Were you provided with a loaner vehicle while yours is out of service? If not, I would INSIST that the dealer do so. I'd also let American Honda know that the dealer didn't offer one. American Honda is TERRIFIED of getting any bad PR.
I bought a '96 Accord back in 09/96. The camshaft seal failed at 35k miles while I was driving at 70mph on the highway. The oil pressure light came on and, in the few seconds it took to make it onto the shoulder, every drop of oil leaked out. Thank God I was using synthetic oil at the time. The seal was replaced under warranty and the dealership begrudgingly gave me a used Civic loaner.
Fast forward to 73k miles (car was 2.5 years old at this point, I drove a LOT back then). Almost identical scenario, driving on the highway and the oil pressure light flashes. The camshaft seal failed yet again.
My warranty had expired at this point, so the dealer wanted to charge me for the repair AND for conducting the engine compression test to make sure there was no other damage. They offered me a ride to Enterprise Rent-A-Car, how kind of them. Luckily, the night before when I had the car towed to the dealer, the mechanic I spoke with told me "we've seen A LOT of '96 Accords built around the same time with cam seal failures".
With that information, one call to American Honda got the car fixed under warranty. For good measure, I also received my belated 60k service for FREE!
A dealer cares more about profit than making you happy after the sale. American Honda will go above and beyond to protect their well-deserved reputation.
I am thinking to get from Ron Norris Honda dealer (4 DR-LX (Base for $18,500 + TTL) How about South Eastern Honda Dealer? – Help ..Pleeeeease
What do you think? :confuse:
Did gssethi provide you with name of dealership?
I am also in the Bay Area, Need a car for my wife before it breaks down...
Thanks, Brad
Case in point: Looked at swapping my '06 Accord LX-V6 sedan for an '07 Odyssey for my wife. Accord is dark gray, has moonroof 17" EXL wheels, top audio, pretty much everything an EX-V6 has except fog lights. 16 months old with only 12.5K miles. Paid $23.5K, guess what they offered for trade? $14,000.
So Family Honda, why should I buy a new Honda when my current one (according to you) has lost almost 10 grand in value in one year? I know, I know, never trade in a vehicle (and I don't), but I was just curious to see if they were in the ballpark.
Honda will be very lucky to keep this customer with their current sales practices.
$21,770 including splash guards and pinstripes. $635 for delivery and dealer fees. $22,405 before taxes, registration and title. $24,000 OTD (including taxes, registration and title).
The engine is smooth and powerful for a 4 cylinder. Suspension and handling are great. The new interior and exterior are nice, although I wish the cloth on the seats looked "tougher". If I had the extra money, the EX-L interior does look sharp!
The first thing I would change would be to slightly reduce the amount of power steering assistance, to provide more road feel and feedback. Road noise on the highway is a bit more than I expected, maybe due to the stock tires?
All things considered, a great car, and solid value. Looking forward to years of safe, fun, reliable and happy motoring! Thanks to all for your assistance in my purchase process. :shades:
Some dealers add ADMs to the lest price just to sucker a buyer into thinking they are getting a great deal when the price is lowered by $1000 or more. Dealers which add ADMS to list prices are dead in my book. There are too many excellent dealers out there to bother with such tactics.
Remember, INVOICE is meaningless...dealers know you know what that is....it's DEALER COST that's important.
If you can wait awhile for the '08's, and be a hard bargainer, you can get a much better price. Dealers all want big bucks when there's an upgraded model just out.
Ask for "Tina" from Internet Department at the front desk and stay firm on the price of 21.6k-21.7k.
I played a different strategy. I went in looking for the 2007 Accord SE V6 and told them 18.5-18.6k for it (they were willing to sell it for 19.2k). Then I looked at the 08 and told them 21.5k for that.
I told them that I would take whichever one could get me my price but was more happy to get the 08.
If you want to have no hassles and just get it for 21.7k, just tell that that "Gundeep" referred you to them and you wont pay a penny more.
Also, regarding financing, make sure you go in with some alternative financing to negotiate with. First they offered us 6.49% through AHFC(my fico was 783) and I mentioned my Credit union which was offering 5.6%. Magically, AHFC offered 5.74% immediately
I think 08 Accords have 0% APR right now (till 10/31) if you finance less than 15k for short term ??
Now why should we tell "Tina" that gundeep sent us
It is my understanding that the manufacturing cost for an 08 EXL V6 is $12,900.
The out of door price is around 21000. Is this a good deal now? Any possibility to negotiate a few hundred bucks down?
Thank you very much.
You can just mention my name so that the dealer knows that you are not going to pay anything more than 21.7k price range (b/c then they know that you know the price they are willing to sell the car for). Helps in saving time.
for the 07 SE V6, Best quotes I got were 19k against my offer of 18.5k... 19k + TTL(~10%)=~20.5-21k range OTD
Went there to see what APR I can get. They said 8.14%, I told them I got 6.69% from a Credit Union, so they gave me 6.4%...
Nothing set in stone just yet, but I DID PUT A DEPOSIT ON THE V6 for now...
They gave me the option to go to a LESSER ACCORD COUPE if I want to...
So in the meantime, I'm deciding whether...
...I live TIGHT, but do-able, with the V6...
...live with some cushion with the EX-L 4 Cyl....
...or save $$$ with the EX or LX Coupe.
Now laugh if you want, but since no one was budging now, I will get it, which ever one I choose, at MSRP... No Invoice price, nothing less than MSRP, the price I pay for getting it now.
We went by the V6 Coupe, so my Drive-Out is... $30,950, $609/month
If I go EX-L 4 Cyl. Coupe... $28,450 Drive-Out, $560/Month
Now... let me have it, your opinions....
I do know much about car. Is the configuration of any SE V6 the same? If I take this deal, anything I should pay attention to other accessories and warranty? Is the warranty for all Honda car the same if I do not buy extended one? How many years, how many miles. Thank you.
Last year I visited a Honda showroom just to get a booklet. Instead of the salesman merely handing me the booklet he asked for my name and telephone number. Then for days there after he kept calling and made all sorts of outrageous claims on how he could save me over $10,000 on the purchase of a new Honda Accord. Since I knew that the list price was about 9 to 10% above the invoice price there was no way he could discount an Accord by $10,000 or more. Some people might have believed this but in today's market most car buyers are sophisticated enough to know within $500 how much of a discount a reasonable dealer can make.
with Honda, any SE V6 will be the same. The only differences are colors (external and internal) but right now, for 2007, you can only pick what is left.
You will probably not need any extra accessories. Might want to look at the Alarm but again, car should have keyless entry and anti-theft device installed by Honda.
Regarding warranty, the original 3-yr/36k warranty is the same for all cars. I think that the max. Honda offers is 7-yr/120k. Again, a car can break at any time (whether it is Ford or Honda or Toyota or BMW etc). Extended warranty is little bit peace of mind. Our older 2001 Accord had a transmission problem at ~80k miles but was covered under Honda warranty b/c of known problem on transmissions on that model year. Taking extended warranty is your choice, i cant give any input on it.
The only think that I would tell you to be wary about are:
1) Documentation Fees / Dealer Fees. Make sure that this is <$60. Anything higher and just walk out. We paid $55 for ours which I thought was on higher side. (I only paid $30 last year for my G35 and that was an infiniti dealer).
2) Finance/Interest Rate. As mentioned earlier, make sure you have some alternative financing (credit union etc.) or know the numbers. Dealer will give you a high APR first and then when you will counter it with your own Financing, they will magically bring it down (happened with us)
I say, take 20.5k-21k for the SE V6 OTD and enjoy the car (especially if you can get the color combination you like). Its not worth it over couple of hundred dollars and then get a car with a color combination you dont like (One of the reasons we didnt get the 07 was that the colors we liked were sold-out) and the dealer that had the color was not willing to go lower. (Be flexible with the color when negotiating pricing but after deal is done, only then choose your color)
I had a finance instructor for one of my MBA courses and he always buys used cars. He demonstrated that over a lifetime with the money saved and the power of compounding, you can accumulate several hundred thousand dollars by the time you reach retirement age.
I don't know if I am willing to buy only used cars, but I drive my cars as long as I can to minimize depreciation losses. A car depreciates about 20% each year, and the biggest loss occurs the first year. For every year, the depreciation is less on the declining balance. I am still driving a 1996 model worth $4k at best. If I keep it another year, I only lose $800 in depreciation. When I buy a $25k vehicle, I will lose $5,000 to depreciation the first year. I have now saved-up enough money by keeping my vehicle 11 years ($400 x 12 months x 6 years) to pay cash for a new Accord if I choose to.
Have you dealt with Pohanka before? How much of a discount did you get? What was the final price paid before taxes and destination was added on?
I did everything on the internet and I would say It was really great experience.
I have requested quote about 15 dealership yesterday and got very strait forward and detailed e-mail from joliet honda/illinois this morning.
Just drive down there tonight and the dealer gave me exact deal as emailed. He already had the car ready when I got there. (I got the color/trim that I wanted.)
There wasn't any pressure at all. Smooth and very fast process. I stayed about an hour and drove my new 08 accord out.
It was as easy as buying bicycle.
Here is the deal I got.

But, this REALLY isn't something to where I think I'm "Getting out of debt" by doing this. It's obvious I'm going into "More Debt" because I'm buying, or financing, a new car.
When I talk about taking care of some credit cards, that satisfies me enough to know that 1 credit card will be paid off (which isn't that much, Best Buy Card) and lower the balance on another credit card which I've been paying on for YEARS! And at the same time, I'm happy knowing that some of that money, even though a little, will be going towards something I've wanted and I know I will ENJOY for the next 5 years and even longer.
Practical? No, but I see it as paying for something I'll enjoy for years to come, while lowering a balance of a credit card and paying off another.
Your way, is probably the smartest way to do it, but not everyone is gonna live like that.
I'm sure when I get married and have a family, I'll be more practical, and buy only used, while holding on to cars till they die out, but I'm single, have worked hard the past few years, and held to the car I have now for 9 years. I'm ready to reward myself. Even if it means living TIGHT for a couple of years.
And now, at the end of typing all of this, I just now realized this ISN'T a reply to what I posted last night. Here is what I've done:

What interior are you getting with the polished metal? i ordered one almost a month ago from VIP Honda and still don't have an ETA. Same EX-L sedan V6 with NAV. I'm asking for the Grey leather interior. I'd take their estimate of "the end of the week" with a grain of salt...
Then think about how much more expensive whatever it is you bought costs, after adding up all the interest every month.
I'm old enough to remember being able to deduct credit card interest from my taxes...since that went away, I've never run up a dime in interest.
Never charge what you can't pay off every month.
And try to live below your means.
OK,lecture over.
As for buying only used cars, yes, it's a wiser move financially. But the charge (no pun intended) you get from that new car may be worth it!
use other credit card with 0% APR to carry the balance, but u may pay $75 for the processing fee. Make sure u can come up the total o/s loan amount in a year.
This is the best way to finance ur vehicle with $25($75 less $50 in rebate) interest for upto the OTD

I am waiting for the same Accord. An '08 EX-L V6/navi in PMM with gray interior. At first, I thought they could get one via an online trade or dealer trade within a week or two. However, they had all been spoken for. So now I am waiting until mid-November when my dealer is scheduled to get one of their own. It will end up being a five week wait. I guess I'm not in a big hurry though. I just wish I could renegotiate the price. $300 above invoice was a good price at the time, now it's just an "ok" price. However, I really like the car, which is the most important thing.
Anyone in the Baltimore/DC area purchased one? If so, what was the breakdown on you car?
Thanks,
Don’t let your other debt(s) cloud the issue of buying your new vehicle at a reasonable price ..only you can decide what is reasonable. My target is 250 over invoice, no docs, no add ons, no bull ..as T/G and Christmas approach pricing will continue to soften ..have several offering 1000 off MSRP now but I won’t buy until I get my price
IMHO it is foolish to overpay for ANY vehicle .it’s a depreciating asset unless you plan on keeping it for 25 years as a collector . They will come around if you give it time for the supply/demand rules to equalize
Good Luck
Make your target below invoice and work from there.
I have many favorite dvds and videos.
Some days ago , I want to put them onto my ipod video , some friends recommend a software to me at link title
It works pretty good . I am very glad . Step by step at link title
It is detailed .
If you want to cut any part of video to ipod , just using a software at link title

I'm getting it next week...
Yeah, NO ONE in Houston is being FLEXIBLE.
People here in Houston are buying these 08 Coupes AS SOON AS THEY GET IN. At least the V6's and EX-L's... I think the lower models are still at dealerships, but that's maybe 1 or 2 at each dealership.
The best I got was 50 Bucks under MSRP, just because the dealership's Moto is "No One Beats a Goodson Deal"... LOL!
I'm sure they'll ease up on the prices a few months from now, but what... $1000 less maybe. Even if it's down to Invoice, what are we talking about $60/Month I'd be saving?
I've been wanting to buy a car for YEARS now and I told myself I'd do so right when a New Style or Model is released. And the 1999 Accord LX that I had for 9 years has been worth WAY MORE than what I've paid for it.
Don't get me wrong, saving $60 dollars per month is great, but, I think this car will be worth it to me.
