Does the $30,600 include tax, reg, fees?? If so, those things vary across the nation and out the door implies those are included. Please post the price of the car only so we can advise you.

Price of Van on sticker is 30,360.00 they want 31,224.49 out the door tax, reg, fees included.
    Thanks 2003 EX-L DVD

So it's MSRP is what you are saying. Most of the people here will tell you you're nuts. Below MSRP is the norm for the most part.
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
I had to re-read your statement because Robr2 is absolutely correct. No one should expect to pay MSRP for the Ody, unless somehow, time has brought us back to PRE-04 Sienna days.

I paid $28,460 for my 03 EXL-RES and that was back in March. Tell the salesman that he is nuts. If you read several post back, some have even gotten deals as low as $500 below invoice to invoice price.

At that price, the only one getting "A DEAL" is the salesman.

And don't fall for the line that he has them in stock, any other place has a 6 month waiting list. That is full of ____ (fill in the blank). The only one with a waiting list is the 04 Sienna, and I don't think it's that long of a wait any longer.
  • hislanderhislander Member Posts: 67
I was able to obtain the EX-L for $500 under invoice in Houston around mid-July '03. At that time, there were at least 30 vans on the lot and that made it easy for me to negotiate. However, two weeks ago when I went in for warranty service (defective rear shock), I found only one on the lot. The guy who sold me the vehicle said that they stop receiving the new vans for a while while they are clearing the inventory ready for the '04. Thus you should expect to pay more for the van now than few months ago or you should wait few months when the '04 comes out and the market saturated again. Another word, invoice price is hard to come by now a day. Good luck.
  • mackeegmackeeg Member Posts: 7
Thats what they said. The demand is there so we are not going down any. If you won't buy it at that price someone else will. That is in Virginia Beach,VA
    Thanks for the input.
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
Walk out. They aren't the only dealers around. Trust me, it requires some foot work or finger work for the internet, but with some effort you will find yourself with some deep discount. Tell him, the Ody is no longer the only bad boy in town, you have choices now. If he thinks he can get away with MSRP, then let him try.

I wouldn't even entertain another call from him. Just start shopping somewhere else, no need to waiste any more energy on him.
  • mackeegmackeeg Member Posts: 7
Was 28,460 for your van total with tax tags, etc?
    Thanks
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
$28460 was just the van, not includuing my 6% NJ tax, and all the other fees.

Andrew are you ok, I know he fell off his seat, he pays 3.25% out in Ok, and TX doesn't pay any taxes.
  • aspesisteveaspesisteve Member Posts: 833
    it's 8.25% here in California and there's still a $38 Billion deficit.

Then there's registration which is due to triple, which means a $30k Odyssey will go from $200 to $600 every year just to register.

Oh, then you get to fill the tank with gas that today exceeds $2.00 per gallon (that's the cheap stuff at the cheap station). The gas has an additive called MTBE which shows up in the ground water as a carcenogen.

I got a quote from a dealer. Is $26,000 + $460 Destination Charge + TTL a good deal in the denver area?

    Thanks.
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
mackeeg, he is right. I totally forgot that aspesisteve, harryfat, socal and among others in the state of CA have it pretty bad when it comes to car TTL's.

Mackeeg - point here is that out the door price doesn't really matter to us, what we really ask from you and others whether in asking or telling us, is the price of the car alone. And if anything came with that price. Taxes, Titles and any other your state decide to put on won't do anyone any good unless they are in the same state as you.

I thought by now gas prices in CA would have gone down a bit. And I was complaining when I saw $1.75. Sorry to hear the bad deal for everyone in CA.
  • mackeegmackeeg Member Posts: 7
Price of Van on sticker is 30,360.00. Dealer said would take off 500.00. Taxes in Va. Beach are 3.2%. I went to another dealer and they said same thing, they are selling them at sticker price. Don't know if it is worth it. Looking at 2004 Quest also now. I do like the Honda though.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Honda corporate is hurting but Honda USA apparently isn't, at least not in the Odyssey demand department.

    Bloomberg

During the recent blackout, Honda elected to keep producing Odysseys and let Civic production slide. Meaning, I think, that Odysseys are still selling well. No use discounting them if they are selling.

Mackeeg, I wish I can tell you that I went to the first dealer and they were happy to give me my deal. Unfortunately, the journey, or my journey wasn't that simple. I got screwed by one dealer, I almost drove 2 hours to a dealer only for him to back out of his word the last minute. I emailed pretty much all dealers in the tri state area.
Then my last final email to about 20 dealers, was a nasty one. And that got me to the owner.
That doesn't mean this is your answer, but what I have to tell you is that you have to do some footwork.
Decide on how far you are willing to drive for your deal. For us it was an area of 75 miles from home or 2 hours away. And we hit everyone until we got our deal. Be prepared to walk out, to say NO, to tell them what you want and nothing less. Be prepared for them to call you crazy, lunatic, a non-believer, etc... it comes down to your pocket or theirs.
I can't help too much in the VA area, but I have tried to help others here in the NJ, NY and CT area.

I think if you are concerned about a bargain, since your original post was asking our opinion if it was a good deal or not, that you will have a hard time getting any bargains on the Sienna and also the Quest. They are after all the new bad boys on the block.

    Good Luck.

I looked at a 2003 T&C LXi. MSRP 35,385. It has DVD,Heated seats, organizer, stereo with CD, they said they would take 29000.00 for that,or 29997.13 out the door. Just don't know what to do!!!

Just purchased a 2003 Ex-L w/Navi from a bay area dealership for $500 over invoice ($28,300)plus tax and fees. I also have the frog lights installed for $609, which were $30 more than other dealers. We did all the talking over the phone and the sales person was very helpful and straight forward. We are very happy with the purchase.
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
All you have to look at is jameshu88. NORMALLY West coast and East coast was the last areas to get any discounts. At first I would have taken $1000 discount, but after hearing everyone in Ohio and Chicago area getting $2k off, I wanted the same.
Here jameshu88 was able to get $500 over invoice, thats great. Congratulations to jameshu88 BTW.

I too looked into the T&C. If you look into Chryslers site, they said the EX was designed to compete with the Ody EX trim. So I can't quite remember the differences are between the LXi and the EX. TO US, the minor price difference we were getting, we wanted the Ody. TO US, it was the better van.
  • mytrimytri Member Posts: 1
Jones of Lancaster, PA is offering 2003 Ody for $1675 below MSRP and $1000 off 2004 MSRP whatever that turns out be, they do not have the 04 prices in yet.

Has anybody in the PA/NJ/NY area gotten anything better than that? Has anybody been negotiating UP from invoice? We will be buying the car in the next few weeks.

I am not including the tax...

    Thanks

finding the deal doesn't come easy for most.

another option is to hire a broker. For a fee of a couple hundred dollars, they can do all the "foot work" for you, find what you want and save you alot of money and hassel -

I'd say if you dred the thought of haggling with car dealers, and most people do, yet want a bargain - locate a broker to do it for you.

I just read that you got an Oddy in Bay Area for $500 over invoice, could you please let me know the name of the dealer so I can try and work a similar deal. I want a EX-L Res and I will need to buy one in the next couple of weeks. Thanks.

Brokers are an interesting breed. There don't seem to be too many of them out there. Often they get the consumer a good price for a couple hundred bucks. And often they split the holdback or get other spiffs from the dealer for hooking them up with a ready buyer. Makes you wonder how much money they left on the table getting you a deal.

I still like avoiding salespeople by using the blast fax/email quote method. Check out the Tips & Advice page for buying articles if you haven't already.

mytri- the best price i got was 25860, plus taxes, tags, etc. from two places (one in PA and one in NJ).

Let me know how you fared.
  • SylviaSylvia Member Posts: 1,636
I bought my Ody at the end of March and paid $800 over invoice. A few weeks later in the board the bar went down to around $200-$500 over invoice.

I bought at Marin Honda. Be sure and use the dealer locator off of the vehicle detail/price section at Edmunds. I found that many of the dealers were willing to negotiate online.

If you are going to email, be sure and put the model, leather, entertainment, etc. Tell them NO dealer add-ons (pinstripes). Typically in the email back they will ask for specifics or even quote you a price, then you can state you are only interested in dealing from the factory invoice. (V. starting from MSRP and coming down).

    Happy shopping!

I just picked up my Ody EX-L today. I live in Va but local dealers were not willing to go more than a couple hundred dollars below sticker. I bought from Honda East in Cincy for $350 over invoice. Temporary registration and cargo tray brought price to $26,529. I still have to pay sales tax to VA DMV.

It was a good experience. Flew to Cincy with e-saver. They picked me up at airport and paperwork was done in about an hour. Basically, I got the Ex-L for the same price that I would pay for the EX-cloth in Richmond area.

Thanks for the additional info. I will contact both dealers to insure a good price on the vehicle. My real dilema at this point is whether I can buy this vehicle and secure it for an end of September pick-up. I am not even 100% sure right now that I will be back in the States by that time but it is looking to be more of a certainty. I am just worried that I may be in limbo between model years if I wait to purchase until the end of Sept. I dont know when they will actually receive the 2004 models and I know the 2003 inventories are being phased out quickly. Bad time of the year for the military to send me back stateside. lol.

Saw an '03 Ody EX-L with DVD in 2nd choice color (Sandstone w/ Ivory). Doesn't have 1st choice (Sage w/ Fern) in stock and doesn't expect to get anymore. Dealer says one in 1st choice color in an '04 is in transit but price is $400 more. Since it is essentially the same car, just a newer model, I'm trying to decide if it's worth it. I do prefer the darker interior of the '04. With 2 young kids, I figure it won't show as much dirt. However, I also wonder if the darker leather would absorb more heat and therefore be hotter in the summer than the ivory.

I'd appreciate any opinions on getting the '04 vs the '03 or getting lighter vs darker interior.

BTW - The dealer quoted us 29,900 for the '03, which includes tax, tags, etc.
  • tcasboytcasboy Member Posts: 214
$400 for a brand new model year vehicle versus a year old new vehicle is definitely worth it, if you ask me. The price probably went up at least that much between the model years, plus its in the first choice of color! Sounds like a great deal to me, but its not my money.

Had a great experience buying from a dealer in between Vegas and Salt Lake City. Called Stephen Wade Honda in St. George Utah, looking for the best price. Told him I had a dealership quote me 27,600 on an 03 EXL, he asked what it would take below that to get me to do business with him. So he gave me $27,400 quote but said he didn't have the color I wanted. Did have one coming in in Sept/Oct but wasn't sure if it was an 03 or 04. He called me back and said it was an 04 and he would give me the same price. I had him fax up a sales contract to me that day and I signed it and sent in the down payment......Very good deal. Taxes and license out the door I am still $120 below 03 sticker.

We're on the hunt for a 2003 ody, what did hugoz pay for his at College Park? I have gone back and read good and bad things about them. We are considering flying to Chicago to get about $1500 off prices here in VA, but a little worried about getting out there and being trapped....

I bought my 2003 Odyssey EX-L at AutoPark Honda in Cary last month and they gave me $2170 below MSRP. It was significantly lower than any other local dealer offered me via an internet quote (by around $800). Good luck.
  • rbell2rbell2 Member Posts: 180
Do you know of any differences in the '04 versus the '03?
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
I was under the impression that the only difference between the years was that on the 04 they offered a snow board attachment for the roof rack. Other than that, it is the same exact car.

Other than that, specs wise, and engine wise it was the identical twin.

    Hi-
We are in AZ planning to relocate to the Houston area within a few months.... trying to decide weather to get the 03 EX now or wait and get the 04 in Houston. Does anyone know if I would have to have anything done to a new car to satisfy emissions in Houston????
Also- What is the invoice price of the 2003 EX? My dealer isn't being real up front about the base price... he is working on a 'here is the payment we can get you too with your trade its..." Any suggestions???
    thanks!

    NoahVA,

I've checked out College Park Honda too, their prices are higher compared with other dealers around the metro area. I bought my Accord from FairFax Honda and saved 1K compared with College Park Honda's price.

Check out Criswell Honda in Germantown, I found their price for the 03 van is low compared with College Park Honda, and plan to buy from them.

Hersons Honda on Rockville is not a good place to buy your Honda. 1st the price is high. 2nd they don't keep their words. It happened to me when I planned to buy my Accord from Hersons Honda. We got the deal and I was just waiting for the ride to pick up the car. Before leaving my house 5', the saleman called me and told me that he got my car ready and some managers didn't know about the deal and sold it.... to make it short, I will never buy my next Honda at Hersons Honda again, and would not recommend that dealer to anyone that I know.

About going to Chicago, if I were you, I would call some dealers in Chicago to check out the price first before flying there.

Good luck with your shopping !

Anyone that purchased in Virginia know the sales tax for vehicles in Virginia?? I know its less than the 4.5% normal sales tax -- Is it 3.2% or 3.5% on vehicles?

    Thanks in advance.
  • jmaxjmax Member Posts: 1
You may want to check on the taxes if you buy now and then move. In LA. whenever you register a car you have to pay taxes on the car even if the taxes were paid when you bought it.(out of state)
I purchased my EX in June for 25295. A co-worker just got an EX-L for 26311 from different dealers in the N. O. area.
  • niceguyniceguy Member Posts: 20
    bschue1,

I live in Maryland and pay 5%. I'm pretty sure for VA, you pay 4.5%. You may get some tax deduct if you go with the hybrid models like the Insight, or Prius.

    Goodluck with your shopping !

I just got delivery of 2003 Ody EX Silver. It costed 24,900, and including tax, title, etc it came to 26,389. It is from Atamian Honda, Tewksbury, MA. To get this deal I had to pay completely on Aug 31. Honda Cars of Boston, Everett,MA had the next best deal of 25360. Shopping in the month end surely helps.
  • noahvanoahva Member Posts: 3
I was told by a dealer that it was 3% of the purchase price, but I can't confirm if that's correct...........
p.s. Thanks for the info niceguy
