Using Edmunds dealer network I got a quote from my local Honda dealer of $22587 for a LX-V6 and $25143 for an EX-V6 w/o Nav! That's almost $600 over TMV for both of these cars. The dealers around here are awful for prices. I had hoped to buy locally, but It looks like I'll be widening my search to Milwaukee and Chicagoland. Any suggestions?

Accord is the best in its class... but if you have some extra $$ to spend... why not look for something little nicer.. :-)
I got my ES for just 32K... so just 7K different... I think the upgrade, more features, better warranty and pleasant service worth every single dime...

You should be able to get better deal for any cars... Accord price have been dropped and going to drop further this month... I hope you will be able to get the best deals...
Happy with purchasing and driving... I wish you guys all the best
In Arizona, got ours at invoice, $25472. PRICE INCLUDED: Window tinting, pin stripe, door guards, wheel well guards, tire pressure sensors, clear coat paint protection. Not a bad deal, but a week later they were advertising $500 below invoice. Had to be in stock though, so they probably wouldn't have had our same car anyway since we were particular on the graphite.
I'm interested in whether anyone has tried the CarBargains service? You pay $190 and they get bids for you from the dealers. I still have bad memories from buying my 1994 Camry and would love to hear whether anyone has had experience with this service. The website is www.carbargains.org.
I haven't tried Carbargains, but I looked at the site and everything they offer I was able to accomplish myself on our most recent new car purchase. I had dealers outbidding each other, offering incentives, and all the research was at my fingertips. Why waste $190 when you have the power of the internet? Time saver and convenience is all I can think of.
Yeah, unless you just don't feel like doing the work, Carbargains won't get you anything you can't easily get. I just wrote an email asking dealers how much below or above invoice they wanted, any fees, adds on, etc., how long their price was good for, and sent it out. That very day I got tons of responses and bought my car within 24 hrs. We've used them for our two previous Acuras, but if you've got the time and energy, you can match or beat their price offers and save the $190.
Oh heavens no, the price didn't include tax, title or license fees. An out the door price would be within a stones throw of $27k. Dealers here in Madison have inventories higher than I've ever seen. You'd think that they would be willing/wanting to deal, I guess not. Like I said I'm going to expand my area for pricing. I had hoped to buy locally. Thanks for the advice. Anybody know of a good dealer in the Chicago or Milwaukee areas? Please post or email me. TIA

25143 for an EX-V6 no nav (invoice at 23 something)... is too much
Yes.. you should expand your search area... Probably, it worths to drive 100 miles to save almost 2 thousands bucks.

Just purchased new Accord. Including $460 delivery, list was $26,260; invoice was $23,675. Price paid was $24,154, so about $500 over invoice. Also included was electronic rear view mirror, which has a list of $249.
Hello! After months of research, I'm finally settled on this car. I am going test-driving this weekend.
Would love to know people's thoughts on the 4 cylinder versus the 6 cylinder. I'm going to drive both and see what I think but i'm a little concerned about the extra money for the 6.
And what did you pay in the Bay Area? TMV for 4 cylinder is $22,564 and invoice is $21,788. Any helpful tips for the big negotiation?
Just bought a 2003 Accord, Silver EX Four Door Auto for $20,300 with 2.9 finance @ Lancaster CA Honda. $45 Doc fees, $176 DMV fees.
Went in through the Lancaster CA. Honda store's Web site, got a no BS sale with great service. Matter of fact they are delivering the car tommorow after work, few minor issues with the paint to take care of first. The dealer is also increasing the power train warranty to 5 Year /100K at no cost.
While waiting, one of the porters told me that they deliver cars all the way out to state line!
Great buying experence. I would highly recommend anyone in the high desert of Southern California all the way out to Nevada giving Lancaster honda a try out.
Carmichael Honda, up here in Citrus Heights, CA (near Sacramento) might be worth a drive if you're in the CA Bay Area. They needed to clear out some inventory and offered me an EX auto in desert mist only for $20,000. ($21.8 out door) That's about $700 under invoice. Also got a similar offer from CarsDirect.com, although they were getting the car from Palo Alto (south of San Francisco) and I would have needed to pick it up or pay $150 for delivery. I preferred to work with the local dealer. Besides, the guys in the fleet department here were awesome. Low key, straight shooters, no pressure.
$14,400 for either coupe or sedan with no color restrictions. Today I saw several red and silver in particular. That's about $500 - $700 under invoice, depending on body style.
I bought my 03 Accord LX automatic for $17.700 (sticker price $20,610) at Hopkins Honda in Sunnyvale, CA. The price was quoted to me by their Internet department. I took the printout of the quote to the dealer and had a smooth, no-haggle, no-nonsense transaction. The out-the-door price (tax and license inclusive) was $19,373. If your local Honda dealer has an Internet department, I recommend getting a quote from them over e-mail.
Excellent price! Until now, I thought $17,900 would be about the best price for an LX auto. So good for you... you're a trend setter! Of course, summer is coming up and that's the time the less popular models and colors will be blown out. I think an LX 5 speed would be a STEAL at $16,500 -$17,000. The automatics will probably stay over 17,500 due to their popularity. But you never know. If they don't sell, Honda will help the dealers out with some cash, allowing them to sell the cars substantially under invoice.
Buy'em soon, everyone... or plan on waiting until spring of '04 for the next batch to be discounted.
The EX with leather is a more popular car. Even now you'll spend invoice, maybe a bit more. In rare situations you might even pay less. The range seems to be invoice +/- $500.00, so there's POSSIBLY a grand on the table for those willing to shop around, take a less popular color, or lucky enough to find a dealer with a car that's been on the lot too long.
Unless you like to spend your Saturday's in traffic school (and more for gas) get the 4. At 160HP (up from 125HP in my 1991 Accord) it's got plenty of juice. Also cheaper to maintain.
I just drove home my new 2003 Accord EXL sedan 4cyl with navigation today. I got the 5-speed which I think makes it an entire different vehicle. There were only 2 or 3 with this rare configuration on the east coast and none were the color I wanted (desert mist) so I had to special order mine and wait 3 months. I paid 23,500+++ ($24,464 OTD) which was $50 under Edmunds TMV when I made the deal but $50 over the TMV today (the TMV dropped by $100 in the interim). They threw in mudflaps and the cargo net. I am VERY happy with the price and especially the amount of equipment that is on the vehicle! The voice activation of all the car functions is nothing short of amazing. I am very satisfied with the whole buying process and did not get the car dealer run-around that I expected. I bought from Leith Honda in Raleigh, NC and would recommend them to someone else.
We thought about holding out for a 5-speed EX-L coupe with navi but could barely find a 5-speed EX-L coupe without navi when we were buying ours in late December. We could've waited but decided since we would be keeping the car for a while navigation might be an unnecessary repair down the road.
Love our coupe though. Have been driving tons of miles over the last couple of weeks and it gets a very consistent 30MPG regardless of whether the AC is used, traffic conditions, or how heavy my foot is.
I am shopping for my first new Honda Accord LX 4 cyl, automatic at the age of 66. What dealer and what is the best price for this auto. I have received a price from a auto dealer via the internet of $19,824. including freight, sales tax, tire tax and doc cost a walk out the door price, is this good? Is this a good time to purchase or should I wait till the end of the year for a better price. Thank you in advance
Hi all, Last Saturday purchased a 2003 Redondo Red Accord EX-V6 w/NAVI from Heritage Honda in Westminster. Totally painless. Offered them invoice, right away came back at $100 over. Took it. They had to find one being built and threw in the wheel locks and 1st oil change. Got the following accessories installed: Fogs($415), Day/Night Mirror($285), Decklid Spoiler($314). Could have saved about $300 buying online and installing myself, but figured it was worth it to get the full 3yr/36k warranty on the electronic stuff. They also basically matched internet pricing on other accessories I bought but installed myself: Front Underbody Spoiler($220), Splash Guards($62), Chrome Extensions($65). No other fees, just TTL. All in all a pretty good deal considering the whole negotiation took about 15 minutes. Now I just have to get through the break-in period (argh!).
These have been going for about $17.5K +/- for the last 3-4 months on the SF Bay Area (specifically at Stevens Creek Honda and Capitol Honda in San Jose, CA). This was all pre-war, so prices should be same or better now, as we are also getting close to model year end. I have also seen a number of EX auto 4-cyl for about $19.5K +/- at Stevens Creek on their weekly internet special email. You can use these prices as another data point. I came close to buying from Stevens Creek, but decided not to when my local dealer in Seattle got the model/color (DX 5-speed silver) I was looking for and came close enough in price to make the long-distance hassle factor not worth it. Gotta say Stevens Creek was very polite and straightforward.
19000 d/o yes... 19K Drive out desert mist Accord Lx Auto I sacrificed dealer protection package $650 and I think it looks cool without stripes. came with no mud guards (usually $62 after market) ,great ride very quiet. MSRP 20460. Invoice was = 20460+650+tax+tag+299 paper fee.
I just purchased an 03 EX-V6 (no navigation) for $23,400 from Muller Honda in Highland Park. It was quite painless...pleasant even! I never thought I would say that about buying a car.
I am seriously considering to buy the EX V6 4-door Sedan Model with no Navigation. Could anybody recommend the best price in New York? Any info will be greatly appreciated.
I am thinking of buying a Honda Accord LX, automatic 4 cyl. My first new car. I have been quoted 19,321 walk out the door price. Thank you in advance for any information you can give to a greenhorn.
I went to negotiate an Accord EX-V6 Auto Coupe today and got them down to $24,000. This price is $250 above invoice. My 97 Civic is getting $4,800. The trade value they're giving me for the Civic is about $200 below NADA blue book dealer trade for it's mileage and condition. Seemed like a good deal to me, but how in the world are all of you guys paying less than invoice? Where is the profit in it for the dealer besides the small holdback?
one more thing-when I went to finance, all of a sudden the amount i financed went from the trade in difference of $19,200 + 275 dealer fee + 250 tag + 30 title + 7% tax = $21,150 to something way higher. Now considering that I got 6.9% apr, i should have been paying a total of 22,600 over 60 months at $375. Somehow the guy tried to make me believe the actual payment should be $420 over 60 months. This is my first new car purchase so I would appreciate some helpful advice. Thanks.
We just negotiated a price of 21,400 (includes destination). We are having issues with delivery of the car, but dealer says we should have the car by Thursday. This was my first time being involved in the purchase of a car. So I did a lot of research on various sites including this one. First thing I did was get price qoutes through email. I read about another method involving faxing requests to the Fleet Managers of various dealerships. There was even a pre-written example on someone's web site. We got a quote of 21,400 within a day or two, we got a local dealer to match in and include the destination fee in it. Right now is a good time to get a car and it is close to end of the month were dealers are trying to meet a quota as well as it being close to end of quater (I believe) and they have that qouta to me too. I admit we got a good deal, but I don't think anyone should pay more than $100 - $300 over invoice.
You're probably right, but I'm not one to try to get a car the last day or two or the month. I think it's best to start either mid week before the last week or at the beginning of that last week. Also, wouldn't a quater be 4 months?
I have been periodically posting that Accord LX Automatics can be had for $17.5K + 50 doc + tax/license in SF Bay Area, Calif. This is a relatively large market that is currently a little slow due to the local economy. Dealers there compete on price, with big ads in the weekend papers. It looks like you are in Indianapolis, which I assume is a much smaller market. I suspect that you should be able to swing something no more than $18K plus taxes and fees. If your taxes and fees amount to $1821, then your deal is similar to a decent deal in the bay area. If your taxes/fees are less than $1821, then it's your decision on how much "extra" you are willing to pay in a smaller market. Your local market may be more similar to Seattle, where I am, where I paid about $400 more for my Accord than I would have in the Bay Area.
I took my initial test drive with Harry Kim at Muller Honda (aka Highland Park Motors). Then I sent quote requests to about six dealers, using the quote request forms on the individual dealer Web sites. I got a quote from the Internet Manager at Muller Honda, but I thought it was too high.
Since Muller Honda is convenient to my house, however, I called Harry directly to see if he would beat the Internet quotes. The lowest competitive quote I received was $23,544 (from Jacob's Twin Honda) which Harry beat with $23,400.00. I asked him to send the quote to my e-mail address, which he did. I printed it, drove to the dealership and got my car without fuss.
Actually, I haven't even test driven one yet. But, I'm really impressed with the amount of content for the price, and that's why I'm interested.
The only thing I can't get over is the styling of the rear on the sedan. I much prefer the coupe styling, but I want the four doors. And, I think manual transmissions are a lot more fun to drive.
So ... I'm still watching from the sidelines while you're enjoying a new car.
BTW, congratulations you lucky [non-permissible content removed]!
Could you give me the name of the dealership where you got your deal(or email me). Anybody else in the Charlotte NC area who would share their deal on a new 2003 V6 EXL it would be greatly appreciated.
I test drove a 2003 Accord Sedan EX-V6 with Leather and Navigation. It has the rear wing spoiler, splash guards, 3M hood protection, and wheel well moldings. It was one of the dealer's demo cars with 6,200 miles on it. There initial asking price was $26,600. This seems high for a demo model. What is a reasonable price for a demo model relative to invoice? The dealer is in Minnesota.
What car were you referring to at the price of 22,600? I am looking at EXV6's here in SC. BTW, you mentioned the great seats on the Accord, what do you think of them compared to the Camry (this would be leather), if you have any experience with both? Thanks.
I didn't like the styling of the rear either and think the coupe's rear looks much better IMHO, but after seeing the Sedan in person a couple of times, I've gotten use to it. I may get the deck lid spoiler put on it. Hopefully, our Accord will come in on Thursday so we can pick it up. I suggest you check out the Motely Fool article on "Buying a Car": http://www.fool.com/car/Buyingacar.htm?source=LN That's were I learned my fax attack technique from. Good luck man.
For current shoppers' info, lowest prices achieved over the last 2 months by forum contributors on 03 EX-V6s range from $24.2 to $24.7k out-the-door (including 3%-6% sales tax, roof visor, mudflaps, wheel locks, doc fee, etc.).
Oversupply in most cases, and in some cases where the dealer just badly needs to sell (like mine, where I paid $24.5k OTD for a EX-V6/auto coupe), determines how far one can negotiate.
Time at the negotiation table is greatly reduced during month-end when dealers need to unload stock to pay off interim financing and get replenished with new stock.
edmund: I couldn't find the post where I was talking about $22,600 ... please refresh my memory Gettin old I guess ....
I haven't been in a new Camry for an extended period of time but from my brief experience I would say the Accord seat offers more support and the Camry seat is a little "mushy" for me. I do think the seats in this Accord are some of the most comfortable I have ever been in and I have driven plenty of different types of vehicles.
