    Donkey,

Thanks for the buying advice. It worked extremely well! I would not wait long either - the colors choices will be very limited within a couple of weeks. I did finance mine through American Honda and got 5.69% on 60 months (nothing down)and I also got the $2K incentive. My credit score was an 831 - so that must have helped. The best I could get through the bank/cu was 6.5. I would listen to Donkey, from what I've experienced - he is right on the money with this stuff.

We decided to opt for an 08' EX-L and are negotiating the price with several dealers. So far the best price is right $28,900 plus fees. Just wondering if this is a good buy, it will be our first Honda.
  • chuckylrchuckylr Member Posts: 2
Looks great to me, it's actually below the invoice price. I can only get quote for $1000 over invoice for a 2008 EX.
  • allison04allison04 Member Posts: 10
Just wanted to post my experience since I have been lurking these posts for a few weeks. Bought an 07 exl for 25800 including destination. Also got 5.4 % financing through Honda. Did about 7 different internet quotes and my lowest quote was 25800 for and exl and 27200 for an exl res. Decided on exl and will use our own portable dvd players for the kids. Just didn't think it was worth that much extra. That price did include the 2k incentive, so it was 31800 on the msrp so I felt like I got a great deal. They also through in the cargo tray. Got the dark cherry pearl which was the color I wanted. They also gave me a quote for an ex which was 24400. My husband really wanted leather, I could have had cloth but now that I have had it and it is getting cold the heated seats are very nice!
Thanks or all the info on the posts!

28900 is that the starting price? because if you look back to a year ago (on this site) the deals on new model 07 at that time were otd 28500; and they offered 3.9 / 60 mo. It came more around Christmas time though.

anyone negotiate a deal on service plans?
  • ironmantkironmantk Member Posts: 10
this van has some accesories and a paint & interior protection deal altogether listing around 1,000 retail. I've got better quotes down to 35,000 otd for white, silver or biege! this ones slate on black. Basicly it seems that color is a negotiating fact now with 07 limited. I'm not even sure sometimes if you start out with a price match that suddenly "in stock vans" falls to a few on wanted choices.

    Where are you located?

I figured that if I decide to do this, that is exactly my target price--$1000 under invoice + $2k rebate.

Right now, dealers in the DC area seem to be back up around $26300--however, if I was REALLY going to do a deal, I bet I could get someone to accept 25.8.

Chicagoland. Had a great experience with the dealer and everything.

    mfletou1-
What dealers have you discussed 26,300 with in DC? I am in the DC region too, and initial responses are slightly north of that.

Honda of Joliet. I did it all by internet quotes and then some phone calls. Salesman was very nice, not pushy at all. Just got back from picking up my cargo tray that they threw in for me. The sales tax in Joliet is only 6.5% which was nice too. They also do not put any extras on the cars so the price was the price of the van. Did well on our trade too. Any other questions let me know.

I paid $33k for Slate/Black with muds, locks, and stripes. Doc fee was another $299. That probably works out within a couple hundred of your deal. If you can still get slate/black I would grab it before you're stuck with something else.

    afirozvi,
Could you please email me the quote you got on your EXL with NAV&RES? Did you buy it? What dealer was it from? My email is vfvincent@gmail.com.
    thanks!

has anyone bought an EXL w/ NAV & RES in near Dallas, Texas? What prices should I expect to pay? thanks,
  • rick1957rick1957 Member Posts: 6
I was wondering that the deal is. I submitted a request for a price quote on a 2008 EX model because I wanted a few more options than the LX. The Internet Manager contacted me and said he would search his database for a van with the options I wanted. If I didn't receive a call back that day, he would call me the following morning.

Yesterday, I was called by the dealer to make a VIP appointment. I questioned what they could do for me that a Salesman couldn't and was told they streamline the sale.

I haven't received the quote yet (2 days after the request) and the appointment is Saturday.

I'm suspicious. Do you think they can't meet the request and are trying to hurdle me into a meeting for a high pressure sale where I end up the loser. Last night I sent the Internet Manager an E-mail asking him what the s_ _ _ is this. I don't expect an answer.

I owe $12,000 on my 2007. I has 16,000 miles on it and I am pre-approved for a $19,000 loan by Honda. I think I have some negotiating power.

If you guys could give me some ideas about what you think is going on, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

You hit the nail on the head. They are merely trying to get you in so that they can put the screws to you. I NEVER go to the dealer until I know that they have, or will get, the exact car I want and that I can get it for a price I am willing to pay. New cars are like commodities today--you don't have to see a pork belly to know what it's worth (and you can bet traders aren't going out to the farm to see what they're buying).

My advice to you is to locate the van you want online. E-mail several dealers with an accurate description of your trade-in, and ask them for their best trade difference. (Some people will tell you not to reveal that you have a trade until you have a firm price on the new car; I agree, but only if you are willing to pay the dealer's best price on the new car and sell your old car privately. Otherwise, you're just making the deal more complicated than it needs to be.). Tell them right up front you are shopping around but are ready, willing, and able to buy TODAY. Don't tell any dealer what you owe, what you are pre-approved for, or mention a payment range. Once you have found a deal you are happy with, make the dealer fax or e-mail you an offer sheet. They probably won't send you a signed purchase order until they see your trade, but you should have no problem getting a solid number on it. Now that you have a semi-firm deal, give the other dealers one chance to beat with the promise to buy it today.

By the way, if you can wait until December, the prices will be better. I've bought four Odysseys since 2001 and they have always been much more expensive in the first few months on sale. I've said this in several posts before so I hope I don't bore you--the day to buy is December 26th. It's in the middle of the slowest week at the end of the month and year. Go in the evening and hope it rains. You'll get the real VIP treatment because you may be the only customer they have that night.

Thanks to pankaj for providing me the quotes he got from Castle Honda.
I went to Honda of Joliet and the sales person there larry was very harsh. I had quotes from the internet(pankaj's). When I called him he told me that he would match the internet price that I got from another dealer (I told him the price I got on the phone), But after going there he said he can not match the price as it is too low and startted giving me stories. Finally I went to another Honda Dealer in chicagoland area and got the EXL-RES/NAV for 28400+TTL (Also has All Weather package. Dest charges included). The same van was quoted at 29300+TTL at joliet of Honda Not willing to match the above price. Honda of Joliet was willing to give the EXL-RES for 27299+TTL. Honda of Lisle's pricing is close to Honda of Joliet.

Got a deal for 26K on a 07 Odyssey EX-L at Capitol Honda in Bay Area and went with 5.49% financing with my credit union. I think I got a good deal.
  • mohansbmohansb Member Posts: 4
OTD price was $ 28,442 (TTL fees) and the 26K included destination charge. Ex-L with No DVD/Navi.
  • nnsuchnnsuch Member Posts: 5
Could you please tell me the Chicago area dealer that gave you the 07 EX-L with RES/NAV at $28400? Thanks.
  • tsteele93tsteele93 Member Posts: 18
I just got an 07 Ody, Silver/Gray Touring with RES & NAV at Breakaway Honda in Greenville, SC.

I went with the 07 because of the rebates and no one was dealing on the 08's yet.

    $33,137 (includes destination charge)
    + 199 doc fee
    + 207 lock lugs/splash guards

$33,543 + tax, tag and title transfer.

One of the easier car buying experiences I have ever been involved with.

Breakaway appears to be one of the better "follow-up" and "customer service oriented" dealers I have had the pleasure of doing business with. Highly recommend them.

So can't believe i found the last blk on blk in florida and lost it by ten minutes! I took ten minutes to (by phone)negotiated another $200 out of the deal cause of minor accessories it didn't have; and someone bought it on the spot out under me!!! Of course I'd pay another 500 or so now for that blk. But I like the Slate green on blk too. And I'm now getting a better deal because it has great accessories. Also it turns out there is a couple light scratches on both rear and front bumpers, which i hope to neg. 300 to 500 off as well. Does 300 - 500 sound like enough? Maybe I will start higher!

Thanks to this site for the great advantage in negotiating deals!

I've got this van overnight as a loaner so if anyone has better deals let me know! Of course color does matter to me.

If anyone can stretch and get a touring over ex-l; I must say if feels good get everything and not looking back at if only I got that other one! And I started out at an striped down ex-l! Of course that before I found this site... I think the dealer had me at around 31,000 otd For another 100 a mo. I got everything in the touring. Of course i'm going to sleep on it tonight!
  • allison04allison04 Member Posts: 10
The 25800 included destination but not tax, title, and doc fee.
  • donkeypunch1donkeypunch1 Member Posts: 119
Iron, don't get me wrong..I'm not trying to "harsh your gig" but want to make sure that new car smell isn't getting to you.
Unless you actually saw someone pull the rug out from under you on the blk/blk, it was most likely a story to get you in the door. "you made it here...bummer someone just bought the thing, here go ahead and drive this one". Now if you saw someone roll off the lot in the blk on blk, I take that above remark back. But if you didn't your sitting in a touring with a color you dont care for, thinking about pulling the trigger on a new car with scratches!?

Secondly, your $100 more a month is highly dependent upon your finance rate and term (how long your financing the thing for). I did a back of the envelope and at 60 months, your payment is probably more like 140-170 more a month. (assuming 25,5 on exl and 32,500 on touring).

Before you pull the trigger, really ask yourself if the additional ammenities you get in the touring provide you the value your looking for 24 months from now, when the new car luster is long gone and your still heading into 3 more years of payments. Maybe your answer is "he double L yes!"...but just ask yourself this.

Now factor in that your rolling into the holidays 2 years from now and your PAX Tires with 35,000 on them need to be replaced and your looking at $1200 instead of $400 and the wifes looking to take a vacation after the new year. Still feeling that new car high?

Again, I'm not knocking you at all, I pull the same moves and sometimes live to regret. Just think it all the way through before you take the plunge. The 7K+ most likely isn't just a hundo more and your insurance and maitenance (tires minimally) are going to be more.

Think it through, don't make an emotional purchase. If at the end of the day you feel the value and the long term advantages, ignore my nosey as% and pull the trigger!

    Whatever you do, enjoy.

Run from that dealer. Real world VIP's have so much discretionary funds they aren't worried about getting bent over on a car purchase. They'd be happy to treat you like a VIP and have you do the same. Seriously, ignore them.

Check out post 16934, follow it and you'll do ok.

does the extended warranty from bernardiwarranty work everywhere like in southern california?
  • rick1957rick1957 Member Posts: 6
Because of your great advice, I called Honda Finance and explained to them (quote) I think they're trying to screw me. They were very nice about it and said I can use the pre-approval at any Honda dealer. They also gave me some pointers on contracts and recommended that I check out other dealers. I put out the request again to see who else bites.

    Thanks again.

I just purchased a 2007 EX-L for 28135 out of the door on 10/8/07. The dealership was Colonial Honda and they were very good. I got the quote through the internet and test drove my car. Financing was through a credit union and this irked the F&I manager. He was not too pleased when I denied all extended warranties.

I live in MD (near laurel).

May I know what are the list of options you had.
  • ironmantkironmantk Member Posts: 10
Yeah I know what your saying and I do have some friends reminding me too. the 100 a mo. is on an ex-l res nav deal but sure the best value is the ex-l. one of the motivating factors for me is that we don't take vacation often; and when we go some place new its always where to go, eat, and how to get there! so the nav I think will pay off and I just don't want to bother with aftermarket junk. I did sleep on it and feel good about pulling the trigger; however i'm waiting for a few quotes to come in on 08 touring! Don't ask why. I guess I do like that new car smell! So far it looks like an additional 4,000 which you know will fall very shortly. My wife is getting a van today, this is all just too much for her and I like state green just fine. Off to the dealer now. whish me luck on those scratches saving me money.

Venkat did you have a trade in? Helping a friend purchase and St. Charles is at 28,195 + TTL for just an EXL RES (no nav). RES NAV is 30,195 + TTL. Both prices are seriously high compared to other quotes. He won't even do EXL RES for 27,100 + TTL let alone your price for exlres nav. Whats the catch? Trade in? Who was the sales person?

    IronMan,

Read donkeypunch's posts. Also, I bought 07 Touring R&N in Tampa; $32,650 including destination ($35k OTD). I wanted the black/black when only 4 in state, but no one would deal. After we bought, gray/olive iw/ more accessories, several dealers tried to get me to buy their blk/blk. I dealt w/ Kuhn inTampa, but Lakeland (Regal) has the lowest dealer fees around. work them, dont let them work you! you are in control of the negotiations until you sign the paperwork.
  • venkat2venkat2 Member Posts: 6
There was no trade in. I did the transaction through internet. I talked to the internet specialist there and went through him. The date when I closed the deal was on Oct 30th. The person I was dealing with was Todd. I called him and he said get your quotes that you received from the other dealor and he said he will match it. I took them and sure he matched it.
    No haggles at all.
  • allison04allison04 Member Posts: 10
Did you go to Honda of Joliet before or after my post? I did not buy our Exl until 10/31. Started the process with all of the internet quotes about a week before. Did not work with the one you mentioned so I did have a much better experience with them. Are you happy with your van now? I really like it alot and am glad we went with the leather because I am enjoying the heated seats! It is getting cold here near Chicago.
  • lethbridgelethbridge Member Posts: 3
Agree with Tampahonda on dealing with Lakeland/Regal Honda. Many of their 07s were still arriving as of a week ago, so they really have the full holdback to worth with... I'd keep that in mind at least for negotiating... Good luck!
  • venkat2venkat2 Member Posts: 6
I went to Honda of Joliet on Oct 30th. Jim London was on vaccation and so had to talk to larry who is his sub. Yes I am very much happy with the van. The only mistake I did when dealing with Honda of Joliet is I told them that I was looking for Slate Green color and I do not want to go with any other color.
Valley Honda and Honda of Lisle point blank on the phone told me that they can not match the price.
  • donkeypunch1donkeypunch1 Member Posts: 119
Venkat, would appreciate if you could send me the quote you got Todd to match and his email. Friend of mine is right next to St. Charles and would like to buy there but guy he's working with is way out of line with his prices. andrew_ymail@yahoo.com appreciate it.

    Located in Western Massachusetts...

Priced 08 Touring (Black on Tan) NON - PAX

    Invoice is 36,214 + 635 destination

    I offered 37,000 + 635 destination = 37,635
... and the dealer took it with no counter.

Then for curiousity, I asked about leases:
    3 yrs/ 12 K - EVERYTHING rolled into lease - taxes, fees, everything:

Residual: 57% (again this is an 08)
    money factor: .00131 (3.14%)

    total permonth payment: $570
(the above payment also includes about $600 in accesories (splash guards, wood dash and fender guards)

    Opinions?

    thanks.
