can I buy anytime or need to buy within a few days after purchase the car?
I purchased 2010 EX-L w/RES (ocean mist blue) on Dec 31st (to get some tax benefits, around $400), OTD price - $34, 250 (including 3 years value care program - free oil change and tire rotation for 3 years).
Finance manager convinced me to buy $1200 extended warranty (7 years/80K miles bumper to bumper) including appearance protection program (5 yrs of exterior and interior protection).
Let me know your comments on this purchase.
Looks like I paid bit more for that I believe. Protection package was separate warranty ($189), but dealer agreed to provide both for $1200 when I requested.
Also tax charged on $1200 warranty. Let me know, how did u get your warranty, so that I would cancel mine and get new one.
Driving is great, the only thing I missed a little bit is the power sliding door, my 5 years daughter can't operate the side door herself.
I am thinking of install DVD on it, anyone has any recommendation on aftermarket DVD, faire price, what brand, where to get it installed etc?
You must purchase before you have 6,000 miles or you will have to get the used car version of the Honda waraanty program.
Whereever you purchase, be sure to ask for the prices for the $0 deductable and the $100 deductable. Then you can decide if it's worth the extra for the $0 deductable. For me it was onlt a $100 difference so given if you ever have to use it, yhou will get back the difference in the 1st use.
could you let me know the dealership and the town from where you got this deal
thanks,
BBC
thanks in advance.
Would you mind to share the breakdown of the OTD price? e.g:
- TTL (Tax, license)
- Any dealer processing fee
- etc..etc
Congrats and enjoy your new car.

Mine was 7 yrs /80k miles, $0 deductible. I bought it on 12/31/09.
They told me prices are increasing in 2010.
I got it at Open Road Honda on Rt 22.
Call and ask for Frankie. He was a pretty straight up guy and didn't pull all the usual sales tricks. I went in and was like 'this is what I want, and this is what I want to pay...if you can do the deal then I am ready to buy right now".
I had one in my other minivan and it just became a distraction and the kids eventually broke it. I discovered it is better to have NO ent system in your car than have a broken one.
Also, I made a typo as to where I got mine. I purchased mine at PLANET Honda on Rt 22. My advice to you is to get some email quotes from the internet sales people from some Honda dealers and then use that as a starting point for negotiations.
This site has been tremendously helpful to me in my car purchase. Good Luck
Maybe I should wait and see what happens after the current incentives. Anyone else think the cash incentives are going to happen?
I'm now considering using the AMEX car-buying program. The $ they gave me for EX-L w/DVD is 31,667 PLUS t,t & r (no dest) so I think that's pretty good. When I saw your price paid I was going to disregard AMEX, but now knowing it didnt include DVD I think AMEX might be worth looking into, and then falling back on raw negotiation (via email, of course so less work at dealership) I'm now also going to email Open Road, Hamilton and Princeton Honda.
Thanks again for your help, and again if anyone has any insight on this in the Central Jersey area, bring it on!
I have a couple of dealers around the 32200 mark in the PA area. I saw Universe in NJ was about 32000.
Good luck!
EX-L with RES and NAV

I live in VT and am going through Costco Auto Buying Program.
Thanks in advance
1) Log into the Honda.com website and click on "find dealer" (DONT use the request quote button).
2) At that point, select "request a quote) after you have list of dealers.
3. Fill out your info. don't put a phone number down, you call them if you want...they don't call you.
Ask for the following:
- Obviously request model your looking for in dropdown.
- In "comments" section put something to the effect:
Would like an OTD (out the door) quotation on EXL RES. Please itemize charges: Base Price (INCLUDING DESTINATION) only extras should be tax, title license. I understand that Honda is offering the special APR financing of 1.9 apr for 36 or 2.9 up to 72 for well qualified buyers. I would like your best price, please assume I qualify for the financing offer. (eg I don't want a price that isn't applicable with the financing offer) Additionally, please include the color selection that you have available. I'm checking with several dealers in the area and will be purchasing shortly. Your promptness and bottom line is much appreciated.
Dont give them your phone number. You call them when you want so that you can think in advance of what your going to say. You don't need anyone calling you.
- Press Send
4. Go Back to "find dealer" enter your zip and you'll get the same list. select 'request quote" by the next dealer and this same form that you initially entered will be available. just press send.
5. repeat to at least 8 dealers in your area if your in a metro area. I'd send to everyone. Note, there are low volume dealers out there, like the one 4 miles from my home that will never come CLOSE to competing with other dealers. Stepping foot in their door is just going to waste your time or money. They will still be happy to service your vehicle and provide honda warranty maintenance.
5 1/2. This is personal choice, but if your credit is questionable, pay the few bucks and run your credit report to get your score. If your 700+ you should qualify for the premium financing offer. If your not so pristine, go to your local credit union, capital one or online back and get financing in advance. You can always accept hondas and just rip the check up, but there's no sense negotiating a great deal only to get bent over in financing. If your 700+ bring your credit score in your back pocket when you eventually buy a car. (in case they try to tell you that you don't qualify for the 1.9 or 2.9
6. Sit back..your in the drivers seat.
7. Wait for quotes to come in.
8. You'll find out who's serious.
- some will give you a ridiculously HIGH price
- some wont respond (amazingly enough)
- a few will give you a pretty aggressive price
- you may end up with a clear cut low ball great price
9. Forget about the morons that ask you to call them for an appointment (The VIP treatment means getting bent over). On the ones that are really high, if you want reply and tell them they are off by whatever the diff is between them and your lowest price. i.e, "your off by $2600, if that's your best shot, I'll pass thanks".
10. Let the few that are low sit a few days and then reply back. Note that you appreciate their offer. That you have a few others that are right there and that you'd like to buy from them. Your making the decision in the next 48-72 hours. Is this your best price? (if you want any accessories, nows the time to ask for them). Alternatively, you can name a price to see if they can get there, personal choice really here. Make sure again to qualify that Destination is included and that there are NO dealer extras on the car (ask them to confirm this). Get an itemized out the door price. Base+Desination, + tax + title + license. Make sure that the documentation/processing fee does not exceed $100. In some states the most they can charge is $59.
11. Wait for your responses. Hopefully you should have a pretty good price (better than you have from your other guy).
12. Take the best quote you've got and email it to any others that are close and ask if they can beat it. Email it back to the person that gave you the best price, saying that you appreciate their aggressiveness, there's another that's close, bit lower, is this your best price?.
13 Finally, go back to the person/dealer with the best price and qualify every detail:"You have this color in stock and this price includes destination? Only Extra's are Tax, Title License? They reply in writing with a "yes", then call them to once again firm these detials and make an appointment to meet them and drive (and hopefully buy) the car..
13.5 When you show up. Drive the EXACT VAN you are buying. Make sure you like it, no rattles, etc. Inspect it for scratches, etc. Should be fine, but make sure. You've come this far, don't overlook final details.
14. Show up with your credit report and/or own financing lined up as a fallback. If you have good credit, do not settle for anything less than the 1.9 36 mos, 2.9 72 months. They could very well pull "I know we said that, but it was a mistake, we can't do this price with the financing. If that's the case, don't grovel...get up and WALK OUT. 9 times out of 10, they will stop you and honor it. Hopefully you will not encounter this, but if you do, don't play games, walk out.
15. You have a trade-in? Research your price on kbbdotcom and edmunds dot com. If its and older car with high mileage don't expect to much, sell it on craigslist, someone at work, or expect to take your $1500 at the dealer to be done. If you have a car thats actually worth something, again, do your homework. Get a price from carmax (they'll give you 7 days to decide to sell to them or not). At this point tell the dealer you brother inlwaw was supposed to buy it but he backed out. They'll give you a lame price, tell them you need $500 over whatever your carmax price is..with the carmax price as your target.(Dont tell them you have carmax fallback) If they beat or match carmax take it. If they come within $500 i'd still take it...(the trade value comes off your purchase price before tax is calculated so your still even). Bottom line is your trying to avoid getting bent over by several thousand bucks..which is highly likely if you don;t research. If they get to your price and honor their quoted price, your buying the car. If they honor quoted but bend you over by several thousand on the trade, you might want to walk...your call. Folks time and money mean different things to each other, its your call.
16.. Do all negotiation back forth via email. DON'T GO IN until you have a deal. If you go in without a deal being done your prone to wasting your time or caving and not getting a great deal. AND DONT BRING UP TRADE UNTIL YOU GET THERE AND DONT MENTION YOUR CARMAX FALL BACK PRICE. Your trying to get them to beat it.
-If your not in a m
-If your not in a major hurry and the dealers in your area have a lot of vans on the lot, I would start this the 3rd week of the month and move to closure in the last few days Get your quotes, let them sit a few days, follow up, sit a few days, then put the final press on for the last 2 days of the month. Your likely to get the best price on the very last day of the month.
16. Lastly, after putting the screws to everyone (who would otherwise be putting the screws to you)..do honor the final deal and dont try squeeze blood after putting them through the ringer via email. Press hard but then HONOR your final deal.
This may seem like a TON of effort but it is simple. Everything is automated on Honda's website and you don't have to step foot in a dealership to negotiate.
Good Luck!

I have a deposit on a Honda Certified 2008 Odyssey EX with 14k miles. Has remainder of factory bumper to bumper warranty and then the additional 12/12k on top. OTD price is 22K which includes $2500 from a trade-in of my 1999 Odyssey LX with 110K miles. Thinking it is a pretty decent deal.
HTH
I am looking to buy a 2010 Honda Odyssey EX-L w/ Navigation and Rear Entertainment Price in Dallas, TX.
What kind of OTD (out of the door) price has anyone felt satisfied with ?
Also, any thoughts on the package called 'Honda Protection Package' ? Seems like dealers want to add this to all their vehicles.
Thanks.
I have been given a quote of $31,495 + others with OTD of 35,250 for Odyssey EX-L RES in Edison NJ.
I am in no hurry to buy. Is this a good quote? Is this true that Sienna XLE with Option 3 package is roughly $3000 cheaper than Honda?
Thanks
