I just put $500 deposit on 05 Odyssey EX in midnight blue. $800 off MSRP (Total $27,710 after destination fee) and a free cargo mat, cargo tray, and all weather floor mats. Live in IL at Scott AFB, but purchased from Voss Honda in Tipp City, OH. I sent lots of internet quotes to dealership around St Louis, MO and to Dayton, OH (parents live in the area). I will pick it up mid-October.

What is the name of the dealership you purchased from?
  • awdmanawdman Member Posts: 7
AWD should be an option, and I think by spending time on this forum, it might become one.

My neighbor just got a 05 Odyssey Touring addition, and he lost control coming out of a turn because he gunned it by accident, and due to torque steer, ran off the road into a ditch.

I drive a Subaru WRX, and let me tell you without AWD, many more people will have accidents when 255 HP goes to the front wheels, especially with drive by wire now puts that HP right there in the front wheels, and torque steer watch out.

So if you love Navigation systems, great, but Navigation Systems doesn't keep you out of ditches, AWD does.

I too am leaning to Sienna, because of pricing and AWD.

So give me AWD or give me death!!!!
  • chacha Member Posts: 16
I test drove a touring model today, and the Honda Salesman, told me to floor it.

What the hell is wrong with these folks!!!!

He's lucky I'm familiar with torque steer, otherwise both of us would of been in the Hospital.

Yea, it handles nice for a Van, but come on, this is no sports car, and with this much power, with NO AWD, you will be seeing some lawsuits soon, trust me, cause they are telling the prospective customers, go ahead, it can handle it.

Guess again, no AWD, torque steer, accident waiting to happen.

For me the Lexus AWD system in the Sienna is the way to go. For 2K more for AWD, I have peace of mind, and I prefer a luxury ride to a harsh ride any day of the week.

got it from Bobby Ford. in addition, Baytown or Mercer Honda is very competitive too. depends on how comfortable you're with the salesman and the availability of the car.

Western Pennsylvania. Many dealers were willing to discuss below MSRP prices.
  • diego456diego456 Member Posts: 4
Just closed in OKC on 05 Touring for $600 under MSRP. Of course, I was not prepared to discuss extended warranty and got hooked for $1450 on 7 yr/100K miles/0 deductible from HondaCare. Looks like this is too much???

Out of curiosity - what dealer is stuck with 70
2004s? I don't live in Chicago but I buy most of my cars there - and I am considering either an 04 now or an 05 or Sienna LE next summer.

I am NOT willing to pay MSRP for any vehicle but my wife loves this Ody. Therefore, based on several posts there are several dealers willing to negotiate anywhere from $250 up to $1500 off MSRP. I live in North Carolina and I am willing to negotiate anywhere on the InterNET. Like everyone I want the best deal and think MSRP is not for me! I understand the economic laws of supply and demand, but realize HONDA wants to sell these vehicles. Can anyone help disclose where these dealers are located via name of Dealership, City, and State for the vehicle in question?
  • trebtreb Member Posts: 5
Sorry, but I am not willing to disclose the dealer. I have no reason to make up the results of my negotiation, and wanted to contribute that info to this forum because of how valuable other posts were to me. Ultimately, however, the price you negotiate is a function of several factors, including how well you negotiate. I don't think you can simply call up the dealer and ask for the same price that TREB reported on the Edmunds forum. I do think everyone should know however that in my region, starting the negotation under MSRP (say 250 or 500) was not that hard. There are probably 20 Honda dealers within 100 miles of me and an equal number of Sienna dealers. "Competitive tension" has always been a key factor in my negotiations. I will also say that we were truly torn between the Sienna and the Odyssey and probably would have been happy either way. To some degree, the fact that my wife and I were debating the virtues of power 2nd row door opening buttons being located on the left of the steering wheel (Odyssey) vs. the overhead console (Sienna) reflected over-analysis that comes with too much detailed information. It certainly was fun picking a vehicle though!

Best quote that I received so far is MSRP for EX-L.
Any body else got better deal than this?
  • heywood1heywood1 Member Posts: 851
I live in western PA, also. Why would you not be willing to name the dealer that gave you $1,500 below MSRP? The rest of us here can only assume your post is bogus.

Quoted $1265 for 72 months/100K miles and $1375 for 84 months/100K miles for the "extended service contract."

    Anyone negotiate these lower?
  • suiosuio Member Posts: 42
What is the best price you have got for an 05 Odyssey in Minnesota? What's dealers name?
  • nnnnnnnn Member Posts: 6
Is this a mechanical break down or wear and tear extended warranty? Check the contract's fine print to determine its type. I have been burned on purchasing a too expensive extended warranty that only covered mechanical break down. Consider obtaining quotes on the internet from other extended warranty vendors.

You can get a 2005 Odyssey at MSRP in Oregon. I know a dealer who is offering this vehicle at MSRP. I recommend you buy this vehicle in Oregon and drive it back to California. If you would like I will be more than willing to give you the dealership name and I recommend getting a quote through the internet. Work with the internet sales manager and not the regular sales people.
  • moomoo Member Posts: 18
You can get MSRP at several dealerships in the Bay Area. Vacaville and Fairfield will definately give you the MSRP price thru their internet sales managers. These two locations are a bit outside the area and not too close to any major airport

Stevens Creek and Sunnyvale will probably give you MSRP as well. We paid MSRP for our 05 EX-L thru Stevens Creek. Both of those are within the South Bay, few minutes ride from SJ airport. I think Southwest has some good deals going to SJ.

Some things I've learned from shopping around for our Ody.
    1. I was thinking of buying @ Vacaville or Fairfield because their county has much lower sales tax. Turns out that they charge you the tax rate of where the vehicle will be addressed to. Sounds fair since our county needs the money, I wouldn't mind saving a few bucks though:-)
    2. Purchasing a vehicle from out of state and then bringing into the state has some complications. CA DMV website has more info.
    3. Check the Costco program if you are a club member. They couldn't get me a price lower than MSRP. From other posts, however, other areas are getting prices lower than MSRP.

Please give me the name of the dealership. Is the smog requirements the same for California & Oregon? Anyone know about the registration requirement??

$1000 under MSRP in DFW for an EX-L RES. First minivan, very nice. Almost like it better than my corvette. Dealer will do same deal. championboatdriver and i have a hot account.
  • SylviaSylvia Member Posts: 1,636
names of dealership, city and state in your post only. Due to the high volume of salespeople trying to direct business to themselves, links to dealership inventory, etc. will be deleted.
  • montreidmontreid Member Posts: 127
You'll probably have to SMOG the car again unless it specifically has California emissions on the sticker.

Also, you'll still have to pay Taxes on the car as a 'new' purchase. There are really specific laws on this for us here in Cali on imports of new vehicles because of our high sales tax.

Just picked up our '05 EX-L RES this past Saturday. Had the dealer add fenderwell trim, splash guards, cargo tray, and fog lights. Paid $31,900 total. Honda's web site priced the four accessories at $602, installation not included, so I'm guessing we paid somewhere around $1100-1500 under MSRP with the accessories installed. Does that sound about right?
  • 3trips3trips Member Posts: 2
We are looking in the DFW area, but haven't found anything below MSRP. Can you post the dealership?

    Thanks,

    Hi ritaboo,

Is your $31900 inclusive of tax, title and registration. (in otherwords onroad)

The accessories you mentioned is also included in your final deal, please let me know.

    Thanks

  • ritabooritaboo Member Posts: 2
That did not include tax, title and registration, but it did include the $515 destination charge and accessories installed.

I did not purchased the $1950 "Honda Care 7yr/100K extended warranty" the dealer offered when we purchased our 04 Ody last month. Does it pay to purchase the extended warranty? I searched the web and "Curry Honda" offers the same extended warranty for only $1325. IS this a good deal? Thanks for advice!
  • rockycow33rockycow33 Member Posts: 76
You should be able to do better than that. Call as many honda dealers as you can and negotiate. I don't know if the prices have gone up but when I was shopping about 4 years ago the best I could get was for $895 7/100/0. You can buy your extended warranty from any dealer in the country and you don't have to buy it at the time of purchase of your vehicle. Tell your current dealer you can get the warranty for 900 from another dealer asking him if he will match it. He has no reason to know who the dealer is.

Just purchased a EX-L RES for $1000.00 under MSRP and the dealer through in free splash guards, cargo tray, and cargo mat. Does this sound like a good deal?

Try Penske Honda in Ontario, CA. They sell at MSRP.

I live in Western Maryland, and I'm wondering if anyone has been quoted better than MSRP for a Touring with DVD/NAV any where in this region.
Also, if a dealer says "We always add this option (wheel locks and mud flaps)" Do I have to pay for it, even if I didn't ask for it? I'm new to the price negotiation area, and I'm unsure of how to go about it. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Anybody bought a '05 odyssey below MSRP in Southern CA?
  • moomoo Member Posts: 18
Is that the HondaCare warranty or an aftermarket warranty? The price sounds like the latter.

After calling several dealerships in the area, I found out that the Honda Care warranty's MSRP is about $2600 and the dealer cost to offer it is about $1850.

One of the dealerships I contacted didn't want to offer the HondaCare. They stated that the 3rd party warranty "gave us more options in controlling warranty repairs". Hmmmmm.

Also. Don't be pressured into buying the warranty at the dealership. When we bought our Ody, we were told that the HondaCare warranty is available at the $1900 level, only at time of sale. We went ahead and purchased it because of this factor and the 60day cancellation policy. After talking with Honda of America, I learned that the HondaCare warranty can be purchased at any time before the original warranty expires.

I live in Baltimore, MD and was wondering if anyone has found a dealership in the greater metropolitan area willing to offer the EXL-RES/NAV or TOURING for less than MSRP? I found a dealer quoting MSRP but the deal changed and I walked. It seems to be a seller's market in this region unlike the price quotes rendered by folks in the Midwest and South
  • 2000kshm2000kshm Member Posts: 8
Just bought a Ody EX @ MSRP. Try the following dealer, Penske Honda @ Ontario, Hardin Honda @ Anehiem, & Honda World @ West Minister, all in the LA area, call for the internet managers.

    It's actually Westminister, CA. :)

Switched dealers because of availability. I have a Touring Nav Silver/Black arriving in Texas 10/23. It will be shipped to CA for no charge (approx cost $500). Paying MSRP.

Question re vin. I have the vin associated with this vehicle. How do I trace it? Infiniti had a system where I could get status of build/ship/arrival.

Does anyone have the vin meaning breakdown?

I checked out Curry Honda online. They offer $1325 for the 7/100K. Plus, if you give them your email address they'll email you a $75 discount code.

I started my research about 2 months ago and here is where we stand. Interested in buying a touring with DVD and of course have to get navi with it. Put down a $500 deposit with a dealership after knowing that they were the highest volume dealership in MA and seeing as it could not hurt me but still kept talking to 2-3 others. I waited for 9/22 to come and go and see how early inventory was. Pickings were slim but as of today it is gettng better everyday. Trying to look at vehicles to get true sense of colors and so far like the midnight blue with gray leather although would like to see ocean blue but no one has it on lot yet. Finding that all dealers are playing hardball so far as they want MSRP but started to see a little chink in the armor yesterday when dealer who has my deposit said that they would throw in $300 worth or accessories at no charge. By pure luck got call from another dealership last night and I told them that they would have to go at least $500 on free accessories and we could talk, he thought that was reasonable and will call me tommorow when he gets back from day off. My wife and I are a little amazed at the arrogance of the dealerships as they try to make you think that they are doing you a favor by selling you a $38-$39,000 vehicle at MSRP and if you do not buy it now you might not get it soon. They are trying to play on the 4 year MSRP of the 1999 oddessy and also they say advertising has not hit but once it does watch out! We are trying to hold firm as we do not need van till first week of November but I do not know if price will come down by then.

IN CONCLUSION: Feel as if I should get out the yellow pages and call all dealers in 20-25 mile radius and start grinding them on accessories and accept the fact that I will have to pay MSRP and also just find the dealer who has color combo we want as they will want to move unit as opposed to having my dealer who has deposit do an allocation swap and make me feel like he is doing me a favor. Still not convinced that the touring with res and navi will be flying out of dealerships but as I said I need one by first week of November. One last thing regarding warranty I have never bought one on any car in the past but plan on owning this van for a minimum of 5 years, any advice? Also have been told that touring with nav and res are delayed anyone have any or have they seen them yet? Thanks

Has anyone else's manufacture/delivery date been bumped back?
We have a deposit on a Sage Brush Pearl EXL that was originally scheduled to be built end of SEP. Dealer now says the build date is middle OCT. I saw the order sheet, so I believe the dealer. Just wanted to know if anyone else had this happen.
  • odyncodync Member Posts: 19
My delivery dates are 9/29-10/6. My dealer says he should have a VIN number today (maybe tomorrow). (I guess it is going to be a little later than the dates, but hopefully not much.)

But this is pretty close to my original dates I was given some time ago. I am getting a black/ivory Touring R&N.

There are a few that are offering them at MSRP with no add ons. There are aslo some that are 1500-3500 over msrp.

Best bet is to do a yahoo or google search. Try "Honda dealers in Baltimore" this should give decent search results.

I think it's Power Honda in Cerritos,CA and another on is Norm Reeves in Huntington beach,CA They are begging for MSRP when I were there last weekend. Good luck. I think of Sienna since I don't like to pay MSRP for anything.

Finally received a quote for less than MSRP for EXL-RES. Emailed several dealers using edmunds and other sitesfor new car quotes. Internet Salesman offered me $500 under MSRP and stated he would only charge the accessories at dealer cost. Encouraging to find someone willing to offer less than MSRP, however I still don't feel that this is the best deal I'll be offered as the inventory increases. This vehicle won't arrive for 2-3 weeks. Guess I should put a deposit on the vehicle and see if anything else develops while I'm waiting.

One other question is the Navigation system worthe the additional cost?
  • hpanhpan Member Posts: 61
"Internet Salesman offered me $500 under MSRP and stated he would only charge the accessories at dealer cost."

Beware of the trick because you never know what their "cost" is. One way the sales dept defines its cost is whatever the parts & service depts charge, which can be retail prices. You should just tell them no accessories if you don't want any.

$500 under MSRP is not a great deal anymore in my area (Northern California). At least half a dozen dealers have called me with MSRP offers (with no accessories), and with little negotiation I have already got one dealer to agree to go under MSRP for the one they already have in stock.
