    Our DVD player in our 05 Ody also had sound but no video when we picked it up. The service dept was still open and they replaced a fuse under the hood. I don't know if this is a fuse that needs to be dealer installed during prep and was missed or if it was blown somehow. We have not had any problems with it since.

    We have this intermittent rattle in the area of the pillar behind the drivers head in our 05 ODY EX-L. At first we thought it might be coming from the door, but I listened closely while my wife was driving and I don't think so. Anyone else with a rattle in this area.

    Thanks for the info. My service dept doesn't do a walk around in my presence. So when I took the car in this morning, I asked if they do one at all. I was told the Service Dept manager is "supposed" to do one. I'll see what they say when they call me back.

    We have an 2002 Odysses; all is fine except the dash board clock light. Its out! I belive it is just a loose connection; my dealership service tells me the hole dash has to come out in order to make any repairs. He's talking 2.5 hours maint\enance cost. Is there a better way to make repairs. Thanks...

    I believe it is a simple bulb replacement. My dealer charged about $22 extra to service it while it was in for other maintenance (same design - a '99).

    In a previous life, I managed a large repair facility. You have no idea how many things got blamed on us. Scratches, dents, missing wheel covers etc. I'm sure that it's POSSIBLE we did some of the damage although my guys were always quick to admit it if something happened.

     

    The other times, I think that in many cases the customer honestly felt we were the cause of the damage. Other times they were simply out to blame us for prior damage.

     

    It got so bad, we were finally forced to do a walk around. Quite often we would hear..." Oh, how did THAT happen?"

    I understand what you are saying. You don't always know about dents or scratches unless you look for them. Based on what has happened to me, I think all dealers should do a walk around in the presence of the customer, with all damage noted and signed by both parties, each party getting a copy of the document. Then, there would be no questions and both parties would be happier - especially a customer who feels that they paid a lot of money for a new car, have owned it for only 5 weeks - one week of which it was in for repairs for a noise that was not found and had to be taken back, only to find that there is also obvious paint damage to the hood of the brand new car!

    I have 2000 Odyssey and had a crack in the windshield in the summer of 2000 as I was returning from driving to Alaska. I had the windshield replaced by a 3rd party Glass Repair shop. Took them about 2 hours. It cost about $300-$350. No problems with it in 4 years.

    I was just reading the owner's manual yesterday (will I ever finish?) and noted that there should be a piece of carpeted floor mat that either: 1) goes between the two larger seats when the skinny seat is removed or 2) goes next to the large seat on the passenger side when you slide the two larger seats together. My dealer placed this piece of floor mat between my two front seats (under the folding tray). It almost looks like it belongs there save for the two black tabs on the end. Have you checked there yet? If it's not there, then your dealer never placed it in your vehicle at the time of delivery. Good luck!

    I picked up my 05 EXL last friday and noticed the exact same thing. I can stop the rattling by putting my hand on the ceiling. I am going to dealer this afternoon. I'll let you know what they say. Please let me know how you make out.

    FWIW my 2005 was also missing the fuse for the RES. We couldn't get any power to go to it. When I brought it back the salesrep said that the fuse is installed at the dealerships upon arrival but that the fuses weren't in some of the vans, while others had a bunch of extras. The fuse box is the small one under the hood behind (closer to the windshield) the larger fuse box. The only fuse that goes in there is the RES.

    The lever to fold my backseat on my 2000 Ody LX appears to be broken. When I pull it, there's tension, but it does not engage and fold the seat into the back compartment.

     

    Has anyone had a similar experience and if so, do you have any remedies?

    I can relate to your problem, I had the wheels balanced which helped some but my 05 LX is too uncomfortable/noisy for both me and my husband (compared to my last van - a 1991 GM cargo van). Honda has also assured me that my ride is normal. I am also looking at the options of trading or selling but confused about taxes. I don't even have my title yet. We are not the first to sell our vans, there are several used 05's listed on autotrader.com. So - does anyone know how to deal with taxes when selling a used car?

    Hi. I had the same thing, but also had to replace the EGR valve and A/C was going out. Anyway, I was quoted $50 to repair. I raised a big stink, called Honda Corp, and because I had my car maintained with the dealership they paid.

    Just got through with the same problem on my 02 Oddy. I called Honda Corp, opened a case. Did not get hostile, just let them know I was a loyal customer and I expected good service. After about a 20 min phone call, they paid for the replacement.

    I have a new 05 EX Ody (800 miles). I also hear a slight grinding noise -every time- during initial acceleration. Afterwards, as long as the engine is on, I do not hear any noise.

    the grinding noise sounds like the ABS self-check. It's normal, and usually happens briefly at about 10 MPH.

    I have an EX-L, and find the ride to be fine. A bit on the firm side, but I like that. At least you feel in control. In any case, a 5 hour drive last week was fine by my family standards. I guess it reacts to bumps, but everything does.

     

    Having driven cargo vans (Ford not Chevy), you lost me at that comparison. Nothing rides worse than one of these beasts, unless maybe you always had a full load in back to smooth out the ride (but it still wallowed and shook and shuddered).

     

    But, it's just a car. If it bothers you that much, sell it and get something that won't drive you insane. Lifes too short to be miserable.

     

    Also, points out the need to actually take a test drive on a few different road surfaces. Might have saved you a lot of grief.

    I'm not sure about all states, but in CT if you trade the van in you only have to pay tax on the difference in price. If you sell the van outright there is no sales tax credit.

    Hi Hoca. Re wind-noise. Honda is aware Just had ours repaired today. Now quiet. You need Service bulletin 04-078. They will replace seal under plastic under wipers with part number P/N 74202-SOX-AOO, H/C 7765043. Good luck. Sparks

    My wife and I love the Odyssey EX-L as a replacement for our 2000 Sienna, HOWEVER whenever it rains the check engine light comes on as well as the VSA light. This seems to shut off the VCM and the transmission will buck or jerk when accelerating. I took it to the dealership today for service. Any ideas? I think it is a computer malfunction. Van doesn't even have 300 miles on it yet.

    might be a bad ground, or something not sealed correctly, since the wet seems to be important. Anyway, certainly annoying, but quite likely that the dealer will be able to easily resolve the problem.

    Yes, I do have the same problem like your. I've got exl 05 Odyssey, I noticed this the first day I got the car. My car also have closing back door problem, so I have to use extra force to close the doors. If you have any good news on the door closing problem, please let me know. Thanks.

    I am thiking of chaning transmission fluid on my 2000 Honda Odyssey. Has anyone on this site done this and if you can help with some directions, it would be very helpful.

    Check with your dealer especially if it is still under warranty. There is a TSB for that clunking noise. Speciically if it occurs when changing directions. There some kind of kit/ adjustment for the rear disc brakes.

     

    I have noticed it on my 04 and going to bring it up when I take it in for adjustments to hopefully help my mileage. Has anyone experienced a sqeaky idler pulley on their 04 yet? I have 16K on mine and it is squeaking.

    We just had 22" of the white stuff here in Ohio. This was the first real test for my 04 Ody. I thought it handled great. After clearing my driveway and a runway to get started down my unplowed road it handled great. Traveled snow covered highways, snow/ ice covered roads and no problems. Only thing I noticed that helped getting started at times was turning off the TCS this way the wheels could spin sone to help make some headway. Not sure what is causing your problems but my Ody was fantastic. I was out running around town when many of my friends did not think about getting our in their rwd SUV's.

    Check with your dealer. There is a recent TSB on this problem. I believe they come up with it in 2004. If you documented the problem to your dealer a while ago they may fix it for free since they realized there was a problem and finally came up with a solution.

    Yes, I had the same problem with my 2000 EX during the first year of ownership. If you accidentally pull the handle and let go quickly instead of gently the cable can pop off the handle. The dealer fixed it under warranty when it was in for routine service. Maybe your service dept will reattach it without charge if you are in for other service. I couldn't be bothered to try to fix it myself.

    I have the same problem with wind noise on highways speeds over 65 MPH.

    I have changed mine twice (129,000 miles). Be sure to use Honda branded transmission fluid. I could not find any aftermarket fluid that said it would work in my Odyssey.

     

    There is a drain plug near the bottom of the transmission. Just unscrew it and you will drain out about 4 quarts of fluid. To refill there is a plug on the top of the transmission... Not the easiest to get to. You will need a funnel with a small end and a ratchet with about a 18" extension to get to fill plug.

    Fellow EXL owners,

     

    I am a new owner of a 2005 Odyssey EXL and was wondering what I can do about the leather smell inside the car. I normally like the new car smell, but the smell of the leather is overpowering. May be I am feeling this is the first time that I have bought a vehicle with leather seats.

     

    Are there any simple ideas on how to minimize/get rid of this smell or is it just a matter of time? I have heard of people putting fabric softener sheets etc. But any idea or experience in this area will help.

    Fresh coffee grounds tossed on the carpet occasionally will mask a lot of odors.

     

    Since your van is so new, maybe it's just the adhesives and materials out-gassing, and maybe it's not specifically the seats. Try to leave the windows open when you can and let it air out.

    Got this from a Honda tech because I had the same question that you posed. When the Multi-info display is showing the average mph, push in the brightness button in the dash. The average speed will reset to zero. I found that the procedure only worked on "driver A". Personally, I don't find this feature useful. Hope this helps.

    Sorry, I have not been on this board in a while. Agree that the speedo/ody is off, but I never talked to the dealer about it. From comments on the boards, I accept that this is universal and that the dealer probably could not / would not do anything about it.

     

    Call it a strange safety device - helps keeps my lead foot wife out of trouble!!!

    I am looking at buying a 2000 LX Odyssey. VIN is 2HKRL1853YH609182. Is this in the range that had problems or did not have transmission problems? If someone could replay ASAP. I am supposed to close the deal tomorrow.

    best bet is to call a dealer service department. They can look it up on the computer, and probably tell you if anything was already done to it, though I think (not sure) that on an '00, it would just be extended warranty coverage.

    I did have the same rattle. I took it back to the dealership. They explained that there are two pieces of plastic there that were rubbing together. They pulled down the headliner and added more padding, which separated and insulated the pieces. This was a week ago, good since then

    About two weeks ago, I bought a brand new '05 Odyssey with 80 milages already. i wasn't sure if i wanted to get it because i didn't trust cars with high milages already. anyway, after a rain yesterday, i noiced that the engine is making a very loud noise. i called the dealer, and they told me to bring the car and they'll fix it. the problem is, if a brand new car's engine break this easily, does that mean i got a bad car. i am really depressed now. i am afraid that the car is gonna have more problem later on. or maybe i just got a bad car from the dealer.

    Hopefully it's something simple, like a belt that started slipping because of the rain. No use getting too depressed until the dealer can take a look at it.

    Don't worry about the VIN. I recently purchased a used 2000 EX with 93k. My Honda dealer replaced the trans under the 100k warranty extension for '00 & 01' Odys.

     

    Buy the van if it is clean. Your Honda dealer will replace the trans if needed. No questions asked.

    Yeah, but there is no like between the states for the history. Dealerships only know what they have done to a vehicle, not what others have done...Thanks for the feedback though.

    I have a 5 yr old 2000 EX. The accelerator felt stiff and when pushed down stayed in the down position. This happened twice, first was last year during winter when it was cold around 0 farenheit and the second was yesterday another cold morning and car was out in the lot overnight. I had to press on the brakes with the engine gunning and shift to neutral intermittently to control my speed. I normally get the car moving right away after starting and the first time it happened I pulled into a parking lot and by the time I fiddled around helplessly for a few minutes everything was back to normal after the engine was warmer. Brought it to the dealer and was told about sludge accumulating somewhere that could be cleaned out with the next service. By then it was spring and forgot all about it till yesterday. Didn't fret this time but again pulled over and parked and let the engine warm up for a minute and no problems afterwards. Anyone with similar experiences. Never had this problem with other cars.

    We almost bought a brand new one, however, after test driving the '05 we determined that 30k was too expensive. The '05 still has the characteristic Honda stiff ride & noise drumming on the highway. Not to mention several rattles.

     

    Try to find an EX, they seem to retain their value better. Plus, the alloys look sharp and power sliders are nice (also 3 row climate control).

     

    Overall, we are happy with our purchase. If our 2000 Ody with 93k lasts three years or 150k miles trouble free, I will probably never buy anything but Honda. Honda Service is unbelievable.
