2013 and Earlier - Hyundai Sonata Prices Paid and Buying Experience
When people are nice enough to report the deal they got, why don't they also name the city, state and dealer name so other people may potentially take advantage of the information?
I agree with you backy. If the car is new (less than 500 miles on it) and comes with warranty and there is no cosmatic defect on it, 13K is a steal. 14K is also a steal.15K is also a steal. Did I emphesize enough? Of course I meant auto tran!!
Hi guys, thank you for your information, I have just purchased a new 2009 Sonata, and I do love it. Drives great and gives a good gas mileage. I've bought my car this past monday, labor day weekend from Sunnyvale Hyundai in Sunnyvale California. It's a Sonata GLS 4 Cylinder with Auto tran, and I've bought it for $16348 after $2000 rebate plus tax and fees. I was very happy with the deal, a lot of other dealers tried to take me to them by giving me lower prices which included loyalty, military, and college grad rebates and not telling me, but Sunnyvale Hyundai guys were very upfront and honest about the deal from the beginning and did not give me false hopes and numbers. I know that Rebate on the Elantra just went down, but there was no change on the rebate on the Sonata's this month, : ) , I was very happy with my experience, and the level of customer service that I've got from Sunnyvale, I have purchased many cars before but this was the best experience so far. I highly recommend both the car and the guys at Sunnyvale Hyundai.
I'm pretty sure there's a way to disable this security feature though...just not sure how... besides it's legal in most states and I'm not really sure what the difference between this and text messaging or changing the radio/cd/iPod, is anyways.
My need for this is mainly for my wife (passenger) and my child in the back/middle to watch something and keep them entertained on our next vacation trip in Dec.
Just found this on the Veracruz forum. I assume it would be the same for the sonata. Anyone tried this?
**************** The Middle East version Veracruz comes with a touch screen, along with NAV, DVD, TV, BT phone and AUX. Mainly the TV and DVD will not show while the vehicle is in move, but not any more. Ok, I know this may be dangerous while driving. But when the front passenger seat is occupied, without this, he/she will be unhappy. For the other passengers I got a roof flip DVD for them. Here is the video to proof it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXby_e-e-xs You may wonder how this been done. There is a cable from the car computer sending signal of the vehicle speed and it is attached to the front screen, when the vehicle moves the screen shuts down. Simply unplug the cable. To get into details, I just went to the dealer, talked to the electrician there to make it as “an outside deal” knowing that he done it for several Azeras before. While the car was is maintenance, he just accomplish it, nice and clean. Thought to share this with you guys. ******************
I would gander that every state has some sort of a distracted driver law, which would include watching a DVD. The difference between changing your radio/CD/iPod and watching a DVD is that changing or adjusting the former is a momentary action while watching a DVD is continuous.
Correct, it doesn't mean that if it is in the dash the passengers aren't watching it. The issue is that the driver is able to see it and it could be a distraction.
BTW, it's illegal in Tennessee...
55-9-105. Televisions in motor vehicles — Operation or installation — Applicability — Violations. —
(a) A person shall not operate a motor vehicle with a television receiver, a video monitor, or a television or video screen capable of displaying a television broadcast or video signal that produces entertainment or business applications, if the receiver, monitor or screen is intended to display images visible to the driver in a normal position when the vehicle is in motion. (b) A person shall not install in a motor vehicle a television receiver, a video monitor, or a television or video screen capable of displaying a television broadcast or video signal that produces entertainment or business applications, if the receiver, monitor or screen is intended to display images visible to the driver in a normal position when the vehicle is in motion. (c) The prohibitions contained in this section shall not apply to: (1) The following equipment when installed in a motor vehicle: (A) A vehicle information display; (B) A navigation or global positioning display; (C) A visual display used to enhance or supplement the driver's view forward, behind, or to the sides of a motor vehicle; or (D) A television receiver, video monitor, television or video screen or any other similar means of visually displaying a television broadcast or video signal, if the equipment is designed to prevent the driver from viewing the entertainment or business application when the motor vehicle is being driven; (2) Television receivers or monitors used in government-owned vehicles by law enforcement officers in the course of their official duties; (3) A wireless telephone or communication device when used for placing or receiving a telephone call or to access a navigation or global positioning display; (4) Electronic monitors or displays used to monitor livestock being transported; or (5) (A) Computer or other electronic displays or monitors used in utility vehicles by employees of the utility in the course of their official duties; provided, however, that use shall be permitted only while the vehicle is stopped, standing or parked; (d) This section does not apply to local, state or federal law enforcement officers who are engaged in the performance of their official duties. (e) A violation of this section is a Class C misdemeanor.
thanks for the info but wow how crazy... I know I would look at the display more when using XM radio or GPS than I would if the Wiggles video was playing for my child in the back. How crazy... oh well the laws these days
so does anyone know about my question regarding the college graduate rebate. my wife is graduating this Dec. but does it only apply if financing through Hyundai?
Do taxes apply on rebates? I have a dealer trying to charge me tax on the $2,000 before it is taken off of the total price? is this correct
the price they give me for a 4cyl limited w/ nav and all the extra goodies (bluetooth, etc.) is $22,470 before taxes - I'm thinking this might not be a good deal
Some states charge tax before the rebate is deducted, some after. If you don't trust your dealer (who does this kind of thing every day) to do it right, you can check with the Department of Revenue for your state.
I might be purchasing a 2009 Sonata 4cyl limited with Navigation at the end of September in Kansas City area. Any information on dealer / price experience will be appreciated. Thanks.
If you're looking for good service, I'd recommend Capitol Hyundai in Columbia, SC. They are competing against the other Hyundai dealer in town (Jim Hudson Hyundai), so occasionally they advertise a loss leader in the local paper to draw customers in. These loss leaders are usually base models with absolutely nothing added. And they are 5-speed manuals. There's only one of those on the lot at a time though and the sale doesn't come often.
The Sonata I have now has 70 miles on it. If you're still interested in it, let me know.
1. I currently have a 8gb thumb drive attached and it plays, shows names and everything.
2. No iPod (ugh) but you can control the music with the flash drive thru the steering wheel, change tracks and fast forward.
3. Don't know but it use to be the speed sensor in some. But the Sonata only needs the car to be placed in drive for it to stop displaying (Still plays sound) movies. So not sure what it is....
Also, I found a place that has a connector that lets you have a backup camera. Only problem is its on a Korean website.....
4. I paid 22.8 OTD for a 2009 Limited I4 with Navi in Pearl White. I could have done better but I had a good trade in deal that got me out of my previous vehicle.
Got 37mpg on the highway the other day, so that's nice.
Hi, I am getting ready to purchase a GLS with preferred package but don't trust my local dealers (Rochester, NY). I am willing to travel-- anyone have a dealer they recommend? Northern central and western Penn are not far, Ohio, NJ, Vt and Mass are accessible too. Looking for good price and non-sleazy outfit. Thanks!
I would start at the invoice price and work up. That is before the rebate. The $2000 rebate does not effect the dealers cost. It sounds like a resonable deal to me but you will hear from people that got the same car for $2000 less some how I bet.
in late july, we got a V6 Limited with Nav and bluetooth for $26100 ($24100 after rebate) not incl taxes -- Rebate was of course after TTL but I am giving you the general idea. Not that we were very picky on color (int. and ext.). the above price included carpet mats and cargo net.. so, I would say that since you have a V4, you should try and negotiate a bit more since as per edmunds, V4 are somewhat lesser than V6es. your offer is decent but i feel you can get it down by another 300-400 $. these cars are selling decentl so not sure if dealer would do it though hope this help
Thanks to everyone who provided valuable information on these forums. As a grateful member, I am posting the price I paid for my 2009 sonata limited 4 cyl. This model is without the navigation package and cargo nets, but includes floor mats. Total price (inclusive of dest, title & registration, and Wisconsin state tax 5.5%) == $ 21350.
I just hope I got a good deal, because I personally could not find any price lower that people paid on the forum.
Once again, thanks all.
The above is copied from post #5341 in this forum. There are many others similar to this if you take the time to look. Check Fitzmall Hyundai and Towne Hyundai websites and start your negotiation from their internet pricing. From what has been reported on these forums, they are a couple of the most competitive Hyundai dealers in the country. Not saying you can match their prices in your locale but it is a number to shoot for or maybe even beat. Good luck.
As a side note to all: It seems like people could use these forums a lot better by going back 10-20 pages and reading forward. It seems like about 75% of the questions posted have already been answered if one would only look.
In Northern VA, I've been seeing about $1500-$1600 below invoice prior to the rebate being offered. That is for the Limited I4, some with Navi and some without. That's bringing those with the Navi to about $21,000 plus TTL.
I was offered 21,300 from Conicelli Hyundai in Conshohocken, PA. This is the highest price I have received for a GLS 4cyl auto with option 3. I was offered 17.5 from another dealership but they don't have any cars with option 3. I'm not sure if this was with the 2k cash back or not. Does this seem like the price I should be aiming for?
I am going to pick up a Sonata this Saturday. The original car hasn't yet arrived, so the dealer said he already got one from another nearby dealer. I know the 4cly ltd is kind of in short supply, then I wonder if the car, claimed to be brand new and with 100 miles on it, is a demo car. How can I find out if it is demo? Any ideas? Many thanks.
Stateline's current print ad (shown on their web site) has Sonata GLSes at $15.3k, but that includes the $500 Hyundai loyalty rebate--so figure just over $15.8k before TT&L for non-Hyundai owners.
great. We have the same car (same features, color) except that ours is a V6. We had it for $24100 (after some standard haggling/drama) [after 2K rebates and before TTL]. i love the car.. pretty smooth so far, comfy and handles well.
How can any manufacturer compete with the Sonata at that price. Considering it's a very advanced 4cyl and loaded, I'm just thinking that any other purchase is not researched or thought through. I find the 09 Sonata to be world-class every time I drive it. I have driven the Camry, Accord, Altima and Fusion.
Or is it just me?
We are buying another sedan in a few months so I am just fishing.
Why would it matter someone drove the car for 100 miles ? My new Sonata came with 267 miles they drove it from another dealership. When they move cars in dealer exchanges they drive the cars not put them on car carriers. The dealership has someone drive you car to your dealership and they than drive another car back to the other dealership.
Newowner10, I am more concerned about the demo issue as I was told by another dealer that a demo car intends to have some issue with it so that it is not allowed test drive. Not sure of this is true but I don't want to get stuck with such potential issue.
Hi everyone, is there any way to know a demo from its wearout or smell in the seats, minus scratchs, etc.?
One other question: although I have put down $2000 for the car, can I withdraw the deal if I dislike the car for any reasons or if I do feel it is a demo? There is no signed contract at this moment but a retail order.
Comments
1- On the iPod/USB hookup... can you also use a USB drive to store music on to play through the stereo system?
2- Can you control your iPod (like switch tunes, fast forward, etc.) throught the steering wheel controls?
3- What would I need to do to disable/remove the function that doesn't allow DVDs playing while car is in motion? Would the dealer do this for me?
4- What is the best price others have got on a Sonata LX 4cyl w/ Nav?
thanks!
I don't see any rates on the Sonatas right now so will I have to go through my local bank and miss out on the rebate?
thanks
2. Yes you can control via the steering wheel.
That is not possible. It is illegal to have a video screen that is viewable by the driver to be active while vehicle is in motion.

I understand some of the reasons behind this but just because a dvd is playing in the dash doesn't mean the passengers aren't watching it
