I got an email this morning from the guy at Ourisman in Bethesda. This is the guy who could never give me a straight quote.
Ok. If you haven't bought the car yet, my last offer is that I will beat any offer you have by $100 up to $500.
I am done messing around. As someone said, average prices being paid are around $30k so I feel I'm getting a good deal. I don't trust that this guy can beat $30k. I'm just going to ignore him and be done with it this weekend when I sign the papers.
Interesting note at the bottom of Criswell's emails:

That's exactly what happened to me at Coleman and I didn't even realize it initially. That guy had told me there might be a couple hundred dollars worth of installed accessories on the car in stock and it ended up amounting to over $800 worth! :P
Where do you find information on dealer holdback, etc? I got lucky and had an honest dealer or two tell me. Is it the same amount for all trim levels? If so, you could calculate the rock bottom price by subtracting from the invoice on the EX-L w/RES dealer cash and holdback of $2,000 and $1,253 respectively.
I'm in OKC and getting price from OK and TX. Is that your OTD price? My best OTD price so far is in OK for $28,900. We might be able to get a better deal if we buy together. Give me you email if you want to.

The $1K kicker to use Honda financing seems sort of BS which I plan to call him on. If you did do your deal above, it seems just a little bit better. BTW, I'm getting a very similar deal from Fairfax so I think we're pushing them to the limit (within a couple hundred dollars). Let us know how you do.

Actually that's how Honda has the dealer incentive set up. Without Honda finance, the dealer gets $2000, with the special finance rates, they only get $1000.
Yeah, it's makes more sense to take the $2K cash and use your own financing. You pay less. I'm getting 4.74% from SECU of MD (www.secumd.org). If you meet their membership requirements (SECU), including attending certain MD schools, you can join and get a good rate.
Here's a good loan calculator to compare special financing to cash back. Use the $1,000 rebate for the reduced-rate financing column.
I bought a 2007 Honday Odyssey EX-L w/ NAV & RES, backup CAMERA and all the works!!
Here's the catch: IT HAS 92,000 MILES ON IT!!!
But for $18,000, the dealer threw in a 100,000 miles (in addition to current miles)/5 yr powertrain warranty, so its 192,000 miles or 5 yrs warranty for the engine trasmission and water pump components.
The car is in PERFECT physiscal condition. The car runs like a typical 1 year old car, no sign or sound of a 92K mileage. Everything works, detailed to the fullest and looks just like a brand new car, the engine is so clean you can eat on it!
In summary, the car looks and runs like a 2007 EXL with about 20k. The only visible setback (aside from the mileage) is that the two front tires are worn out, replacement is around $300.
Is this a good deal? I can post the car's online page if you guys want to see it.

Yes. We paid $34.2K, and had several REAL offers btwn $34K & 34.5K (+ TTL)
Another good "rule of thumb":
Invoice less incentives less (2% MSRP)
For Touring that equates to: 36849 - 2000 - 812 = $34,037
That's a good target, but YMMV (better or worse)...
I bought from Criswell Honda in Germantown MD. The price was what they said, no tricks or gimmicks. I added mud flaps and the moonroof visor for $316.99 total. My wife and I are heading back later so she can sign and then we can both get the instructions on the car.
They were able to give me a better rate than my credit union and I went with the bumper to bumper "disappearing deductible" extended warranty. It was a little more than the one I was going to get but my overall payments are still a little less.

$316.99 (I guess that should be $31.699k) is the OTD price for EXL with RES and Navigation system? In addition, how is your financial issue? Have you get honda incentive finacial rate? Please let me know!

I came in with a 4.74% credit union rate and I with my downpayment they were able to give me a rate of 4.34%. The extended warranty was $165 more than what I was going to get through the credit union but I'm still paying less over the life of the loan. And this warranty is bumper to bumper including wear and tear.
They were not able to come close to Carmax or We Buy Cars on the trade so I'm going to take a shot at selling it myself first. The salesman thinks I could get $3,500 for my '94 Accord.
I am getting a quote of 28,000 for honda odyssey EXL (standard options) in Seattle area. Is this a good price?

I am new to this forum.
I am researching 2008 Honda Odyssey EX-L with NAV and RES. For Northern California:
Invoice = $33054 (incl. destination charge)
Edmunds.com TMV = $31757 (incl. dest charge)
Carsdirect.com price = $31745 (incl. dest charge)
Dealer quote = $30000 (incl. destination charge)
So dealer quote is $3054 LESS than invoice!! Is this surprising or is it normal these days? Am I being setup for some unexplained charges when I sit at the negotiating table?
The dealer quoted $30000 right off the bat and I think he is willing to negotiate (based on his emails) to earn my business. Am I in a position to get him to agree to a lower price? How low should I go? How do I do that? Or should I just take the deal?

If a buyer opts for an EW offered by ABC Warranty Company, what is the buyer to do if the insurer denies a claim or goes belly up?
It's a safe bet that Honda Motor Company will be around for awhile.
Also, how do they get to the 24,512, Is it invoice and incentives? No one seemed willing to spill the beans at the dealers yet.
We plan to lease so im, not sure the above figure will fit for me anyway if it has incentives?

So that's $31,030 (this is what I was measuring between dealers)
Add to that: $930.90 VA tax and $93.50 tag fee = $32,054.40 Out The Door and On The Road.
Dealer notes:
Herson's (Rockville): They got the deal. Original quote was lowest and then came down to beat all competitors. On the invoice they listed about $400 in dealer installed options (wheel locks and paint matched moldings) but they provided an overall discount to bring it down to their quoted price. A little odd, but that passes my "no surprises" test. Of course I was offered extended warranty, lojack, etc. at signature time but was not heavily pressured. We bought a Mitsubishi from their sister dealership back in 2000 because they went the lowest.
Criswell (Gaithersburg): Close 2nd. Original quote was competitive and they were willing to go within a few bucks of the low offer. Internet sales rep was quite professional and indicated he was sincere about his (very close) clean deal and would be ready if I got any unexpected add ons from the low offerer.
Rosenthal Fairfax: Original internet quote was in the running, but their dealer fees are high ($880 vs. $100 for the MD guys). Their sales staff was courteous and professional in both their phone and email contacts with me. They did drop their price when pressed but still couldn't get close enough to save me the trip to Maryland (I'm out by Dulles in VA). Guess what, if they would've matched those discounted fees from the MD guys I would've bought from them. BTW, this is who Costco referred me to for their Auto Buying program.
Leesburg Honda: I would really have liked to buy my car from them since I can just about ride my bike to the dealership, but they were just not competitive (more than $3000 off). I even called the sales guy to see if he would match other offers he said he couldn't get close. He was a nice enough guy and kept in touch to see if any of the low guys tried some hokey surprises but I just don't think his management gave him enough rope to work with.
Bottom line: Get internet quotes from several dealers. Look on this forum to see what similar cars are going for. See who's willing to deal. Low bar starts with invoice, then gets lowered by incentives and if you can get a dealer to dig into hold-back you've probably bottomed out. I feel like I got a good deal. I hope you do to.
This was calculated as follows:
-Dealer Invoice of $26,229 (before destination)
-Plus 1% of dealer invoice for Honda Ad Fee of $262
-Plus destination of $635
-Less hold back given to buyer of $579
-Less $2000 dealer cash incentive given to buyer of $2000
For a total of $24,547, plus TTL
Look at post #18973 for more details on what I paid for TTL.
With that said, your quote appears to be in the range for a fair deal on an EX.
Note sure how leasing will play in to the equation.

I remember reading somewhere (cannot remember if it was on the CR website, or here on this forum, or on the main Edmunds page) that the holdback really doesn't necessarily have to be passed down to the consumer. Also, the $2k Dealer Cash is the same way from what I was reading... if it were a $2k CUSTOMER REBATE, they have to give it to you, but the Dealer Cash is like their incentive from the manufacturer to sell a vehicle, but not necessarily money for the consumer to "use" when negotiating a price.
Don't take this as the Gospel until you do more research though... We've found that this forum was very useful in negotiating our price, but as a consumer, and the one who every month will be paying on the vehicle, it's up to you to research, research, and research again to make sure you don't get a lousy deal. GOOD LUCK!!!!
So far, the best quotes are $34,964 from Hendrick Honda in Charlotte (3 1/2 hours away) and $35,261 from Rule Honda in Staunton Va (2 hours away in the opposite direction).
The next best is $35,784 from Asheboro NC Honda.

Assuming the car cost before dealer incentives is $30,000 and a loan term of 60 months:
2.9% financing, $1,000 dealer cash ($29,000 loan) = Total Repaid: $31,188.00 (interest: $2,188, payment: $519.80)
4.9% financing*, $2,000 dealer cash ($28,000 loan) = Total Repaid: $31,626.60 (interest: $3,626.60, payment: $527.11)
*4.9% is actually somewhat low. CapitalOne is at 5.29%. Navy Federal Credit Union is at 5.0%.
So you're saving $438.60 total over the life of the loan to go with the 2.9%. In order to get below the total repaid value going with the 2.9%, I'd need to get down to 4.3% financing, which I haven't seen anywhere available to me.
As a side note, I'm looking at a 2008 Odyssey EX-L w/ RES. I've gone donkeypunch style and the best I've gotten so far is $29,500 OTD with $2,000 dealer cash ($28,200 price including destination).
