From what I've seen on the forum I should be able to get an extended warranty for around $1200.
1) I plan on keeping the car for a long time. Based on peoples previous odyssey experience is the warranty worth getting. Will I incur $1200 worth of repairs in four years (7 year extended - 3 yr factory).
2) Is there an "official" Honda extended warranty? Can it be used anywhere or just dealers?
3) Anyone with experience on other aftermarket warranties.

NO. You should not pay more than $1,075 for HondaCare 7yr/100,000 miles. If you drive no more than 10,000 miles a year, consider 7 yr/75,000 miles for $775.
There are at least two dealers that can sell you the HondaCare at the above price, if your dealer refuses. You DO NOT need to buy the warranty from your dealer and/or at the time of the van purchase. One dealer that has this price is Pohanka Honda in Salisbury, Maryland. You can just contact the finance manager there.

That's the "HondaCare". You have to use dealerships unless the nearest one is too far from you; you'd have to get prior authorization from the warranty administrator.

I just bought an 05 odyssey EX 2 days ago. The VSA light comes on quite often and stays on, even while parking. It doesn't blink as the manual stays, but has "VSA" and "!" in yellow with no blinking. The only way to get it off is to turn the ignition off and restart the car. I always have the VSA button to default, i.e, "On". Please help with any feedback. Thanks so much in advance
There is no "default" position for the VSA button. If you pust it after you turn the ignition on, you turn the VSA off. You have to push it again to turn it On. Just don't touch it, if you want VSA to stay on!
If you haven't been touching the button, then there's something wrong with the system and you need to take it to the dealer.

I couldn't find a silver EXL with Navi in the metro NYC area so I tried dealers in Syracuse NY where I visited over the holidays. Picked up the ODY at Lamacchia Honda in Syracuse for 32,997 (including delivery). Added a 7yr/100k $0 deductible for 1100. Purchase process was clean by email, phone and FAX with no surprises. Vehicle is great and I recommend the dealer.

Question: Many (including myself) have recently reported buying Odysseys and Pilots at or under invoice. This has apparently been the result of dealers trying to meet monthly or yearly sales goals to qualify for a bonus (supposedly $500 per unit) from Honda for the period ending tomorrow, 1/3.
Is this correct? Can you provide any further particulars?

Thank you so much for the info. I took advantage of the AHFC on-line preapproval process and have a certificate w/ reference # and a pre-filled application form. On the certicate it says "Expiration date: 1/23/2005". What does this mean?

Yes there was a $500 dollar allowance back to dealers for every car sold retro to the first unit IF and only IF they met they're monthly objective for December. If the dealers were hurting, I can forsee this situation, however, we haven't had this issue because if you think about it, the gross profit that can/is being held on Odyssey's forgoes the 500 dollars by far if you're selling that many....=)
I have received a price of $31,664 for EX-L with RES/NAV from internet salesman at Torrington (CT) Honda. This includes the $515 destination charge but not CT taxes or reg. They also have thrown in extended warranty to 5/50,000 for free. Is this a good deal or can I do better? Willing to drive for a deal.
Is it for the 2005 model? If it is this is one of the best offers I have heard for the EX-L R+N. I would go for it as it hard to beat this deal especially considering the free ext warranty you are getting.
$701 over invoice for the hard-to-find EX-L w/RES/NAV sounds pretty good. Plus free extended warranty? What's the deductible?
Sounds like an end-of-year promotion special.. does this offer expire today? Unless you know of a lot of other EX-L's with NAV available in the area, you may want to jump on it (before someone else does and you're stuck waiting for the next allocation).

$1,075 is a very low price for the complete peace of mind for the first 7 years 100,000 miles. This is the FIRST time ever that I've bought an extended warranty, but I feel it's worth it on this vehicle, especially if you get a NAV/RES version. There's just too much new technology and power stuff that something is bound to go wrong.
Plus I feel that Honda/Acura cars are not what they used to be a decade ago. I've owned 6 Honda Accords and Acura TLs over the last 10 years and I've seen a clear decline in quality. Not dramatic, but noticeable.
Still, I didn't buy an extended warranty on my 2004 Acura TL, but I did on our 2005 Odyssey. One reason is that it really is quite cheap on the Ody.
The one I bought was a dealer swap. It had 263 miles on it. I called all over and got lucky when I contacted Dover Auto World. The internet salesperson told me that price was for that particular van only. I was a little skeptical, because it was the only place that I called that quoted me invoice price. I put a deposit on it with the stipulation that I could back out upon inspection of the van. Everything was fine, so I'm still not sure why I got such a good deal. It was the end of the month and the vehicle build date was October so I'm not sure how long it sat on their lot. When I picked up the van, the saleswoman told me that after she had sold it to me, they have quite a few inquires about it.
The second best price I got for this van was $31564 from Autofair. I did a check recently and they have gone up a little on that model. I think their current price was 31889.00. You might be able to use their prices for leverage against some of your local dealers. I did have a couple of dealers in CT quote better prices to me after they went to the Autofair website. The pricing is available right on line. Good Luck. It is a great van.
It seems that EX-L is in higher demand than regular EX. Has anyone had any experience with aftermarket leather seats? I am thinking to get an EX and get the leather seats afterwards. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Well, I picked up the new Pilot tonight with half a notion to also buy an Odyssey. Unfortunately, they had already hit their sales goal for the month. Not that it mattered, their Odyssey inventory was down to, I believe, only two EX cloth units. They had sold both of the Touring models I had my eye on.
Bought an 05 ex-l with res (slate green) for 30,800 with 6yr/75,00 mile HondaCare waranty for an additional $995. I felt it was a fair deal considering there were very few to find in the northside of Chicago. Called 5 dealers, very few even had the vehicle, or quoted me a price less than the above. I also took advantage of the 2.9% financing.
I am happy for you that you could get an 05 EX cloth Odyssey for $24,500. I still can't believe that an 05 Ody can be had for $1000 below INVOICE!!
Do you think Hugh White took a loss on the sale? What was their motivation to sell at such a price? I am still happy for you that you could get such a good deal. Enjoy the vehicle!!

I benefited in 2000 from a posting similar to yours in this forum from inky, and bought my Ody for $316 over invoice from Mark Roberts Honda at Bartlesville, OK.
May be your purchase price is a sign of things to come. I won't be surprised if another Honda dealer elsewhere in the country decides to offer similar prices.
Isn't the Ody selling like hot cakes anymore? Or has the competition caught up?
Hello I been reading here few the couple weeks and find the information very useful. I been looking for the last month to buy 05 EXL res/nav and not finding many to choose from much less any deals.
I do have a couple offers to sell at 33,600 + ttl and doc but will have to wait for color I want 3 weeks. Does this sound like a good deal or should I wait a couple months to see if the ODY EXL res/nav frenzy and well above invoice atmosphere calms down ?
I can afford to wait. Also anyone have any insight into future incentives by Honda ?

I have attempted to follow price quotes in this forum on extended warranty but they appear to range in price based on DVD/nav vs. vehicles without. I am most interested in the 7/100 but also considering 6/100.
Issue two:
Interest rate 3.9%. This will probably be a deal killer. Apparently, I do not qualify for the 2.9% APR for some reason not readily apparent (Have outstanding FICO). Supposed to speak with Honda Finance tomorrow to determine the issue.
I was attempting to negotiate an extended warranty of $1,075 but its not apparent to me if this is possible or reasonable so I ask for any help possible. The interest rate will either be fixed and we have a deal or it will not and the deal is dead. The extended warranty price I have not decided yet.
Overall the deal currently offered is $1,247.20 (or $20.79 per month 60 months) higher than I intended.
It doesn't seem that dealers in the St Louis area are discounting as much as in some areas, so I'm fairly satisfied with the deal I got today at Huey's in St Louis...
'05 Touring (no NAV) w/ a few dealer added things (pinstripes, cargo tray, wheel locks, 3rd row sunshades, splash guards) for $33821 + 79 doc fee. I also got the 2.9% 60 month zero down financing. It may not be the best deal, but it seemed fair.
Actually, your $1,075 is only buying peace of mind for the time period between the expiration of the original factory warranty and the 7yr/100K extension. If you buy this warranty when the vehicle is new, you're paying interest on the $1,075 during the time the original factory warranty is in effect. I think it's a better deal to hold onto your money and buy the extended warranty just before the window to do so closes-- and after you're sure you like the vehicle and plan to keep it for the long haul.
I believe I got a pretty good deal today. We worked out a lease on a 2005 EX-L List of $30,810. The term is 36 months, 15,000 miles per year and $368 per month including tax. The dealer claims he is capping the car at $27,000. Can any of you mathmeticians tell me if this looks like a good deal on a EX-L? The dealership said they were real aggressive because of the year end.
I placed an order for a Touring w/ NAV/RES about 6 weeks ago with a suburban dealer near Chicago. In the process, I put down $1,000 as a refundable deposit. The car is supposed to be delivered in about a week.
Has the market for the Touring w/ NAV/RES softened since my order was placed in November? If so, do I have any bargaining power?
I got it under the MSRP although it was not a great deal. If I were the one driving it, I would have waited a year before buying it. But, when your wife says .... well.
Forget about the extended warranty for now. Shop around - you can buy one later if you wish, whether from the selling dealer or another Honda store.
Who else will loan you the money for less than 3.9%? If it's the best you can do, it's the best you can do. It's not likely interest rates will go down this year.

I am responsible for arranging the shipping, but the dealer has given me the name of a shipper. (I was told by another dealer that shipping should be around $300.) Movecars.com has a list of tips.

On December 23rd my wife and I went to the Honda dealer in Myrtle Beach, SC. (East Coast Honda) We purchased an Odyssey. (2005 Touring)
The Business Manager told me that the 2.9% financing was based on purchasing the extended warranty and that if I did not want the extended warranty then the finance charge would go up. She even did some math for us that illustrated that it was a "better deal" to get the warranty and the 2.9% financing.
I confronted her on this and said I thought that it was illegal to offer it that way. She assured me that it was not. So we got the warranty.
After I have thought about this some more I really think that it is.
I was always under the impression that tying interest rates to purchasing additional products was illegal - or at least not allowed by the manufacturer. Your best bet is to contact Honda corporate directly or the SC Consumers Affairs office:

Good questions. I am talking to a dealer in another state about a 7/75K for $745. She asked me first if my new Ody had more than 24,000 on it, so that does seem to be a magic number. I tried an online dealer who let you input variables to see the price of HondaCare and when my van went from 20 miles to 300 miles the price of the HondaCare went up about $80! So I, too, wonder how much a warranty will cost at the almost 3-year mark. And I though HC was transferrable at least once.
I can tell you know who I am talking to (I read of this dealer on this board). Pohanka Honda in Md. on Salisbury (I live in Denver). They quoted me for our Ex-L with RES/NAVI $795 for a 7/75K $0 deductible and $1,100 for 7/100K. They are supposed to be e-mailing me details.
The online Honda place was, if I remember correctly, Curry Honda somewhere back east. But though I used their Web site to check prices, no one there ever called me back when I left a message.
The dealer I bought the Ody from in Colorado did not carry HondaCare. They had a third-party warranty which, I assume, gave them a higher prodit margin. I turned it down.

In NJ - I was quoted 25028 [ including destination ] for an EX [ cloth ]. I went to the dealer and this

The Business Manager told me that the 2.9% financing was based on purchasing the extended warranty and that if I did not want the extended warranty then the finance charge would go up. She even did some math for us that illustrated that it was a "better deal" to get the warranty and the 2.9% financing.
I confronted her on this and said I thought that it was illegal to offer it that way. She assured me that it was not. So we got the warranty.
After I have thought about this some more I really think that it is.

Good questions. I am talking to a dealer in another state about a 7/75K for $745. She asked me first if my new Ody had more than 24,000 on it, so that does seem to be a magic number. I tried an online dealer who let you input variables to see the price of HondaCare and when my van went from 20 miles to 300 miles the price of the HondaCare went up about $80! So I, too, wonder how much a warranty will cost at the almost 3-year mark. And I though HC was transferrable at least once.

The online Honda place was, if I remember correctly, Curry Honda somewhere back east. But though I used their Web site to check prices, no one there ever called me back when I left a message.
The dealer I bought the Ody from in Colorado did not carry HondaCare. They had a third-party warranty which, I assume, gave them a higher prodit margin. I turned it down.

PRICE was TRUE. I have a 1999 Odyssy EX and wanted to
trade - and they low balled me with a rediculous price and I decided not to trade and buy a new one. I will sell it myself and then get a new one. The
Odysseys are not flying off the lots and 3 dealers
I checked had more than 8 EX's on their lot - so I expect below invoice prices in the future. They were willing to sell me an EX for the above price even without a trade.
