These people are the lowest of the low. They will tell you anything to get you into their dealership. Once you are there, the prices are higher and delivery dates are pushed back.
I did the deal at 35,950.00 drive out with DVD and Navigation on an 05 EX-L. We were desperate for one, because we have two very long trips coming up, 4 small children and currently, a very old mini van. We left a deposit on Oct. 29 and signed a purchase agreement. The car arrived a week early on Nov. 9, for some reason the dealership could not deliver it as promised. Long story short, they sold our car to someone else. Is this legal? Now we have no new car and can't make our long trip in the old one. I've been told that dealerships are signing purchase agreements to gain inventory and take customers away from competition, then selling to the highest bidder. It is certainly a new low to leave a family with no way home for the holidays. Not to mention the hours of drive time to leave and pick up deposits at a dealership 2 hours away. Heartless!! Shop anywhere but here!
If you enjoy the forum, please share the info.
We are interested in several of the available accessories and will order most of them online, but I bought the splash guards and leather wrapped steering wheel cover from them because they accepted my offer of $1,000 over invoice and made the deal process relatively painless...no games, no gimmicks etc.
Some additional info...the doc fee was $100 and the title fee was $25.50. We also get free carwashes for our van as frequently as we wish for as long as we own it and $9.95 oil changes. We really couldn't have asked for more.
I went in there with serious intentions to buy and made it clear what I wanted. I think they respected that and in turn worked to get me the fair deal I wanted.
It seems a lot of people are relying solely on internet/email negotiating in an attempt to get the best possible deal. I think that's a great way to start, but IMHO when trying to get the best possible price on a high-demand vehicle such as the Odyssey, one must physically step foot in a dealership and establish some kind of rapport. I'm not saying it can't be done entirely online, but I believe it will increase your odds in getting the best possible deal if you combine the two approaches.
on EX $28,510.00. Basically the price is very
competitive w/ the price quoted to me on a Sienna LE w/ BZ pkg. Don't know which way to go or to continue to try to get better quotes.
It is logical to assume that prices will come down a bit after January, since mid-winter (at least in the snowy climates) isn't usually as big a buying season, plus the initial buzz and early adopters are taken care of. But, it's really just a guess, and if demand stays high, prices may stay up too.
Best bet is buy when you need it, and get the best deal you can, and enjoy.

make it unless I put some $ into it. What do you think of the Sienna LE. The best quote I've
rec'd (all through email) has been $27,000 w/ the
BZ pkg. I'm torn between the 2 vehicles; on overload with all I've read and compared. I've read some postings re: Odyssey transmission problems over 48,000 K. I know I won't be driving
my next vehicle as long as my last, but should I expect these kinds of problems in either van before 100k?
Thanks
We are in a better position to wait, since we don't really "need" a new car, so waiting 1-3 months doesn't really matter.

The info I have gathered from this forum has been very helpful. Now I have some research to share. For anyone who is a Costco member, their auto buying program is well worth a look, especially on the 2005 Odyssey. (You have to be at least a Gold member, which I believe costs about $30 a year-for those not familiar with the chain.) They will recommend you to a participating dealer closest to you. (Note - you may have to ask them to widen their search as the web sight showed nothing in my area yet over the phone a Costco rep located a dealership within 13 miles of our home. ) The dealer has to show you their dealer invoice price, which on a Touring with Nav and Res is $34,558. together with a Costco approved markup sheet. They must disclose any incentives but they do not have to disclose or deduct any manufacturer holdbacks which on the loaded touring model is $1,148. The Costco markup over the dealer invoice price on the Odyssey varied by trim line and options-but was anywhere from $1,000 on the EX-L to $1,500 on the Touring with Nav and Res.
So we were just quoted $36,000 (before taxes and title) on an 2005 Ody touring with Nav and Res.
from a dealer in the northern suburbs of NYC-which is $2,800. under the $38,800. MSRP !
Tough to find in stock (especially at this price so you will likely have to order it !
Also for $12.- per vehicle report the Consumer Reports New car pricing guide is worth its weight in gold !
Now go buy your new '05 Ody well informed !
I will disagree with you somewhat about internet sales. I've bought my last 4 cars over the 'net and each time got a better price than I could have gotten in person (and saved tremendous time in the process). Yes, there are times that in-person works great (as you have demonstrated).
However, sending out 10 or 20 emails will generally allow one to find the best price available (or darned close) from the comfort of home.
Did I get screwed, yes. I am mad but no so much about the price.
I am mad that the salesman did not explain the proprietary nature of the PAX system. Oh he explained that they were run flats but not that I would need to return to a certified PAX retailer. We liked the Honda more than the Sienna, so if he would have explained PAX's limitations we might have considered a non-touring model if we could have gotten similar options (leather, DVD & NAV)
I prefer to run snow tires in the winter and from what I've read, I can not!! I should have done more research but I assumed that we could simple replace the tires on the same wheels but after reading a bit further, it doesn't seem to be the case. The concept of PAX is good but if you drive in the snow belt and can't swap on snow tires, thats bad.
Tire Rack does offer a 16" snow tire & steel wheel package ($650) BUT I have not spoken with anyone directly to see if it can be done -- I'll ask the dealer's service dept.
I do plan to return to the dealer on Sunday to inform them that I will not be giving them "5s" on the phone interview. Why?
- suppose to have full tank of gas as listed on the window sticker - only 1/2 tank
- failure to go over the vehicles options in detail
- failure to fully disclose the nature and potential limitations of the PAX system.
They made $5-7k off of our deal. Even though we took delivery of the car when the shop was closing, it was suppose to have a full tank of gas and the sales associate is suppose to do their job -- not say 'call me if you have any questions' -- at a minimum he should have offered go over all of the features in detail the following day or stayed late to ensure we knew how the major functions work. He never even popped the hood to show me where the major fluid checks were located.
Oh, when I asked about the Costco deal, "Yes we participate but the Ody. is not currently part of the program." We have been a Volvo & Audi family for years and had excellent service. Our experience thus far with Honda has been poor.
Dealer: Leesburg Honda
Location: Leesburg, VA
$32,700 Purchase Price
$ 515 Freight
$ 99 Processing Fee
$ 1,665 Titling Tax
$ 23 Titling Fee
$ 195 License Fee
$ 20 Tire Recycling Fee
$ 20 Lien Fee
$35,239 Total OTD
Additionally, the dealer threw in their appearance package which jacks the price up by $1449. Determined this package was worth about $400-$500. It includes wheel locks, splash guards, pinstriping, fender trim and door trim. Not sure if I may have been able to save another $1K somewhere else, but I've tired of the search and this provides everything I wanted except the power liftgate. The NAV has way too many commands to learn, this should be fun. Still negotiating with dealer for fog lights, leather steering wheel cover, and cross bars. Since I've taken possession of the car already, I doubt they'll provide good pricing.
Oh, almost forgot the van drives extremely well and the dealership experience was relatively painless. They did try to sell the undercoating, interior sealant and exterior sealants. Talked to my uncle by cell phone and he stated they were all useless, so I declined. Not sure if this is entirely correct. Any feedback on this subject would be helpful.
After bringing home an 04 Sienna AWD XLE w/Pckg #12 on an overnight last month and later returning it because the internet salesman misquoted me the price several times at $28,300, my daughter is now begging me to keep this van. Told her she'd have to clean up her room before I would decide.
Bridgestone makes 17" Blizzak snow tires for the Sienna, including run-flat version for the AWD model. I just received mine from the Tire Rack after a several-month wait, due to limited production. And there are a whole lot more of these vans (Sienna w/17") out there than there will be Tourings.
I think Honda will be re-thinking PAX as standard equipment on the Touring, perhaps making these tires optional for 2006. I wonder how many more Touring owners there are out there who aren't aware/weren't told of the limitations of PAX, and who won't find out until replacement time. That's when the number of complaints will rise as rapidly as the re-sale values of Tourings will begin to fall.
PAX-laden Tourings already seem to be driving Odyssey buyers to the EX-L, which may explain some of the build-date delays. I predict discounts on Tourings will only get bigger.
I live in a very snowy thus salty area. Anyone done this rust protection? Recommendations?
As far as Costco. We were the Costco store for years. A lot of cars that are in high demand and low supply are excluded from the program.
Hopefully you will enjoy your Odyssey for many years.
Eventhough I asked about replacement tires before delivery and was told they would be covered under the tire warranty, the sales manager said today would require a new "wheel & tire" when these wear out. He proceeded to say "These questions should have been asked prior to taking delivery. There is nothing we can do now." "I answered the question about replacement, you did not ask about other wheels or snow tires."
I have never been so insulted in my life. My saleman did say they were run flats BUT no one even hinted at the fact that I couldn't put on normal wheels and tires. Nor that the PAX system was so proprietary. No one had a straight answer. I couldn't have been the first person to ask this question.
So the old school slimy sales manager (yes they still exist!!) told me that there are not many $40k vans out there and that I should just enjoy it. We've purchased three $40k Volvos in the past 3 years and Leesburg Honda's customer service is horrible and nowhere near the level of any luxury dealership-- but I should have known this. Their scores on the survey will not be high I can assure you.
And I forgot to ask for the Navigation manual that was not in with the other booklets.
It is my fault for not researching this futher. We'll enjoy the van until we get a flat, then hopefully we can flatbed it during the day to someone who is certified to change the tire.
Is there suppose to be a Navigation DVD included?
And you would not have to call a tow truck if you get a flat. They can be driven 125 miles at 55 miles per hour. That is the beauty of these.
I haven't watched the new DVD but I think it's more about the RES system. You should have received a seperate manual.
In these forums you will find a few people who have a dim view of the PAX tires but for many others they are a big selling point. My guess is that other car manufactures will start uning them.
Relax a bit, if you can, and enjoy your new ride!
You are correct that it is not necessary to replace the tire and wheel as a unit. But, I believe stew7710 is a believer in snow tires-- and you can't buy PAX snow tires for the OEM rims. At least not yet. If he want to buy snow tires, he will have to buy conventional rims to accommodate them. And if he wants to buy any other brand but Michelin in-general, he will also need to buy conventional rims.
You are also correct that a tow truck is not necessary. But neither is one required for CONVENTIONAL run-flats, which are much less expensive--not to mention non-proprietary--than the PAX system.
There are a whole lotta Touring owners out there who are going to have a big surprise at replacement time. People don't like to spend $1,000 on new tires--not even rich people. Especially for a minivan....

It is difficult to 'stay on topic' when there are SO MANY threads. I think the Hosts could be a bit more tolerant, not to mention consolidate some of these extremely narrow (and extremely broad) topic lines. For example, 'Odyssey 2005+' covers everything.
I think this discussion IS relevant to prices paid, because the PAX system is expensive, demand for it (or lack thereof) affects new-Odyssey pricing, and the cost of replacement is high.
It is also relevant to buying experience, as it is both interesting and informative to find out how many salespeople disclose to their customers-- or are even knowledgeable about-- this new, expensive, and proprietary system.
But, I'm not a host and I don't make the calls.

We hear the wind noise also in our EX-L.. but im pretty sure its normal.. it sounds to me like it comes not from the windshield but just above it on the roof rails.
As far as the grinding noise, i wonder if you are justnoticing the VCM kicking in. when we ride on the highway, and you are leaning off the gas, the ECO light goes on and the tone of the engine changes just a hair. But you can tell its different.
Anyway hope this helps.
Thanks.
Where did you order your vehicle?
Is the Costco price same for all dealers or do they vary?
Thanks

* $750 off MSRP
* dealers' material & labor "costs" for options (cross bars, splash guards, etc.), which the parties defined to be Honda's MSRPs (which did not include dealer labor components).
* $1,100 for 7 year/100,000 Honda Care with zero deductible
* No junk fees other than $50 in document prep fees and $140 or so in license fees.
Overall, I am not getting ripped off. At the same time, I am not getting the best possible deal. But, I was approaching the point of diminishing return unless, of course, I was willing to wait another 2-3 months.
Any reaction?
This is my first post but I have been reading everone else's for a month or so now. I finally got a deal on a Silver Touring without NAV or RES but it took some work. The out the door price was $32313. The breakdown is as follows: $750 over invoice plus $398 administrative fee plus misc. fees of $22. I live in Jackson, TN and the dealer is Ed Voyles in Atlanta, GA. We wanted a gray interior and he tried to sell me a black one (by mistake he said); luckily I checked the VIN number he sent me on the Honda website and found out the interior was black. He did trade with another dealer to get a gray interior, so we're cool. I was faxed an agreement today and I will be flying on Saturday to pick it up. The next best deal I had was from Jasper Honda in AL for $32900 out the door. Local dealers are still quite unrealistic and just not interested it seems to me in making a sale. They weren't willing to negotiate off MSRP by much at all. I'm looking forward to the new van, our first van and our first Honda vehicle.
This forum has been very helpful for me and I hope my post will be useful.
Good luck to all.
I checked with the "General Internet Manager" (some title!!!) at the dealer in Bedford Ohio.
This is the same guy that was there in 2002, they were dealing then when most dealers weren't, so I gave it a shot.
He said he'd match the $950 over invoice that that Bradford Brothers dealer was giving, except on the R&N models. I'll let you know, I'm stopping by tomorrow.
i'm from vancouver, canada, and i just purchased a 05 honda odyssey last month @ MSRP, but the thing is, i have not yet gotten the vehicle from them depite the fact that i paid my $1000 depoosit.
they keep on telling me that the odyssey that i've specified has not yet arrived (which is only an EX-L and apparently they only have the ones w/ the DVD pkg).
i'm wondering if they're trying to process this deal till the price of an odyssey drops so that they can make more money since i've already agreed to pay the current msrp.
anyways, dunno if anyone has seen an 05 odyssey around vancouver yet but plz help me out! thanks a bunch.

My first reactions - is the deposit refundable? From what I gather $1000 off MSRP is the first offer from many dealers in the area.
Honda Care can be purchased from any dealer at any time before the end the factory warranty and there are better deals (~$900) than what you are being offered.
Since the dealer is making quite a profit already ask them to drop all the other fees including the doc fee and the license fees.
Good luck!
Racerx2, do you have the costco price sheet with you? Can youshare it with us?
Thanks

I'm also looking for a deal in NC. I've already contacted a few dealers and the lowest I've gotten is $600 off MSRP (from Crown Honda).
If anyone else has good buying experiences in NC please share them!
Also, you might want to check out Boyd Honda at Oxford. They quoted $27,200 for an EX cloth. I also find dealers around Charlotte to be more competitive on the price. I have quotes from $1500 to $500 under MSRP. I have not contacted the Christianburg dealer in Virginia yet. Just don't know if anyone has a positive experience with them.
Thanks.
