Is it worth to buy extended warranty? I have little experience.

can I buy anytime or need to buy within a few days after purchase the car?
  • allavalonsallavalons Member Posts: 67
For Honda Care you have 6 months or 6,000 miles (whichever comes 1st) to get the new car Extended Warranty. After that you can still get a warranty but it will be as a used car. Different rates and coverage apply.

Just purchased an Oddy EX yesterday from Boch of MA am NH resident so 27300 otd, this was an upgrade to my 04 Oddy EX. Kids are older and dont need the ent system, plus I help with a pug rescue and was more concerned about hauling crates/cargo room. I looked at the Sienna however the driving position was a bit weird to me (personal preference). Also the second row captains seemed more complicated to remove than the oddys and not as much cargo room. I ended up paying about 3500 more for the the EX than the Sienna LE VP2 however as am planning to have this for the next 10 years felt the increased cargo and more comfortable seats were worth it. There was also a $298 doc fee added to the price. Not sure about the doc fee however as they deliver anywhere in New England seemed OK. Delivery will be to my town hall on Tue. :shades:

Boch has a HORRIBLE reputation..go to a dealerrater review http://www.dealerrater.com/dealer/Boch-Toyota-review-17181/ and read the horror stories !

Good thing I bought at Boch Honda then, lol. Seriously though, purchased an 08 Ridge from them last year as well as this Oddy and only have good things to say. Most negotiation was done through email though and only the trade in was negotiated. Went in and they had the whole email conversation on file so no tricks on either side. They came in very close to where I had wanted them to with the trade, researched this online as well. With only the financing special offered at this time the price seemed very fair and with the destination much less than even the average on edmunds.

Thanks everyone for your comments, it was very helpful.

I purchased 2010 EX-L w/RES (ocean mist blue) on Dec 31st (to get some tax benefits, around $400), OTD price - $34, 250 (including 3 years value care program - free oil change and tire rotation for 3 years).

Finance manager convinced me to buy $1200 extended warranty (7 years/80K miles bumper to bumper) including appearance protection program (5 yrs of exterior and interior protection).

Let me know your comments on this purchase.
  • hondaorhondaor Member Posts: 4
I just bought Honda Care Extended Warranty on 12/31, 7 years/80K for $750. Looks like yours is not from Honda care? since it has the appearance protection pkg.
  • twarner123twarner123 Member Posts: 3
Where did you get the Honda care extended warranty?. Even mine was Honda care warranty.

Looks like I paid bit more for that I believe. Protection package was separate warranty ($189), but dealer agreed to provide both for $1200 when I requested.

Also tax charged on $1200 warranty. Let me know, how did u get your warranty, so that I would cancel mine and get new one.
  • allavalonsallavalons Member Posts: 67
You definitely over paid. I got the 7/80 with zero deductable for $850. The Honda Care 7/80 with $100 deductable was $750.

I just bought Odyssey LX on 12/30/2009. I am interested buy to extended warranty too. could you mind tell us where you purchased yours? When time to service, any dealership should be ok?
  • fei2010fei2010 Member Posts: 10
finally bought 2010 Odyssey LX at sale price of $24100 and OTD of $26100. Dealer didn't willing to provide any free accessories(such as splash guard, mat etc, not even key chain!). Anyway this is lowest price I could get around here.

Driving is great, the only thing I missed a little bit is the power sliding door, my 5 years daughter can't operate the side door herself.

I am thinking of install DVD on it, anyone has any recommendation on aftermarket DVD, faire price, what brand, where to get it installed etc?
  • allavalonsallavalons Member Posts: 67
I purchased the Honda Care 7/80 at Bariel Honda in Wexford Pennsylvania. The Honda care is honored at any Honda dealer in the US.

You must purchase before you have 6,000 miles or you will have to get the used car version of the Honda waraanty program.

Whereever you purchase, be sure to ask for the prices for the $0 deductable and the $100 deductable. Then you can decide if it's worth the extra for the $0 deductable. For me it was onlt a $100 difference so given if you ever have to use it, yhou will get back the difference in the 1st use.

Anyone have numbers to work with when I go to broker my deal on a 3 yr-15K mi lease this month. I've seen some Residual Val around .48-.56 but that seems a bit low. I don't think you get as much for the higher options packages (especially Nav). Also, what is a good MF these days for Honda? 0.00101?
  • chithralayachithralaya Member Posts: 7
can u please tell me the name of the dealership.

Seeing a few bites on the 2010 EXL (white) from bay area dealers. Way limited stock of course. Looks like $35.9k is where I am at, not including D+T+L but including $710 destination. Also 1.9%. This looks OK to me (right around invoice) but what am I missing?

[questions to: "..finally bought 2010 Odyssey LX at sale price of $24100 and OTD of $26100." ]

Would you mind to share the breakdown of the OTD price? e.g:
    - TTL (Tax, license)
    - Any dealer processing fee
    - etc..etc

Congrats and enjoy your new car.

I bought my Honda Care Extended Warranty from Saccucci Honda.

    http://www.saccuccihondacare.com/vehicle_info.php.

Mine was 7 yrs /80k miles, $0 deductible. I bought it on 12/31/09.
They told me prices are increasing in 2010.
  • dawnrinchicagodawnrinchicago Member Posts: 7
I was quoted $30907 in Chicago for a 2010 EXL RES, incl. taxes and fees. I'm also thinking about the 2011 Sienna. Thoughts?
  • nobonobo Member Posts: 305
Also waiting on the 2011 Sienna here. Hope to see one at an auto show in the next few weeks.
  • digidigi Member Posts: 3
    That was for a '10.

I got it at Open Road Honda on Rt 22.

Call and ask for Frankie. He was a pretty straight up guy and didn't pull all the usual sales tricks. I went in and was like 'this is what I want, and this is what I want to pay...if you can do the deal then I am ready to buy right now".
  • baruchadbaruchad Member Posts: 6
So I got a call from a Toyota dealer and she said the 2011 should be out by the end of the month - at which point, I will hit a Honda dealer and tell him he really needs to lower his price. Hope this works.

let me the dealer and sales rep info.
  • elwood11elwood11 Member Posts: 6
I would WAIT to buy if you can. Once 2011 Sienna comes out (especially the SE model in April), Honda will lose too much market share if they don't act quickly. I love Honda/Acura and have owned many over the years, BUT newly redesigned Sienna blows away the current Ody on almost every level (even has knee airbags). AND it's about $3,000 less on comparable model MSRP. Even though Honda reduced production on 2010 Ody's to try to match lowering demand and keep prices high, look for $3000 reduction total (factory rebate/discount/dealer incentive), and that will be off INVOICE, not MSRP. Honda Corp. has had enough time now to analyze the post-C4C sales numbers and now know that most Ody buyers are smarter consumers than they anticipated...
  • ckrolckrol Member Posts: 9
This sounds like a great deal. I'm in the area and want the same car. I may be calling Frankie!! Thanks. Now I have to go back in your replies and see if you also got the ent system/DVD...
  • dsrtrat2dsrtrat2 Member Posts: 223
Now that the 2011 Toyota Sienna is soon to be on the scene, when will Honda put out some info, and/or time lines? A relative is waiting to choose between the two, but may not wait too long!
  • rmbalisarmbalisa Member Posts: 129
that is a super crazy deal if it includes taxes and fees. what is your tax rate? if i assume 9%, that means you got the van for about $28.5K, when invoice is $32.4K and MSRP is $35.7K...about $4K below invoice. please confirm that this is true.
  • digidigi Member Posts: 3
I did not get the ENT system in it. I think if you want it, add about $1500 more.
I had one in my other minivan and it just became a distraction and the kids eventually broke it. I discovered it is better to have NO ent system in your car than have a broken one.

Also, I made a typo as to where I got mine. I purchased mine at PLANET Honda on Rt 22. My advice to you is to get some email quotes from the internet sales people from some Honda dealers and then use that as a starting point for negotiations.

This site has been tremendously helpful to me in my car purchase. Good Luck
  • magilladkemagilladke Member Posts: 15
That would be sweet. I tried to buy a vehicle before the end of the year to get the tax incentives, but it didn't happen.

Maybe I should wait and see what happens after the current incentives. Anyone else think the cash incentives are going to happen?
  • ckrolckrol Member Posts: 9
Thanks for the info. My kids are little---6 month old twins and a 2 year old who loves her Elmo...so hopefully I think they aren't at the busting-up-a-dvd player age (or won't be for awhile). And we borrowed my mom's Odyssey w/DVD for a weekend trip and LOVED it, so I think we're gonna spring for it. Granted the 6 month olds don't need the DVD, by 2 yrs they will...

I'm now considering using the AMEX car-buying program. The $ they gave me for EX-L w/DVD is 31,667 PLUS t,t & r (no dest) so I think that's pretty good. When I saw your price paid I was going to disregard AMEX, but now knowing it didnt include DVD I think AMEX might be worth looking into, and then falling back on raw negotiation (via email, of course so less work at dealership) I'm now also going to email Open Road, Hamilton and Princeton Honda.

Thanks again for your help, and again if anyone has any insight on this in the Central Jersey area, bring it on!
  • magilladkemagilladke Member Posts: 15
I got the same price from USAA. That's a really good price for the vehicle at this time.

I have a couple of dealers around the 32200 mark in the PA area. I saw Universe in NJ was about 32000.

    Good luck!

This method has worked very well in the past (search donkeypunch) but appears to have lost steam. Those in the market may want to give it a shot:

    1) Log into the Honda.com website and click on "find dealer" (DONT use the request quote button).

    2) At that point, select "request a quote) after you have list of dealers.

    3. Fill out your info. don't put a phone number down, you call them if you want...they don't call you.
    Ask for the following:
    - Obviously request model your looking for in dropdown.
    - In "comments" section put something to the effect:
Would like an OTD (out the door) quotation on EXL RES. Please itemize charges: Base Price (INCLUDING DESTINATION) only extras should be tax, title license. I understand that Honda is offering the special APR financing of 1.9 apr for 36 or 2.9 up to 72 for well qualified buyers. I would like your best price, please assume I qualify for the financing offer. (eg I don't want a price that isn't applicable with the financing offer) Additionally, please include the color selection that you have available. I'm checking with several dealers in the area and will be purchasing shortly. Your promptness and bottom line is much appreciated.
Dont give them your phone number. You call them when you want so that you can think in advance of what your going to say. You don't need anyone calling you.
    - Press Send
    4. Go Back to "find dealer" enter your zip and you'll get the same list. select 'request quote" by the next dealer and this same form that you initially entered will be available. just press send.
    5. repeat to at least 8 dealers in your area if your in a metro area. I'd send to everyone. Note, there are low volume dealers out there, like the one 4 miles from my home that will never come CLOSE to competing with other dealers. Stepping foot in their door is just going to waste your time or money. They will still be happy to service your vehicle and provide honda warranty maintenance.
5 1/2. This is personal choice, but if your credit is questionable, pay the few bucks and run your credit report to get your score. If your 700+ you should qualify for the premium financing offer. If your not so pristine, go to your local credit union, capital one or online back and get financing in advance. You can always accept hondas and just rip the check up, but there's no sense negotiating a great deal only to get bent over in financing. If your 700+ bring your credit score in your back pocket when you eventually buy a car. (in case they try to tell you that you don't qualify for the 1.9 or 2.9
    6. Sit back..your in the drivers seat.
    7. Wait for quotes to come in.
    8. You'll find out who's serious.
    - some will give you a ridiculously HIGH price
    - some wont respond (amazingly enough)
    - a few will give you a pretty aggressive price
    - you may end up with a clear cut low ball great price
    9. Forget about the morons that ask you to call them for an appointment (The VIP treatment means getting bent over). On the ones that are really high, if you want reply and tell them they are off by whatever the diff is between them and your lowest price. i.e, "your off by $2600, if that's your best shot, I'll pass thanks".
    10. Let the few that are low sit a few days and then reply back. Note that you appreciate their offer. That you have a few others that are right there and that you'd like to buy from them. Your making the decision in the next 48-72 hours. Is this your best price? (if you want any accessories, nows the time to ask for them). Alternatively, you can name a price to see if they can get there, personal choice really here. Make sure again to qualify that Destination is included and that there are NO dealer extras on the car (ask them to confirm this). Get an itemized out the door price. Base+Desination, + tax + title + license. Make sure that the documentation/processing fee does not exceed $100. In some states the most they can charge is $59.
    11. Wait for your responses. Hopefully you should have a pretty good price (better than you have from your other guy).
    12. Take the best quote you've got and email it to any others that are close and ask if they can beat it. Email it back to the person that gave you the best price, saying that you appreciate their aggressiveness, there's another that's close, bit lower, is this your best price?.
13 Finally, go back to the person/dealer with the best price and qualify every detail:"You have this color in stock and this price includes destination? Only Extra's are Tax, Title License? They reply in writing with a "yes", then call them to once again firm these detials and make an appointment to meet them and drive (and hopefully buy) the car..
13.5 When you show up. Drive the EXACT VAN you are buying. Make sure you like it, no rattles, etc. Inspect it for scratches, etc. Should be fine, but make sure. You've come this far, don't overlook final details.
    14. Show up with your credit report and/or own financing lined up as a fallback. If you have good credit, do not settle for anything less than the 1.9 36 mos, 2.9 72 months. They could very well pull "I know we said that, but it was a mistake, we can't do this price with the financing. If that's the case, don't grovel...get up and WALK OUT. 9 times out of 10, they will stop you and honor it. Hopefully you will not encounter this, but if you do, don't play games, walk out.
    15. You have a trade-in? Research your price on kbbdotcom and edmunds dot com. If its and older car with high mileage don't expect to much, sell it on craigslist, someone at work, or expect to take your $1500 at the dealer to be done. If you have a car thats actually worth something, again, do your homework. Get a price from carmax (they'll give you 7 days to decide to sell to them or not). At this point tell the dealer you brother inlwaw was supposed to buy it but he backed out. They'll give you a lame price, tell them you need $500 over whatever your carmax price is..with the carmax price as your target.(Dont tell them you have carmax fallback) If they beat or match carmax take it. If they come within $500 i'd still take it...(the trade value comes off your purchase price before tax is calculated so your still even). Bottom line is your trying to avoid getting bent over by several thousand bucks..which is highly likely if you don;t research. If they get to your price and honor their quoted price, your buying the car. If they honor quoted but bend you over by several thousand on the trade, you might want to walk...your call. Folks time and money mean different things to each other, its your call.
16.. Do all negotiation back forth via email. DON'T GO IN until you have a deal. If you go in without a deal being done your prone to wasting your time or caving and not getting a great deal. AND DONT BRING UP TRADE UNTIL YOU GET THERE AND DONT MENTION YOUR CARMAX FALL BACK PRICE. Your trying to get them to beat it.

-If your not in a m

    See above post, final suggestion:

-If your not in a major hurry and the dealers in your area have a lot of vans on the lot, I would start this the 3rd week of the month and move to closure in the last few days Get your quotes, let them sit a few days, follow up, sit a few days, then put the final press on for the last 2 days of the month. Your likely to get the best price on the very last day of the month.

    16. Lastly, after putting the screws to everyone (who would otherwise be putting the screws to you)..do honor the final deal and dont try squeeze blood after putting them through the ringer via email. Press hard but then HONOR your final deal.

This may seem like a TON of effort but it is simple. Everything is automated on Honda's website and you don't have to step foot in a dealership to negotiate.

    Good Luck!

This forum has been a great help. Thanks to all that post! This is my first post and wanted to know what you all think out there about this deal.

I have a deposit on a Honda Certified 2008 Odyssey EX with 14k miles. Has remainder of factory bumper to bumper warranty and then the additional 12/12k on top. OTD price is 22K which includes $2500 from a trade-in of my 1999 Odyssey LX with 110K miles. Thinking it is a pretty decent deal.

I've been working with a dealer in chester county, pa (suburbs of Phila) and their last quote to me was $28,300 for an Odyssey EX 2010 (we started at 29,115). Is this a good price for this van or can we get closer to the dealer invoice in this area?
  • magilladkemagilladke Member Posts: 15
I believe you should be around invoice. I've gotten a couple of quotes just below invoice (couple of hundred dollars).

    Hi,

I am looking to buy a 2010 Honda Odyssey EX-L w/ Navigation and Rear Entertainment Price in Dallas, TX.

What kind of OTD (out of the door) price has anyone felt satisfied with ?
Also, any thoughts on the package called 'Honda Protection Package' ? Seems like dealers want to add this to all their vehicles.

    Thanks.

    Hi

I have been given a quote of $31,495 + others with OTD of 35,250 for Odyssey EX-L RES in Edison NJ.

I am in no hurry to buy. Is this a good quote? Is this true that Sienna XLE with Option 3 package is roughly $3000 cheaper than Honda?

    Thanks

Sienna XLE with EVP 3 is about 3K less than Odyssey. The 2010 Sienna is no longer being produced, so what is on the ground is all that is left. 2011 Sienna announced and in production. Will be in dealer showrooms in the next few weeks.
