We've been quoted $1000 below msrp for an EXL w/leather. Is that good? Should we keep looking? I've read so much about negotiating up from invoice. This was offered on the phone - we haven't even been to the dealership yet. Any info/advice on other dealers in eastern mass would be greatly appreciated!!
1. I basically requested the quote over the internet, and they responded with a quote about $1500 over the invoice.
2. I then called them said that my friend just bought one for $250 over the inovice 2 weeks ago and ask them if they can do better. They responded that they would like me to come in and they will give me a best deal.
3. I came in to the dealer and basically said that I am already narrowed down to either Toyota Sienna or Honda Odyssey EXL and the only matter to me is the price.
4. I also asked them if they have the "S" program for corporate employee. They do not participate in this program but basically the program give employee to buy the car at invoice cost. If they do not participate in this program, you can mention any big company in your area. Since they know that you are aware of this program, they will try to sell the car close to invoice cost.
5. This was exactly happen to me, because once they said they don't participate in this program, but they can offer me the car for $27,500 which is $50 under invoice if I pick the van that they have in their stock. So no counter offer on my part. Since I already research this forum, I have a very good idea what price is a good deal.
6. I accepted the deal and close the deal.
7. After the deal close, they offered me the warranty for 6yrs/72K for $894 but I said this is too much money, so they said that they have a coupon that they can give me and dropped the price down to $694. Unfortunately, I didn't take it because I wasn't prepare so didn't know that was a good deal or not.
8. When I went pickup the van, the manager came out congratulated me and offered to install the splash guard for free, which I took.
9. Last, here are some other tips. I went to the dealer around 7pm so they only have about 2 hours to close the deal, so less hassel go back and forth and they anxious to go home and close the deal.
Sorry for the long story but hope it helps!
Now I'm looking to install after market DVD system w/ TV tunner. If anyone has any recommendation, please let me know. Thanks!
Can anyone tell us more about this "S" program for corporate employees? I work for a very large corporation, but have not heard of any local Honda dealerships offering our employees a discount.
I also just learned about this recently when I looked to buy a new car. For some large company, they negotiated with "certain" dealers that when their employee come in to buy the car, the dealer gives special pricing which is usually lower than general population. And most time, it is invoice or +/- few hundred dollars from the invoice cost. It typically a win-win situation because the dealers get more customer, the employee get good price, and the company gets additional benefits at no cost which attract good employees.
Again, all dealers are aware of this program, except they typically don't tell the customers unless they asked. Also, I didn't say Honda is participating in this program but if you asked, they would know that you would be able to get good price at other dealers then they opt to give you a good price to keep you at their dealers.
I do know for the fact that Mazda is participating in this program, but don't think Toyota nor Honda is participating in this. I just asked them with the hope that they would give me a good deal and it worked.
Some dealers might offer this under another name but basically a corporate referred program. You might be able to check with your HR/marketing department or personnel department if they have something like this.
By the way, I forgot to mentioned from the last post that I end up with the van and the color (Silver Pearl w/ grey leather) that I wanted and the van was only 5 miles when I picked up.
dominator, I'm afraid you're misinformed on the issue of auto discount programs. There's no one "S program", there's no such generic term. Various manufacturers offer discounts to their employees and sometimes employees of other companies with wich the manufacturer has a close relationship.
For example, Ford (which includes Volvo and Mazda) has these programs called the S plan and the X plan. One is for Ford employees (the "X" I think) and the other for employees of partner companies.
Nissan has such plan that is called VPP. GM calls thier plan "GM Supplier Discount". Daimler Chrysler calls theirs the DC Rewards.
The plans are all completelly different and are administred differently. But as far as I know these are MANUFACTURER discount plans and never DEALER plans like you implied. It's true that not all dealers will participate, but those that do have no say about the pricing or other important details.
I can tell you that the Mazda and Nissan programs are pretty descent, allowing you to buy a car at about invoice plus or minus 1%. The Volvo program is totally useless, in my opinion, as is Ford one.
Having said all that, I have never heard of Honda offering discounts to any external suppliers. That doesn't mean that they don't do it, just that I haven't heard about this program and what it entails.
OK, sorry if I misinformed. As I said, I just heard about this a week ago. However, my company has nothing to do with car manufacturer but when I asked them about "S" programs, some said they do and some don't. When I mentioned it to Honda dealer, they said they do not participating in it but gave me an offer at $50 under invoice right away. I didn't even have to negotiate anything.
Again, sorry if I confused anyone about the discount program.
Got a quote on a 2005 EXL Odyssey from Willis honda in Burlington, NJ for 30547. MSRP including destination was 32635. Can I do better anywhere in the Philadelphia area. Any help appreciated.
I am shopping for an Odyssey EX in Indianapolis area. The dealer offered $26,300(including destination fee) before tax. Since the invoice price is about $25,527 and MSRP $28,510, is this a reasonable deal? Thanks.
Thanks to this forum I was able to get my EX-L Silver for 28,500 (plus tax and lic).
After seeing that many people got their EX-L for around 28,500 (though none in SoCal), I decided to set that as my target price.
I requested quotes from 12 dealers within 40 miles of my house. Their initial email was always 30,310 (500 under MSRP), but I would email them and tell them my target price was 28,500; and that I would buy it from whoever got closest.
Every time I got a lower quote, I would tell that quote to the next dealer and he would either beat it or say it couldn't be done.
By the afternoon, I got 3 dealers who were willing to match the price.
day Maine Mall Motors of S. Portland delivered the
vehicle, no issues. Paid roughly $600 over invoice, including delivery to MA. A bit of extra work in contacting insurance, getting a form stamped before going to RMV. Also Maine requires you to sign a sales tax exempt form with buyers SSNo in it. Tax is collected by RMV in Mass, not the dealer.
Yeah, that's a good deal dongliu. Do you know what your doc. and dealer fees will be? Some dealers charge real high fees ($400-$500).I'd offer him $100 for dealer fee and tell him to turn the thermostat down.
Included pricing for Pilot not Odyssey as I intented. 2005 EXL Odyssey MSRP was 30810 including destination and quote was 28687. Is that a good offer and if not any suggestions for the Philadelphia area. Thanks.
How do I email you? When I click on px260, the email address is "private" If you post your email address, I'll email you the exact info. He's got 3 more EX-Ls in the lot and said he is willing to deal. I was in and out in less than 1:30; Never had a better car buying experience.
I don't want to just post the dealer's name b/c you have to go through this guy and we are not allowed to post the name of the salesperson.
Hi twin arrow,
Can you please e-mail me the dealer's name in So Cal? I live in OC. Thank you.
I was wondering who bought one of the 3 EX-L they had on their website as in stock. I can't understand why people don't jet in from all over the country and and bite these guys' hands off - they are the cheapest ADVERTISED on the whole East Coast.
They are the the only guys I see on the web who actual POST discounted prices rather than dance around the customer. Am I correct in thinking their doc fee was $149.
I am thinking of buying later this quarter from Berlin City - I am out of state. If I understood your post, they do not charge tax but give you 30 day tags. Humour me, but what does SSNo stand for?
Well done with your purchase. Give us an update about driving experience, what you like/dislike.
Yes, good guess, it is silver! Doc fee was $119. SSNo was short for social security number. I did not get the 30 day tag, since I could get MA plates the same day it was delivered.
So far, the experience has been mostly positive, especially on snow. We got over 3 feet of it in Boston after I got the vehicle. VSA is very subtle when going on snow, no abrupt corrections.
Mileage is a disappointment, average is around 15mpg despite gentle driving. Very stable and quiet on hwy, even when running on (ECO) 3 cylinders. Need a bit more time with it before I can write a objective review.
Also, check out AutoFair Honda in Manchester NH. They're on the Web and they advertise their discounted prices there. I recently bought an LX for $1 over invoice. No tricks, no haggling. I believe that they sell the other trim levels at a standard $900 over invoice.
"Factory Invoice is what the factory/manufacturer charge is and normally is the window sticker."
?????
I can't recall ever seeing factory INVOICE on the window sticker. I always just see the MSRP. MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price) is NOT the factory invoice.
Does anyone have any recent price quotes for EXL with Res and Nav in the NCAL Bay Area? I've been told that current inventory is low as Honda misgauged how popular Res + Nav are in this area, and that Honda is ramping up production volume. Am wondering what is the going sales price at this time. Thanks!
When I bought my Honda the sticker with MSRP was in the glovebox. The dealer had put their own sticker on the window with a higher $ for MSRP and all sorts of dealer add-ons (which we said - no thanks) and pulled the window-sticker-now-in-glovebox out and told him that we wanted the van BEFORE they put all sorts of extras on it. Needless to say, we ended up getting another van off the truck before they could add the 'extras' on, knew the invoice (from Edmunds.com), real MSRP and TMV for our region (from Edmunds.com).
What? You didn't want the VIN etching/paint sealant/Scotchgard/pinstripe/rustproofing VALUE PAK? Who do you think you are-- an educated consumer? I'm surprised they left the real sticker in the car at all. Must be a law that requires it...
SoCal'ers... In late December, the best quotes that I received came from Robertson (NoHo), Miller in the Valley, and Goudy in Alhambra. Goudy is #2 behind Norm Reeves in sales volume in Cal (and 4th largest Honda dealer in the country so they have large allocations). The OC Dealers weren't dealing. It's month end so you may want to hit the dealers that are owned by publicly traded companies (Carson and Buena Park - Sonic), the Miller dealers - Group 1, and the Power dealers - Valencia and (maybe) Costa Mesa. Spreen in Loma Linda was pretty aggressive too. As long as you are not looking for Res/Nav, you should be able to score a vehicle at a reasonable discount. Good Luck!!
Took delivery of an EXL RES today (sale price of $29,487 [500+ invoice), Desert Rock).
DO check the DVD player (thanks to all posters who recommended doing so). As it happens, our 9-inch screen is dead. Svc dept will take a closer look Tuesday. I suppose that'll serve as an opportunity for any further remedial issues that might present.
Another lesson learned and point of thanks to posters here: DO NOT PAY MORE THAN $1069.00 FOR AN EXTENDED (7 year/100k/0 down HondaCare) WARRANTY!!! Let me say it again: DO NOT pay more than $1069.00 for the extended 7 year/100k warranty.
The dealership has taken enough of your money by the time you're ready to talk warranty. Many thanks to those of you who mentioned POHANKA HONDA of Maryland as one excellent provider of REASONABLE warranties. I'm pleased to now add "SAM SWOPE HONDA WORLD" of Louisville, Kentucky to that list of reasonable warranty providers.
When my dealership at first offered $1290.00 for a 7yr/100k/0 down HondaCare Warranty, I gave a neighboring dealership, "Neil Huffman" Honda of Clarksville, IN, the opportunity to beat the offer. Some unduly self-assured sales manager at Huffman nearly laughed me off the phone. Maybe I'll call him back soon to have a laugh of my own. Then again, maybe not...I think I've done enough with this post.
Good luck to all of you! I suppose I'll find my way to the Odyssey Owners' forum now!
I hesitate to even ask this, but in a prior post you state you paid less than $1,000 for your extended warranty. Multiple posts here seem to verify that dealer cost (of the HondaCare 7/100K/zero) is around $1,050. So are you saying that a dealer from whom you didn't buy the van sold you this warranty at a LOSS? Or was the coverage different?
We picked up our EX-L for $27,000 plus tax plus $89 Doc fee + reg which everyone pays. $3810 off sticker I think is a record. Joyce Honda in Denville NJ made that deal after I went back and forth between them and two other dealers.
odyseuss1, I have also bought at Sam Swope Honda World(though not the Ody)and thought the overall experience very good.We asked for their best price and they gave it to us...no games.(of course they were really wanting to get rid of their 04' stock of Odys)
In reguards to "Neil Huffman" Honda...there advertised special in yesterdays paper had the Ody EX and EX-L at $4500 off...though probably included around $2,000 in worthless add ons.
There was some dickering at Sam Swope in my case but it wouldn't have been any fun without it; I think they made a reasonable profit off of me and that I, in turn, struck a decent bargain. Glad you also had an overall good experience there. Hopefully, they'll speedily remedy our DVD player for us Tuesday...that's my sole concern/objection to the experience.
Not sure what you mean by your DVD screen is dead but hopefully it is the same thing that happened to us, i.e. they just forgot to add a fuse before pick up. They added the fuse and since then we are fine.
Purchased 2005 Odyssey EXL last Thursday at Willis Honda in Burlington, NJ. MSRP was 30810 including destination. Paid 27687 with destination charges (about 150 over invoice). Seemed like a good price. Got worked over on the extended warranty though. Finance guy told us once we leave the showroom we can no longer get new car rate. He said used car rate was 200-400 more expensive. So took the 7yr/100k and paid 1450. Have 200 miles on the car and no problems. Driving to Florida next week after the EAGLES win the superbowl and expect to give the car a good work out. NJHONDA
Thanks...I called the service technician's attention to the fusebox after reading so many similar ('check the DVD player') posts. He checked the fusebox for bad fuses but he and I both failed to recognize that a fuse actually needs to be "added." That could expedite things upon our return to the dealership. Thanks.

$28,500 is about the top you should pay. I've been quoted as low as 27,900. Inventory is the only problem.

IS IT ALWAYS THE NOISY WHERE YOU LIVE OR ARE YOU AWARE YOUR CAPS LOCK BUTTON IS PUSHED?
man, all this shouting makes me thirsty.....
btw - it's perfectly fine (encouraged even) to post which dealership you got your deal at. Just don't post the names of individuals.....
Dealer Invoice - is the numbers from the Factory Invoice + any dealer add-ons (pinstriping, paint protection package, mark-ups, etc.)
?????
I can't recall ever seeing factory INVOICE on the window sticker. I always just see the MSRP. MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price) is NOT the factory invoice.
Also those dealer add ons are 98% profit - don't feel bad about negotiating like they are not even on the car.
