hey zippy786, did you atleast get a couple of free oil changes, a couple of free key chains, a touch up paint pen, and a small gift from the salesman (bottle of wine)?
I live in socal and purchased yesterday a new 07 camry xle with nav, smart key, heated seats, and satellite radio with 9 months free service. THe MSRP was $30,729. I purchased for $28,200 before TTL. OTD price was $30,831. I think I got a pretty good deal. Purchased from Longo Toyota.
hey drjames, I had inquired about the free oil changes, didn't get them. I got a couple of free key chains and a couple of mugs, they can be charged in the car to keep the coffee warm (dunno how it works exactly haven't used it yet). No pen and no gift from the salesman
I bought the Camry Hybird last week (leather seats, moonroof, NAV system, heated seats and mirrors, and mats) for a drive out price (including EVERYTHING) of $31.2. The bsticker on this particular car was supposedly $23,580 (no options, no delivery, processing, handling, no tax, title, etc) but I actually wouldn't focus so much on the sticker price. My suggestion is to calculate your maximum "out the door" price yourself and challenge the dealers to meet/beat it. Thanks and good luck!
Damn you zippy786!!! :P I want those heated mugs!! lol. Honestly, the cost of the two free oil changes are probably close to the cost of the heated mugs.
Guys, I am a first time car buyer. I purchased a 2007 Camry SE V4 (auto) with Color-Key Rear Spoiler, Moonroof package, and Preferred Accessory Pacakge for $21,500 before tax and license. I walked out the door, paying $23,534.21.
How did I do? According to KBB price with option, I paid about $200 over invoice price. Is this accurate?
Oh yeah, I live in CA, this price includes the destination charge.
I feel like I got a good deal but please give feedback.
LOL!! No worries pal, you're still ahead by a key chain, a paint touch up pen, and a bottle of wine or does all that come to the amount I saved I think overall we got the same walkout price of $34,500? agree?
Another question if I may. Is the invoice price in Edmunds or KBB reliable source? That's what we are basing our decision on, right?
Also, I hear that it's possible to purchase a car under invoice price, if the car is not selling well. Where can I find out if some car is not selling well and I have more leverage against the dealer.
The invoice price I would look at is the dealer's invoice. There's a 2% holdback which they hold already factored in (comes to roughly $500-600 depending on the price of our car.
From all the research I had done back when I was in Texas, the local dealers were all making $750 over invoice. I was directed to www.fitzmall.com. This place sells cars $300-$400 over invoice. This was the cheapest I could find. See if you see the type of car you own on their website or even give them a call and explain the type of car and ask for their best price. They will give it to you over the phone and you'll know.
I did the same above for my car just now (att. dr.james) and the other dealer was willing to offer the same price to me and but not lower, so I learned that I had a fair deal. Best of luck and let us know!
I would be very happy with the deal. According to Edmunds you are about 200-300 over invoice but edmunds does not include the advertising fee. I would guess you got it for just about invoice. If this was your first car you got a great deal.
Yes it is possible to purchase a car under invoice but not likely with this model. I would be very happy if I could get a car for invoice and don't think I would be doing much to try and get it lower. My own personal belief is if a dealer treats me fairly, with respect, I am willing to leave a couple of hundred on the table, but not the $1000 or more that is usually required when you don't want to negotiate. My time and well being is worth that. If a dealer tries the "typical" dealer dance then it is game on, I will either walk or beat them down to nothing.
I am curious did you get this price at a traditional dealer or did you do the internet thing to check prices and then go to the lowest one??
I pulled out the invoice price from KBB. While looking for a car in one dealer, called another dealer and got an offer for $21,900. Then, took it down to $21,500 at the dealer I was at. It took me about 30 minutes of negotiation.
The salesperson was very rude until I showed them the money. I actually enjoyed observing the salesman trying to play mindgame with me. Seems like they always try to push you until you try to walk out the door.
Out of curiosity does fitzmall.com actually deliver a vehicle out of state? If so do you know the approximate cost?
I'm also wondering if anyone has used their prices to negotiate with a local dealer. I have a relative stationed up in MD. If I can't find a local dealer willing to at least match their price, I may have to plan a visit and pick up a car
I think they do for maybe another $500 not exactly sure though. If you have a relative in Virginia, they only pay a 3% tax, again not sure how you'd be able to take advantage of this.
Start by calling and tell them you're willing to give them $400 or whatever over invoice and see what they can do for you. Best of Luck!
Appreciate the reply. I just spoke with my relative and I think a trip up there would kill a couple of birds with one stone. A new car and a family visit .
I looked on their website and it looks like they have a couple of cars I'm looking for. I'm looking for the XLE with navigation (on the toyota website it's the option C package). The MSRP is $31K and some change. The invoice according to edmunds is $27,600. The two cars on fitzmall.com have about $500 worth of extra stuff I don't want. According to their website they are listing the car at $300 over invoice. That's pretty good. I'm not sure I want the extra $500 worth of stuff. I wonder if they can order one directly from the factory with the stuff I want and still give it to me for $300 over invoice?
I think they should be able to do it for you. I remember I had called and the salesman had said that they continue to get more in stock. Doesn't hurt to ask, if not you can try and negotiate on the package by telling them that you don't want it but are willing to pay xxx for it...
Last week, I signed a contract to buy a TCH. Part of the deal was a trade-in of my old car.
I tried to sell the car on my own but given the town I am in it was doubtful. After six week of advertising and no calls, I decided to do a trade in.
Because it is a TCH I basically paid full list and I am getting wholesale on my trade in.
The contract says I am receiving a $5,000 credit for the trade-in. I now have the chance to sell the car on my own (someone saw my advertisement from last week) and has offered me $6,000 for the car.
Any problems with me selling the car on my own and just paying the dealer the amount called for in the contact without the trade in: e.g., hypothetically the contract price was for$27,000, trade in was $5,000, so I owed another $22,000. So if I sell the car, I would just pay the dealer $27,000.
Any problems with this? Any suggestions comments appreciated.
I can't imagine why they would mind you selling your car. The "new" price should simply be close to MSRP since it's a TCH. Had this not been a TCH and been a car that they would have normally discounted you would have to get a new price from them because they would go into some story about how the tradein price is an accounting thing and that some of their profit was built into that, etc... Also you would have been left wondering just how big of a discount they would have given.
Typically on any car deal I want them to show me the discounted selling price (cash price) and then show me the trade. Yes the trade price will look smaller in most cases but it reflect the true value of your car since the cash price represents the real purchase price.
Remember too that taxes in many states plays a part of this decision. In WV we only pay taxes on the difference. I traded my 2003 Infiniti FX pretty much even up for my TCH so I owed no state taxes on the deal. Had I traded a car like yours for $5000 against a $30,000 car my taxes would have been $1250 on the trade (5% of the difference). Thus if I want to sell my car I need to get at least the $5000 + another $250 to cover what I have to pay extra in taxes because I would now be paying the full $30,000. On cheaper cars it's no big deal. On my Infiniti I would have had to sell it for $1500 more than they offered to break even.
I got the best of both worlds on my trade. I got Edmunds full "private party" value (significantly higher than the "fair" trade in value most dealers offer) against a purchase price of MSRP less $500.
Every state is different so you just have to make sure you factor in all parts of the transaction to see what's best for you.
If you have a relative in Virginia, they only pay a 3% tax, again not sure how you'd be able to take advantage of this.
In most states if you purchase "out of state" you won't pay taxes on the deal you'll pay taxes in the state where you title the car.
I bought my Infiniti in Pennsylvania and I signed a form and they charged me the West Virginia tax rate, and they send the money to my state. That was convenient. I have bought in PA though where I just signed a form and they didn't collect taxes and I paid them in my home state when I went to the DMV to register the car.
It seems that most dealers quote invoice pricing inclusive of holdbacks and other fees. Here's what I've calculated they're using:
2007 Camry XLE V6 = 23925 Destination = 600 (varies by region) TDA = 300 (advertising fee, varies by region) Gas = 10 (varies by region) Dealer holdback = 556 (2% of MSRP) Whls Fin Reserve = 278 (1 % of MSRP)
Thus for the above sample car/region, the invoice price = 25669. You can now add on the invoice pricing for options from the Edmunds site to get to the true dealer invoice.
I just had a quote from Toyota in Schaumburg, IL for $28,746 The options included in the price are: FE HD NV SK VS CF Vehicle Base Model ..........................: 27820.00 50 State Emissions ......................... Driver and Front Passenger Heated Seats (HD).... 440.00 Navigation w/ JBL Premium Audio 4-Disc (NV)..... 1200.00 In-Dash CD Changer/MP3/Bluetooth with 8.... Speakers, In 6 Locations, 440 Watts and.... Satellite Radio Capability. Requires:..... Subscription to XM or Sirius, Antenna and ... Receiver. .................................. Smart Key System w/ Push Button Start (SK)...... 450.00 Vehicle Stability Control w/ Traction...... Control (VS) .................................. 650.00 Carpet/Trunk Mat Set (CF) ...................... 199.00
so this almost fully loaded. What do u guys think? i had quotes from 2 more dealerships buy weren't even close to this.
That's right I forgot to add $620 but I checkd the quote and its there. $28,300 but dont forget the CF accessory(floormats). I'll try negotiating about the price and will start from the invoice going up.
After months of searching dealerships and online stores, I finally found the car I was looking for.
There it was sitting mixed in the camry section of "online Fitzgerald" camry section. Normally one selects the "Camry Hybrid" which seems is for the Maryland store. At first I thought it was a misprint, returned car, or something was wrong with it. My sales person in Chambersberg, Pa., Mary Dennis, assured me nothing was wrong and would even deliver it to my home, 150 miles away, if I wanted to... (at additional cost of course). ... but I had to see for my self... so one day, my friend and I drove 2 1/2 hours.... then... sitting in front of me... it looked georgous... took it for a ride and bought it.
A Camry hybrid with Nav, Sunroof, Leather, heated seats, and all the bells and whistles. MSRP price was ...................$30,929.00 Asking price was .................$28,292.00 Out the door price (with TTL) was $30,108.00
I figure with 500 for the state and 1300 from the IRS... my total cost of the car was ........$28,308.00.
After an Hour and half... I was driving out of the lot... it was that easy.
You indicated invoice price on a 2007 Camry XLE V6 was $23,925. Edmunds.com says it is $24,759. Can you (or anyone) account for the difference in these two figures?
Also, has anyone had any success negotiating for invoice plus a couple hundred dollars in the Pacific Northwest? Which dealer(s) did you go to?
Hey Gampa...I actually saw the same thing. Did the lady tell you why they are so much cheaper than the dealer in Maryland? Did she say they would get others in at that price? If I can't find a similar price locally I may have to take a trip up to my relatives in MD.
The destination fee should be part of the invoice. If you configure the car through Edmunds you will get the invoice price. The dealer MSRP matched Edmunds when I bought mine, but the invoice was $400 higher due to "regional advertising". This was true of several dealers. If you include this, then you should be able to get $100 over invoice for a moderately equiped Camry.
This store has a policy of "minimum pricing"... no back and forth bargaining with the manager in the backroom...the sticker on the window is what you pay.
This way the experience is low keyed and simple.
As to competition with the Maryland store, I cannot even guess on an answer.
I believe the Chambersburg store is only one hour north of the Maryland store.
With a savings of $2000... it might be worth an hour drive.
You indicated invoice price on a 2007 Camry XLE V6 was $23,925. Edmunds.com says it is $24,759. Can you (or anyone) account for the difference in these two figures?
The Edmunds invoice pricing will include dealer holdback (2% MSRP)and wholesale financial reserve (1% MSRP).
car = 23925 holdback = 556 wfr = 278 Total Invoice = 24759
Note that Edmunds does not include advertising fees or gas, which is what most dealers consider invoice pricing.
I just purchased an 07 LE-V-6 in silver, automatic, upgraded JBL stereo w/the bluetooth package. I paid out the door with tax etc and a little negative equity on my 04 Accord {about $900} $26,600. Iam gonna finace thru my old credit union and make bi-weekly payments thru my current paychecks. I got a 6% rate. Iam gonna be paying about $200 or so per paycheck. DId I get taken or did ok.??? The V-6 is hard to come by in Pittsburgh unless one wants the XLE-V6 loaded for $30K or so... Hope I did OK not great but ok...
Well,I thought fitzmall was a good idea from reading most of the forums here, but when I went there it turned out to be the worst experience.I intially called them a week ago for a le v6 camry I saw on there website. It was labeled as '' coming soon '' so I knew they didn't have it,but called them anyway to find out when it would come in.The salesperson told me that it would be in stock in about 3 months and convinced me to buy another one that he could get from another dealer right away.I didn't want to wait 3 months so I thought if I was getting the same car I might as well let him get it from another dealer. He asked for a $500 deposit for bringing the car from the other dealer so he could hold it for me and that it would be refunded when I bought the car.Supposedly he would get a driver to bring the car from the other dealer which was 200 miles from them and told me that there would only be about that many miles on the odometer since the car is new at the other dealer.I went to fitzmall in chambersburg and when I asked for a paper trail just to make sure that it was driven 200 miles away he showed me something else. The odometer on the car was 470 miles and he didn't have any documents to show why there was those extra miles 270 miles. He then said that it was moved from two other dealers before he got it,but still the extra 270 miles didn't seem right and it gave me the impression maybe the car he broght from the dealer was a used demo.Another thing was that there was bank involvement in the documents he showed me.I didn't understand why a bank would be involved if the car is new and that is only being moved between dealers.I thought maybe the car was bought from somebody and then returned to the dealer he got it from.In the end it seemed very suspicious so I decided not to buy the car and asked for my money back.He told me he couldn't return the money because it was used to pay the driver to bring the car from the other dealer.I got mad and walked out after arguing. There was nothing I could do.Before I went there he never told me on the phone that there was an extra 270 miles on the odometer other than the 200 miles for bringing the car.Overall,it was a very bad experience. Be careful and avoid fitzmall.
Peligroso, Ask to speak with a manager at Fitzmall. They have an excellent reputation, and this situation just doesn't sound right......unless there is more to this story then you indicate. The car is not what they said, and you shouldn't be held liable for those transport charges.
We got the Carpet Mat Set, Extra Mile Aluminum Wheel Upgrade, and Vehicle Shield Package. Color is Metallic Gray. All prices included Delivery and Processing.

Thanks Kiawah for the advice, but I did go to the manager and he also refused to return the deposit. All these guys work together and back each other.Thet seem very crooked.Suposedly,it was a nonrefundable deposit unless I decide to buy the car then the deposit would be returned.I was aware of the terms when I spoke on the phone before going there. However,if I had known there were extra unaacounted miles besides from the miles for transporting the vehicle then I would have never gave the deposit.I was lied to by fitzmall in chambersburg.I remeber the salesperson on the phone telling me the car was new and the miles on the odometer would only account for transporting the vehicle.Another thing I forgot to mention was that when I went there he showed me the keys and I noticed the tag on the keys was marked as a used vehicle instead of new. That is what kind of got me suspicious in the beginning and asking for the paper trail. It should have been marked new if the car is only being transported. When I asked them why it was marked used they told me that they put the wrong tag by mistake.I knew he was lying.I think my biggest mistake was letting the salesperson get the car from another dealer instead of waiting the three months for the car to show up in their inventory and having zero miles.I was willing to wait the three months initially, but the salesperson was pressuring me to go for the same car he could get from the other dealer faster. He kept reminding me that the car may take longer to arrive then three months and that he could'nt really assure me that he could reserve the car so I thought my chances were better letting him get it from the other dealer.I talked to a friend of mine and he told me my best bet was to call them on monday and demand for at least half the money to be returned because they shouldn't charge the full amount for paying a driver to transport the vehicle.I'm assuming to pay for a driver to bring the car it shouldn't cost 500 dollars.I will wait till monday but doubt thet would return half the deposit if not all.I still feel they should return the entire deposit since I was lied to. My advice regarding fitzmall is to get their price quote from the internet and go to a local dealer and have them match it.Alot of local dealers would match it and avoid the no haggle that fitzmall promises. If you do decide to buy from fitzmall avoid giving a deposit over the phone beacause the car may not be new or may have some damage when you go there to visit.
You have to look at your options now...and move on.
1) You could buy the original car and put the 270 miles behind you, not letting it ruin your purchase...I'm not an expert but it sound like a bank loan that fell threw, I could be wrong.
2) walk away from the deal loosing $250 - $500... taking Fitzgerald's estimate to see if some other dealer will match it.
3) Ask them to "work with you" so that both of you can make this a "Win Win" situation and ask if you could either put the deposit on another vehicle... maybe another one on the lot or the "other" that would come in 3 months.
Yes - as long as you still buy from them you should be fine. Just get another vehicle.
As a rule I shy away from the long distance dealer trades. My logic being that if there is enough slush in the deal to pay for the driving, then I can get a better deal, or something else is fishy.
Interesting story...I am considering buying from the Chambersburg dealership in the next few months. This story really makes me apprehensive now. I live pretty far away and I'd hate to drive all the way up there and have this happen to me. Hmmmmm...keep us posted.
I also agree with Gampa...since you already gave them the money see if they'll work with you. No sense in losing $500.
Also keep in mind that Fitzgerald of Chambersberg is selling their V6 XLS for "their" invoice... which is about 500 plus gas... above Edmunds invoice. That includes marketing charge, sale person's profit , company profit, prep and a full tank of gas.
I would say that's a good deal.
That's a deal that others dealers would find hard to beat.
Thanks for the advice Gampa and I will keep you posted. When I was there arguing for the $500 deposit I asked him exactly what you suggested.I asked him if he could hold the money for another car they may have in the future like the same car coming in three months. They told they couldn't do that because they can't legally hold the deposit that long so the only choice they gave me was to buy the car with the 470 miles. But I still was reluctant to buy the car because I was scared maybe there was something wrong with the car they didn't want to tell me or that maybe it used as a demo at the other dealer. So I guess I have to wait until tomorrow to call them and see what I can do about getting the deposit back. For one thing grampa you're right about the fair prices compared to edmunds and no haggle. If I decided to buy assuming the unaccounted mileage didn't bother me it would have been perfect. The good thing was they honored the price and its the same delivered price posted on the internet. So its kind of harsh for me to say avoid fitzmall. It better to call them and make sure the car is new and hasn't been moved around from other dealers or have mileage.Normally a new car in the lot coming from the factory should have only 10-15 miles or less so its good to ask how much mileage is on the car when you call them to assure its new.Well you learn from your mistakes and my mistake was letting fitzmall get the car from another dealer. The unaccounted mileage was most likely from the other dealers fault at not the fault of fitzmall.I understand fitzmall only picked up the car from them, but I'm sure they knew there was unaccounted mileage on the vehicle and the reason why it was there when they picked it up from the other dealer.I only really blame them for not telling me about the extra 270 miles and not being honest with me when I initially talked to them on the phone.I mean when you feel someone is lying to you its not always good to do buisness with them. What really made me mad was the car keys had a tag marked as used vehicle so I'm assuming fitzmall was aware that it was used, but didn't want to tell me.And I'm definitely not going to pay for a used car when they are telling me its new.Basically if you do decide to go there be careful and avoid giving deposit over the phone and do your reasearch to make sure the vehicle is new. Also, only buy the car if you see it posted on their website. When you call them they may say the car is sold or reserved by someone else and try to convince you they can get the same car from another dealer.Be careful and avoid that trap.If the car is there like posted on their website it may work out for you and be a good experience.I'll keep you guys posted after I talk to them tomorrow concerning the deposit.
If you paid for the deposit with your credit card, you can try disputing the charge. Call your credit card company and state you didn't receive what was agreed on from the transaction.

I couldn't find the exact one you mentioned with the alloys but dealer invoice on it should be right around 21,500

I paid $300 over dealer invoice the 1st week the Camry's came out but 10 months after they are out anything more than invoice is a gift to the dealer.
Original quote: $28,746.00
Anytoehr comments?
Thanks,
(Leather, heated seats, JBL stereo, sunroof, keyless start, etc..)
Any thoughts on this price quote? I am a new Toyota customer and new to this forum and appreciate all help.
Thanks.
MSRP price was ...................$30,929.00
Asking price was .................$28,292.00
Out the door price (with TTL) was $30,108.00
I figure with 500 for the state and 1300 from the IRS... my total cost of the car was ........$28,308.00.
After an Hour and half... I was driving out of the lot... it was that easy.
Anyone else take the Fitzgerald experience.

Thanks very much,
Alaska
I paid $300 over dealer invoice 10 months ago. No negotiation needed.
If I was to buy one now, it would be at dealer invoice.
Toyota of Kirkland, Internet Sales Manager, was the lowest. Titus-Will in Tacoma was 2nd lowest.
With a savings of $2000... it might be worth an hour drive.
...it certianly was worth my time.

The Edmunds invoice pricing will include dealer holdback (2% MSRP)and wholesale financial reserve (1% MSRP).
car = 23925
holdback = 556
wfr = 278
Total Invoice = 24759
Note that Edmunds does not include advertising fees or gas, which is what most dealers consider invoice pricing.
DId I get taken or did ok.??? The V-6 is hard to come by in Pittsburgh unless one wants the XLE-V6 loaded for $30K or so...
Hope I did OK not great but ok...
Ask to speak with a manager at Fitzmall. They have an excellent reputation, and this situation just doesn't sound right......unless there is more to this story then you indicate. The car is not what they said, and you shouldn't be held liable for those transport charges.

Any thoughts...
Keep us posted of your outcome.

As a rule I shy away from the long distance dealer trades. My logic being that if there is enough slush in the deal to pay for the driving, then I can get a better deal, or something else is fishy.
Keep us posted.

Get everything in writing before commiting. Auto price, Vin #, out the door price, mileage, etc.
You apparently didn't and have regrets because of it.
You may not like it but don't believe salesman BS.
