And the DVD RES, the dealer can install that with the DVD player into the front dash (in place of coin box). So why not get both DVD RES and NAV?
You just can't do the reverse and get RES first!
You have to start numbering the posts when you post your editorial as you do it 4 days after the fact. I don't even remember what I had for dinner last night, how can I know what you are referring to? I just know my dinner wasn't Korean because I know you NAV couldn't point me to a good Korean food around here.
Post 3962 - They can say whatever and we can say whatever. The nature of these forums has it that people will be bias. That's a given. As long as we recognize our own prejudice when we make certain statements, I have no problems. It's just when they start say we the Ody owners are "bashing," their beloved Siennas but when they make statements like Sienna is the most luxurious van in the world, much better than the Ody in everything under the sun, I would label that bashing as well. Classic case of pot calling the kettle black.
Post 3963 - If you get Odys at $2 below invoice, you be the new king of the hill by whopping $3 over the current record holder. Until you start using blandfordm's fees calculations, then who knows where you might be.
Post 3967 - seeing it's Sunday night, I can post 50 messages without anyone else responding if I wanted to. But I don't like to listen to myself talk/type...
Like I said to many Ody buyers here the past month, prices are dropping by the day. Whatever you are getting today is unheard of 4 months ago...
Whatever the case, they are changing their way of doing things. In the weekend paper, they claim they only have 14 Odys now. Who knows what's going on with them? You still looking for your black NAV?
Once you get it, maybe you can tell where's good Korean restaurant in the East Bay as Andrew's NAV is not talking to me...
I would appreciate it if you would let me know what dealers you got those prices from...I am hoping to buy in the next week or so...
Thanks...
Now, to food: On oposite sides of Post St in SF, near the Miyako Hotel in Japantown are two of the best Korean restaurants around, Korean House and Seoul Garden, but unfortunately you got to get yourself into the City. Then, there's the Sorabol "chains" at the malls, I like the one at the Marketplace food court in Emeryville, good food/huge portions/reasonable prices! You can get a lot of Kal-bi plates for what I'm NOT spending on a new Ody!
I think the Odyssey is the best looking minivan out there--a lot better looking than the Sienna. The shape of the Odyssey is just awesome--a masterpiece. We made the right decision on getting the Odyssey as the Sienna is just not good looking, and looks are very important since we will be looking at the thing for another 10 years?
Harryfat, I took my Ody back in to have the splash guards installed and boy do they work well. They are nothing fancy, but with the rain in our neck of the woods lately I have had the opportunity to try the van with and without and they keep a lot of extra splash and debris off the sides. I had negotiated for these up front and the dealer matched the handa-accessories price. Since I purchased the van for my wife on her B.-day we had to take it home that day, hence the return trip to the dealer.
But some dealers still does it, like San Leandro, Steven Creek and Livermore and many other Honda dealers still lists all their vans on the web site.
Oh, well, just one more hurdle as you deal with them.
What was the price you were charged on the mud guards?
1 - Tell the lowest price dealership that you want on color only and have them call you when it gets in.
2 - Check with other dealerships that have the color you want and see if they will price match.
When we got our Ody in March, my wife was not willing to be "color blind" so I did both of the tactics listed above until the dealership finally made a trade with someone at no charge to me as I told them I am emailing others and getting price matches elsewhere.
With the new Sienna out, the Ody dealers should be very willing to cut a deal. If nothing else, wait until you're close to month end and someone will find you a color you want. Good luck.
Anyway, I posted my review of Zaino, just to remind you. Maintenance forum
How about providing the rest of us with a link or at least a post number. There's like a zillion Zaino posts, how do we know which one is yours?
Or a Ebert style quick review? Thumbs up or Down?

...must not get... sucked in....
Sorry Sal, no order this week :-).
I think clay bars are great for new cars, Dad16. Often there's rail dust and other contaminates from the shipping that the clay will get out. Makes the sheet metal feel nice and smooth.

Now only if I could find a product that keeps my tires nice and wet look. Armor all doesn't impress me anymore, neither does Wet Tire.
When you say "sun shield", I assume you're talking about them things you put underneath your windshield after you parked the car and to keep the car cool?
I don't like the the bulky folding fan types, so I got the cheap ones from Wal-Mart for $10 that folds into itself. the only drawback is that even though it says it supposed to fit the Odyssey at "super jumbo" size, they lied. It's too big. So I'd think Jumbo size will do it.
So does that mean you can go over to the other Ody versus Sienna board and say, "With the money I saved in buying an Ody versus the Sienna, I can buy X bottles of Zaino"...
On the dealers price sheet there is actually a $20 charge to drop the cargo tray in. I would guess the splash guards could be installed in about 30 minutes or less if the installer had no experience. There are two pre-marked holes or indents under the wheel wells where two screws go and the third secures the other side of the flap. I didn't read the directions from handa-acc., but looking at them after they have been installed it sure looks easy.
However, this stuff is concentrate, so you use very little. The clay, wash, polish, are pretty expensive, but you use very little.
The first day was a killer, my thighs and back are aching. After that, you apply it like any other wash and wax stuff, just use very little. Then to make sure it shines you do a first day process one more time before winter.
I think this is just for weirdo's like me who wants to keep a shiny car as long as they can. I also have friends that prefer to do other things besides clean the car. I can't say this is for everyone, but if you are like me, you'll like this stuff.
Steve, I heard more about Zaino so I went with the population. Couldn't read too much on Mothers or that other one. Any input? Sorry this should be a prices paid forum.
It is up to you if you want to put the time and effort, and money first, to get a shiny car.
I have friends that are just happy to bring it to a car wash. I am happy to do this only during the winter, during the warm days, I prefer to do the job myself.
I use to take the seats out so I can vacuum underneath them, now that is weird.
I think there's "just a slight profit" margin in that installation process, don't you?
I'll look into the mud guards maybe when I bring in the Ody in later on in the summer for the first oil change. I'll be the only weirdo asking about mud guards on July 4 when it's 95 degrees....
I know you guys are out in the Zaino world, but if you're going to talk Zaino to us neophytes, please explain just the basic terminology:
1 - What's Mothers? I assume this ain't the "Mother of All Wars" or "Mother's Day is this Sunday"
2 - What's Clay Bar?
Will someone just walk through the process for us in 100,000 words or less? What you do first and what you're supposed later on? Just a brief steps A to Z will be appreciated by all the people who just bought their Odys and would like to keep it looking great, but don't have the patience/time to read/understand the Zaino vocab.
Thanks.
To harryfat:
>1 - What's Mothers? I assume this ain't the "Mother of All Wars" or "Mother's Day is this Sunday"
I'm sure they're talking about the brand "Mothers" <http://www.mothers.com/> which makes car waxes, detailing products, etc.
>2 - What's Clay Bar?
A bar that's used to removes buildup on your paint. Go to this website for an explanation: http://www.properautocare.com/usclaybartor.html
Shifterkart has it right; sorry about the shorthand. Mother's made my wax and my clay bar and you can just buy a bar for around $10. You are supposed to "apply" it with some spray lube, but I've had good luck with rubbing it on the paint while running the hose.
The quick version for non-Zaino is to wash the car, then gently rub the clay bar over the sheet metal. This isn't hard; the hard part is waxing it afterwards. Some people wash 1st with Dawn dish detergent to remove the old wax, but any car wash will do ok.
There is no quick version for Zaino, LOL. The application isn't any harder, but you have to let some coats dry so it can take an entire weekend. There are some other incantations to follow to get the ultimate shine. Don't forget to remove the hems from your US made Egyptian cotton towels so the polyester thread doesn't scratch the finish (no, I'm not making that up).

Must wax car...
Must vacuum car...
$30 or $75 to do it myself...
...
Must pay someone to wash, wax, and vacuum car...
I am WAY too AR to do that myself. This would cost me an entire day per car!

2007 Honda Civic EX - Atomic Blue
2013 Honda Civic LX - Crimson Pearl
As far as good Korean food, my golden rule is, "it's ALL good as long as it's NOT moving" and there's plenty of kim-chee!!! Good driving and Good eating to all you lucky Ody owners!!!
PS to harryfat: my first choice was a black EX-L w/DVD, not NAV, we got those "for free", remember?
Anyway, the two post above pretty much covered your answers. Again this stuff is really for weirdos like myself who want to make a deal with the devil to keep a shiny car. Stuff is great and expensive, but it last long. The difference is that first day, after that it's just the usual wash and wax when you want. I have heard of fanatics waxing every month during the summer season, not me.
If I knew I was going to make a deal with the devil to have a shiny car, I should have asked him to get me a deal on the Sienna.
nnnnnaaaaaaahhhh, even the devil can't get me a deal on the Sienna in my neck of the woods.
Ummm - there are those of us who Z every weekend in the summer months.
It takes a while to load up, but worth the wait for some amazing stuff.

The reason we mentioned Korean food was that Mr. NAV Andrew was complaining awhile back that his NAV showed no Korean restaurants in his area. So I was jsut playing off of that in seeing if there's any good Korean food in the Dublin area (yeah, right). Seeing you're ether only dude I know of that is thinking of getting a NAV in this area, I figure I ask you....
I concur with your assessment of food, but have you seen on TV some places that eats live/just killed fish? Expensive too...

Because my car was used daily for commuting in the North East, I have to clay it every spring. In addition to the visible dirt, road salts, and mud, a lot of street level brake dust gets into almost everything. Try rubbing your hand across a freshly washed car. If you feel those tiny little rough spots or the finish is just not absolutely smooth, chances are that brake dust has found a home on your car. This dust is metalic in nature and is a by-product of all the cars and trucks you see on the road. Although very small, dust particles attach themselves to everything and are hard to wash off. Because this dust has microscopic sharp edges, it can become embedded in the finish of a car. Actually, it will embed into the top layer, be it Zaino, wax, or clear coat. After rusting out, the dust then leaves tiny pib marks in the finish. This speeds up the aging of the paint. Claying removes this brake dust with a minimum of damage to the Zaino and/or clear coat. It actually pulls the dust out of the surface. Afterwards, you car's finish will feel very smooth and your finish will last longer too.
Thanks for the explanation.
I guess I'm just too lazy to get into the new religion. All this sounds like way too much work for me at this point in my life...
I have owned the new Ody for less than 2 months and still haven't washed it once with all the rain we've been having lately.
Maybe later on I might get sucked into this, but for now, I'm content on driving a dirty van....
GASP. Blasphemy! An Ody is not just a van <ROTFL, VBG>
