It would appear that you go one of those that "fall on a certain production day". Loos connection would do it.
I have never had to return my Ody back to the dealer for any repairs in the past year I had it.
Happy July 4th

There seem to be 2 fuses for my Honda radio (2001 Oddessy). One fuse is the one listed in the owners manual and it only controls the constant power to the radio that keeps the radio stations programmed in memory. The fuse that controls the radio when the ignition is on is the same one for the AUX power outlets (the old cigarette lighter), The owners manual makes no mention of this. Check the fuse that controls these outlets.
Best regards!
This happened Sunday on vacation. It seemed to be okay for most of the trip home, but yesterday, after not driving it most of the day, the problems came back.
Any suggestions on what to tell the dealer? How much is this going to cost to fix?
I noticed a month ago that the battery on my Lincoln was getting weak when it was turing the engine slower than normal. The electronics/memory for all the toys were also not functionaing properly. The battery was 4 years old and I have always changed my car battery every 4 yrs, irregardless of its condition. So it was time. I have always preferred to change batteries on my terms instead of being stranded somewhere.
TO make a long story short, I changed the battery by getting the biggest one that could fit under the hood. Got a $58 Walmart MAXX brand rated at 1000 CA/830CCA and installed it immediately. Since I do this every 4 yrs, I do not really care about the brand - besides Walmart will honor any warranty issues with no hassles. Engine nows turns fast and all electronics are back in order.
What happens is that a weak battery has its voltage dropped a noticeable level below its 13.5V to affect the vehicle electronics and the power to crank the engine.
So I would change the battery in your car with the most powerful one to fit under there. I believe that you would have to reset the radio as well when power is disconnected.
The problem? The CD sounds great; FM sounds great; AM sounds lousy (lots of static) and I like to listen to NPR on AM.
Has anyone else had problems with AM reception after they switched out the factory unit?
Has anyone had SUCCESS with a cd/tuner that got good AM reception in their Odyssey van?
I realize the problem might be with the cd/tuner, but I traded the Panasonic for a Pioneer (both reputable) and had the same problem. It could be that they're simply focusing more on XM/FM at the expense of AM, but I thought I'd seek the advice of others.
Thanks,
Michael
I see from some discussions above that it might be the battery but the battery is pretty new ('05 Honda) and everything else is working fine. Any thoughts?
Thanks!
You are right, I have rear disk brakes. Thank you for theadvise. My friend's brand
new Acura has the same squeak, the dealership said the same thing - won't fix the squeak since the brakes work fine. I guess I will just wait until change the brake pads. My wife divers the van most of time, she does not notice the squeaks as I do (She is fine with that!)
lastwraith:
Thank you very much for the advice on watering brakes. I guess I have to
stop doing that. I did not realize the consequences.
Thank you both again for your advices.
Let me know if I have dog ears....
1) I liked WCM at first but now I have 6,000 miles and .
2) Either I am attuning to VCM freq and being annoyed or the annoyance is actually growing worse.
3) My 72 year old father noticed the vibration/hum/rumble when highway driving and slight downhill coast at 60 mph. In fact it got pretty noticible. Not tires not anything but definite engagement of VCM. Floor the gas and go on smooth and nice.
4) anyhow, I now wonder if VCM feature can fail either the radio portion or engine mount portion.
I admit when new it seemed near perfect and not overly detectable but I could discern the engagement.
I have some mild mid range hearing loss as does my father. Funny if the audio challenged ANC the ANC. Kind of a counter counter measure!
pasted from other forums...
VCM is very noticeable. Whenever it kicks in you can feel a slight vibration in the steering wheel. I could feel this on every oddysey that I drove although it seems to be more pronounced now that I have a few more miles on my van. At first this didn't bother me but now It kind of makes me wonder how long it will be before it breaks or the vibration becomes even more pronounced. I expected more from honda.
According to the service manual there are two microphones but I have not found specific reference to where they are located.
To test the ANC (cliff notes version from the service manual):
Shut all the doors
1) Turn ignition switch to ACC or ON
2) Turn radio off
3) Press and hold presets 1 and 6. While holding them push the PWR knob. Release the buttons and the radio display should say "DIAG"
4) Push preset 1 and it will display "ANC ON". Push it again and it will display "ANC OFF". When it displays ANC OFF you should hear a low frequency (50 hz) hum for about 1 minute.
5) Start the engine while the hum is sounding. The hum should stop
6) Test drive at 55mph. Enter DIAG mode, turn ANC OFF then back to ON and it should activate.
should sound like a "low-frequency hum (50Hz)"
With key in ACC (1) position.
Turn off radio.
Push & hold 1 & 6 preset buttons while turning on radio.
"DIAG" text will appear on radio.
Press the 1 preset button and the ANC will sound for a minute.
Turn radio off to exit diag mode.
When I drive and enter ECO mode and all is very quite I can hear just a very subtle low freq hum from the front or right around me. It is noticable enough to kinda bother me though. Maybe I just have dog ears
Did either of you try adjusting the upper glove compartment door? Any success?
:confuse:
I noticed that the only "alarm" type light that was flashing was the driver door open indicator. If the door wasn't shutting for some reason, that would mess up the lights and the door locks, right? And right before the battery went dead, my husband had slammed the door on the buckle part of the seatbelt; it bounced off rather than shutting. When I told my husband what I thought, he rolled his eyes and said the van clearly had "major problems." Well, it's my vehicle, and I know it really well, so I was still thinking it was the door.
Anyway, I took it to the dealer. When the guy asked what was wrong, I told him it was a long story. He rolled his eyes, too, but luckily he listened to me anyway. He called over the body shop guy to take a look. Sure enough, slamming the door on the seatbelt buckle had dented the door frame right where the button that senses the door is shut is on the frame. So every bump or jiggle made the door loose contact with the button, and the door indicator light and interior lights flashed on and off! It took them a couple of days and $280 to pound out the dents and repaint the door, but I haven't had any problems since!
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
also, any suggestions for securing a canoe on top.. where to best install tie down bolts? thanks
if no, i.e. the whine only happens when you are in drive, it *might* be the transmission. in this case you really need to drive the vehicle with the tech (again, i presume you are bringing it in).
no - you are correct, other odysseys don't have a whine when you press the accelerator so get it checked out. you should be under warranty anyway right?
now then - canoes and proper securing... you mention tie-down bolts and that is confusing me. first things first - do you have roof rails?
on the LX trim odyssey, the rails and cross bars are optional. on EX and above, i believe the rails are standard but the cross bars are optional. what configuration do you have? i'm thinking to secure a canoe, you have to at least have rails (rails are the things that go front to back on the left and right of the roof).
personally, i would not let the canoe sit on the roof itself.
for cross bars (if you don't have any) you *might* be able to use modified pieces of 2x4" lumber. you'd have to secure a couple of pieces to the rails (and i think i'd modify them so securing them to the rails was easier and solid), then have the canoe sit on them. then you'd secure the canoe to the rails and the cross bars / lumber. you don't want the canoe or the creative cross-bars moving, so it's all about securing using a good technology. using elastic "bungie cords" might or might not work.
remember also, you need to secure the canoe properly so that even in a panic stop, it does not leave the roof but stays in place so side to side securing is important, but so is front to back. a canoe is not a christmas tree.
to do it right (say you didn't have cross bars), i'd probably go aftermarket for some strong cross-bars capable of carrying more load. the main point is - you have to have rails at least and cross members for the canoe to sit on. aftermarket probably even has special devices for canoes. is there an odyssey accessories forum? you might ask there as well.
good luck.
My first post here... I'm supposed to pick up a new Ody EXL RES NAV tomorrow (I'll post pricing once I really get it, but it sounds promising).
I'm a long-time Honda fan, but our 2002 Accord V6 EXL bottoms out coming out of our driveway, which is kind of steep. I just noticed that the ground clearance of the Odyssey is about 2 or 3 inches (a lot) less than the Sienna (which I tested in my driveway and barely made it). Problem is that the Honda dealer is kind of far away to test it in the driveway, but I don't want to take delivery and then have a problem.
Would you be concerned?
:confuse:
Thanks!
Dave
Even though the Sienna barely made it, do you know how it will fare with passengers and load? I have seen some folks driving up their driveways at an angle to clear the ground.
Got a chance to drive my wife's '04 LX this past weekend around the hills in Pennsylvania and noticed some pecularities with the tranny shift lever on the vehicle. There were times, especially after a start, that I could not shift from D to D3. The user manual also indicated that I should be able to shift from D to D3 without pulling the lever forward... I could do that with the van stopped (shifting from Park) but not with the van moving. Am I missing something here???
Note that my van only has 14K on it and it's VIN falls outside of the range of vans identified with tranny problems.
Thainks for your help!
If you think that center tray is nice on the Ody, you'd flip if you saw the storage in the two wells near the middle seats of the 2005 Dodge/Chrysler. You could put just about anything you could put in that big well behind the Ody's third seat in them and it would also be out of sight. Gobs of room.
Most OEM radios have better AM reception comparing to the Aftermarket equivalent.
For Aftermarket unit, the emphasis is always on Audio Fidelity: more stereo separation, more high frequency audio content and Bass boost. All of this stuffs, on the flip side, generate more noise, especially for AM. On top of that, the Aftermarket unit probably has a cheapo AM tuner just enough to make sound
To have better AM reception, two things are needed in the radio: better AM tuner sensitivity and reduced Audio bandwidth (for weak signal or far-away stations). You, of course, can not change the tuner sensitivity since it is the hardware of the tuner. But you may reduce the static noise by turning down the TREBBLE knob. If your radio has Autotone function, select "TALK" option. It will reduce the audio noise for you. BTW, reducing Audio bandwidth for both AM/FM is the trick that radio engineers do to reduce FM Multipath noise and also AM noise for OEM radios.
Another thing is radio antenna system: AM is very fuzzy about having a good antenna connection. If your connection is bad, your radio will lose quite a bit of sensitivity. Having say that, the antenna co-ax cable is also important. For whip antenna (antenna rod found in vehicle fender), the shorter the co-ax cable, the less signal loss. Also not all co-ax cables are created the same: some has more loss than others. The lower loss cable, the better.

Is there an adjustment somewhere in the system to increase the 'master' volume?
Please advise.
Thanks!
This is our third odyssey and we know there is a problem. Van was delivered in November
Any ideas on next steps ??
PDanesi
Dealer feels they are within spec and states there is no way to adjust without extensive repair. Using key fob to open not always an option for her.
Any similar experiences or fixes ??
thanks
P Danesi
Thanks.
Yeek!
My wife and I have an '05 EX-L. We leave the switch in the 'door' position. The lights come on when the door is opened and then after a time delay of 20-30 seconds after the door is shut the lights go out. The only way (for our van at least) for a light to STAY on is if that individual light has been manually turned on at that position.
Personally, I think the time delay should work on those individual lights which have been manually turned on as well. So far however, we haven't had a problem.

good luck,

The steering wheel also shakes at 70 mpg. Ug!
Driving a car that annoys you every 4th braking instance is pointless. Spending under $100 on parts to keep myself happy in my car is worth it (to me). I understand you are all unsatisfied and angry, but I'd rather be happy and out the $100. Just a thought.
So far, there are rumors tha honda is going to issue a revised pad, but they aren't out yet. The aftermarket is just starting to gear up for it (trere really aren't any other choices at this point).
Best bet is complain to the dealer, but don't let them turn the rotors. You can also start a case with Honda customer care, so they can build up a database of complaints.
My guess, they will issue a new pad in the not too distant future, and probably put out a TSB about the noise, so some folks will get a free brake job.
Whenever mine wear out, I will go with a high-quality aftermarket pad, which should be easy to find by then (I hope).

Some disgruntled '05 Ody owner should start selling an alternative, they would clean up.
steering wheel shakes at 70mph (h) ?
