dandrews1...from what I understand, you cannot get integrated satellite radio on a Cayenne prior to the 2005 model. I suppose you can get an aftermarket unit (for XM, Terk Commander) via FM modulator route. Can't really verify, though, whether or not this is an option on '04.
Can anyone advise me on a tire with "lasting" ability for my 2004 Cayenne S? The last set of high performance, speed rated radials only lasted 4 months (a girl can get better performance out of a pair of Manolo Blahniks!!)! This is with normal city driving, nothing off road. At this rate, with no tire warranty available and the dealer's outrageous prices; the vehicle makes no sense. Please help.
I posted this past summer on the high end luxury board that I didn't notice many S Classes, 7 Series, or anything else even approaching luxury in Montreal (I spend a fair amount of time there on business). My thinking was that the modest Canadians wanted no part of conspicuous consumption and that with your winters you were too busy watching hockey to be out on the 44 in a Bentley GT.
Your post about inexplicably higher MSRPs coupled with your horrendous taxes may better explain this. I do though see far fewer big SUVs and pickups in Quebec, even in rural areas, than I would expect. So, there must be something to the Canadian as a modest sort idea afterall.
My set of continentals lasted about 25,000 miles...with some aggressive driving and stopping , but mostly normal driving...
the issue is that with heavier vehicles, more aggressive driving, or if you live or drive in hilly areas, there will be more wearing of brakes and tires.
Hi guys, I'm trying to change the main wipers on my 05 Cayenne S. Unlike other cars, the wiper holder is also made of rubber rather than metal with grooves. Is there a way just to change the blades, or do you need to buy a whole new assembly? If you can just change the blades, how do I get the end caps off the wiper blade holder in order to do this? Regards, Steve
I am looking at an 06 Turbo with the integrated phone option. Does anyone have an opinion about the sound quality? Am I better off with a bluetooth kit?
Lesa, My stock 18 " Contis didnt last very long either, so after a lot of research I went out and bought 4 Michelin Energy Plus MXV4+ size 255/55HR18 tires. I had 11,000 miles on my 2004 Cay S when I purchased the Michelins and I now have 39,000+ miles on my Cay and the tires still have probably another 8-10,000 miles left in them. The tires ride better than the contis as well. They are also all weather tires. They have a slightly lower load range though for trailering. I am very pleased with these tires and highly recomend them. Glad I can help.
Hey Highender, These michelins really are outstanding, I think they are probably the best fit for the CAY S due to the long wear and the smooth ride with all season attributes. They are not cheap but are actually about the same price as the contis that came with the CAY. :shades:
There are many luxury cars in the montreal area. That's where I live, and I see them every day. It certainly isn't south beach miami, but it's very acceptable. I own a Cayenne, a V6. I had a friend of mine import it from the states. Saved about 10 large. I'm changing it for a Cayenne S and will import that one too.
Taxes have nothing to do with the msrp's. I beleive it's the fact that all the big corps know that the US dollar will hit 1.50CAD to 1 USdollar and then it will all make sense again.
Sorry, I didn't to imply that your taxes affect MSRP, just that the high level of taxation (e.g., isn't it effectively 30% on a purchase-split equally between Ottawa and the Province?)and relatively low wages reduce the ability to buy a HELM.
Canada has what the world wants: natural resources (oil, coal), cheap power (wind and hydro), a foreign policy that doesn't offend, etc. I think its economy will do well and its dollar not weaken.
the cayenne brakes done....I heard it is about $400 plus to have the brake pads done...and every other brake job it needs the rotors changed....and dealer price is $1000 .
I just found a former Porsche mechanic that did the whole job....for only $700. SO you guys can save a few if you look around for reputable shops that are willing to outbid dealers.
my regular mechanic had a hard time getting the parts for the Cayenne brakes....so is it a monopoly ?
I am looking at buying a 2004 Cayenne with 20,000 miles equipped with Nav, Turbo 18 rims, PCM, CD changer. Price is $48,000. I want some advice on the car's reliability and whether people think the price is fair.
Hi Juris... I have a 2005 model Cayenne S (built 2004) with 23000 miles, PCM II(DVD based), heated seats (4), memory seating, 18" wheels, xenon lights, brand new tires, tow hitch, ..
I assume you are buying a Cayenne S (V8) not Cayenne (v6)?
I would want low 50's for mine so I guess that car being a tad older with similar options and mileage to mine is a good buy at 48K. As long as it has full logbooks and it looks good etc etc. I'd say go for it.
Mine has been a great delight to drive... I just wish the gearbox was a bit smoother when downchanging as you approach the traffic lights at a slow pace (10-15miles/hour)..otherwise it's a great car! Check the brake pads..if it's been a city driven car, it might soon be time for pad replacement on all 4 wheels.
I have a blackberry phone and would love to be able to use it hands free thru my Cayenne NAV, has anyone done it? If so how? The NAV has a voice button, but it is not active. The Tequipment booklet I picked up at my Porsche dealer says there is a module for PCM that adds GSM telephone functionality. Anyone know what that means? Thanks for anyones help! :confuse:
A national newspaper is looking to interview consumers who have had to replace a car key, which ended up costing over $200 or $300. Please send an e-mail to ctalati@edmunds.com no later than Monday, April 2, 2006 containing your daytime contact information, the cost to replace your key along with the make and model your vehicle.
Hi all- Just traded in my '04 545 for an '04 Carmon Red Cayenne S. I went the CPO route because I didn't want to take the double depreciation hit. Anyway, the Cayenne S is a great car. I don't feel like I've given up anything in performance. On tip to pass on that I found on another forum somewhere. If you're having the problem with condensation in the headlights that many Cayenne's have (including mine) there is an easy fix for it. If you take out the headlight assembly (which is easy to do), under the back cover is a dessicant bag (full of silica). Peel it off of the back cover and put it in an oven at 250 degrees for about an hour to dry it out. Reassemble the headlights and within a day or so the problem will be gone without going to the dealership. I know it may sound crazy and scary to some, but it really was very easy.
I am having a tech that my Porsche dealer recommended install a system that will allow me to use my blackberry cell phone hands free thru the porsche sound system. I will report back how it goes but my dealer said several porsche owners have been happy with it. It will mimic the system that I had before in my S class and 745 BMW. :shades: Jim
congrats! how did you know that it was $4k under dealer cost? did the dealer come out and tell u how much they paid for it or did u do your own research? do tell as I am in the market to purchase an '06 type S and would love a similar deal. Also, where did u buy it from?
I am two weeks into my ownership of my 04 Cayenne S and it is great. It was a CPO with PCM, new brakes and tires. It is a blast to drive but is terrible on gas compared to me E class and MDX. I wanted a sports car again but I bring my kids to school so I needed something practical. This was a great compromise. Can anyone tell me about cost for installing a CD changer and phone/bluetooth? Did you have the dealer do it or some aftermarket company?
I'll let you know soon because I just ordered some for my Cayenne S. I got flaps for the front and back from eurodrivegear.com, and they cost $210. I plan on installing them myself. I don't know if you're aware of the website, but they have a lot of stuff for the Cayenne (a lot is interchangeable between the Cayenne and Toureg). I also got the roof rails and protective roof strips from them, and installed them myself. Hopefully the mudflaps are as easy (I can't imagine they'd be very tough to install). I should get them early next week.
Well, I have the mudflaps, but putting them on my car has been just slightly outweighed priority-wise by the birth of my first child! Don't know when I'll get around to putting them on, but I'll let you know when I do. They look easy to install though.
Thank you! Haven't installed them yet, but may have the dealer do it because it looks a little more complicated than I thought. As far as the benefit, I go to a pretty remote part of Arkansas often, and there are dirt roads. I'm hoping the mudflaps will help keep pebbles from flying up and hitting the car. Also, in a past SUV I had (Isuzu Trooper while in college) that had mudflaps, they kept the rear window from getting really dirty in rain and snow. Obviously, the rear wiper helps, but mudflaps can help too. I don't know if it will be as big a deal in the Cayenne though because the rear window isn't straight up and down like it was in my old Trooper. We'll see though!
Just acquired an 04 Cay S manual with 17k on the clock and just love it. I'd already test driven a dealer's 05 Cay S tiptronic, but it just didn't feel right, though I didn't notice any takeoff lag that other people have mentioned. Then someone I work with decided to sell his manual Cay S so he could get a 911, so I was in luck as only about 10% of Cay S's aren't auto.
Previously I had a (manual) BMW convertible, but a growing family necessitated a change, and am now thinking of installing running boards, partly to help kids in/out and hoping they'll act as bodywork protectors as well. Can anyone tell me how far they stick out beyond the body?
Also, does anyone have any experience/pics of installing side protection mouldings? These are almost essential in London's very cramped car parks, but I'm worried they'll ruin the Cay's looks :confuse: TIA
Hello, I have an 04 Cay S. - Silver with black interior. I loved my 99 Boxter and Jeep Grand Cherokee but this is the best of both worlds. I'm considering changing the leather steering wheel to a wood one. I was wondering if anyone has done this and were there any problems. Don't want to screw up my baby! Any advise would be appreciated.
good to hear from you. I had a boxster also....and a toyota minivan....and a xj-12 jag....and I sold all 3 and got the cayenne. I also think it is the best ...but best of 3 or 4 worlds....
I also have the leather steering wheel. I saw some wood ones on ebay. There should not be any problems switching them out. Make sure they reconnect the wires...
Caynista, I have never heard of any Cay S with manual shifting. Are you sure that you bought the Cay S or your friend just changed the badge to read Cay S.
Very strange as I do not believe that Porsche made any Cay S with manual shifting.
I have been doing some research of wether or not I should purchase an 04 Cayenne V6, after owning a 1995 740i BMW for six years, trust me I am used to the dealers donuts and coffee, but lately the repairs have just been routine and the car runs great, but I really don't want to put anymore money in this vehicle it is time for us to part ways, I really need every one to be honest with me is the V6 a good vehicle or not, are the repairs average cost or outrageous, I don't want to be in the dealership once a month, please help me :confuse:
I owned two Boxsters prior to my Cayenne and NEVER had a problem with either one. Then,I got hold of a lemon. I've had my '05 Cayenne V6 for about 8 months and it has been an electical nightmare. First day: dead battery, had to call the office manager to give me a ride to work. Turned out the battery was completely dead and could not be revived. Then I had all kinds of alerts popping up. They had to repair wiring to all the airbags. Then key fob problems which, after 3 visits, resulted in having to replace some kind of computer module that interacts with the keys. Then there were mysterious alerts concerning various lights. The speakers occasionally don't work, and then suddenly come on while driving around. The bass and treble settings reset themselves to "0" overnight. These issues still have not been resolved. Of course, they never occur when the car is at the shop. The service guys say that according to the diagnostics, the alerts I have told them about "never occured". I guess I must be imagining them. Has anyone else experinced these problems? I'm fed up with this vehicle and would love to drop it off on the dealer's doorstep, but it's too expensive to throw away.
Dear Almost a newbie, I can't comment on the Cayenne V6 although I have used them as service loaners but the Cayenne S has been super and no problems, only service at prescribed intervals. I had previously had a 2003 BMW 745i which I loved driving but was to cluttered with "inovations" to really enjoy the car the way you should, plus the Porsche SUV was just to good to pass up. You wont have free maintanence like you may be used to at BMW, but I have had no problems with my Cayenne. I have had it for 2 years now and I have put 42,000 miles on it. When I have used the V6 Cay, the looks were the same and the interior comfort was the same, the big difference was in acceleration. The V6 seemed to strain to get going where the V8 is very smooth. Going from the 7 series BMW you might want to look at a Cayenne S with the 8 cylinder, they start at a lower price than you might think and the dealers seemed to sell them for quite a bit lower than BMWs and Mercedes that have a lower profit margin from which to deal.I highly recomend the Cayenne and I am a fussy buyer and owner. :shades:
Thanks for the info I test drove the V6 on this week, and it is a little slower than my BMW when I first push the gas pedal, but it really was'nt that bad, the vehicle has 247 hp and my BMW has 280.
If you're still looking for a V6 Cayenne, you might want to rethink. Maybe mine was just a :lemon: but I certainly wouldn't take another chance on one. I just traded mine towards a Mercedes SL500. Might I recommend you lean towards a Porsche Cayman or 911 ? The 911 is flawless and the Cayman is based on a combo of the Boxster and the 911, both of which have had the bugs worked out of them long ago.
the problem can't be fix....most of cayenne have that problems...is not the tires or balancing, is the suv it self ....vibrations after 65 plus miles...I'm aplaying the lemon law...everyone should do the same...montro42
Let me guess: you have an '04 model? Unfortunately, the '03 and '04 Model Years are "beta" cars. '05 and later should be solid. Porsche didn't win the JD Powers top ranking for nothing.

Is there really a big difference between 04/05? Dealer told me the difference was mostly software programming that is updated when certified used... looking at an 04 S, with 60K as a 3rd vehicle for towing/winter driving. thinking $35K would be right. Any thoughts???
Finally got the mudflaps installed during the 30K mile service. Haven't really had a chance to see how functional they are, but they look nice. The dealer charged $275 to install them (I bought them from another source (for $142 for fronts and rears). On another note, that 30K service isn't cheap! $1,400 set price. That's one thing I miss about my 545i. Free maintenance!

I am considering installing mud flaps...so I would appreciate any comments regarding the pros &/or cons about install them. Also the approximate cost.
Thanks.
Look forward to your response.
Thank you.
When you get around to installing them, just let me know.
What is the expected benefit of installing the mud flaps.
Thanks.
got it...
