    ragedy,
Don't let them fool you with the $X,XXX under invoice approach. That's going to end up as an arguement over what "invoice" means. They'll add other fees and charges which aren't invoice. Best approach is to get a price quote of the full purchase price including all extra charges and fees except tax, title, and license, aka purchase price minus TT&L.

    Good luck.

At least I know parking sensor can be added to EX-L. My dealer told me the price is about $850. I decided to not add it.

    Hello all,

First off thanks to all who have posted prices, thoughts, links etc. This forum was extremely helpful to our shopping experience.

So the numbers currently our best deal is $27,459 for an Ocean Mist EX-L (no navi, no res). We have been quoted $26,959, but that dealer is pricing our trade in much lower. Those prices include the $550 destination fee and all other dealer fees. They do not include tax and registration.

We are hoping to finish things up tomorrow and take advantage of the previously mentioned Honda finance promo, but I was curious as to the thoughts of the community.

    thanks again.

It depends on the particulars of the trade really. As you've seen, the ONLY thing that truly matters is the difference between the price of the new and the trade value.
  • otguyotguy Member Posts: 37
Have recieved several EXL quotes (total price - TT&L) from SF Bay Area dealers ranging from $26,500 to $26,900, no trade-in or warranty to skew the numbers. One dealer told me that their real cost was about $26,885. But she said some dealers may be willing to loose money on 2006 Odys to make room for the soon-to-come 2007 models.

Also confirmed that Honda starts a new financing deal for Odys this Friday for 2.99% for 3 years or 4.99% 3-5 years

Dealers are responding quickly to internet requests with decent first quotes, then quickly going lower. They seem eager to sell. I should be able to close a deal soon on an EXL for well under $27k + TTL. More details later.

Anyone else getting Ody quotes in the SF Bay Area or NorCal?

    otguy :)

What have you been getting for LX quotes. I have seen quotes from $22,000-$22,500 (Plus TTL)includes alarm. There is a $500 cash incentive and a dealer hold back of $764.

    Thanks for your help.

I recently paid $34647 without tax for a new 2006 touring res and navi. Got rid of my trailblazer and I couldn't be happier. I found that a couple of dealerships in Chicago were more willing to give a good price from the start, without all the haggleing, than any dealership downstate. I would recommend Honda of Joliet to anyone. Right car and right price. Poor trade, but no one would give me a good trade. So what can you do.

Thanks for the tip OTguy. In addition to getting a quote of "under invoice," I am getting an OTD quote as well. So far the dealers that I've spent time talking to have not tried pulling any games of adding fees other than Tax, Title and License.
I have a quote of 33,562.xx from one dealer and 33,548.xx from another dealer. I'm not going to argue over a few dollars in the difference.

I did get contacted by one dealer who tried telling me (in a condescending written tone) that he would only take offers over invoice because their dealership does not give cars away at a loss. I guess he assumed I didn't know about the 500 factory incentive and the holdback.

    Here's his quote:
    "MSRP for 2006 Odyssey EX-L DVD/NAVI is $35145
    Factory Invoice is $31,673.24
If you will give me some profite over invoice ,will be fine, but don't
ask to loose the money just to sale the car."

And this guy is their "Internet Sales Manager!" You would think the Internet guy would know that his potential buyers are savvy about the Internet and know a little about pricing, incentives, holdback, etc...

BTW, don't forget the 2.9% financing starting this friday.

    Hey there ....

Just to give some feedback on our experience in the Boston area - 2006 EX-L DVD/NAV Ocean Mist.

    Our OTD price is 32,005.

Started with the invoice of 31,673.
Gave us the entire 3% dealer holdback back.
Gave us a large percentage of the $500 dealer incentive.
    Documentation fees were really low.

    Tax here is 5%.

We actually e-mailed a bunch of dealers, went through 2 or 3 rounds, and were lucky enough to have 3 dealers that really wanted to compete for our business.

The other 2 offers ended up being 32,268 and 32,280.

    Hi

I am also looking for EX-L DVD/NAV in Boston area. May I know the Dealer name ?
  • oddynjcustoddynjcust Member Posts: 1
That sounds like a good price!
Can you please tell me what OTD is?
Is the invoice you mentioned here the same found in Edmunds?
I about to shop for a 2006 EX-L RES in central NJ? Current offers are 28100 before destination. There is 6% tax here, and typically, $170 doc. fees, $ 352 for plates, so prices out of the door are ~$31000. Is this reasonable? Does anyone have experience buying in central jersey?
I will greatly appreciate your feedback
    :confuse:

This is the best offer we've gotten out of three.

It's 27,295 plus tax & tags. Out the door would be 29,192 (with the 6% sales tax, $260 tag fee.) Includes free cargo tray and splash guards.

Sound good? Is there any other room to negotiate?
  • ironchef65ironchef65 Member Posts: 3
I would think so, I just paid about $500 more than that (no mat or guards) and considered it a good deal in my neck of the woods (SW Michigan)... of course that was two weeks ago and heaven knows things change every day :D

I recently discussed the purchase of a new Honda Odyssey with a dealer. I gave a $200 deposit, but didn't sign anything since I hadn't received a check from the bank yet for the car payment.

Having second thoughts, if I decide not to buy the car, can I get my deposit back? Again, I signed nothing except the credit card receipt for the $200.
  • dwilliamdwilliam Member Posts: 128
Of course you can get your deposit back.
  • raggedy1raggedy1 Member Posts: 29
there is no legal obigation as far as I know. Deposits are fully refundable unless stated otherwise on your signed agreement. Oh wait, you didn't sign anything. I would assume you have no obligation, but the laws may be different from state to state. I know in CA they would have to refund you the money.
  • raggedy1raggedy1 Member Posts: 29
thanks Tannerduke. It sounds like you got about 1200 back from dealer invoice. That's a good deal! May I ask what doc fees were? I've seen some pretty wild doc fees from state to state. Here in CA it's 45.00
  • tannerduketannerduke Member Posts: 4
    There were 3:

Boch Honda ended up with the lowest.

Herb Chambers of Boston was close ... and they were actually great to deal with - was disappointed they didn't have the lowest price.

Clair Honda was in the running, but not quite as good.

When you stated, "2006 EX-L w/DVD for 28400 with the $550 freight charge."

Did you mean the 28400 already included the $550 freight charge? Or, the price was 28400 plus 550 freight charge? Thanks.

Thanks for the confirmation, do you know the ending date on this promo? I really don't need a van until the 3rd week of August (lease expires then), but I could get it early if the deal is ending.

Also does this efect the $500 rebate to the dealer?
  • odiopusodiopus Member Posts: 47
The end date for the financing is Sept. 5. I just spoke to a dealer in the Houston area. The lowest quote on an EX-L I have received so far is $27,185 plus TTL, which brings it to about $29,200 plus destination fee OTD. I also have a $100 coupon from their website they said I can use.

I just got a quote from John Eagle Honda on 290 for $27759 with destination. This is for an EXL. I also received a quote from Russel Smith Honda for 28573 for EXL with DVD. I am still trying to decide what to do.

Where was you quote from? Sounds like a great deal.

Has anybody have experience buying Odyssey in Seattle area?
  • iliadodysseyiliadodyssey Member Posts: 1
Here's my experience getting a new 2006 Odyssey EX in the Riverside/San Bernardino CA area. I got the AAA and the Costco prices, and used the Edmunds system to get 3 e-mail quotes. I'll give the results relative to the lowest (from Rock Honda in Fontana).
    Dealer A: $30 more
    Dealer B: $340 more
    Costco: $800 more
    AAA: $1,500 more
I won't give the total dollar figures, because I'm sure these will change as the end of the model year gets closer. It's very nice to be paying somewhere between $1,200 and $1,500 below Invoice (note: below Invoice, not just below MSRP) for exactly the car we wanted!
My guess is that Costco works better for cars selling closer to the MSRP, and not so well at the end of the model year.
We went to Rock Honda, and had a completely satisfactory buying experience - no surprises, no unexpected fees, pleasant/competent people, etc. Perhaps we could have gotten the dealers to bid against each other and have gotten the price down a bit more, but the people at Rock Honda were great to work with, it's 100+ degrees, gas is >$3.00, and we have far more enjoyable ways to spend our time than haggling.
    Suggestions and comments:
    1. Get the Costco and other fleet prices, and be sure to use the Edmunds system to get quotes from dealers in your area (use different ZIP codes if you don't get as many dealers as you'd like to have bids from).
    2. We got an extended warranty through the dealer. To get the best price, get the figures from www.myhondawarranty.com and show them to the dealer. The dealer will be likely to be reasonably close to those prices.
    3. Most of the cars on the lots have a leather-wrapped steering wheel. I REALLY like the feel of the rubberized stock steering wheel. There were two cars sitting in the sun on the dealer's lot, and the rubberized one seemed cooler than the leather-wrapped one.
    4. We've seen no evidence of the steering wheel shimmy other people have talked about on the Odyssey, and no evidence of the 2000 rpm "blowing across a soft drink bottle" sound. But we haven't gone over 60 mph yet.
    5. First thing tomorrow I'm going to take some gutter screen and cable ties, and attach the screen inside the lower air intake to protect the grill and pipes from rocks (as other people on forums have discussed).
    6. Then I'm going to take two cans of Scotchgard and spray all the cloth and rugs (we like cloth better than leather)
    7. What we did find, on opening the front door in the garage and bumping a cabinet, is that the black vinyl (or whatever it is) on the edge of top portion of the door must be about 3 molecules thick. About a 1" long strip rubbed off on the edge of the door, exposing the white metal underneath. Cheap, cheap, cheap! Off to Home Depot to get some liquid rubber.
    Otherwise, the car is great!
And THANK YOU THANK YOU Edmunds for the system for getting prices from the internet sales departments of dealers, and for the forums so we can find out likely trouble spots for cars! I hope that Edmunds realizes what a great service they provide to consumers!

I'm confident I will get the deal I told you about, but in full disclosure, I will tell you that I have a deposit down until the car comes in next week. It was being built this week and the dealer found what I wanted on their pending inventory list. If I wanted the Ocean Mist color, I could have driven off that day.

The dealer was O'Donnell Honda in Ellicott City. I accidently posted a person's name in my original reply (not allowed), but from what I saw, anyone there would be easy to work with. Good luck!

I contacted an auto shopping service offered by my credit union. They quickly found the Odyssey I wanted in SoCal and quoted me a price that was 1200 under invoice. But then there was a problem. Being in SoCal they wanted to charge me 350 to get the car up here.
All the Odysseys in the local area could be had for no more than 1k below invoice.
So the shopping service did no better than my own quotes.

So if all is true, it looks like there are better deals to be had in SoCal than NorCal right now. I guess when we're talking about a 30k dollar purchase a hundred bucks here or there isn't that big of a deal...

We picked up our Odyssey (EX L RES - silver pearl) yesterday on Honda in Marysville. I did all the negotiating via the internet and phone call. I got $1100 under invoice. I have seen a little better but I didn't want to put too much effort into this buying process. I kept waiting for the "other shoe to drop" because the process had gone so easily. We went into the dealership, they had the car ready, we got the special interest rate, they didn't try to force any extras on us. We got exactly the OTD price they said. I would highly recommend this dealership. We have 4 kids and they kept them entertained during the whole process also.

We just had the best car buying experience at Hennessy Honda in Woodstock (just outside Atlanta), and I wanted to share so that others can do business with Steve Clarke, who is their internet consultant.

We shopped around a lot for the best price (carsdirect; edmunds TMV; every honda dealer within 30-40 miles), and Steve had the best price by a long shot.

The other two dealers we were mostly likely to use, simply for convenience/location were Curry Honda and Gwinnett Place. Neither could match the price, and I was really irritated by internet salesperson at Gwinnett Place (Reggie Demande). He was all smoke and mirrors and wouldn't give a straightforward answer to anything and had an attitude. Stay away !

Steve, on the other hand, was completely responsive to all emails and calls from us (I was surprised by how unresponsive other dealers sometimes were to inquiries). He gave us the lowest price ($23,996 including destination charge, cargo tray, and splash guards, so this is over $2000 below invoice, I believe, on the basic EX trim). Once sales tax and documentation fees were added in, our driveout cost was $25,997. SO much better than everyone else, and even a few hundred below carsdirect. There is a $500 incentive to dealers right now, so that is one reason the price is low, but the other dealers still couldn't match it.

When we went to the dealership, he didn't try to add on expensive accessories or paint protection packages or any of that like other dealers do. The price he quoted online was the price we paid. We never felt hustled and got great service - it was worth the extra 30 minute drive for us.

    Go see Steve!

Hi All, I received an internet quote of 26,844 + 550 dest.= 27,394, for EX-L, no DVD. This is from Herb Chambers in Seekonk, Ma. He is the only 1 of the three I submitted that actually responded. Does this sound good or should I go there in person and haggle a bit? Any comments on this dealership?
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Purchased a 2006 ODY slate green metalic with olive interior for $26,888 +TTL. The deal include a cargo tray which can be purchased online for about $88 bucks, so the effective purchase price was $26,800 +TTL. Had 4 miles on the odometer.

My purchase experience is a long tail that I may recount in detail later. In summary, I spent several days emailing back and forth with 8 or 9 SF Bay Area dealers. The best offer I got was from Boris at Serramonte Honda, $26,888 +TTL with splash guards and wheel locks included. However, Boris couldn't come through with the right color. To his credit, he offered me a Sage Brush Pearl model for $200 less ($26,688 + TTL). George at Anderson in Palo Alto would have matched Serramonte's offer, but they didn't have the right color. Kim at San Leandro came close enough to matching Serramonte by agreeing to $26,888 +TTL with a cargo tray. She came through without playing any games at the dealership and finished the paperwork quickly. I have to give Kim and Tina (finance) at San Leandro props for excellent service and a very good price. In the end, I saved myself about $300 from first quote I got, which incidentally came from Kim. The $300 I saved was not worth all the time back and forth emailing the various dealers.

    No trade-in.
    No warranty.
No add-ons except the cargo tray.

I'll be really surprised and impressed if anyone can beat the deal I got by a significant amount.

    Otguy
PS: Got Honda's financing of 2.9% for three years, an icredible rate that beat my cedit union's 5.75% rate.

I was pleasantly surprised by the no-hassle, no-add-ons, excellent price deal at Albert Honda in Columbia, MO. $1500 under invoice on an EX-L Ocean Mist. 100% recommended. We are long-time customers of this dealer, and have always gotten excellent service, but this was our best buying experience ever.

Hey guys, We have been in the market for a new car for several weeks. I have studied this forum and decided that now is a good time to get the 2006 ODY/NAV and DVD that I have been wanting.

We went into today to Honda Cars of Rock Hill in Rock Hill, SC. The best deal that they came up with was $2000 off MSRP. When I counter offered with some of the below invoice deals stated on this site, he blew up. He told me to go back on this site and tell everyone that:

Quote: "They ought to be ashamed for lying. That is a LIE!!! There is no way that anyone bought an ODY below invoice cost." Never mind $1000 below invoice."

He even wanted to print his name and phone number here but I know I can't..LOL

I don't think that I have ever been so stunned. This guy has been at this dealership a long time. I'm kind of timid about trying another dealer. Any thoughts?? Thanks to all.

how could a dealer sell an odyssey at 2k below invoice. the 500 factory incentive brings it to 1500 below for the dealer, and their holdback is less than that. The dealer would be giving the car away at a loss. The holdback is less than 1500.00

I would go the dealers website and put in a quote request and see what the internet manager gives you as a quote. The quotes that I am getting are well below invoice, in one case $1500 below.

Try that, and in the mean time put in a quote request to a couple of other dealers in the area the same way. If you do it over the internet they can't really be rude to you.

I say give it a shot this way first, before you give up.

My wife and I have been looking at vans and researching for the past month. We have driven the Town and Country, Sienna, and Odyssey. We have decided we like the Odyssey the best and this will be the first new car we have ever purchased. We are interested in the LX. As I understand it the LX has a MSRP of $25895 and invoice of $23361. These figures include the destination charge of $550. The dealer quoted me a price of $23371 with a $300 gas card. I have a few questions. Is the invoice price what the dealership paid Honda for the vehicle? What exactly is the destination charge? Does the dealer get a $500 incentive from Honda for each one they sell? What does rollback mean? This will be a cash purchase and the dealer told me that quote was the best they could do. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Yes, the invoice is price the dealer paid for the vehicle BUT does not include 3% (of MSRP) "holdback" (not "rollback") that Honda will later refund to the dealer.

The destination charge is exactly that - the price of delivery of the unit from the factory to the dealership. It is a legitimate (and non-negotiable) charge.

Yes, there is a $500 dealer incentive at present.

You might be able to do better on the price (or not, depending on local market conditions). Shop several other stores and you'll quickly find out.
  • dwilliamdwilliam Member Posts: 128
Their quote probably means "it is the best we are willing to sell the vehicle for"

You are currently behind invoice because of the Gas Card and essentially their profit margin as it stands is $200 of the dealer cash (which the dealer does get on each and every Odyssey sold during the incentive period) as well as the Hold Back (Probably what you mean by Rollback.) The Dealer pays invoice for the vehicle and receives holdback when the vehicle is sold.

I am a Honda Dealer in Texas

I wouldn't pay cash for the vehicle as there is a 2.9% special through American Honda right now for a term up to 36 months with approved credit. (Simple Interest)

    The Anonymous Dealer

p.s. As a Dealer it is not my place to determine whether you got the best deal and I hope your experience in buying a Honda has been a great one so far! Good luck to you!
  • jaybird0711jaybird0711 Member Posts: 2
Thank you very much for your response. I can't believe I put rollback instead of holdback. I am new at this. I want to make sure I understand this correctly. The dealer's true cost of this vehicle is as follows:
    Invoice (including destination fee)=$23,361
    Less Holdback rebate of $760.35
    Less Dealer incentive of $500

    True cost=$22100.65
Am I interpreting this correctly? Thanks again.
