I am in the process of finalizing EX-L odyssey purchase TODAY. I was told by the dealer that if I get the warranty before they register the vehicle it would cost me less. Is that true? His best offer was 1300 for 7yr/100k.
How much should 7yr/100k warranty cost?
What is the best time to get the warranty (before or after the purchase)?
Is www.myhondwarranty.com best source for getting the warranty? Will this warrenty be hounored by all the dealedr in US?
Please help. :confuse:
Thanks,
JB.
need help anyone, just got quoted otd price of 33,700 for 2006 ex-l with dvd and nav, also i link for i pod, is this acceptable or do you think I can do better?
I have been researching getting an EXL RES in the Indy area and the best price that I am getting here (Penskee Honda) is
29,000+149(mud guards)+tax+destination etc. =31,012 (OTD). Is this a good price? All of the dealers in Indy say that they cannot even come near this price.
Also are there additional taxes and fees that I need to pay if I purchase out of state (Indiana)?
Thanks
VJ
You should be below $28K w/o the destination included if you've been reading recent posts. If your tax is that low I wouldn't look to buy from out of State.
We bought a 2006 Honda Odyssey EX-L for $26957 + $198 doc. The total OTD price is $286xx, including 5% MA sales tax and $120 title, license and MA inspection. This is very close to the deals people are getting from NJ dealers.
We started shopping from Sunday evening, emailed quote request to 6 dealers within 30 miles via edmunds.com and honda.com, got response from 4 the next day by email or phone call. The quote Herb Chambers at Westboro gave us over the phone was $273xx + doc, the lowest in the first round. The lady promised they could do better but refused to give out the best price, and invited us over.
From this forum we know, Herb Chambers is a leading chain dealership in MA. Someone got a great deal from Herb Chambers before. Most important, Herb Chambers is the closest one to our home. So we went there, test drove a car. The sales people were very nice and patient. During the 30 minute price negotiation, after a few rounds of talking to manager, they gave us $27179 OTD before TTL, which was higher than we had hoped for. Our one-year old became impatient, so did parents. We left.
Today is the last day of June. We made a few phone calls to these dealers we had sent email quote requests except Herb Chambers. The lowest we got was around $27300 OTD.
We heard an AD of Boch Honda on the radio this afternoon which claims itself as the second largest Honda dealer on the planet. We made a phone call, got a quote of $26835 + $298 doc fee. The lady we spoke to claimed they had lots of colors to choose from. When we got there, they could locate only 2 cars. None of them were what we hoped for in advance. My wife got upset and asked the sales person why. The sales person was a little bit rude, looked like he didn't care about the business with us. We were shocked and left.
Herb Chambers kept calling us this afternoon, reduced their OTD price to $27155. So we chose Herb Chambers instead because of their sincerity of earning our business, even though we need to pay $22 more than Boch Honda offered.
We came back to Herb Chambers at Westboro, took a glimpse at the car with 4 miles on it. Then we finished paperwork in about one hour.
Good luck to everyone still doing shopping.
The dealer showed me that he can get almost nothing with this deal.
I just wanted to have EXL but my wife wants to have DVD.
He offered EXL almost 27000.

Thanks to this forum I was able to get my odyssey EX-L on 06/30.
We went to Boch Honda in Norwood on 06/28, to test drive and select color. Decided on slate green / olive (wife reallyyy liked these colors). On 06/29 I emailed around 20 dealers in the area about the best quote and availability of the color in stock.
After number of emails / calls I could get a quote of 27k (which includes destination and doc fee) from Herb Chambers in Boston. As Boch is one of the closest, I decided to give the Boch sales associate a call. He said he had the color in stock and promised to match the price. We went there on 06/29 evening, saw the actual vehicle in stock, and he reduced price of the van to 26700 and added 300 for doc fee to make it 27000 + 5% tax + 86 registration fees.
Picked up the vehicle on 06/30. Extremely happy with the transaction and the van. Thank you very much guys.
Anybody in MA has bought extended warrenty? I am trying myhondawarranty.com and getting quote of 800 for 7yr 80k. Is it good price?
JB.
Also, if the the offer is 29,500 for EXL OTD, what would be a fair price for EXL RES OTD?
thanks
By the way, this forum has been very educational, just havent seen anything posted for Michigan (could be that whole big three thing
Thanks
I got bids from every dealer in IN as well as some in OH and IL, the columbus dealer was the best out the door price with the options I wanted.
Shop around, if you feel you are getting the best with Penske than go for it. I would contact the columbus dealer and see what they will do for you. Don't be affraid to mention you heard about them from me. Jerry will give you a bottom $ quote and won't add in any extra $.
Make sure you get an itemized list of all expenses. This way you can get an out the door price and they wont supprise you with a big documentation fee. Go with the best quote you can get! Email me if you want more info.
That's a great story and very helpful. I'm getting ready to buy an EX in the Bay Area too. Your story gives me confidence to get an EX for under $25k. What does OTD and TTL mean? BTW, I had a very similar experience buying an Honda Accord several years ago from Oakland Honda - they agreed to a price over the phone, but tried to reneg on it when I got to the dealer. Also, it's deffinitely a bad idea to bring the wife and child to the dealer - they use that against you.
Thank you
otguy
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thank you.
BTW: What do the terms OTD and TTL mean?

I am planning to buy the same model. I got a deal of 27750 + document fees, I am paying on road $30K for this. It will be helpful if you could please fax me the invoice you got , so that i can try for the same deal here with the dealer. Unfortunately i am locked with this dealer as i paid the 1K advance. Please help
Thanks

I'm looking to purchase the EX-L for $26,000 even... I'm getting close to that #, but haven't found a dealer just yet that will bite. Maybe this holiday one will...
Let me know if you purchase, how it went.
Thanks
TTL- Tax, Title, License
Thank you.
Were we aiming too low? I mean this is 4th of july, i thought dealers would be doing their best to get cars out the door. Apparently Criswell Dealership management didn't care to.
Any thoughts?
TTL- tax, title, and licensing fees
I got the 2006 Odyssey EX-leather only for 26,355 plus the TTL. I think it was a great deal in Southern California.
My invoice will not help you as Boch will not have same price for instock vs ordered vehicles (I guess this is the case as you are awaiting your vehicle delivery). Try to email around to all the dealers and find the best price for your particular color and availibility. Get the best quote from dealer which has your exact vehicle in stock and ask Boch to match it.
JB.
Also what do people think about having the dealer do fog lights versus having after market installation?
Finally, I did a search on the extended warranty, but didn't see whether folks thougt it was truly worth it and what a reasonable price to pay would be.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
We were able to drive a van all day, but did so only after the sales manager had come out and cordially told me that it was the end of the month and they needed to move some vehicles. He made a reasonable first offer before I had even looked at discussing price. We agreed to come back on the 30th of June and drive a van for the day. We loaded the van with a car seat, two boosters, 3 kids and four adults. We then proceeded to drive around Traverse City, watch the Blue Angels air show (National Cherry Festival up here), and have a picnic. This was followed by comparison shopping up close at Toyota, GM, and Kia dealerships. No doubt in our minds that this was the best van for us after that.
While we were out driving around, I spoke to the salesperson, several times by phone. She was willing to look through the Edmunds TMV, and Honda Odyssey Prices Paid & Buying Experience forum. When we returned at the end of the day they offered $600 over invoice with Splash Guards and luggage rack cross bars included. We agreed on $500 over invoice. I might have pushed for more, but it was late and we were treated with dignity and respect througout. The salesperson deserved to make some money to with all the leg work she had done for us!
Finally, the paperwork was completed in only 20-30 minutes. I asked about an extended warranty and was offered Honda extended warranty for only $950-1000 with full refund if not used. This was a better price than Warranty Direct could offer as well.
Kudos to the entire Williams Honda staff.
Numbers: (deal completed 30 June 06)
MSRP $35,145.00
+ Accessories ~$300.00
Invoice $31,673.00
+ $500.00
============
$32,173.00 + fees ($170) + TTL
Buying at the end of the month definitely helped!
(This post replaces #13131, removed because of personal names used in post - WHOOPS. Sorry about that. I was just trying to compliment the sales staff.)
Thanks
Get the Honda fogs if you're going to buy any. They are pricey and I certainly wouldn't recommend them unless you TRULY need them.
There's plenty of info here on the price of the vehicle itself. Expect to spend a grand easy on the accessories you've mentioned.
The offer on the EX is $26,111 (invoice) plus $674 for a back-up sensor (which he says is his cost). The out the door price is $28,928.
The offer on the EX-L is $28,258 (invoice) plus $674 for a back-up sensor. The out the door price is $31,235.
Are people seeing better deals than this?
We also got a quote from the local Toyota dealer for a Sienna LE with package #4 for out the door about $1,800 less than the EX. (Toyota also said that their back-up sensor would be no more than $200 :confuse: ). With the discrepancy in out-the-door price, the Sienna seems like a better value. My wife and I both prefer the Odyssey EX-L to the other options but are having reservations about spending over $31K on a car. Are EX-L owners experiencing real-world improved gas mileage from the VCM engine that would justify spending the extra amount for the EX-L? (Yes, I realize that driving conditions and style will affect mpg.)
Thanks for your thoughts.
