Limited 2007, Seattle blue w/ black interior, manual tranny, floor mats. 16,100 OTD after rebates.
Sporty, elegant, secure, with lots of acceleration, comfy seats, and QUIET cabin. I had never considered an Elantra before, but I decided to testdrive one after I had narrowed my choices to Honda and Nissan (both I have owned before and liked very much). I got hooked. Smoothest ride I've ever experienced in an economy car, and easily the roomiest.
Well, joe131, I had spent three months on the new car quest and decided on a Nissan Sentra, but I wanted both leather interior and manual tranny, which combo isn't available, so then I tried the Elantra just for the heck of it, and I was sold. Then spent another month looking around and comparison shopping until I got the price I wanted. Then the rebates kicked in, so I was lucky in my timing. TTR about 800 and change; delivery 600. 16,100 OTD. Don't know if it's a good deal in objective terms, but it's a great deal for me because I got what I wanted at the price I wanted to pay.
Gincana, That was a great deal on the new limited if I might say. Where did you purchase? City, State? If I got a deal like that when I go after the 07' SE I would be very happy indeed. Good job.
The inventory on-line doesn't portray all that they have or are willing to get you, mrcellus, but check out Staunton Auto Group in Staunton, VA. I used the contact person listed on the site (can't name her because of forum rules here), and she found the Seattle Blue/Black combo, which is not easy to find in Limited with manual transmission. Best dealership experience I've had, and worth driving to. They also sell Nissan, which was my original choice before I was won over by the Elantra.
Gincana, Thanks for that info-When I am ready I will do whatever it takes for a deal like that by all means. It seems like once you knew you wanted it you just lined up all the ducks. I am actually looking forward to the process of owning this auto working through the web and the likes. I also love the Seattle blue/black combo just want a automatic thought.
That would be a really great deal, since invoice on the car (if it has XM) is $16,816 and there is only a $1000 general rebate on the car now. Do you qualify for any of the other rebates, e.g. loyalty or graduate or military? It also depends on how high taxes and fees are in your area.
For comparison, Fitzmall, which offers some of the lowest Hyundai prices in the U.S., has SE ATs for around $15.4k. But I think that is only with the general rebate of $1000. But it's not out the door; it's before any taxes/license/fees.
You can always offer $15k OTD and see what the dealers say. It's end of month, so you never know...
Just bought a 2007 GLS automatic with option package 03 (A/C, 6-speaker CD w/aux input jack, fog lights, cruise, etc.). MSRP $16,500, invoice $15,900. I paid $14,500 out the door, including all taxes and fees, and the $1,000 incentive.
Taxes and fees would normally be about $800, so the negotiated price net of taxes and fees was around $13,700. They were ready to deal--end of the month is the only time to buy!
If $15k is your budget, then that would be your max offer price, right? Of course, the dealer may choose to decline your offer. One option is to go with the GLS, that may be obtainable with AT for $15k out the door.
"Standard features. 15000 out of door is realistic?"
not really. you might be able to get a sale price (discount plus rebate) of 15,000, but i doubt any dealer will eat taxes ($1200 in your area) and any doc fees (if applicable).
Not true. Try entering your zip code on the Special Offers page, and see if the loyalty rebates show up. They do for me, for the Elantra and for (I think) all 2007 models and some 2006 models.
I tried several zip codes, and the loyalty rebates showed up for MN, CA, NY, IL, and (importantly for this thread) Atlanta, GA, but not TX.
I just got a quote: $14999 include rebates. I have to pay 8% tax, document fee and title. That is going to push the offer around $16500 for out of door.
You say you, "...doubt any dealer will eat taxes ($1200 in your area) and any doc fees..."
I submit dealers can't eat doc fees since they are only added dealer profit to begin with, at least at all the dealers I've been to. Here I am referring to the $249 to $499 dealer doc fees only which are pure profit for the dealers. The true doc fees, such as registration, title and license fees are always charged to the customer, in my experience anyway.
I live in OH and was quoted $15,825 +ttl for an Elantra Limited w/ auto & floor mats (no sunroof package). OTD price was $16978, and that's with just the standard $1000 rebate, no loyalty.
Wow, great price for an automatic Limited with Sun & Sound! Could you give us a breakdown on the price you paid, e.g. the MSRP, what rebates you got, how much the taxes & fees were?
Thanks. I did forget to mention that it is automatic, but that should fall under "fully-equipped." Only thing I didn't get is the sun roof wind thingy. Got floormats though!
Looking for someone who's been shopping for an Elantra SE in Massachusetts. I did my homework and thought I could get one for under $16k OTD (including tax), but the lowest quote I could get was for a GLS for $15,300 +TT. Salesman didn't seem willing to negotiate. What is the lowest quote to expect for an SE (automatic, AC, power windows/doors)? I'm paying cash and I don't have lots of it. Thanks.
Did you ACTUALLY make the dealer a written offer on a specific car to buy at $16,000 out the door? If you have not yet done that, do it. If he says no, then walk out the door, get into your old car and drive to the next Hyundai dealer. But if he says yes, give him the money and drive your new car home. Forget about asking for "quotes". You don't need no steeenking "quotes". No one does.
Also, saw a new Elantra in the dark gray color and I think it looks the best on this car. A red stripe would make it look awesome. If you find the exact car you want, make an OTD offer and see what happens. Tomorrow is the end of the month and they just might want to push another unit out the door.
Check Townehyundai.com. They're in NJ and currently offer any Elantra at $2,000 under invoice ($2500 under invoice if you qualify for owner loyalty). That price is based @ dealer price $1K under invoice and $1K general rebate plus, if qualified $500 owner loyalty). To this they add $189 doc fee + tax/registration. We bought a Sonata SE XM from them 5 weeks ago. MSRP was $22080. We paid $16651 + $189 + $200 for reg fees (which included a temporary NJ registration [???] + plus 6% CT sales tax on pre-rebate price for an OTD of $18,189. The total rebates on the Sonata at that time were $2500 and they were selling at $1800 below invoice. Our price difference for Sonata SE compared to Elantra Limited was between $1500 & $1600. The Sonata deal is $300 less attractive now than in Feb. But you may want to compare a Sonata GLS to the Elantra SE.
We're near Bridgeport & New Haven CT, if that means anything to you as a reference point. It was about 100 miles to the dealer, one way. Towne Hyundai is about 30 to 45 minutes from the Tappan Zee Bridge.
I just checked Edmund's reported invoice price. Including floor mats, the Elantra SE is $16880 before TTL & doc fee. Take off $2K (or $2500 w/ loyalty) and you'll be very close to that $16K. If necessary, finance $1K for a year. The finance charges won't be very much (although APR may look real high, due to fixed cost built into the loan).
The documentation fee is another BS charge. It's just another way to get more money from the buyer. Sadly it's the same as S&H that so many vendors have added to their pricing. The CarStealers keep coming up with more fees to jackup the price. Does anyone remember some of the following: Undercoating, Clearcoat and a host of other low cost items charged at High prices. Some service departments charge Shipping fees for parts. That's the reason I call them CarStealers. Tip for the day: Keep your car for at least 6-10 years. After 4 years the car starts to pay you back. If everyone did that, prices would come down.
I warn anyone about dealers in NJ. My experience has been disappointing. They advertise a price and upon arrival the circus begins and the show can get pretty ugly. BE WARNED! I have been lied to, deceived, have had my keys held, etc. Be warned. If the deal is too good to be true, it is!
I really hope that you called the police when the dealer held your keys. It is illegal.
A little advice for everyone out there.
1. When you go to look at cars for the first time, bring a clipboard with you. Besides making it easy for you to take notes about the cars you are seeing, it is excellent sales person repellant. My wife and I went to three different dealers with the clipboard and not one sales person bothered us. We went back in without the clipboard and were immediately addressed at all three dealers.
2. If you are having a trade evaluated, give them the valet key (or a spare). This way, if they try to hold your keys, they can keep it and not your house key. You can always leave and go back later with a police officer to demand the return of your spare key. I've also noticed that dealers who attempt this only do it to people who come in alone.
3. Bring a friend - preferably someone who does not gain from your purchase. This person will be objective and not allow you to overspend (you should determine what the car is worth before you leave home, not at the dealership).
All that being said, there are many great dealers who want to work hard to earn your business. It's too bad that some of the bad ones remain and make the experience so nerve inducing for people.
The first rule when bringing your car for a trade-in is" NEVER let anyone drive your car unless you're with them. No excuses, you just stay with your car while they inspect/drive it. This avoids a multitude of irritating things that could happen.
I got into my 2003 GLS 5M w/ air, cruise for $11,400. Looking at a comparable 2007 GLS with option pkg. 03 it looks like it would be more like $14,500. The $500 loyalty incentive just disappeared this month. Granted there are are more goodies in the base model such as ABS and a gazillion air bags but some of this stuff just seems like more things to go wrong. Plus they eliminated the lumbar adjustment in the driver's seat - oh my aching back!
invoice is about $15,000, plus the $1000 rebate, and if you finance with hyundai you can get another $500 in bonus cash. so $13,500 is a reasonable price for a GLS manual elantra. while this price is higher than what you paid in 03, it is still a great value when compared to the competition. Prices on all things rise, and for $2k more than you paid 4 years ago, you can get a better car.
Edmunds lists the invoice at $15,006, the TMV at $14,447 (includes the $1000 incentive). I believe the $1000 incentive goes away if financed through Hyundai and I don't see any $500 financing incentive listed anywhere. I would plan to pay cash anyway so this wouldn't be an issue but this still leaves it at $14,006 assuming I could get it at the invoice price - a big assumption.
What would a Civic LX 4-door cost? Or a Corolla LE with ABS and side airbags? Then add an extended warranty to those prices. Even at $14k, the Elantra GLS with pkg 3 is a good value. I wish I could get a loaded Limited with automatic and moonroof for the $13k + T&L I paid for my loaded GT three years ago, but I think those days are gone. So are the days of getting a Civic LX for under $11k, which I did in 1988.
Unless I missed something, Hyundai is offering $2,000. general rebates through April 30. Military rebate of $500. if qualified. Or low APR financing. At least in the Northern California area.
if you finance with hyundai with their regular rates, you get 500 bonus cash in addition to the 1000 rebate. hyundai doesn't charge a fee if you payoff early, so finace with them, then pay it off in 3 months.
even if you paid sticker (around 15,600) for the GLS model, and got the 1000 rebate, this car would still be a better value than every single competitor as far as price per options.
I saw a LA area dealer advertise a GLS automatic for under $12k the other day. That is with the $2000 rebate available in CA. I don't think it had package 3 though, but it did have A/C.
I could do without fog lamps (use them maybe once every couple of years) and a high-powered stereo, but I consider safety features like ABS, 4-wheel disc brakes, and EBD essential in a modern car. Also I consider power windows very useful on a 4-door car.
I would like to see a telescopic wheel added as standard equipment across the board. Then I could make do with a GLS instead of the SE, although I really like the look of the 16" alloys and appreciate the interior upgrades on the SE--but I can live without them.
I'm shopping for the 2007 Hyundai Elantra (My 99' Elantra was totalled last week) and I seem to have been offered a fantastic deal. But is it too good to be true? :confuse:
I was offered the Elantra SE + remote start + an upgrade from the 5 yr/60,000 bumper to bumper to 10 yr/100,000 bumper to bumper. All that for $15,400.
Now, I'm not stupid and I checked out with other dealerships to see if they would either better the deal, say its a good buy or if its crap.
They ALL said its crap  , but very happily said they would help me. Duh.
Of course I called back to confront my salesperson who ENSURES me that that is the price, with the additional items and no extra hidden costs. (I know about the DMV fees and such)
WHO'S LYING!? Someone is and I would like to know who you think it is. Help?
Oh and BTW - after reading the thread.... whats this extra $500 if you finance through Hyundai? They never told me that. And is or isn't the Loyalty still in place in New York. They're telling me no...... some of you on here are saying yes. I'M SOOOOO CONFUSED!! HELP HELP HELP! I just want a honest buy!
Alas, the loyalty rebates disappeared for April. The current general rebate on the Elantra in NY is $1000. There is also a $400 college grad rebate available if you qualify and finance through Hyundai. There's $500 available if you are in the military. I don't know where the "$500 off if you finance through Hyundai" comes from. There is no such rebate on any 2007 Hyundai in NY. You can see details here (be sure to select "NY"):
some areas of the country, such as mine (south-central), have an additional 500 rebate if you finance with hyundai (at their regular rates). This doesn't show in hyundai's website, but it is there.
If you are unsure as to whether the deal for the SE is legit or not, just have them print their paperwork and when you go to sign just make sure the numbers are the same as what they have told you. If they have changed, just stand up and leave the dealership.

hyundai has done away with the owner loyalty rebate on the 07s. right now you can get the 1k rebate plus $500 more if you finance with hyundai though.

MSRP: $19745
$16851 Sell price
+ $1549 tax & misc fees
- $1000 manufacturer rebate
- $500 valued owner rebate
- $400 college grad rebate
There's a $500 military rebate too, but too bad no one in my family was in the service.
If you have not yet done that, do it.

Well... to each his own I guess!
Personally, a red stripe on that color gray is a :P .

ABS
Rear disc brakes
Electronic brakeforce
Power windows
The things I could do without in pkg 03:
172 watt stereo
fog lights
Perhaps with these deletions pricing might be even more attractive.

You can buy an Elantra in NJ for $2200 under invoice (prices good until the end of April) + $189 Doc fee + TTL.
