everyone is tripping over the same customer to see who can take the biggest hit to capture a customer. Pretty sad I don't mean any disrespect (esp since your screenname implies you are a dealer!), but not sure I understand what part is sad... That dealers are selling at net? Personally I kinda like it! Aren't these the same dealers who are more than willing to sell at MSRP plus $1000 when times are good? Hopefully they have set some of those dollars aside for when the economy hiccups. ;)
  • derricksonderrickson Member Posts: 131
I agree. Pretty much answered my own question after posting. I did not incur any damages as a result of the misquote, so the law would not be in my favor. Imagine the line gets fuzzier when the misquote is more in line with "real" numbers.
  • derricksonderrickson Member Posts: 131
Yes, I think this is a good number. Looks to be a price of close to $30,500 plus ttl. The lowest bids I had in the Houston area for res/nav ranged from 30,200 - 30,600 plus ttl. Looked like my best bid of 30,200 did not have it in stock. ...but ended up getting a deal on the Touring anyway.
  • nkyhondankyhonda Member Posts: 8
The purchase price on the EX-L with RES was 28,500 at a 6% sales tax which added 1,710 to the price at 2.9% apr. Out the door total was 30,210. That was at Honda East in Anderson, OH. My zip is 41075. I had 2 dealerships that would match the offer (Wyler, and Superior), but not the trade in. I had 6 dealerships that would not touch the deal. I just read an article in the Cincinnati Enquirer today stating dealership sales are in the toilet due to the economy. I believe it stated Honda's sales are down 5%. There is no reason why anyone couldn't get this deal with a little hard work. It's a buyers market. Have had the van for 4 days now. Love it , execpt the gas mileage. No regrets.

What was your deal on the Touring?
  • janebug712janebug712 Member Posts: 8
Seems to me if it is such a buyers market there would not have been 6 dealers that wouldn't touch it. Did you have a trade. They may have made you think you only paid $28500 or...they may not be interested in you at all if you have any concerns after the sale. Sometimes, you get what you pay for.
  • derricksonderrickson Member Posts: 131
Not sure how much of a "deal" it was, but it was the best I was able to come up with. My target for the Touring throughout was $34K + TTL. This works out to be (Invoice minus 2% MSRP less 2000 incentive). Received several offers below $34.5K, but noone ever reached my $34K. Ended up paying $34.2 + TTL -- no additional fees. Includes wheel locks, rubber trunk mat, and a few x-tra sets of wireless headphones. We also found this deal to be the best since they're bid for our trade-in was significantly better than both other dealers as well as Carmax.

Dont get me wrong. I'm an internet manager and I see the tide shifting. The problems is getting the decision makers on my side (which as it turns out is your side).

There is a greater problem looming however. Honda has increased production across the board, as a result of increased production there is a glut of new Honda vehicles available. Gone are the days when Honda was happy selling 700,000 units when both the consumer and dealer were happy to sell the car at MSRP. Because when it came time to sell, the car was worth it's weight in gold. Resale values used to be pretty high, but now - not so much. Wholesale auction prices on Honda lease returns has taken a hit in the last year.

Welcome to the new Honda, we're no better then Toyota now.

Resale values used to be pretty high, but now - not so much. Thanks for the response & additional information. I really find this industry very interesting, and am always curious about all the factors that play into the buy/sell equation.

Regarding resale values, I know we started our search for a Touring at Carmax. But when we saw their "no haggle price" on used vehicles such as this: http://www.carmax.com/dyn/factsheet/factsheet.aspx?KNo=0 selling for what we could purchase a brand new one for, we just shook our head. I guess that is further proof to the glut of new vehicles sitting on the lot.

Has anyone purchased a 2008 Odyssey EXL with RES or EXL with RES/NAV in the past month. Either at AutoPark and or Leith. We are looking to purchase in the next week or so and want to compare sales price without trade in value included. I have seen prices in the range of $28k - $30K depending on with or w/o Nav. MSRP is 34,445 and 36,445(with Nav)

    Thank you for any help!!!!

Hi there. Anyone have experience purchasing from Jim Coleman Honda in Clarksville, MD? I was quoted $28,984 +TTL and $100 processing fee for a EXL w/RES and NAV. Has anyone gotten a better deal in the Baltimore area? Thanks...
  • soufflepdxsoufflepdx Member Posts: 2
Who did you deal with at Gresham Honda? Wanting to purchase a Honda EX-L. Please let me know.

  • derricksonderrickson Member Posts: 131
We're not in MD, but assuming the $28,984 includes the $635 destination charge (and even if it doesnt), that looks to be a great number. If it includes destination, their offer is over $4000 below invoice. In my area, I could net get anyone to beat $3000 under invoice. Congrats!

I never could find which dealership you got this deal from. Did you use the financing?

Sure can walk to it from my house, although I love the burger mania at 915.

Did the $28500 include any add-ons/extras? I'm currently shopping in the Cinci area for an EX-L w/RES and best quote I've gotten so far has been from Performance Honda $28815 (incl. dest) - my initial internet quote from Honda East was $29629. How much did you have to negotiate to get to the $28500? Did you complete most of the deal over internet? Thanks!
  • bertabongbertabong Member Posts: 10
Was that offer with or without financing?
  • janderso_janderso_ Member Posts: 1
Just purchased EX-L (no RES or NAV) with trailer hitch (towing package) for $29,500 including TTL. Greenville, SC. Also got a lifetime powertrain warranty to boot.
Used Consumer Reports pricing info + what I leared in this forum to get to this price.
Trailer hitch will be installed next week.
Dealer did not like the fact that I was not financing through them, but so what?
  • nkyhondankyhonda Member Posts: 8
No the the 28500 was the total price including destination. The initial price quote I got was for 28721 from the internet dept at Wyler. I was able to shop that around at various dealerships by calling and through the internet till I got to 28500. I didn't leave the house till I got the deal I wanted. Call another dealership and tell them your best deal was 28721 and then when they match it go lower to the next one you call. Once you step foot on the lot you are on their turf, and the pressure to impulse but begins.

I purchased last Thursday night at Gwinnett Place Honda. All of the people there were great to work with. I actually felt like the salesman was working for me to get me the best price possible.

    I paid $25840
    + 635 Dest Fee
    + 399 Doc Fee
    + 6% Gwinnett Sales Tax
    + 28 Title Fee
    + 3 Lemon Law Fee

I told them that I had 4.5% financing available from an outside source (I actually only had 4.94%) and they offered me 4.19%.

The car was the basic EXL with the dealer options of special paint protection, mud guards, and sunroof visor. These options are MSRP of $1,095.00 at this dealership. He quickly offered me these options for $400.00 when I balked. He eventually worked it out and we got to the agreed to price when I said that I did not want any of the options and would like for him to remove them.

Good luck with your purchase(s). I would definetly recommend going to this dealership.

    Hondaace,

Bought an EXL from AutoPark Honda (they are owned by the same umbrella company as Leith Honda). See my posts in this thread (18639 and 18941) on steps I took to get my price. I found them to be great to deal with once you had a firm quote from a competitor in hand. The original offers they gave through the quote generation tool on Honda.com were at least $1K greater.

When I went to sign the papers, just for laughs I asked them to value my trade (99 Accord with 105K miles and original timing belt). They offered $4K less than I ended up selling it for on Craigslist a week later. Of course, they were just going to wholesale auction my old car - so I wasnt expecting a good offer. Still amazed that a 9 yr old Accord (in need of a $700 service) sold for 35% of its original purchase price.

Hello, I recently went to a dealer in Muskegon, MI and walked out after a couple of hours of bargaining, with a price of 31,563. This includes foglights, splash guards, crossbars, cargo net and destination and handling. I will have to pay tax, title and license fee on top of that. Tax...$1,906, title 15, License fee $32 and doc fee 180. They also gave us a trade in value on our 2006 Odyssey of 20,500 (EX-L w/RES and 36,500 miles, in pretty good condition, but not mint..have 3 kids)...which we thought was a pretty good deal considering the economy of our state. Would love to hear your opinions on this. Thanks so much! :D

I got a quote from Hueys Honda for the EX-L for $29K + TTL with 2.9% financing for 48 or 60 months.. They also offered $2,500 for my 1999 Odessy. From what I'm seeing here, I could do much better. What are the deals people are finding in the St. Louis, Mo. area? Please post.
    Thanks.

Got offered this in Baltimore area!!
  • jshijshi Member Posts: 3
    Thanks, Which dealer?
  • derricksonderrickson Member Posts: 131
I'll pitch out my 2 cents... $31,500 sounds a bit high on the high side to me. Unsure about the extras they added, but except for foglights, the rest look like items they could throw in for free if they wanted the deal bad enough? I received a low offer of $30,200 for the EX-L with both RES AND NAV, including destination. They also offered to throw in the rr trunk mat, wheel locks, mats. So it is this quote I am comparing to yours. Hope this info helps!

Cinc i, Deal with Performance on the last day of the month, you'll get the lowest price then. email me and I can give you a good person to talk to there.

We bought our Pilot that way and it made a big difference.

Bought an 08 EX-L with NAV and RES From Classic Honda in Orlando.

    $29,800
+ 500 Protection Package (Wheel Locks, Mudguards, Trunk mat, etc)
    + TTL

I think it was around $6500 under MSRP so I thought it was a decent deal. BTW they would not do 2.9 financing at that price.

Gathering quotes from dealers in SW Michigan on an 08 EXL RES & NAV. What extras should we be asking for? I see wheel locks, mats and trunk mats. Since we have 3 kids, I'll be asking for an extra headset too. Any input would be appreciated!
  • derricksonderrickson Member Posts: 131
We're not in MI, but we did get our dealer to include those extras at no charge. Regarding the extra headset, we actually asked for, (and were given) three extra sets of headphones. Figured that way we were covered for our 3 kids plus 2 of their friends. Plus, at $80 a piece, thought it was a good way to extract a bit more from the deal. ;)
  • rwhkjhrwhkjh Member Posts: 8
Was initially quoted $30,246.87 + TTL for EX-L RES & Nav. Now they are coming back saying that was incorrect, that's for the EX-L RES, no Nav. The EX-L RES & Nav is $32,054.13 + TTL They will do the protection package ($416) & headsets at their cost ($79/each). Sounds high to me. What are your thoughts? Our local dealer has offered to match any quote that we have in writing.
  • derricksonderrickson Member Posts: 131
Sounds to me like they're playing ya, and decided they wanted to make an extra $2000 on your deal. :) I had AT LEAST a half dozen dealers in my area ALL willing to sell an EX-L RES / NAV for anywhere between $30,600 down to $30,200, plus TTL.. In addition, invoice (RES/NAV) is $33,054. If you subtract the $2000 dealer incentive & 2% of msrp, that works out to be $30,325. I would really walk away from their offer. I would also call BS on their "protection pkg". They can throw all that in for free. ;) Tell them you will pay their $32,500.... for a Touring! :shades:

Do you have an e-mail quote or some proof of this purchase price with the 2.9 financing?

My wife and I have decided we want a silver Touring w/o PAX. We haven't been in the new car shopping game for 11 years. Does anyone have any insight (or just opinions) about the best time to buy?

My understanding is that it is unusual for Honda to offer dealer incentives. That only recently have Odysseys sold for less than MSRP. Is that correct?

From reading the entries here it appears that ~$35,000 base price + dest and 0.9% 36 month financing is possible for a Touring. Is that correct? Is it likely that better deals would be available at the end of the model year? At the end of the calendar year?

In looking at dealer inventories, it appears that our local dealer (Duncan Honda, Christiansburg VA) has an unusual number of Tourings (11). The Blacksburg/Christmas area is approx 60,000 people. However. it appears that none of them is Silver w/o PAX. Would that make any difference?
  • memphist0memphist0 Member Posts: 2
Sadly, that sounds about right. The dealers don't use the $2000 to discount the vehicle if you take the 2.9 financing. It almost always a better deal to take the $2000 off the price. You can find your own financing between 4.5 and 5.7 if you look around
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
I bought my '05 Touring for invoice three years ago. Incentives started awhile back. No need to wait, prices are great and you should easily be able buy one for less than 35K.
  • nkyhondankyhonda Member Posts: 8
otd was 30,210. This included ohio's 6% sales tax. I am not sure about California's price inflation, but if it's anything like the price of houses out there, the 34 K might be a good deal. I wish I could be of more help. It might help to price dealerships with in a reasonable driving distance, let's say 6hrs. Because of where I live, I was able to price dealerships in Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio. Maybe you could price dealerhips in Nevada, or at least in a cheaper part of California, If that exists? Wish I could be of more help.
  • 63hokie63hokie Member Posts: 8
    Thanks, that's good to know.

As I understand it, it's either ~$35,000 and 0.9% financing or ~$34,000 and normal financing, but the current dealer incentives expire in July.

We would really like to wait up to a year (paying off a kid's school loan), but can buy earlier to take advantage of a good deal.

I guess I'm looking for opinions on whether or not we should take advantage of these dealer incentives, or are they likely to continue or even get better.
  • derricksonderrickson Member Posts: 131
Is it likely that better deals would be available at the end of the model year? At the end of the calendar year?

Is it likely? Absolutely. Is it also likely they eliminate the current incentives? Absolutely. Kind of a tough call. As the previous post mentions, prices are pretty good right now. We bought our Touring a couple weeks ago for close to $34K + ttl. That's $6K under MSRP (although that is not a good barometer of a good deal).

I imagine dealers will likely have "end of year clearance", "model year closeouts", "inventory reduction" sales. The question is how much of a "sale" it will really be. That said, it's certainly no secret the economy is in the toilet, and people aren't exactly lining up to purchase $40K vehicles. We purchased our Ody during a weekday, and had the ENTIRE dealership to ourselves. The place was a ghost town. So it would not surprise me if the incentives at least continue, if not get sweeter as the year progresses.

I am looking to buy Odyssey EX-L with RES.. What would be the best price with Honda 2.9% Financing for 60 months. I live in Indiana and I can travel to Cincinnati for good deal.
