for Silver color.

Sixth, I made one mistake here. I thought the deal has been already finished and sent them all the financial info. Salesman called me back and said it will cost $400 more, because the exchange will cost them $400. I would not know that is the truth or not. I think he knew that they got the best deal and could get more but it was still better than other dealers.

Final OTD price was $34400 with Mudguards, Cargo tray, wheel locks.
I think this method really work! You calculate the best deal, and let them compete.
You don’t have to go back and forth between two dealers.
It just took me 3 day to set the deal; 1. Request Quotes 2. Send my offer 3. Pick up
Of course, sending 50 emails twice was not easy, but it definitely worth it.
    Good luck on your purchase!

I will be buying the Ex-L in the next 3-4 months. It appears the prices are extremely high around the greater Pudget Sound area. What is a reasonable price to pay for a no frills EX-L. I've seen the prices bordering on 40k. The least I've seen is 33k. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, along with any dealer recommendations.

    dartanyan,
Congratulations on your pick-up. Did you ever try and get a hold of Sprren Honda?

Just purchased an EX-L w DVD + RES at Lynnwood Honda for $32,561 + title/tax/license. I also got the cross bars for roof rack for $239 bringing the total to $32,800.

Earlier in the day, I walked out of Honda Seattle when they wouldn't go below $32,600. They were the first stop with most limited selection but were nice to deal with. Their first quote was $32,770 over the Internet. I'd do business with them again.

Second stop was Honda Bellevue - they pull the "we don't quote prices over the phone but will match any price" So, when I presented them with an opportunity to beat $32,600, they wouldn't do it. Their sales tactics were amateur - refusing to counter my offer, asking where I got "that" price, etc.... Gladly walked out of that store - after wasting 1 hour. So much for matching any price. I wouldn't waste my time with these guys in the future.

Lynnwood was very cool. Simply told them on the phone they had to beat $32,600 - they called back within 5 minutes and agreed. Paperwork was nearly complete upon arrival and we were out of there with van in about an hour...still had to listen to the "how about paint protection scheme" pitch but they were respectful when I declined all options. No hassle at Lynnwood. Good Experience.

All in all, you might be able to get an EX-L w/ DVD + NAV in Seattle for a little less but I'd be surprised if you can get one for under $32,000.

    Best of luck!

A good offer on a no frills EX-L Odyssey would be somewhere around $28,650. This is $400 above invoice. No Navi, no DVD, the basic EX with Leather package.

No way should you pay anywhere near $33K for that. Heck, I paid under $32K for my EX-L Res&Nav (okay $31,998, but hey, it's under $32K ;) ). You will probably strike a deal somewhere just below $29K for a "no frills EX-L".

I appreciate any input. I'm in the Chicago area. First dealer quoted $25,500. Is that a decent number? If I remember, that is less than invoice at Edmund's.
  • pusterracingpusterracing Member Posts: 186
$25,500 is a decent number, make sure they have added the destination charges, etc. If they have, I'd say go for it, it's about $600 below posted invoice.

    Hi,

I'm in the market for a minivan and pretty much narrowed it down to the Odyssey.

Below is a quote that I've received from a dealer in Northern Virginia:

EX-L with DVD - 28756 + other fees (tag, tax, freght, etc..)

    Is that a decent quote?
Also, are there any additional options that's considered as "must/nice" have???? Such as, cargo tray, mud guard, cross bar for roof, etc....?

    Appreciate any feedback
  • huskyfan2huskyfan2 Member Posts: 11
Just picked up our EX-L w/ RES. Added mud flaps, wheel locks and rear cargo tray. $30,400 OTD including these options, 3% tax, doc etc.

Basically them down to $29,100 (excluding tax and tags)and before adding cargo tray and mud flaps. Was able to have them waive doc and destination.

I started by calling the AAA car buying service. Used this as the low # and only one dealer could beat it. I went with them. Very quick and painless. Did have to fight off the attempts of the "closer" to try to sell me extended warranty, fabric protection, lojack, etc. Passed on them all.
  • huskyfan2huskyfan2 Member Posts: 11
    gohung,

Tough to comment on this price. I would get their total OTD price including tax/tags and then re-post.

We were van shopping last night, and had a Honda dealer in the Dallas area try to keep us from leaving by offering us a 2006 Odyssey EX-L w/DVD and Navigation for the MSRP of a regular EX,$28,945. This is a lot more than we were looking to spend, as we originally set out to find an 04 Odyssey, so we felt like we could not commit to that much on the spot. Did we screw up? Judging from the posts I've read in this forum, it just seems like there's no way he would make that deal, as the invoice on the van in question should be about $31673, I think.
Does anyone have enough knowledge of Honda dealers to know if that deal is even possible?
  • pusterracingpusterracing Member Posts: 186
WOW $28,945 for an EX-L R&N, I would have been all over that like.......well, let's just say, I would have snatched that puppy up. Made them stick to the deal if possible.

I paid $31,998 for mine and think I got a pretty good deal, some have gotten better, some worse. So you're talking $3000 then than I paid for mine...or better yet......$6200 off MSRP.

But you're right.....that does like either the van has already been involved in an accident and repaired....or the deal is just too good to be true. If it were DC, Ford, GM I might believe they could do it, but I don't think I've ever heard of Honda or Toyota going that far below invoice.
  • sirius2sirius2 Member Posts: 43
probably what they call a "lowball" number. If you wouldn't buy at that price then they're hoping you'll come back again and not buy somewhere else.
  • jojomonjojomon Member Posts: 1
i just bought a 2006 odyssey ex at cary auto park in nc for less than $24,000.
i was talking to the internet guy and he quoted me around $29,000 , but when i went to dealer they offered 26, but brought them down to 24, total price.
    check them out.
you can get a lx fo less than $20,000.
  • mannydommannydom Member Posts: 50
What is contained in a "OTD price?" Please itemize.
  • blackexv6blackexv6 Member Posts: 503
There is no way you can buy a brand new '06 EX-L w/NAVI & RES for $29k. The dealer is probably baiting you for a switch. He problably meant a plain EX-L or maybe with RES or wants $3k down.

That deal is absurd. Ask another dealer to match it. Most have price matching guarantees.
  • thegovthegov Member Posts: 4
Laff66, I too am in Dallas looking for an Odyssey. Please post the dealer you were at. Maybe they are at least trying to hit some goals and used that price to lure you back in? They might be a great place to go and work a deal out. Let us know.

How did you make them go to 24?

    Is the delivery included?

    Hi Everyone:
Looking for a 2006 Odessey EXL with RES and NAV (Color Silver Pearl) in the San Diego area.
What is the best Out the Door price?
    Thank you
  • zebra5zebra5 Member Posts: 47
$24,000 for a new EX cloth? That's $1,000 less than the best price I've seen on this forum ($25,000 on 3/31/2006). Even with the holdback factored in, the dealer took a loss of $1000 to $1500.

    What's your secret?

Live in New York area (Westchester/Putnam County). Looking for feedback (price, availability etc) from anyone who may have purchased an EXL in our area. Any dealers to point us towards or to avoid? Interested in buying car via email/online. Not sure how to go about it. Would appreciate any advice.
  • laff66laff66 Member Posts: 8
No, he meant an EX since we very specifically discussed the $28945 MSRP of an EX. I talked to him today and said I'd come get it immediately if he'd still do it. He told me "around" 31000 now, and 28200 for a plain EXL. I asked him if he really would have sold it Saturday for that price, and he told me he would have due to some promotion. I guess I'll never know!
For the poster asking where it was, it was Lute Riley on Central in Richardson. I'd love to tell you the salesperson, as he was not pushy, knew his product, and didn't bash the competition, but I just saw a note that we're not supposed to do that... can I give initials??
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,518
Nope... nothing that would identify the salesperson..

$31,000 for a NAVI is about $800 under invoice. That is a great deal. Make sure the $550 destination is included. A lot of dealers use this trick.

I finally got to the last message in this thread, and have noticed that nobody has mentioned advertising fees in the invoices being discussed. Does Honda not include regional advertising fees in its invoices? Most sensible, if that is the case!

Nope, widely published Honda invoice prices are, in fact, the total invoivce prices (unlike Toyota).

I'm with you Zebra5! Are you serious about those prices jojomon? Under $20k for an LX, and an EX cloth for $24k OTD? Sounds too good to be true somehow. If it is true, I'll be making the 450 mile flight this weekend.
  • thegovthegov Member Posts: 4
Honda of Houston tried the old bait and swith quoting 27300 for EXL-RES. When pressed further for info before driving down to do the deal, was told it was a "mistake" and it was for an EX. I have had good luck with Honda of Frisco, and Freeman Honda, both in DFW. Still working on an EXL-RES from either one of them. Freeman offered 29981 for EXL-RES including destination, and wheel locks, trunk tray, and splash guards included.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Anything too good to be true isn't.
  • droopyeyedroopyeye Member Posts: 4
    Sad but true...

What's with these lowball offers people have been encountering lately? I guess certain dealerships think they can get consumers to invest their precious time and energy into making a trip down there only to pull the old bait and switch or unscrupulously readjust pricing.

I went to Gwinnett Place Honda (Hendrick group) here in Atlanta after being quoted a very competitive rate online on an LX which was several hundred dollars under CarsDirect pricing. I knew this price did not include destination, but when I got there they also tried to tack on a $499 documentation fee and a nearly $1600 option package which amounted to nothing more than roof rails with no crossbars, mudguards, and paint sealant/fabric protection. I negotiated them down to $800 for the sickeningly overpriced "preferred" option package but I can't imagine it cost them more than $400, if that, so I ultimately walked out in disgust.

To their credit there was no high pressure and the finance manager was highly professional and courteous the whole time as was the salesperson. It's just that they tack on that option group on all their Odysseys so one is forced to negotiate through that institutionalized dealer profit scheme. I guess I shouldn't be complaining too much as we're dealing with prices nearly $1000 under invoice on a low profit LX so they have to make some profit somewhere but they tack this on to all their Odysseys! With their doc fee and option package factored in, however, the price more accurately reflects TMV pricing instead of being significantly below with CarsDirect pricing.

Anyway, they called back this week and said they would work with me on reducing the price of that option package even further. I do not see myself paying more than $400 for it , particularly since they tack on that annoying doc fee. I will not make the trip until I have a firm OTD price on a particular model in stock. If it is one penny more when I get there I will walk out and not set foot in there again.

My wife decided that due to our recent addition to our family, we needed to get a van. There's a big dealer in my area, and I decided to go there. It's called Bobby Rahal Honda. The sales staff there was very rude and very full of themselves. They treated me very inconsiderately. Although their final price was (I thought) a good deal, I left and went to a dealership in Harrisburg where they were sooooo polite and considerate. Now I am the proud owner of a 2006 Honda Odyssey Touring! I love this van, but I don't like Bobby Rahal!
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
As one of the immediately preceding posts pointed out - beware of additional fees (whatever they might be called) and dealer installed accessories.

Best thing is get the dealer commit ALL of his numbers to paper, either via an email or a signed purchase order.

Hi, I'm also from Atlanta, following up on a listing from Breakaway Honda in SC for an '06 Ody Touring R & N for $35,117 (includes destination fee), + add on $38 for T&T, $198 admin fee + $300 of sales tax the that Breakaway would collect. The sales rep says I'd pay the rest of the sales tax directly to Fulton County. How does that work? Did you (or anyone else out there) do it this way? Thanks!
  • thegovthegov Member Posts: 4
I don't think you could force the dealer to sell you the car for that. I suppose you could always take them to small claims court for the difference you ultimately had to pay. Oh, and the court would be in your hometown, forcing them to make the drive however many hours away...Not legal advice, but possibly could win or at least cause them a headache.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
An out of state selling dealer collecting PART of the sales tax? No, that makes no sense.

Typically, an out of state store collects no sales tax whatsoever - it is levied in full where the vehicle is titled.

However, there are a few states now collecting ALL taxes on an out of state sale with the buyer's home state then giving the buyer a credit.

Wysiwyg704: The competition for sales in among Honda dealers in Northern Jersey is pretty fierce. We got our EX-L in Paramus for $26,850 plus destination, tax and fees. See post 12173 above for details. E-mail me if you need contact info. The Internet Department at DCH Paramus impressed me. Can't vouch for the rest of the dealership, though. It seems like a bit of a shark tank.

In the market for a new EX and was wondering if anyone had any insight on pricing or buying experience in the Richmond, VA area. I am also willing to travel to other cities in VA if deals are better. I have looked up the TMV that is on Edmunds but am hoping I can do better. Does anyone know if better deals are to be had on other models (i.e. EXL or EXL-RES)? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
