    Hi,

I am in the process of finalizing EX-L odyssey purchase TODAY. I was told by the dealer that if I get the warranty before they register the vehicle it would cost me less. Is that true? His best offer was 1300 for 7yr/100k.

How much should 7yr/100k warranty cost?

What is the best time to get the warranty (before or after the purchase)?

Is www.myhondwarranty.com best source for getting the warranty? Will this warrenty be hounored by all the dealedr in US?

    Please help. :confuse:

    Thanks,
    JB.

    Hey Guys,
I have been researching getting an EXL RES in the Indy area and the best price that I am getting here (Penskee Honda) is
29,000+149(mud guards)+tax+destination etc. =31,012 (OTD). Is this a good price? All of the dealers in Indy say that they cannot even come near this price.

Also are there additional taxes and fees that I need to pay if I purchase out of state (Indiana)?

    Thanks
    VJ

That "out-the-door" price sounds low, if $29,000 doesn't include destination or licensing. Is your State tax like 4 percent?

You should be below $28K w/o the destination included if you've been reading recent posts. If your tax is that low I wouldn't look to buy from out of State.
  • vjpvjp Member Posts: 3
We have a 6% tax here in Indiana. The 29,000 includes the destination fees.

First let us thank this forum for providing us the useful pricing information and great buying experiences.

We bought a 2006 Honda Odyssey EX-L for $26957 + $198 doc. The total OTD price is $286xx, including 5% MA sales tax and $120 title, license and MA inspection. This is very close to the deals people are getting from NJ dealers.

We started shopping from Sunday evening, emailed quote request to 6 dealers within 30 miles via edmunds.com and honda.com, got response from 4 the next day by email or phone call. The quote Herb Chambers at Westboro gave us over the phone was $273xx + doc, the lowest in the first round. The lady promised they could do better but refused to give out the best price, and invited us over.

From this forum we know, Herb Chambers is a leading chain dealership in MA. Someone got a great deal from Herb Chambers before. Most important, Herb Chambers is the closest one to our home. So we went there, test drove a car. The sales people were very nice and patient. During the 30 minute price negotiation, after a few rounds of talking to manager, they gave us $27179 OTD before TTL, which was higher than we had hoped for. Our one-year old became impatient, so did parents. We left.

Today is the last day of June. We made a few phone calls to these dealers we had sent email quote requests except Herb Chambers. The lowest we got was around $27300 OTD.

We heard an AD of Boch Honda on the radio this afternoon which claims itself as the second largest Honda dealer on the planet. We made a phone call, got a quote of $26835 + $298 doc fee. The lady we spoke to claimed they had lots of colors to choose from. When we got there, they could locate only 2 cars. None of them were what we hoped for in advance. My wife got upset and asked the sales person why. The sales person was a little bit rude, looked like he didn't care about the business with us. We were shocked and left.

Herb Chambers kept calling us this afternoon, reduced their OTD price to $27155. So we chose Herb Chambers instead because of their sincerity of earning our business, even though we need to pay $22 more than Boch Honda offered.

We came back to Herb Chambers at Westboro, took a glimpse at the car with 4 miles on it. Then we finished paperwork in about one hour.

Good luck to everyone still doing shopping.

We were looking for EXL which was quoted at 27150 incl dest. You appear to be shopping for the EXL W/DVD. They quoted 28400 + 550 destination = 28950.

I live in the Twin Cities and am looking to see if anyone has purchased an EX or EX-L. I am wondering what prices have been paid. The initial offer I received from one dealer was 25,928 for an EX. How much lower should I ask? Thanks.
  • joeparkjoepark Member Posts: 2
I bought EXL w/RES for $28300 including Destination charge at Hopkins Honda, Sunnyvale today. :)
The dealer showed me that he can get almost nothing with this deal.
I just wanted to have EXL but my wife wants to have DVD.
    He offered EXL almost 27000.

I am looking for an EX in Eastern, PA. I am in the Allentown area. What is a recommended price? I see Honda has a recent mfr. to dealer incentive of $500. Thanks.

I went to a dealer today and they quoted me $27,000(+ Taxes + dest) for new EX-L with out dvd/nav. I was not happy and walking out of the deal then they offered me $27,000 ,Inclusive of every thing (OTD). I told them I will come back tomorrow. Is it the best deal in the bay area?
  • chirpchirp Member Posts: 194
That deal sounds too good to be true. $27K for EX-L Out-the door? I would hope it's sitting in your driveway now. If not, I would have to wonder why! :D

    Hi,

Thanks to this forum I was able to get my odyssey EX-L on 06/30.

We went to Boch Honda in Norwood on 06/28, to test drive and select color. Decided on slate green / olive (wife reallyyy liked these colors). On 06/29 I emailed around 20 dealers in the area about the best quote and availability of the color in stock.

After number of emails / calls I could get a quote of 27k (which includes destination and doc fee) from Herb Chambers in Boston. As Boch is one of the closest, I decided to give the Boch sales associate a call. He said he had the color in stock and promised to match the price. We went there on 06/29 evening, saw the actual vehicle in stock, and he reduced price of the van to 26700 and added 300 for doc fee to make it 27000 + 5% tax + 86 registration fees.

Picked up the vehicle on 06/30. Extremely happy with the transaction and the van. Thank you very much guys.

Anybody in MA has bought extended warrenty? I am trying myhondawarranty.com and getting quote of 800 for 7yr 80k. Is it good price?

    JB.

I'm looking to buy an EXL in the next day or two. So far my best quote has been 29,500 OTD (Michigan taxes are 6%). Not too many high volume dealers in this area, and I really don't want to travel out of state. Anyone picked up a EXL in SW Michigan for a better deal? I plan to pull the trigger this Wednesday (before the $500 Man to Dlr rebate expires)

Also, if the the offer is 29,500 for EXL OTD, what would be a fair price for EXL RES OTD?
    thanks

By the way, this forum has been very educational, just havent seen anything posted for Michigan (could be that whole big three thing ;) )

What's "no BS lowest sale"? Did you try Penskee Honda. I live on the south side (Greenwood) and the offer from Indy Honda as you said was not really good. I thought the one from Penskee was the best in the Indy area (31012 includes taxes and everything). Did you get any addtional stuff (warentees etc.) from the Columbus dealer?

    Thanks
  • apexslideapexslide Member Posts: 2
I opted not to take any additional warentee from the columbus dealer. I called Penskee and Honda West with the #'s I got from columbus and was told "thats a good price, sorry I can't match it."

I got bids from every dealer in IN as well as some in OH and IL, the columbus dealer was the best out the door price with the options I wanted.

Shop around, if you feel you are getting the best with Penske than go for it. I would contact the columbus dealer and see what they will do for you. Don't be affraid to mention you heard about them from me. Jerry will give you a bottom $ quote and won't add in any extra $.

Make sure you get an itemized list of all expenses. This way you can get an out the door price and they wont supprise you with a big documentation fee. Go with the best quote you can get! Email me if you want more info.

That's a great story and very helpful. I'm getting ready to buy an EX in the Bay Area too. Your story gives me confidence to get an EX for under $25k. What does OTD and TTL mean? BTW, I had a very similar experience buying an Honda Accord several years ago from Oakland Honda - they agreed to a price over the phone, but tried to reneg on it when I got to the dealer. Also, it's deffinitely a bad idea to bring the wife and child to the dealer - they use that against you.

    Thank you

We've decided to buy a 2006 EX (no leather, nav, or entertainment system) in the SF Bay Area. Can anyone recommend a Bay Area Honda dealer from a recent purchase? What are EX's selling for in the Bay Area? My plan is to call or email the local dealers asking for their best price, no financiing or trade-in. Does email or telephone work best?

    Any advice would be appreciated!
    Thank you.

BTW: What do the terms OTD and TTL mean?

It will be helpful if you could please fax me the invoice you got , so that i can try for the same deal here with the dealer. Unfortunately i am locked with this dealer as i paid the 1K advance. Please help

I don't know of any dealers in the SF market, but a cousin of mine purchased his EX on June 30 in Southern Cal for $24000 even. So you can at least use that knowledge towards your bargaining.

I'm looking to purchase the EX-L for $26,000 even... I'm getting close to that #, but haven't found a dealer just yet that will bite. Maybe this holiday one will...

The sticker on the Touring is $39.5k - I was able to get him to $33k - anyone have any thoughts ?
  • don51don51 Member Posts: 10
I am in the Toledo Ohio area, just started my search. A Toledo dealer said they would probably go $2500 off of sticker - so with tax right around what you were quoted. This dealer is known to be high, so I am hoping to get lower. Not sure where you are in SW Mich., but you might try Victory Honda in Monroe (SE Mich). I will be going there later this week, two neighbors bought there and said they had the best deals around this area. I emailed them last night and they called me the first thing.

Let me know if you purchase, how it went.
  • dmichdmich Member Posts: 11
Was that $24,000 out the door?
  • dmichdmich Member Posts: 11
What prices have you been getting for the LX? My quotes have ranged from $22,200 to 23,700 plus tax, title and doc fees.

    Thanks
  • chirpchirp Member Posts: 194
OTD- Out-The-Door All inclusive price with ALL costs included.(TTL,Destination, Registration,Documentation, etc.)

    TTL- Tax, Title, License
  • chirpchirp Member Posts: 194
Buy it now. The amount of options on the Touring for $33K is an incredible bargain and it drives like a dream. That is as good a deal as it gets even if you have to add the $550 destination to that price.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Shop east or south - you can buy at many stores in Ohio for well under invoice.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
If it's an R&N (which your stated "sticker" indicates), then, as a previous poster said, grab it without a second thought.
  • otguyotguy Member Posts: 37
What does R&N mean - Rear entertainment System & Navigation?
    Thank you.
  • cochbrcochbr Member Posts: 13
No way, $24k OTL. It was price inclusive of destination charge before TTL.

My wife and I want a base model odyssey. We're fine w/ no bells and whistles. This dealer in Germantown MD, would not go below Invoice. Not budge. We didn't budge either. In fact, we told him our purchasing price for today was 21K out the door. He wanted us to pay the advertising & destination fees.

Were we aiming too low? I mean this is 4th of july, i thought dealers would be doing their best to get cars out the door. Apparently Criswell Dealership management didn't care to.

    Any thoughts?
  • bks191bks191 Member Posts: 9
From what you are saying, I would guess that you aimed too low. Invoice on an LX is $22,811+ $550 destination = $23361. If Honda continues $500 factory to dealer incentive, $1200 under invoice seems to be the norm (we just bought EXL @1210 under invoice. In researching ours, one dealer quoted prices on all trim levels--for an LX $21,800+ $550 destination = $22350 ( $1011 below invoice.) I would aim at approximately $22000-$22200 + TTL. Hope this is of some help.

I was able to get a deal on a new 2006 Odyssey EX-L with leather only for 26,355 at the end of last month (JUNE). The dealer in Southern California seemed to be the nicest on the phone so I gave them a shot and I still e-mailed the other dealers to see if they could beat this price and no one has confirmed or committed to be sure they can beat the price, so I feel pretty good about this deal.
  • tseng99tseng99 Member Posts: 2
    OTD- out the door
TTL- tax, title, and licensing fees

I got the 2006 Odyssey EX-leather only for 26,355 plus the TTL. I think it was a great deal in Southern California.
  • cochbrcochbr Member Posts: 13
What dealer in Southern California did you buy from? Thanks.
  • jb05jb05 Member Posts: 5
    Rama,

My invoice will not help you as Boch will not have same price for instock vs ordered vehicles (I guess this is the case as you are awaiting your vehicle delivery). Try to email around to all the dealers and find the best price for your particular color and availibility. Get the best quote from dealer which has your exact vehicle in stock and ask Boch to match it.

I am looking to get the EXL with DVD player. All the dealerships in SD and MN I have went to will not budge below invoice. Some are stating that they are only making the $500.00 offer that Honda is giving back to dealers...are they flat out lying? They offered the price $29706.00 and that was their bottom line...any feedback is greatly appreciated. I had offered $28400 which is 1400 less. When I said that, they said the places that would offer that price would be losing money!!

Hi, I'm in the proccess of shopping for a 2006 EXL Odyssey. I do not want a DVD player Nor do I wnat the navigational system. How much am I looking to spend. The one dealership I went to went down to 27,900. When I asked if they have any incentives going on, they told me no. when I asked when the 2007 cars are coming, I was told no time soon. I really question that. Anyone have any thoughts?

I am looking at the EXL with NAV & Ent. Interested in adding back up sensors, wood trim and ipod accessory. Any thoughts on pricing?

Also what do people think about having the dealer do fog lights versus having after market installation?

Finally, I did a search on the extended warranty, but didn't see whether folks thougt it was truly worth it and what a reasonable price to pay would be.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

We had a wonderful buying experience at Williams Honda in Traverse City, Michigan. Basically, we were able to purchase a 2006 Ody EX-L,RES&NAV for 500 over invoice. While this is not the discount that others have posted here on the Touring model, it seems to be a fair price overall; And we didn't have to drive to Grand Rapids, or Detroit!

We were able to drive a van all day, but did so only after the sales manager had come out and cordially told me that it was the end of the month and they needed to move some vehicles. He made a reasonable first offer before I had even looked at discussing price. We agreed to come back on the 30th of June and drive a van for the day. We loaded the van with a car seat, two boosters, 3 kids and four adults. We then proceeded to drive around Traverse City, watch the Blue Angels air show (National Cherry Festival up here), and have a picnic. This was followed by comparison shopping up close at Toyota, GM, and Kia dealerships. No doubt in our minds that this was the best van for us after that.

While we were out driving around, I spoke to the salesperson, several times by phone. She was willing to look through the Edmunds TMV, and Honda Odyssey Prices Paid & Buying Experience forum. When we returned at the end of the day they offered $600 over invoice with Splash Guards and luggage rack cross bars included. We agreed on $500 over invoice. I might have pushed for more, but it was late and we were treated with dignity and respect througout. The salesperson deserved to make some money to with all the leg work she had done for us!

Finally, the paperwork was completed in only 20-30 minutes. I asked about an extended warranty and was offered Honda extended warranty for only $950-1000 with full refund if not used. This was a better price than Warranty Direct could offer as well.

Kudos to the entire Williams Honda staff.

Numbers: (deal completed 30 June 06)
    MSRP $35,145.00
    + Accessories ~$300.00

    Invoice $31,673.00
    + $500.00
    ============
    $32,173.00 + fees ($170) + TTL

Buying at the end of the month definitely helped!

(This post replaces #13131, removed because of personal names used in post - WHOOPS. Sorry about that. I was just trying to compliment the sales staff.)

Thanks. Any specific dealers that you know of? I am getting quotes of $2000 - $2300 off sticker, still above invoice. Would love to know the names of dealers going well under invoice.

    Thanks

Just email some stores in the Dayton/Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland/Akron areas and you'll quickly get an idea of the market. Don't bother with Immke or Roush in Columbus as they're not price competitive.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Check the thread here on Honda extended warranties. If you can buy one right, it may well be worth the cost on an R&N given the pricey replacement cost of the electronic components. My selling salesman said just the dash nav unit alone costs $4800!

Get the Honda fogs if you're going to buy any. They are pricey and I certainly wouldn't recommend them unless you TRULY need them.

There's plenty of info here on the price of the vehicle itself. Expect to spend a grand easy on the accessories you've mentioned.

My wife and I went minivan shopping today. The local Honda dealer made us offers on an EX and an EX-L.
The offer on the EX is $26,111 (invoice) plus $674 for a back-up sensor (which he says is his cost). The out the door price is $28,928.
The offer on the EX-L is $28,258 (invoice) plus $674 for a back-up sensor. The out the door price is $31,235.
Are people seeing better deals than this?
We also got a quote from the local Toyota dealer for a Sienna LE with package #4 for out the door about $1,800 less than the EX. (Toyota also said that their back-up sensor would be no more than $200 :confuse: ). With the discrepancy in out-the-door price, the Sienna seems like a better value. My wife and I both prefer the Odyssey EX-L to the other options but are having reservations about spending over $31K on a car. Are EX-L owners experiencing real-world improved gas mileage from the VCM engine that would justify spending the extra amount for the EX-L? (Yes, I realize that driving conditions and style will affect mpg.)
    Thanks for your thoughts.
