I am looking to buy the following trimline and am wondering what types of offers people have gotten recently from dealders in the Boston area.

    2006 Honda Odyssey LX 4dr Minivan (3.5L 6cyl 5A)
I got the following info from one dealer in Natick, MA back in May but am wondering what the invoice and out the door pricing looks like currently due to changing factory to dealer incentives at Honda, etc.

    msrp: $25,895
    dealer invoice: $23,362
    Your cost: $22,995

I've been tracking this helpful forum for the past couple of months. I just recently got off the sidelines and started to obtain internet quotes from several local dealers. The first few quotes I received were in the high 27s and low 28s. However, judging from this forum, a typical purchase price for an EXL seems to be in the $27,000 range +/- a few hundred dollars. The situation in my market (NY/CT) may or may not be different from what people are reporting from other parts of the country. Only one way to find out - negotiation. There are so many Honda dealers within half an hour's drive from my home. Competition is keen. Through negotiation and competition, I hope to do $500 to $1,000 better than the lowest internet quote. We shall see. I'll report back on how it goes.

By the way, in case I want to lease (3 years, 45,000 miles), can anyone post details about the current leasing program - money factor, residual value, acquisition fee, security deposit, disposition fee, etc.? My impression is that there has been no lease support for the longest time. I am also tracking the leasing forum, but that is not as lively a forum as this one.

Hosts kyfdx and car_man were very helpful to me last year vis a vis my lease of a 2006 BMW 330i. I felt very well informed before talking turkey with dealers. I hope to be in the same position vis a vis the purchase or lease of a new Ody.

OTD: Out of The Door. The total price (all inclusive) paid by the buyer

Yes, it is EX-L DVD/Nav, so it has leather seats, navigation and rear entertainment system. And I have bought it..not leased. Hope it helps.
  • justlooking920justlooking920 Member Posts: 6
Brought home a silver EX L w/DVD/NAV. I had put a $500 deposit yesterday w/another dealer but they couldn't get me one and the manager today didn't even bother calling me back after I said that another dealer had it today but I would still buy from them if they could at least give me a VIN for a car that they located to bring in.

Anyways, the dealer that just got one in today honored the prices quoted on the internet.
3 mi on it before my 7 mi test drive

    Your price: 30,320
    Freight: 550
    processing fee: 100
    wheel locks: 100
    cargo tray: 119
    splash guards: 140
    Total: 31,329
    VA 3% tax: 939.87
    VA tags: 83.50
    Total: 32,352.37 OTD

    I got the 2.9% financing.
Thanks everyone. This board was invaluable. Hope they have something like this when I want to replace my car now that my wife's set. Good luck out there!

Hello ... we've been lurking on the board, gathering great ideas and shoring up our 'courage'! Last night, my husband was told at Indy Honda (Greenwood, IN) that the holdback was not 3%, but only 1.5%. :confuse: Not so sure I believe him! Can anyone verify?

Thanks much ... we'll report back!

Hi..I bought it yesterday with the price tag of 30424 from Continental Honda. The lowest quote I had was of 30200 from Honda of Lisle but they had only white color in stock.

    shoppers out there:

Remember that you don't have to pay "processing fees." The deals I see on here are good deals even with the extra dealer fees so it's a moot point, but it could be even better without them!

Honda of Marysville started at $800 under invoice. I was also working with Honda East and Hinderer Honda. I just kept e-mailing/calling each one the best quote and asking if they could beat it. Honda East dropped out at $28,746 including destination (Hinderer and Marysville said they didn't want to loose my business and came down a little more). Hinderer told me they would beat my best quote by $100 but they didn't have the color I wanted and said they could find it but Marysville had it in stock so I gave up the $100. We have had our Oddyssey for less than a week and love it.

    Hope that helps.
  • stressdoc1stressdoc1 Member Posts: 5
I had a bit of a misunderstanding with the sales staff regarding the exclusion of the destination fee. Bottom line is that we got an EX-L for 27.3k Took advantage of the 2.9% financing.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
    Honda's holdback is, indeed, 3%.

There's a section somewhere here by the site's owners that lists it that way - you can't get much more authoritative than that!

I am having a hard time finding a 2006 Odyssey in the color I want so I may wait until the 2007 Odysseys are out before I buy one. Do the same negotiation strategies used at the end of the model year, i.e. internet quotes, work at the start of the new model year or are there other strategies I need to do to get the best price? Can you buy a new model year Odyssey for under invoice or can I expect to pay over invoice since it is the start of the new model year?
  • rsamarsama Member Posts: 1
Which dealership did you get this quote at? I got a quote for $27297 + TTL ( inclusive of destination) in Irving. Has anybody got a better quote in either Houston or Dallas or Austin?
  • courtenaycourtenay Member Posts: 3
I can't find a reasonable quote in this area. I'm $1,500 to $2,000 over invoice. I've tried Eastern Washington and the Portland area with no success. The best quote so far is for an EX-L for $32,173.00 with Nav and DVD. Is this a good offer or should I continue to negotiate?

    Thank you for any assistance....
  • mevandemevande Member Posts: 190
The dealer is lying. I subscribe to Consumer Reports new car buying on-line section (seperate from other areas) and it has been dead on re: all cars reporting dealer holdback information. On the Odyssey it is 3.0%. Dealers must still think consumers are dumb :confuse: and don't do their research.
  • estoesto Member Posts: 136
Can someone explain why the Pacific Northwest has so much higher pricing than so many other parts of the country? Yeah, it may be supply and demand, but is it really that extreme? Is Honda just not shipping Odysseys up here?? Or is there a dealer cartel that keeps prices high?? (Is there a Pacific NW Honda Dealers' Association?)

I'm in Portland OR, not ready to buy an Odyssey yet, but not looking forward to trying to get a price similar to that which most others here are reporting.
  • davidd3davidd3 Member Posts: 582
I'm facing a similar challenge in NY/CT. Solicited internet quotes from many dealers. Invoice minus $500 is easy. But breaking that barrier is proving to be difficult, let alone getting the prices reported in this forum. Most recent purchase prices reported here are sub-27k for the EX-L, while most quotes I am collecting are in the high 27s to low 28s. Through negotiation and competition, I hope to do better (maybe low 27s). But I frankly don't see it going below 27.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Who knows? Local market conditions are what they are for whatever reason. My guess is that is it simply geographic (you are, so to speak, hemmed in on two sides).

There a Seattle area Honda salesman who posts here regularly who is of the view that most of the reports of extremely low prices are, to put it mildly, exaggerations.

Where prices are SO much higher than elsewhere, a roadtrip might be worthwhile.
  • jwb18tjwb18t Member Posts: 45
I had a dealer in Wilkes Barr PA tell me the holdback was 2% not the 3% I quoted based on this forum. Thx for clearing it up, that indeed it is 3%. I walked out when we could not come to terms. Will look elsewhere for a deal.
  • mamamobilemamamobile Member Posts: 4
Our out the door price (includes TTL, destination, etc.) was 29,896 for an EXL without NAV or DVD, but with the following accessories included:
    -back up sensors (including installation)
    -cargo tray
    -mud guards

We got it from the Internet Department at Maroone in Hollywood. Also got very competitive prices from the Maroone in Miami.

It took a number of go-arounds...one dealer would offer one price, we'd get someone else to match it, etc. We were hovering slightly above 30K for OTD and finally just asked for $29.5K and went with the dealer (Maroone) who came closest.

Very high prices from Rick Case Honda, the Coral Springs Honda dealer and Key Largo.

Thanks to everyone who helped us along the way!

P.S. The most stressful part of the whole process was when it came down to financing. Our salesguy was nice and low-key, but the financing guy gave us a very hard time when we didn't agree to do the extended warranty/Low Jack policy with gap insurance. He was a jerk!

I posted back in June about Gladstone Honda. I had a trade and a limited time before a trip. They immediately returned my voicemail with (Invoice less 500) manuf to dealer. They also quickly scoured to find my EX-L RES/NAV in silver and I had it from Salem in less than 24 hours. Reasonable on my trade, so all things considered, I got exactly what I wanted exactly at invoice and incentive. I did not go after holdback because of what you state of higher NW costs and bottom line, I was being treated respectfully and everything was falling better than I had hoped. Make sure to try their internet manager and see how you fare. If you want more details I write, search for Gladstone.

I read the forum for a little while before jumping in and geting quotes from local dealers. Husband went to one local dealer before we came to the conclusion that internet pricing was the way to go for us.

Experience #1- Mike Pruitt Honda in Akron. We had a stipulation from our ending lease that if we bought from them again, they would pay an end of term fee. After two hours in the showroom with a salesperson, they came back with a figure of MSRP minus the fee. Dear Husband got up and left immediately.

Requested quotes from about 12 dealers in the Cleveland/Akron/Canton area. Initial prices quoted as follows:
    Classic 27668
    Park 27548
    Matia 27768
    Mentor 28858
    Sunnyside 27708
    Ganley 27718
    Roush 27268
    Youngstown 27869
    Apostalakis 27400
    Waikem (never replied)
Motorcars (wanted to talk to me before giving a quote)
Rick Case (did not submit a quote, only said that they would beat any written quote)

Wanted to purchase from Classic since we live close by. Asked them to meet the Roush or Park price. After talking about it, they did lower it to 27468. Viewed their selection and left to think about it.

Went to see the Internet guy at Roush (would highly recommend this guy- gave a great price the first quote out, and didn't try to inflate the prices of accessories. Didn't follow through with the actual transaction with him, but would suppose that he would continue in the same thoughtful manner), Roush had the olive interior, and we had not viewed that yet. Preferred the ivory interior which they did not have in stock.

Called Classic and aksed if they would throw in the all weather floor mats and tray for the 27468, which would beat the Roush deal. They said yes to the mats, no to the tray, so I still got the same deal as my lowest bid, and got the cargo tray for $100. Letting the salesperson know that getting the same Honda all weather mats and tray on Ebay would save me $53 over their price(including shipping) may have helped.

On Classic: Like the internet manager- knowledgable guy who didn't seem to want to mess with us, no pressure for warrantees or other stuff, no surprises in the contract. Did not like how one salesperson tried to tell me that the $250 doc fee was "required by the state of Ohio" and that there is no profit there. (I read otherwise here) He also tried to tell me that the dealer cost on the mats/tray were MUCH higher than possible (this is when I countered with Ebay). It took 1 1/2 hours to complete paperwork, and the internet guy took us through all of the fun stuff quickly but thoroughly. Only had it a day, but can't see anything wrong with it at all.

As an aside, we tried to get quotes from Toyota dealers (my husband has been driving Accords for 10 years and we had the Odyssey LX since 2002, so he was tired of the look), only one dealer sent back a quote. Each and every other dealer wanted to talk on the phone or have us come in. Didn't want the hassle, and I had heard the reputation of Toyota sales staff.

After considerable information gained from you experts on this and other Edmunds boards, I just came home with my new Odyssey EX (Ocean Mist/cloth). Here's the deal, which was obtained after a rather touchy exchange with a sales manager after which I stuck by my price and walked out, and was later called back by the General Mgr who was much more amenable to dealing. Thanks to my research on Edmunds and other sites, I was able to defend exactly why I thought they were able to sell at the price I asked for. I got exactly what I wanted, and don't think I could have done much better on the price, but I hope you can tell me that:

    MSRP: $28,945
    Negotiated price:
$24,800 plus tax and tags --
I got an ok value on my trade, I think (basically KBB value -- but I didn't expect top trade dollar with a bargain sales price)

Negotiated the terms with the GM over the phone, finished the deal today with my salesperson, in and out in an hour, not even enough time for my kids to get bored. Overall, I rather pleasant experience, and I love my new car (it hardly feels like a van).

So -- how did I do?
  • sbmattsbmatt Member Posts: 5
    Hi Courtenay,

I had the same problem and eventually went with my local dealer Klein Honda. I dealt with a very nice and helpful salesperson. I didn't get a great deal like some on this board, but I was happy with the experience, service, and the vehicle I got. I used the 'costco' price. I e-mailed other Honda dealers in Seattle and got pretty much the same price. Before TTL I got the EX-L DVD & NAV w/ Mudguards, Wheel Locks, & Roof Cross Bars for $32,900... more than I wanted to pay, but I got a color I wanted and the 4.9% financing. Overall I'm really excited about my 1st brand new vehicle and my choice of the Odyssey.

I originally got the extended warranty from the dealer, but after researching the other posting on here I think I'm going to get a better deal through 'hondacareguy'! It was a better plan with $0 deductible for $40 less than what I paid at Klein.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

I think you did Super. Tried the same deal in Wilkes Barre area yesterday, I offered $24734 for an EX same color as yours and on the lot. The dealers bottom line was $25828 + T,T,& L. I left and will seek another deal elsewhere. What dealer did you use? I bought my last car in the Philly area after the VW dealer could not get close to the deal I got in Langhorne PA. Thx. and enjoy your new vehicle.
  • jmpgjmpg Member Posts: 6
We bought from Scott in West Chester, and were very content with the salesperson's service (once we agreed on the deal). Coming from Wilkes Barre, I will also encourage you to contact Conicelli Honda in Conshohocken -- we were in touch with the Internet Sales person there and would have gotten the same price. He was very helpful and "no pressure". However, Conshohocken is about 30-40 minutes further for us and a few unrelated commitments kept us close to home over the last few days. So Scott won the business mostly on proximity.

Your dealer's "bottom line" of $25828 is even higher than the initial internet price quotes I received from local dealers after requesting quotes through Autobytel and edmunds, so you know there's a lot of room for movement there. (My initial quotes, from Conicelli and Piazza/Drexel Hill, were around $25610, which was basically invoice minus $500, passing on the $500 manufacturer to dealer incentive.) Best of luck to you!! :)

here in SF bay area California more specifically the east bay. We are looking at the 06 EX.L Odyessy and I have not been happy at all with Dublin Honda, Livermore Honda which are the closest to me. The sales people were rude and at one of the dealers the sales manager was a complete jerk!! I don't care how good they might be I won't go back. Someone told me that Marin Honda in Corte Madera was really good, fair and no pressure. Does anyone else know about them? Looking to purchase in the next week.

I picked up my Odyssey yesterday from Brilliance Honda in Crystal Lake, IL. After some bumpy patches I got the deal, the color and the car of a soccer mom's dream! My sales person was good and the new cars sales manager great! My only question is has anyone had the Protection Package on their car? Advise greatly appreciated!

I'll apologize now for this long post but want to know what I did wrong? I welcome your feedback. Have been reading this very helpful board for several months now and went prepared to buy yesterday. Went to Dene Lambkin Honda in Quincy, Illinois-noting they have received the Honda presidents award for several years. We were looking at the EX-L with DVD. They had added on $1000 for undercoat, splash guards, cargo tray and I don't know what else. First off, they are advertising in the paper and on their website they are offering 2.9% for 5 years rather than the 4.9%. It was even posted on the entrance doors from the newspaper ad. We asked the salesman and he said that is not right and we said but it is advertised everywhere and he said well that's wrong but we'll take care of it.?? I knew we were in trouble at this point. I didn't want the $1000 worth of extras they had on there and the salesman told me it really wasn't on there it just said that.?? However, it was included in the final price. For the deal. The MSRP was 32,945. They offered us 1046.71 off. I said so you have come down about $500 off MSRP and he said no the 1046 and I asked about the $500 dealer cash and he responded by saying "that aint my money." This also was with the 4.9 thru Honda not the 2.9 they were supposedly offering. We were trying to trade in and for our trade they were gonna give us $3400 less than edmunds and kbb. I knew we wouldn't get that but didn't think it would be that much less. He told me they only use Manheim (sp?) which I guess is an auction? I ask him how to spell Manheim and he said he didn't know but spelled it like Manhart?? When we were leaving he yelled across the showroom to my husband see ya later buddy. My husband called back after we went to the toyota dealer that would actually deal with us- if they could do better and spoke directly with sales manager and he said "we don't play those games." We were in a pickle cause yes I really like the Honda better. I don't see how they've ever received the presidents award with our salesman working there. It was one thing to give us a ridiculous price but to have him treat us like that was way worse. I guess our only option is to sell outright and go to a dealer that will at least get to invoice?? I'll glady drive to Chicago before I'd go back to that place. I'd welcome your comments to let me know what I should have done differently. Thanks to all!!!!

Yes, $34,900 and some change out the door for the 2007 Honda Odyssey leather with Navigation and DVD.
  • mqqb1mqqb1 Member Posts: 29
Doesn't sound like you did anything wrong; you did RIGHT if you walked away from a dealer who was screwing around with the deal. The best thing to do is to get multiple quotes from several dealers so that you have CHOICES when stuff like this happens and the POWER to walk if you don't feel right or feel like you're being treated on the up and up. The lowest price quote is often one with a hidden agenda built in to it, e.g., to get you in the door and then a) completely lowball you on a trade in or b) to sell you another vehicle at a higher price because the one your were quoted mysteriously has disappeared.

Also, $1046 off of MSRP is not really a great deal anyway.
  • julierichardsojulierichardso Member Posts: 9
did the prices you got quoted included the DVD system?

    Thank you.
  • julierichardsojulierichardso Member Posts: 9
I am in South Florida and am getting quotes just under $30K NOT including the Navigation System (just the DVD and leather on an EX), so the quotes you're receiving seem competitive in my market.
  • sgagelsgagel Member Posts: 2
No, my EX-L has no DVD or NAV.
Also, I think I put in the wrong $ for Apostalakis- it was somewhere around 27700.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Many here have reported fine prices in the Chicago area - send out some emails to various Honda stores and get some better quotes.

Yes, he was referring to an auction house. They run them in various areas of the country and many dealers use their numbers to calculate trade-in values. Those auction prices are often vastly different (usually lower) than popularly published figures.
  • don51don51 Member Posts: 10
I would contact your local Better Business Bureau. It is one thing to missprint in the paper, but to post it in the store is a no-no. They should have posted a correction.

    Also the undercoating seems odd.

I'm looking to buy a honda odyssey ex-l with res. I live on long island and got a price from apple honda for $29,700. The salesman told me that it was $500 under invoice. Is this a good price or could I do better than that somewhere else. any help is greatly appreciated.
  • ruschrusch Member Posts: 16
I would recommend that you get a few e-mail quotes than take those in and see if they can meet or beat the price. I did that as well as the print out from KBB for my trade in. We just got our EXL RES and I had a good experience w/ Brilliance Honda in Crystal Lake. I would recommend them! Good Luck.

I'm new to this but can see how it might become addictive....We're trying to decide between buying our leased Acura MDX that we love or turning it in and buying an Odyssey EX-L RES. Our 2nd child is due any day. Few questions:

    1. What is pro pack?
    2. What type of discount should I get on a 2006 vs. a 2007? Trying to decide if I should wait for 2007's especially if they can't find the color I want in an '06.
    3. Any thoughts on the MDX vs. the Odyssey? Both have 3 rows of seats..van slightly bigger but not as much as I thought....

    Thanks!

    1. "Pro pack" just sounds like one of many names for the same thing - a way for a dealer to inflate profit. Steer clear.

    2. Just read the posts to this thread for the past couple of months and you'll get a good idea of current Odyssey pricing which is very subject to local conditions. The street prices of '07s as they hit the ground will be higher. By how much (and how soon they'll decline) nobody knows at this point.

    3. If it's a financial decision, it depends on what your buy-out is for the Acura. If you're asking solely in terms of practicality, the Odyssey wins hands down.
  • mdavis99mdavis99 Member Posts: 9
Thanks! Bottom line, I'm having a hard time giving up a "cool" car for a minivan (although it's pretty cool too)...especially when buying the new minivan will cost more.

Think I'll just see if I can get the EX-L RES for around $28.5K...If so, it's probably a good enough deal to move forward with......I've got to remember that practicality is probably more important in my current life stage!

I have been reading the board for the last couple of weeks in preperation for my '02 LX lease running out in August.
I went to my local dealershuip last week to price out the LX leasing options.
This quote was from a dealership in Brooklyn, NY
After about two hours I walked away with this quote:
    36 months
1,800/down (inlcudes tax, title, destination and my first months payment)
    12k miles
and I got the roof rack
my monthly payment was quoted at $340

I'm as close to clueless as you can get with this, so I'm curious if that seems like a good deal.
I called around to two to three other dealerships in the area nad was quoted right about the same price.
